Sorry man but I have to say this...
Being able to overclock something past its design hashrate is great, but that extra hashrate comes at a cost.  Having the fans run constantly and the hardware running harder adds some risk to the investment.  You're expecting that extra hashrate to equal an increase in value, which is absolutely true, but the extra value shouldn't be proportionate to the original $/Gh basis that you're calculating the value on.  If your buyer is making extra BTC by running it harder, that harder risk should be rewarded.  Maybe increasing the value by 50% on extra hashrate rather than 100% would make more sense, at least to me anyway.

Another example of this would be the eruptor blades.  They shouldn't be based on a 13gh/s value, but rather a 10gh/s with an overclocking incentive.

This is just my opinion, if you don't agree with me then just ignore my post.  Smiley
Blades are probably the worst example to use. They are NOT overclocked at 13GH, they have two clock settings - allowing the user to choose to prioritise power consumption or hash rate.

Avalon based OCing is 'true' overclocking, but at the same time there was headroom built into the chips. Yifu said recently "you finally found it", as he'd posted within the github about this some time ago. There is some risk like everything in bitcoin, and nothing else. You can choose to run the unit at 85 (or higher, I don't have the right cooling here and have to sleep next to this unit) or at 66.

Every bid so far has been for a 66GH miner, I don't think anyone is attaching directed worth to the overclocking as no one can gaurantee it. And think, if I was truly increasing the price proportionally, @100GH that'd be 150% market price for the 66GH units - which I'm no where near.

How are people reading this so wrong. The FIRST batch of chips. Ie the first 10k order, of what - 980k?

7807  Economy / Marketplace / Re: 3D Printer for Bitcoin on: June 25, 2013, 07:45:44 PM
This is the best printer I could find for the money http://www.punchtec.com/

It's the Ord Bot Hadron. Very fast. I can print an entire AR lower at .2mm resolution in 8 hours, at 200mm/s. I can print with nylon as well, since the extruder is not lined.

Its also quite large and expensive for FDM/ME. Remember that increased speed = decreased accuracy, regardless of what the max resolution is, and running at a better resolution = increased time. 3DP is all about tradeoffs.

If everything else was equal, yes. If you want to compare screw driven, flimsy repraps to linear bearings and rigid frames... it's another story. It is not considerably larger or smaller than any other 200x200mm printable area model... and compared to anything else that's assembled and ready to print, it's not expensive. I wasn't interested in building a printer, I was interested in printing. I get great looking, dimensionally accurate parts. The only problems I've had have been with the QU-BD extruder.

Its not about the bearings and frames, honestly. When you really look at the engineering of it, there are so many forces going on within the polymer melt. As you increase the speeds, the cyclindrical melt acts and deposits very differently.

You obviously haven't seen the crap most people are printing on. Linear bearings are a huge step up in both speed and accuracy for home printers.

I know what cheap units are like. We have 20 or so £200 units we use as demonstrations and teaching.

7809  Economy / Scam Accusations / Scam accusation - miningusa on: June 25, 2013, 06:58:36 PM
This person has been selling unit after unit of Avalons, batch 2, batch 3, batch 2 in hand, batch 3 hosting, batch 2 hosting - every combination you can imagine. He has so far not delivered anything but has taken payment for >100btc. He has refused to provide any proof he has ordered anything or purchased anything.

His first 20 posts were 4 words each:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=114370;sa=showPosts;start=140
And his following 20 were not any better. All were made on the same day.:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=114370;sa=showPosts;start=120

On the same day [1 day old account], he first tried to auction a batch 3 hosting. It had to be signposted by a mod it was a likely scam. Thread was self locked with no sale:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=200123.msg2087043#msg2087043

After the failure, went back to spamming short posts to increase count:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=114370;sa=showPosts;start=80
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=114370;sa=showPosts;start=60

Then he tried to sell again:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=203835.msg2130407#msg2130407
Gains no interest.

