Satoshi has been opposed to the creation of new client software, so he probably won't want different clients listed on bitcoin.org.

The block at a certain number can change, which might cause you to point to the wrong address.

Adding "buying" and "selling" forums would be nice, but we still need a "general market" forum to discuss BTC-accepting sites.
The current moderation is fine. Spam is deleted quickly. I read every post in the marketplace forum, and I've seen no serious problems. The Chinese posts are coherent enough to understand. I will delete them if this is not the case.

The Bitcoin wiki is not "owned" by bitcoin.org. It's independent, which is good.

Maybe iptables is blocking outgoing Bitcoin traffic.

OK, thanks for the quick reply, I'll try that, how do you rescan by the way? Do you have to type in some commands? I'm not such a computer expert and I use windows 7.
Close Bitcoin. Go to start -> run (or press WinKey+R). Type this: %PROGRAMFILES%\Bitcoin\bitcoin.exe -rescan If it works, Bitcoin will take a long time to open, and the transactions should appear when it does open. This feature was introduced in the very recent 0.3.20 release, so you might not have it.

In the location where wallet.dat is located, delete all of the files except wallet.dat.
If you're using the latest version of Bitcoin, you can also run Bitcoin with the -rescan switch instead.
The problem is that Bitcoin already processed the blocks containing your transaction, and it doesn't look at them again for new transactions when you replace wallet.dat unless you do one of the things I mentioned.

Think about the IDEA for a moment, before you shoot somebody down.
Do you think I automatically argue against ideas without thought? I did think about the idea, and I concluded that it would defeat one of the main goals of Bitcoin, which is freedom from bad monetary policy. I don't want my wealth to be controlled by any other entity. I also know that it's impossible to enforce such a policy with Bitcoin. In the case of Belize, the policy is especially stupid because the US Federal Reserve doesn't care about the effects to Belize when it takes action. (Not that the US ends up much better...) China, which also uses a dollar-backed currency, is suffering from this right now. The currency of Belize might not fluctuate at all in relation to the dollar, but in relation to gold or other currencies, it's just as bad as the dollar.

|
|
That's a stupid policy. Why let terrible American monetary policy drag you down, as well?
It's not possible with Bitcoin, anyway, since it's not possible for the system to back BTC with anything (which is required to maintain a fixed exchange rate).

Yes, so, if my employer sells something I made for 800 BTC, but only gives me a fraction of that, why can I not sell it on the same market and collect all 800 BTC? Because my employer will charge me with theft!
If you can make the item without the employer, what's stopping you from doing so? Clearly the employer is offering something that allows you to complete the item.

The .05 btc is still 0/unconfirmed though.
Run Bitcoin with the -debug switch, double-click the transaction, and paste the transaction dump here.

They get to keep the BTC they earn, so they'll have some incentive to stay.

They are offering real goods and services! They should not be treated differently because they're Nefario's students. When you're trying to learn how to operate business, you want to be exposed to the real world economy with real competition as much as possible.
They shouldn't be forced into a subforum, but it would give Nefario more control over their posts. In the future, I may delete posts that are almost impossible to understand, especially if the title of the topic is misleading.

Here is my design with not so bright blue... I also made the menu slightly larger and gave it a drop shadow. Therefore, the menu and the main content are a little closer and it cut down on the negative space a little. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1791401/bitcoin-layout2.pngI've also attached a new design where the menu is attached to the main content. That one (the first one) is my favorite so far. I like the blue. From the image, it seems to be too wide, though. Does it work without horizontal scrolling with 1024x768?

A temporary subforum with Nefario as a local moderator would be nice. You should ask Sirius about it.

Tried it last night. I shut down bitcoin and then moved all but wallet.dat to another folder. I started bitcoin back up and it connected and I left it run for an hour, no changes. This morning when I turned my computer on bitcoin says: Error loading blkindex.dat
This makes me think your antivirus is messing with blkindex.dat. If you're using the most recent version of Bitcoin, try running it with the -rescan switch.

When you pay a fee does it get divided among the first 5 or 10 people or just the first one to solve the block? Never heard much about how they get distributed.
Just the person who gets the block. You can see a generation with a fee here: http://blockexplorer.com/t/6my4zCgnVXThe fees are combined into the same output as the generation.

State interference in the energy market will cause major problems, to be sure. It can't last forever, though. Eventually the market has to win. Maybe if the crash comes hard, people will wise up to the uselessness of governments (though I doubt it).
I haven't seen any data that causes me to be even remotely worried about "doomsday-class" climate change. From what I've seen, the worst-case scenario is a significant reduction in the amount of land suitable for farming. This will have a terrible effect on the economy, but we'll recover from it eventually.
