THIS IS A CRITICAL UPDATE

Installer for version Nxt 0.5.12 has been released. This version will check to see if Java is installed. If it is not, it will download and install it if you so choose.

Anybody here from NxtCrypto.org have an issue with me using a cropped version of the Nxt on fire within my installer as seen below? I'm trying to spice it up a bit.

In the meantime, I wish to report that 0.7.0 is running successfully with an H2 database backend, no more serialized java object files. No need to keep all blocks and transactions in memory anymore.

great, any ETA already?
First CfB should port the Asset Exchange bugfixes and new APIs to 0.6.0, and at the same time I plan to do some profiling and optimizations of 0.7.0 if needed, and then merge the 0.6.0 and 0.7.0 branches. I wrote most of the db code yesterday and today, and I am running it for the first time now. Let's see how many stack traces I find in the log tomorrow morning. Hope to have it ready for release by the end of the week.

Out of curiosity, is it still going to be just a zip file that we drop into a folder and create a batch script to run, or are there prerequisites that will need to be installed?

Can any of the amazing talents here whip up a vertically oriented 164x314 pixel bitmap for me to use in my installer?

Okay I used this tutorial on the "Generated an incorrect block. Waiting for the next one..." bug on NRS 0.5.11:

https://nextcoin.org/index.php/topic,1675.0.html

Downloaded the latest NXT-files and then it all updated. Working fine now.

But one question. My forged 200 NXT are gone? Didn't they make it into the blockchain?

Here a comparison of the working client and the corrupt:

Any ideas?

Greetings,

Silv0r

You were probably on a forked chain. Now that you are on the right chain, they don't show up anymore. It's gotten my hopes up a few times Smiley

I've changed up the reference client installer again

It now searches for Java on your machine, and if it doesn't find it, it will download and install either x86 or x64, depending on your system. I also changed the Post Setup Launcher to actively ping http://127.0.0.1:7874/index.html to detect when the Nxt client comes online. It will then re-direct to https://127.0.0.1:7875. I had to use the unsecure port because the SSL Cert error prevents the browser from returning a 200 ok message which is what I use to determine if Nxt has loaded.

As stated before, there is no longer any need to remove an old client version before installing a new one. Simply download the new version and the installer will update it.

The "Folder is in use" error that showed up every now and then at the end of the install has also been fixed.

I'll use this for the next release from Jean-Luc, but I'm not going to go back and update my release of 0.5.11.

Please, PLEASE test this installer and give me your feedback on any errors. I have run it on Windows 7 x86 and x64, and Windows 8 x64 without issue. So far my overhead with things I've had to add to make this work (Jquery, PostSetupLauncher, .bat files, etc.) is about 144KB. The Uninstaller is another 719KB.

DO you have a 1 click install available for a MAC?  If not, does anyone have a 1 click install for a mac?

I have some people that I want to introduce to nxt but all they have is a mac n I've never used a mac before...

I dont. I haven't touched a Mac since 1998.

You're being condescending to a large part of the Nxt community, which is unhelpful in any discussion.  My opinion is that GW should be left out of Nxt marketing.  Discussing the fact that Nxt is energy efficient should be promoted though.

I am being condescending to those who are disrespectful to the people who have devoted their entire lifes to seek the truth and illuminate the public about this. Yes. I am 100% proud of being condescending towards those people.
This is not a matter of politics and opinions, this is a matter of life and death for MILLIONS of people in this world, today, not some projected dystopian future scenario. This is occuring today!

If you do not accept science as a GPS then wtf do you accept? Your own fantasy? Then you are a solipsist.

AND AGAIN: I AM NOT THE ONE who wanted drama. I am simply stating the current state of science and highlighting how we can gain a HUGE marketing advantage due to it.
If we send the math to different sci and tech magazines they will run a lot of stories comparing NXT to Bitcoin in the grand scheme of things.
If you google Bitcoin + emissions you will see that there are already hundreds of articles on this. How the fuck are we going to turn down that oppourtunity due to a few ignorants?

Are we going to become the CyberWallstreet? Devoid of morals and only caring about our own wallets? Am I the only one here who actually cares about NXTs potential to make a huge impact on the worlds economy and environment?