Tries again, this time pretending he wants to sell a single batch 2 module. Continues spamming while selling:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=114370;sa=showPosts;start=40
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=210920.msg2210250#msg2210250

Conveniently doesn't want all via escrow
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=210920.msg2215393#msg2215393
I am potentially happy to receive half and half in escrow once the module arrives but obviously this wouldn't be of preferance ideally as I'm looking to free up some coins otherwise I wouldn't be looking to sell.

Sells a module but still has a buyer. Magically wants to sell another unit, at cost still.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=210920.msg2245692#msg2245692
I decided to sell more than 1 module from my avalon batches. zero asic is having his module delivered to him. This option is available.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=210920.msg2243285#msg2243285
Payment for one module sent.  Transaction details as follows:

Amount: 20BTC + 0.4BTC shipping
Address: 1KG9xPagPWCKZST821qckqukWU4c7PNJ1J
https://blockchain.info/address/1KG9xPagPWCKZST821qckqukWU4c7PNJ1J

PM sent with contact information.
Specific Transaction: https://blockchain.info/tx/9186f4e81727e2ae3fab83880c1ee30b0fe7fb944652a649ca308aeb5abbad0d

Another user asked for verification (I've traded with dcou I'm pretty sure)
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=210920.msg2257255#msg2257255
Well, let's see here:

-You provided a Drivers License with the DL# and your address blacked out
-You sent an Avalon receipt with no identifying information, just a transaction id.
-You refused to meet me in person in a public place
-You could not provide the first page of a credit card bill, bank statement, utility bill or any other bill, citing that you live with your father in law and don't pay bills.
-After all that, you refused to do escrow.

I don't think you even live in the US.  I mean, who comes home from the cinema at 10am?

Stop wasting everyone's time.

Sells a second unit to the original buyer. Remember these are batch 2 modules and he is selling them for 20btc.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=210920.msg2309136#msg2309136
Second transaction details:

Amount: 35BTC
Address: 1FLEszZt6KLYSQjMSu2s6YS7SRFveST6r3
https://blockchain.info/tx/93538a002e2c7c01e62d296cd7f9fc7e53a7fd9e0b244200faa9c75d2033a329

He also claims a third unit was sold to finlof:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=210920.msg2306191#msg2306191
Buyers:
zero-asic
finlof

1 module still remains for sale, we are having a conferance call on monday between all buyers so grab your slot to be involved. Last chance, it's being sold today.

Then suddenly a 4th module appears:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=210920.msg2351994#msg2351994

Today he starts advertising a fresh Avalon 2, and says he has "a few coming in next week". He will only accept 50% by escrow, and posts a photoshopped tracking.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=242644.msg2573886#msg2573886
I have a few avalon asics coming which will be here by next week. I have sold a few modules from one of them and am looking to free up some coins by selling half or a whole unit for hosting or it can be shipped to you. Details below:

- Hosting fee is 3%
- Due to the value I will only accept 50% in escrow as also I need the coins sooner rather than later for other investments
- Shipping cost will be .5 on top of your bid
- Escrow through John K only
- Unit will be sold to the highest full unit bidder or the 2 highest half unit bidders
- Auction ending in 48hrs

Note how DHL tracking should look:
http://www.dhl.co.uk/content/gb/en/express/tracking.shtml?brand=DHL&AWB=9112787364%0D%0A
Waybill number deleted
The command line is shortened. It would read "Departed facility from x...".
The path makes no sense. Why would it depart "Hong Kong", only to depart Hong Kong again 12 hours later?
Destination service area starts on the 2nd line, when it should on the 1st
And finally, Avalons are sent from China, not fucking HK.

tldr: miningusa has and is still selling fake units using fake information and has failed to provide actual proof of anything. He is now using photoshooped tracking screenshots to scam more people.

