7884  Economy / Economics / Re: Bakkt is done? on: February 14, 2020, 06:09:21 PM
I disagree with that, everyone needing to sell an important amount of BTC could have interest in BTC futures.
For example if you need to buy a car or a flat in June you will be happy to be able to secure now a virtual sell of your bitcoins at 10800$ on a future exchange
Makes no sense if you ask me

You can just sell your bitcoins for dollars (or whatever) and get done with that. Or not sell anything at all and just keep your bitcoins intact until you actually need them, and hopefully with their price risen by that time. The example you provide makes sense for producers who buy raw materials in advance and want to secure current prices for future production because it affects their profits. With direct consumption like buying a car or whatever futures are pretty much useless (not even speaking of trade costs they incur)
But thankfully to futures you can just sell your BTCs in June at the current price (even a little bit higher in fact). Of course you're free to gamble on the price in June on the spot market, and just wait until then to see... but if Bitcoin worths $7000 in June finally, you will lose almost 40%...

7889  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [GUIDE] A good post/reply and formatting on: February 14, 2020, 04:53:54 AM
I guess the OP didn't include both underlining and literally highlighted texts as it is somehow the same size and seems to not calls off attention as much as his tips did, because even I myself don't see underlining being worth to have enough attention especially if the post/replies were too long and the subject or idea to be embossed is in the middle of the context.

I also see that the OP's tips is mostly used in formats in the world of Academe/Universities, as it offers not to be so simple and not to be exaggerated at the same time.
I don't think words in italic are more visible than underlined ones. So I'm not sure you're right to assume that's for this reason. Moreover underlined sentences are often used in titles, even in academic articles.
7890  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Discussion & Betting] Eurovision Song Contest 2020 on: February 14, 2020, 04:26:37 AM
@Saint-loup, @Stalker22, I'm not saying that Eurovision isn't popular, but these 150-200 million people watching it mainly comes from Europe. While Olympic games or World Cup is watched by billions. And as you can see, Eurovision is far from being in the list of most watched TV programs https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_most-watched_television_broadcasts#List
Yeah, Eurovision is shown outside Europe, but it's not on main TV channels with biggest ratings, maybe except Australia.
And I used USA just as example, there could be another country like Brazil, Nigeria or whatever you want. Until 2019 it wasn't shown there on big TV network, until Netflix bought it. And here is one of articles where it's explained why Eurovision isn't a thing in USA:
https://www.google.com/amp/s/qz.com/86543/five-reasons-why-americans-will-never-understand-the-point-of-eurovision/amp/
And yeah, Madonna was there, but obviously not because Eurovision is popular in States. She just got lot of money for performance, same like on her World Tours and that's all.
It takes place once a year while it's only every 4 years for FIFA world cup and Olympic games... So it's 200 millions viewers every year.
As I understand you're not american, that's why you think american people have no culture and don't care about Europe and the rest of the world, but you're wrong.

Germany and UK (and Spain and France) always perform very poor ranking wise.
I agree with you for France, and this year it's even worse than the previous years, it's a totally unknown folk/blues singer(in fact his father is a famous humorist) singing in english. If I can bet France not reaching the top 10, I will do it  Roll Eyes

Obviously a moderator thought nuking a poison-pen letter writer using an anonymous brand new account was appropriate. I wouldn't say it isn't personally. (Only newbie accounts can be nuked by moderators AFAIK)

If scam accusation was valid he should have been banned and not nuked, imho.

Moderators can't ban accounts AFAIK, they can only nuke them.
It's a GM and administrator role.

I am just curious about this topic https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5219960.0, as it doesn't exist any more.

Unfortunately we can't see the thread anymore but we can see the author had been nuked the 6th february, so all his posts should have been deleted.

I thought the rules only apply if you post unsolicited referral links.
That's for PMs: if someone asks for it, sending referral links by PM are okay
No I think UserU is right.
According to mprep himself it's ok to post referral links in this situation.
That is to say, only the "spam" of referral codes is forbidden.

4. No referral code (ref link) spam. [1]

If you are posting a reply on a thread, and your answer is relevant. Would adding your referral link instead of the plain url be a problem?

For example, you are suggesting service a-dot-com as an answer's to OPs question. Would a ref link (a-dot-com?ref=my-ref) be allowed?
If the post is directly on-topic (like in your example) and is constructive (i.e. not just parotting content that was already posted), it's allowed.
7897  Economy / Economics / Re: Bakkt is done? on: February 13, 2020, 03:46:23 PM
Very interesting.  I was among those who thought Bakkt would boom once launched, because I'd figured that hedge funds and other big-money investors would want in on the crypto game, and the only good way to do that would be through futures and options.  Apparently the reception is tepid at best, and I'm kind of surprised to see that.

Even the volume on the CME seems pretty low.  I've no idea what's going on behind the scenes, but my guess is that if business doesn't pick up on Bakkt, they'll shut their doors

My take is that no one is actually interested in Bitcoin derivatives

How come? The reason for that is simple. You can store Bitcoin without any hassle and the requirement to pay storage and transportation costs, for example (apart from transaction fees, obviously). And in this regard Bitcoin is strikingly different from gold, oil, gas, and other material assets. With them derivatives make perfect sense as you can buy and sell paper gold, etc. But paper bitcoins simply don't cut it as you can just as easily have real bitcoins totally under your control in your personal wallet
I disagree with that, everyone needing to sell an important amount of BTC could have interest in BTC futures.
For example if you need to buy a car or a flat in June you will be happy to be able to secure now a virtual sell of your bitcoins at 10800$ on a future exchange. You won't want to have to look at the price everyday till june while praying the Savior for the price to not drop.
7898  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Accidently send USDT to ghost erc20 wallet ! on: February 13, 2020, 01:57:30 PM
Ghost wallet mean, Its no one owner that address. Im just copy wrong the charracter Sad
Unlike Bitcoin there is no checksum in the usual ethereum addresses, so you have to be very careful when you use them.
Not everyone knows it but there is a checksummed format for ethereum addresses. The EIP55 one.
https://github.com/ethereum/EIPs/blob/master/EIPS/eip-55.md
It's exactly the same address as your current one, but in a case sensitive derived form.
You can obtain it by typing your ordinary address on etherscan.io for example.
If your wallet doesn't support the checksum feature, you can use online validators https://tokenmarket.net/ethereum-address-validator

Undecided
