721  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 1 Waves to create your own tokens....is it worth it? on: October 12, 2017, 02:00:25 AM
Without a use or reason to it's pointless.  Might be good for fun, and hell in a 100 years maybe there'll be a collectors market Smiley
722  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Any hope left for Ethereum Classic? on: October 12, 2017, 01:58:24 AM
The ICO's and community are forming around Ethereum versus Ethereum Classic.  That is what gives ETH its value.  A year ago, the ETH market cap peaked at above 20% of ETH.  Today it is under 5%.  Similar expectation for BCH versus BTC.

Not entirely similar because ETC is the original one. ETH is the fork. It just so happened that the people backing up ETH are so influential. And some main actors behind the group are siding with ETH. But ETC will not die for sure. I am even investing some on it. The coin is much much more valuable as compared to so many shitcoins.

Including the original developer.  Technically you're right but by all accounts ETC even existing is something of an unintended fluke of the DAO.
723  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Best crypto-projects dump.... on: October 10, 2017, 07:54:11 PM
I do not understand that. why their values are decreasing. they are shaking people's trust.

Trust in a trustless system, that'd kinda funny, and part of the problem. If you want certainty, DON'T be in the crypto space.
724  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: October 08, 2017, 07:08:21 AM
So, are you going to sell me your bytes.  Seems like you don't want them.  Smiley
Why should I do that? There is a good chance that something will come of it.
However, I will not change a single €uro to Bytes. As much as I'd like to.
So you're only complaining because your free Bytes went down in value?
No, I'm complaining that the community is so uncritical.
I complain that the necessary steps will not be taken to really use this coin.
I complain about the fact that there is no roadmap out of which one can see in which direction this project should go, and therefore I may be wasting my time waiting in vain for this currency to finally be usable.

In fact, in my opinion there is nothing better than Byteball. That's why my fundamental and constructive criticism is based on this, and I would like to point out what is necessary to bring this project forward.

I would also like to see what the competition has partly understood here.
Unfortunately, there is no approach where this can be seen.

This is an issue with crypto, and this forum, in general.

Everytime I see "great project", "promising tech", "good luck to a great team", etc... etc... on threads that started yesterday I wretch a little.

The VAST majority of folks in this space seem to be completely daft and lacking in critical thinking.

With that said, I don't see BB as a project deserving of nearly as much cause for concern as I do for 90% of the other developments out there.  It's unique in it's code/consensus, has anonymity, a somewhat fair distro, emphasis on bot and merchant acceptance to drive utility, and active development for >6 months.

Only a handful of projects can check most of those boxes, still it may fail, but I seriously see BB as having AT LEAST as good a shot at long term viability as any other top 100 cap coins, even with the recent price drop.
725  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HLM] HELIUM - PRE NOTICE on: October 07, 2017, 02:59:59 AM
Been off the board for a week or so, come back to see they finally announced the snapshot!!!  Yay, but now I fear hell is about to freeze over.
726  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Why are ASICs bad? on: September 20, 2017, 03:41:20 AM
Asic sellers are not "real" companies.

No one would freak too much if intel amd and nvidia built and sold asics.

they don't

and every asic company sucks compared to the three companies above.

1) asic companies vanish and steal your money.
2) asic companies mine against you
3) asic companies give short warranties
4) asic companies serive you gear poorly slowly etc.

Yeah I know they are real.

But intel service for a dead cpu  approaches that of a god.

No asic company  will service your gear if it breaks like intel will.

I could go on  as to why asics are bad  but the list is long.

on the other hand  I have made profits with them  so  they are not fully bad.  Just mostly.

Agreed, ASIC's not bad but the current companies are. Lets hope Intel & Nvidia jump in and clean the mess of these retarxs

ASIC's create centralization, they have already caused it for bitcoin. Look at the big pools for example.

and...

centralization = antithesis of cryptocurrencies

The entire conceptualization of bitcoin didn't even account for GPUs originally, much less ASICs.
727  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Anyone know this ETH address and why I got ETH for no reason? on: September 19, 2017, 11:35:14 PM
I wonder if this was some ICO issuing unannounced refunds?  It came in over a week ago but I just now noticed it:

0x78482281699b48dd34a2d521D1fE1E6e22e25314

Can you list the amount of ICO that you have invested at pretty much ever? It's funny because some people went compulsively investing on every single ICO in town during the ICO hype thing and a some of them never got anywhere, this made people get their ETH back a ton of time later and they didn't even knew that invested on there. Some people isn't able to track back what exactly they invested at and what amount because they went into a ton of ICOs.
Well, they know who you are now!!! You can google the address and it comes up a bunch of time, I came across this (slightly unrelated) nearly made me cry

https://github.com/bokkypoobah/EthereumFoos#dont-leave-your-ports-open

one of the results was listed in bokkypoobah's github - perhaps you could ping him and he might help - some attack.

Do be careful though - sounds like the opening scene of a B movie.

OP has turned into a millionaire in a matter of seconds. I would personally contact them, and they might give you some type of reward for returning their ETH, or go dark.

As the guy above said, which couldn't be expressed any better, it's opening scene of a B movie.

LOL, I wish.

Actually I've only invested a small bit in 3 tokens yet to be released and MAAS was one of them.  So it seems my gut feeling was probably right and they refunded the pre-ico buyers.

