I've only just started programming and I laughed my head off at quite a few

I think I can safely say I have complete contempt for games consoles these days, not surprised they released yet another games console in a desperate attempt to compete with desktops.

My point is, they will see the benefit if we wait patiently, governments are already setting up their own destruction with hyperinflation, I for instance didn't see much point in studying economics and history until I experienced a financial recession for myself, now I know how to defend against it, it will be the same for a lot of people when it comes to Bitcoin, chances are if we have another Cyprus or Greece people are going to immediately start looking for alternatives.

AMEN! this was a perfect response, I hope that everyone can reach this and realize the massive impact bitcoin is going to have in the worldwide economy. We all live in a digital age so why cant our currency be digital. I haven't even gotten started over the nice features like only needing one password and being able to clearly see all your transactions lol!

All you need are people with the balls to accept Bitcoin and people will find uses for it on their own, it will happen eventually, as someone who is setting up selling stuff for Bitcoin entirely I've done the maths and believe me the benefits of Bitcoin far outweigh the bad stuff ( if you can call anonymity and deflation and the like bad ) I would rather get 100 sales in Bitcoin than in paper. The amazing thing is because of how Bitcoin is still maintaining it's value if I make even less than 100 sales I will still be able to expand faster than I ever could in paper and that's because Bitcoin has more purchasing power.
Let's look at current pricing, if I managed to sell say, a game for 0.1 BTC and got 100 sales that would make 10 Bitcoins, selling the Bitcoins on the market even at lows would net me a lot more than paper and if I chose to trade with Bitcoin I have the added advantage of it keeping value after I trade it, at current prices I'd get about £848 going by MTGOX of course. If I sold the same at current paper money prices along with all the crap you have to deal with when it comes to paypal and the like I would only get around £700 and of course there's the problem of tons of regulation regarding the currency as well as the fact that paper money is all being hyper-inflated to nothing so by the time I get any of the money back it would have dropped in value massively. There's of course all the restrictions that are lifted in Bitcoin too, no one tells you what you can do with your money and so on, the only restrictions I can really see out in the open are the fact you need an internet connection and a computer of some sort but that's a small price to pay for having what is pretty much total freedom over your own finances, you can trade with anyone as well regardless of the country they're from.
Trust me, people are interested in Bitcoin, neo-keynesians and the government loyalists out there love to spread bullshit about Bitcoin and I've seen them do it even on these forums, we just have to be patient and wait for people to come to us and be helpful when they need it.

Why is it there are people out there who are as bad as the ones who keep harassing them because they insist on dragging as many people as possible into their personal dramas with others? Can't you find a better way to attention whore? Next thing you know this is going to be another community usurped by over-sensitive jackasses.

Spammers etc. are beginning to adapt slowly, you can see obvious spammers making generic "I like this" type of comments in the hopes of not being spotted, not surprised to see them show up on such a public forum.

When people don't want to use my money to blow giant craters in other peoples' countries for shits and giggles let me know and then I'll share So you basically mean never. Honestly, sounds like a really poor excuse to just be selfish. Fine by me, but why not just own that without the excuses? If you think that taxes have anything to do with with being generous you're incredibly naive.

Those offering virtual currencies must comply with these regulatory requirements and if they do so they have nothing to fear... Read more carefully, this alone has made me automatically raise my middle finger, I shouldn't have to explain to people why.

Representative democracy isn't democracy. That's a soft form of corporate dictatorship. What we can call democracy is the direct democracy. Just take a look at Switzerland. The only really democratic state on the world. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voting_in_SwitzerlandSwitzerland has as fantastic idea for Democracy, we had a referendum on the UK about the AV voting system ( Australia ) I was more than happy to vote in that because the politicians were actually asking for my opinion rather than just making all the decisions for themselves, I really hope we get a referendum on the EU >_<. Citizens should always have the right to overturn a law by a politician otherwise you're simply electing a dictator every few years rather than a real leadership. If we had direct democracy the war in iraq at least here in the UK would never have happened ( over a million people marched against it ), the bailouts would never have happened because people were having anger fits about them and we could overturn currency monopoly laws with enough signatures.

Banning people is what fake democracies and dictatorships do, for the most part we're all Libertarians and Anarchists here

Yeah, it's like with those freelancing sites and other sites that work in a similar way, seems like a great idea at first but then you find out everyones fake and they're out to scam you and not necessarily always for money.

So I've been looking around the market for awhile now at different headsets and I want to find out peoples opinions on what the nicest and most comfortable one out there is. I originally bought a Creative Soundblaster headset but holy shit the build quality was appalling. Everything else was amazing but no matter how carefully I tried to look after it the thing kept breaking, this is going to be a present for myself so I'm not going to hold back money wise when I get it. What I look for in a headset: . It can't be broken by me dropping it on a soft carpet by accident or placing it gently on the table ( seriously that's how bad the creative one was lol ) . I should be able to blast the music as loud as I want at 4:00am without waking anyone up . I should feel like I'm in a theatre with the surround sound . A decent mic would be a plus, it doesn't have to be fantastic quality but I like chatting with friends on skype Anyone got any recommendations to make? I'm currently looking at this http://shop.sennheiser.co.uk/store/sennheis/en_GB/pd/productID.221441400, people seem to swear by Sennheiser these days and it does look better built from what I can see but would it be worth the money?

Bitcoin is open source, the U.S government couldn't do a thing, if they tried to shut the Bitcoin devs down then everyone would just hop onto the various alternate currencies they like the look of instead. If it had been closed source then it would be another story, but whoever Statoshi is they had the foresight to make it open source in case something like this happened. Oh and that's a totally pro-government newspaper, so I wouldn't be surprised they're trying to manipulate people to do as they're told, they're probably the same people coming onto the forum to tell us to pay our taxes.

|
|
There has been some movement but I'm betting they're waiting for their 'right' moment to go after Bitcoin, the thing is though, I think though in terms of keeping the thing online it's going to be like Bittorrent, they may take down a few places and arrest one or two of us but in the end we'll be way too clever for them.

The only way you could do that is if human beings were all like robots and had no will of there own, don't you watch any sci-fi?

No currency will change the fundamentals of the human condition. There is no utopia to be found on this mortal plane.
You're right - we should continue to accept and authorize government intervention into the economy. He's not talking about government intervention at all, even if we had a purely free market there would still be the usual problems, the difference is that they would be less severe and wouldn't be forced onto people by a single leadership.

This is a very interesting idea, the problem is you're going to have to get governments to accept it as legal insurance, in which case it's pointless, like with currencies there is a monopoly over insurance policies, like I said in my earlier post, we have compulsory car insurance in the UK, so you'd have to make sure to provide legal paperwork before you operate in that country as well as others and if someone wants to make a claim there's all other sorts of bureaucracy and even attending court.
I think it would be practical in a purely Bitcoin economy where we finally got rid of paper money, but as it stands now I suspect insurance companies aren't going to go along with it and exercise their influence.
|
|
|
The problem with insurance companies and others like them is of course you have to submit a mountain of paperwork and personal information about yourself in order to even be considered for an insurance policy, I would love it if we could get anonymous insurance, or even anonymous car insurance ( here in the UK it's compulsory ) but with the way things are Bitcoin stands against everything that insurance companies and other companies like them believe in so they'll probably be the last ones to fall or accept Bitcoin I suspect.