Alright, this is all I'm going to say on the subject. Global warming is based on a small snapshot of data, just as global cooling was in the 70's. Zoom the data out using ice cores and rock samples, and it becomes clear this is a natural cycle and the Earth is far cooler than it has been in the past while supporting life. Global warming alarmist ignore the expansion of the ice shelves the last few years and that global avreage temperature has actually been cooler, because it doesn't fit their need for a crisis. Less than 40 years ago we thought the world was going to freeze, now we think it's going to burn up? I'm all for conservation and reducing our footprint, but stop screaming that the sky is falling. It isn't.

Humans have released about 4% of the Earth's CO2 through our entire existence. Cows.....yes, cows release more CO2 per year than humans.

Every generation needs a crisis, and this is ours. Global Warming is an industry, not reality.

And since you bring up cows, the biggest problem with cows is methane, not CO2 Smiley This is 5th grade science man.
And again: who invented the system of livestock ? Humans. Do you really think there was this many cows roaming around pre-the industrial era? lol

It's saddening to see that it seems almsot the majority of NXTers are living in the 18th century. Next thing you know evolution must be removed from our marketing. "Nono cant say NXT is the nxt generation in the evolution of cryptos, evolution is just a theory yo!!"

No shit? You just proved my point. Not one thing I said is a myth, study it. Notice how my post didn't get personal and didn't talk down on anyone. Your's on the other hand seeks to shout down honest debate with nothing but personal attacks.

Also, I believe in evolution, not creationism, I have looked at the data (Like the skewed graphs used to support it.....forget about those?) and not to mention the biggest thing to look into with ANY science.......who pays for the study. Once you know that, you know if it's junk.

Focusing more on the green angle of NXT.

Please focus on energy conservation (which should be dictated by common logic) WITHOUT building the argument around Global Warming.

Maybe this is a wise recommendation, since there are so many people who don't believe in global warming and so many people who believe in global warming. This shouldn't get in our way.

The people who don't "believe" in global warming choose to ignore about 97% of the science community. Global warming is a scientific fact by now. Don't really see why we should care about them.

No, it's not, and if anybody thinks that using Global Warming as a talking point for Nxt is a good idea, they shouldn't have anything to do with marketing and such. It's a polarizing farce that we really shouldn't attach ourselves to.

Nxt Reference Client Installer Update:

Another day, another update.

The installer is still for client 0.5.10, but it now handles updates on it's own. When I release a new version of the installer, simply download it and run it. It will now uninstall the previous version of NXT if it was installed using my installer, and install the new version.

Doesn't get to much easier than that.

Download it here @ Nextcoin.org: https://nextcoin.org/index.php/topic,1902.0.html

Mistafreeze,

I was also having trouble getting the Windows qt client to sync. After revising the conf file several times this is what worked for me:

grumpycoin.conf (example)
------------------
rpcuser=grumpy
rpcpassword=password
port=55904
rpcport=55903
rpcallowip=127.0.0.1
daemon=1
listen=1
server=1
addnode=162.243.90.199
addnode=201.141.146.117:55904
addnode=67.212.203.51
addnode=77.20.120.10

---------------------------------------

The client is synced and showing weak signal strength with only one connected peer but I am able to move GPC's in and out of wallet and pool. Does anyone have additional working nodes?

I hope this info is helpful to you....

Magic!!

Those IP's matched my grumpycoin.conf exactly, but pasting that in and restarting the client fixed it.

Thanks Smiley

BTW, now that I'm up to date, add me as a node.

The person gets money for smashing (part of?) the code and seeking out every little pimple he/she finds on his/her way.

Where is the problem?

Well, if you really can't see what's wrong with it, then I can't do anything about it.

It's between you and your ethics.

There isn't anything unethical about paying someone to review the security of an algorithm and implementation of it. We're not looking to pay for an endorsement review, we're looking for something more along the lines of a security audit.

...I have recently launched called Bypass - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=423585 - and I think Nxt and Bypass could co-exist and help each other.

Why, Oh Why... did you have to use "friction-less" in your launch text?!?!?   Undecided

I do not understand what you mean? What is wrong with "friction-less"? I thought it implied a non-existent barrier to entry for the Bypass system.

Edit: Is that all that you have to say about the proposal?

Nxt has been being trolled relentlessly by a user named Frictionless-Coin Smiley