Also, I have a hw and sw firewall just in case but most of my coins are offline anyway Wink

EDIT: oooor apparently they did announce it but the two most recent thread pages didn't make that explicitly clear when I browsed them earlier, guess that one's off the blocks
728  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Authorship (ATS) token is a scam on: September 19, 2017, 11:31:47 PM
Now they're supposedly fixing the mistake BUT it seems anyone who didn't get their bounty needs to complete a "withdrawal form" that's more onerous than the original signup form, and the email giving that link was very vague as to the requirement to fill out to get your tokens if they missed you, but I expect shortly there'll be lots of "sorry you missed your chance because we added this previously undisclosed necessary step" and we're done distributing.

730  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining Rig Power Supply - A Better Alternative on: September 19, 2017, 03:52:09 PM
ABSOLUTELY AGREE that these are far better than any alternative for larger (>3) multi card rigs.

Ever since I switched over to just two of these to run the majority of my cards things have run more stably and I see a small power cost saving.

Plus these are less expensive up front than large atx supplies.
731  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HLM] HELIUM - PRE NOTICE on: September 19, 2017, 03:46:28 PM
Maybe this delaying, radio silence
(on this thread anyway, I would assume all the slack stuff gets relayed here quite promptly) is all part of the big plan.
You know, build up the suspense (and price), aligning the ducks, etc .
And thats not to say thats a bad thing.I still have total faith in this project.

Patience is a virtue, especially in this space.
Slow and steady wins the race.... (oh wow! that rhymes... how quaint!)

Agreed, it's very easy to get lost in the insane short term swings people see in this world.

The helium plan is very good, and I always hope to see development teams work intelligently, I'm just cynical from how many projects I've seen NOT pan out.

I'm still waiting patiently with my spread in my wallet.
732  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HLM] HELIUM - PRE NOTICE on: September 18, 2017, 04:06:21 PM
[

Re the spread price drop, that could also be because of the overall drop in cryptocoin price, as everything still follows BTC, and BTC got hit hard with China's ICO ban.

I think the price drop started well before the China news hit. Someone either knew a delay was coming or even knew the project will never finish.

There seems to be a few factors, Helium is almost certainly the prime mover in Spread pricing ATM, but Spread also has had something of a mining boom in the past month too, and when miners come in generally the price benefits as well (heavy mining usually causes a price rise because miners are then active on that coins markets).

I think the Helium anticipation and the mining hype were a two-pronged pump, and with the ICO/Exchange bans causing the FUD of the month, PLUS the delay/lack of communication out of this project caused some spread-helium speculators to loosen their grip.

Helium as an overall project concept is still quite solid and novel, it's for that reason I'm interested in it.  Novel uses with real world applications are what will drive long-term viability, however, the teams behind those ideas need to be able to deliver on them.  In the early days of this pre-notice I saw more upfront and timely communication than I have in the past two months supposedly shortly before their first major go-live, which is more than a little troubling.

I bought my spread in the VERY early days of this pre-ann so it could dump quite a bit more before I'd be at a loss, but it's still sad to see the stagnation.
733  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HLM] HELIUM - PRE NOTICE on: September 17, 2017, 10:49:26 PM
Being that we're halfway through the month with still nothing firm, i'm not going to hold my breath for a september snapshot.  I have no worries if a dev team admits development needs more time to be on track, in the end it's the code that matters, but I'm getting skeptical given the recent spread price drops that the delays are more about profit taking and price manipulation.  If that's true it leaves a bad taste as for the long-term viability of the project.

Lol, that's what it feels like. Every day I'm almost afraid to check the wallet to see if the rain has ended but I'm up over 5 pivx already in just a few days so I'm happy either way  Grin
735  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][PIVX] - PRIVATE INSTANT VERIFIED TRANSACTION - POS 2.0 - ZEROCOIN PROTOCOL on: September 14, 2017, 06:11:38 AM
Has anyone else seen an insane increase in stakes being made?  I may have just had the luckiest two days in my life staking, but wondered if something changed with the network.

If you get a ton of rewards in a very short time you're either very lucky or you just forked off the chain and you're staking alone. I had no stakes for 3-4 days now and I got 8k.

It's still pumping out WAY more than usual after several days and the stakes are all well confirmed, this is well beyond luck though, same balance I was making 2 to 3 stakes a month, now I'm seeing that many daily.
736  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Most ecologic way to handle the blockchain? on: September 14, 2017, 05:58:19 AM
Proof of work validated in pure kilowatt hours burned as validation, no hashing, just submitting your electric bill to the block chain monthly.
737  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Crash, Correction, Rumors... on: September 14, 2017, 05:55:59 AM
At this level it's still certainly a correction, however, it wouldn't take much support falling out beyond what already has to cause some serious panic sells from all the young money that's recently flowed in.

It doesn't take long to season yourself in this game and the smart ninety is still on wisely invested long positions.

If you think like stocks, rarely do small investors make trades in sub-6 month intervals, the pace of crypto can be amazing and terrifying.
738  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][OCL] Oceanlab: The nextgen Crypto lab. ICO Ended. on: September 13, 2017, 04:08:10 AM
I received a handful of these presumably from one of my lease pools.  Is this just another UWT?
739  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Bounties (Altcoins) / Re: [HLM] Helium - Campaign Thread - Bounty Information - HeliumPay.com on: September 13, 2017, 04:03:45 AM
Been holding a good chunk of spread for a few months now, and time for a fresh sig so this seems a good fit.

Hopefully the avatar updates shortly.

edit: now that I did the stake math it seems this one will be scarcely worthwhile for 8-10 stakes of a pool of 375 tokens Sad
