741  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why devcoin is so low despite it's market cap? on: November 16, 2013, 09:03:04 PM
It's because there's a very large number of DVC, but DVC is one of the few true altcoins, it's backed by devtome.com which got 33k visits last month.  That's an asset which gives it real value.  Plus the work that's done there is useful, I got paid in DVC for publishing my book on Devtome.  It's here - Walking upright:  The Appalachian Trail in Virginia

All the alts have been going down against bitcoin.  DVC is doing fine in terms of DVC/fiat.
744  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory - Discussion Thread on: November 14, 2013, 08:46:40 AM
Ok many thanks all for those answers, it's much appreciated! I'll get a really cheap laptop then.  Any more links to cheap laptops in the UK you'd recommend for this would be welcome... there's so many to choose from its hard to tell if 'refirbished' is safe enough for this.. (I've only ever bought Macs).
745  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory - Discussion Thread on: November 13, 2013, 09:16:10 PM
If I created a partition on the hard disk on my macbook and put the offline armoury wallet on that so that the online line + offline armoury were running on the same computer, would that work?  Would that be as secure as a separate device?

Thanks for the answers so far.

(I did try searching for answers to this question but couldn't find them).

Is this a suitable laptop for running offline armoury?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Notebook-Sandwich-Processor-supported-Compatible/dp/B0099MEZBU/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1384260944&sr=8-3&keywords=cheap+laptop

It says it runs android but I can install Ubuntu on there for free right?

Also, there are people around here running an offline Armory on a raspberry pi. It's not as polished as a laptop, but should turn out both smaller and less expensive.

Ente
I run offline Armory on a Raspberry Pi, and if I had to do it all over again I would opt for a cheap, used netbook/laptop with a detachable Wifi module.

For the RPi, you need an external keyboard, a mouse, a USB hub, a monitor and an SD card, which adds to both the price and the size. And unless you have a dedicated monitor for your offline wallet, you'll need a way to switch between monitors. I bought a DVI switch box, which let's me push a button to switch between outputs. But if you're OK with plugging and unplugging cables, you can do that of course.

All in all, I'd say it's more trouble than it's worth.

Just my two mBTC.

Interesting thanks I might go for the netbook then instead of the Pi.  Still hoping to find one for well under £100 though...

Less than $1000 for a 3D printer that prints metal: http://gigaom.com/2013/11/12/meet-the-mini-metal-maker-a-basic-sub-1000-3d-printer-that-prints-metal/

One of our goals was 3D printing metal wasn't it?

-MarkM-

We could have 3D printing designs paid for by Devtome.  Number of downloads of your design = number of DVC shares.
748  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Ripple Labs Announces $3.5 Million Investment Round on: November 13, 2013, 01:10:52 PM
Looks like ripple isn't dead, it just received $3.5 million in investment.  Thought this may be of interest to altcoiners:

I don't know about exchanging android with ubuntu, but I would recommend to shell out some more bucks and buy one of those:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/SD-BLK024L-7-inch-Netbook-Linux-Preloaded/dp/B001IBHVCA/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1384273655&sr=8-11&keywords=netbook+linux#productDetails

Asus is a decent company and it comes with xandros preinstalled, but you can easily install ubuntu (read the reviews).

Thanks! Smiley I'll look into raspberry pi as that is cheaper.

Round 28 is still being paid out, how long do we have left to write on Devtome to be included in round 29?

756  Economy / Speculation / Re: When will Bitcoin hit $500? on: November 07, 2013, 08:53:22 PM
hmmm this is a tough one.  I have quite high confidence we will reach $400 during this bubble, 2-4 weeks is my guess for $400.  $500 however I'm not sure if we will reach it this time, bitcoin might crash before then.  But I'll be bold and say this bubble will self-sustain until next year and then buttercoin will launch and shoot us up to $500 in January.  Or we could crash back to $100-$200 in a few weeks.
757  Economy / Speculation / Re: When will Bitcoin hit $300? on: November 07, 2013, 08:06:10 PM
This week or next week.

I was pretty damn close.  I said that on Oct 22nd.
758  Economy / Speculation / Re: When Will India Explode? on: November 07, 2013, 08:04:11 PM
Buttercoin is launching in India next year, if I remember correctly from the podcast I listened to it's set to launch there in Jan-Feb 2014.  That should give it a big boost.
759  Economy / Auctions / [WTS] btcrig.com and mybitcoins.co.uk (very low BIN) on: November 05, 2013, 12:37:40 PM
Hi all,

2 bitcoin related domains for sale:

btcrig.com and mybitcoins.co.uk

Here's a screenshot from my domain name registra proving my ownership of these domains:

http://imgur.com/DnP5gzV

0.06 BTC BIN for either domain.

0.1 BIN for both domains.

The BINs are very low so I'm not bothering accepting any lower offers.

Hoping we can do this without escrow, I have a localbitcoins account with a bunch of trades I can prove ownership of to prove my trustworthiness.

I'm on my phone, so sorry if I don't reply.

But
If you want writing support, ideas, or even just another group of writers to talk to, it's national novel writing month and I'm sure the nanowrimo.com threads are active as shit.

I'll be on there when I get Internet in my new apt, I'm HannibalImhotep there.

Also, everyone there is writing a 50,000 word book this month (or at least trying to) maybe a few of us should PM some invites to devtome.

That was my idea lol I said to you on mcxnow :p  Sounds good to me.