If anyone has UK/EU units, I maybe interested.
7811  Economy / Auctions / Re: 1/2 or Full Unit Avalon Asic Batch 2 Hosted or Shipped (3% Hosting) on: June 25, 2013, 03:45:55 PM
Assume scam until proven otherwise, which he still hasn't done. Has sold preorders for unit after unit without proving anything. For a start these units come from China, not HK.
7812  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon stable @ 98,986Mhash/sec on: June 25, 2013, 07:46:52 AM
was wondering how long it'd take people to notice ( and more importantly share the constant that we've released on github.)

the number you are all aiming for is 450 Tongue of course, that's not really possible on just air cooling.

You are a clever, clever man.

What is the limit when we approach these speeds, the chips, the boards, the power delivery (ignore PSU) or the cooling?
7813  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: June 25, 2013, 07:42:01 AM
So I thought I'd make it easy for everyone to try the latest cgminer 3.3.0 and overclock settings all rolled into one, so here is a firmware with the overclock settings settable from the web interface:

http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/avalon/20130624/openwrt-ar71xx-generic-tl-wr703n-v1-squashfs-factory.bin

Note that I have donation settings in the configuration so if you do not use your own config settings, it will start mining for me until you change them.

Usual warnings apply with aggressive overclocking: do so at your own risk!

Enjoy  Wink

tried running the modded firmware on my btach 1's just to see if running the fanz on MAX(not above 300mhz) would make the units cooler/more efficient...... the fan with the blue light just jams when i try this though, it obviously has issues with going at max speed

Sounds like the opposite, like its not getting enough (if any) voltage to spin. Fans don't stop spinning if you run them 'too fast', they'd simply burn out above 12V.
7814  Economy / Auctions / Re: [WTS] B2 Avalon In Hand on: June 25, 2013, 06:59:04 AM
Want to sell as I'm now going to be travelling alot over the next 9 months and my parents house is already overheating from all the GPUs xD Moving to group buy income shares.

.. already back from your journey  Cheesy

GPU's ... blades ... and now you are selling avalon's  Huh

Not started travelling yet, although these units are so nice and dainty I could take 2 with me.

Never sold a GPU, that was greaterninja.
Sold my blades and those of others.
Yes I am selling Avalons.
7815  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: June 25, 2013, 06:57:43 AM

I like the creativity expressed in the naming of speed choices.

Please add 450 MHz as Ludicrous speed

as DEATH RACE

http://www.mycom.nl/hardware/voedingen/9687/corsair-tx750m

is this good enough for upgrading a batch 1 PSU?

Mine had a 750 watt Gold Enermax, so replacing with a 750 watt Bronze power supply may not be an upgrade.

I thought batch 1 had gold 650W PSU? I have one of those corsair bronze laying around.................. would it be better than a gold 650w?

I don't think Avalon is using just one power supply.  I know someone with multiple units that had different power supplies.  How many watts is the bronze power supply?  I guess the only way to find out for sure is to try it out - and use a power meter while you're at it.

I'm sure there were 3-4 different modules used at least. Seasonic, 2 different chinese brands etc
7817  Economy / Auctions / Re: [WTS] B2 Avalon In Hand on: June 24, 2013, 11:01:59 PM
You know the deal. This unit is arriving with me on Monday.

  • 3 module.
  • 66-71 (or even 80 with the new clock speeds) GH.
  • Assume PSU isnt included.
  • Shipped from the UK, globally.
  • Up to 2btc worth of shipping included (ie if it costs 4 to ship, you'll pay 2).
  • Happy to escrow (John K) but you'll pay fees.
  • Auction ends Friday 28th at midnight GMT+1.
  • Bids extend by 1 hour.

Auction starts  at 100btc. Minimum increment of 1btc.
I reserve the right to withdraw this auction or sell by pm/blind bid.

As tradition requests. 100 BTC are you crazy? Total scam. Etc.
Yeah, offering 100% via escrow and trading history is totally a scam.
