7961  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: I generated an address that already exists on: October 20, 2013, 07:20:18 PM
Do we actually know what happened?
See the thread. The transaction was already in his wallet (thats what the gettransaction checks for), which wouldn't have been possible if a duplicate address had just been generated.  We don't know what exactly happened but there are several other hypothesis which are more consistent with the facts than there being an actual duplicate address generated.

E.g. a unclean wallet shutdown made it miss flagging that address as used, thus resulting in it handing it out again, or a mouse mis-targeting resulted in the OP generating an address but then copying another.

Also, now that the newly received coin has been spent we can see that both the new instance and old instance used the same public key (03a97dfbd26061494c9369cd469f8422f7c5f16e4fd6b4da42e42138e711f7fd6f), which means that it's 256 bits involved, not just 160. (E.g. if your hypothesis was a chance collision the probability of that is now 79,228,162,514,264,337,593,543,950,336 times lower than before we knew for sure that he was using the same public keys).

A collision didn't happen here, I'd stake my life on it gladly.  With respect to a bad PRNG, things are possible, but the code in Bitcoin-qt has been audited by many people (including myself personally) and that seems unlikely (also, if it were to happen, considering the design I would expect consecutive duplicate addresses and not just one).

this plus the fact that the OP doesn't seem to want to prove he owns the address answers the question for me.
7962  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin UP. on: October 20, 2013, 07:08:08 PM
it doesn't matter who's right.

the point is, production and stock is fuzzy; and it always will be.  which is precisely why i switched to BTC investment back in early 2011.  Bitcoin is easily trackable according to the protocol by anyone.  it's brutally defined.  and time is proving it's uncrackable.

just one of the many reasons i've been arguing to switch publicly since Gold: I Smell A Trap.
7963  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitcoinorama: Shill for KNC? Hardware is too full of sock puppets on: October 20, 2013, 06:20:13 PM
Desperation is a foul stench indeed.
au contraire.
given the sequence of events, i am brimming with confidence.
I can't imagine Hashfast got their money's worth out of you.

... in fact cypherdoc's shilling was so bad I had to put him on ignore and made a point of ignoring anything relating to Hashfast.

Have zero interest in whatever it is they are working on or putting out because of that dude. Same with Butterfly Labs because of Inaba / Josh Zerlan. Yifu / Bitsyncomm / Avalon ? Don't get me started...

Competition is getting way to fierce for their douche-baggery to be rewarded and supported.

Bitcoinorama, obviously being involved with KnC, seems to be a reasonable guy, and I can't say anything bad about him.

 </0.02BTC>

Yet none of what you call shilling ever occurred in the KNC thread. How odd.

On the other hand there was no shortage of guys like you who trolled the HF threads as well as mine.

As for ytter, he's just an angry guy.
7964  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: I generated an address that already exists on: October 20, 2013, 05:55:52 PM
OP (or a mod) should change the topic subject to something which more accurately describes what happened here in order to cut down on confusion.

Do we actually know what happened?
7965  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: I generated an address that already exists on: October 20, 2013, 05:41:31 PM
Somethings up with this post.

OP said he sent small amount to address but that was timestamped on 10/20 yet the OP is on 10/19? Is that a UTC thing or is he BS'ing?

I suggest he proves to us he controls the private key for this address by publicly making another tx to this of 0.123 and then immediately redeeming.
7966  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast announces specs for new ASIC: 400GH/s on: October 20, 2013, 12:27:40 PM
Guys, i've yet to understand to what date we have to sum this week of delay to. 17 of october? 25 of october? 30 of october?
And what's this expensive (for our pockets) component? Are you running out of capacitors? (avalon did, remember?)
Up.
Up. Plus:

Please tell me that there is a good reason to put the PSU air intake there, in a spot that once in a rack, no air can come trough.

And if such a good reason doesn't exist, i HAVE to conclude that it is only a rendering of a non existing case for something that will not ship anytime soon done and approved from people that doesn't have any idea of what they are doing.

Those are psu exhaust openings on the side.

Looo!!  Cypher, have you opened a 'puter box open IRL? Cheesy  Not only is that an intake, but reversing teh fan would only make things worse, with PS sucking in the hot exhaust.  If the intake on the side is blocked off by rack walls (it isn't, most racks don't block the sides), so would the exhaust Cheesy

No. Simon and I have talked specifically about this. Those are exhaust openings in the sides. In fact, one has to make provisions for this in their rack selection.
7967  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin UP. on: October 20, 2013, 12:17:17 PM

Hudes says something about 140,000 tons of gold in vaults on Hawaii. Any merit to this?

She also says in the comments to this video:

Up to this point I estimated there to be around 160,000 tons of gold above ground and I think that's along the lines of other estimates.

If this turns out true, it'll be "Gold collapsing, Bitcoin UP" for real.

If it were true, FEDs would not have bought some hundreds of tons of gold right before its price topped.

So you believe that the FED is better than the Bank of England and Gordon Brown at timing these things?
7968  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast launches sales of the Baby Jet on: October 20, 2013, 12:11:01 PM
KNC took their lumps, not sure what else you can say there.

But I think you might have a sore spot here if nothing shows up by next weekend

why is it so hard to believe that they are going to be late due to circumstances out of their control?  which company, including KNC, delivered on time?

as i said before, i should be the one upset as an order holder in HF.  what's your beef?

The thing is, as Amy helpfully pointed out, the delays are not due to silicon.  In other words, they've failed with some other aspect of design or failed in some other equally lulworthy way, like designing their boards around parts they're unable to source.  Imagine if KNC delayed shipping because the standoffs on their cases didn't line up with the holes in the boards, or the screws they ordered had the wrong thread pitch Shocked  It's *THAT* sort of incompetence we're talking about.

As far as you having more cause to be upset?  Sure.  Though it's as satisfying as seing a used car salesman getting stuck with one of the lemons he tried to push Cheesy

AFAIK it is a supplier that is having the difficulty delivering as per their projected time line.

At least they conveniently put the on/off switch somewhere... out of reach.

The back is out of reach?

Higher cost and lower quality? Doubtful. While Seasonic makes excellent power supplies, there are many other companies that do the same.
Even if Seasonic itself was exclusive, you could just go buy these and call it a day.

You do realise that the XFX PSU you linked to is actually a rebadged Seasonic X-Series KM3 unit? In fact most of the high end (up to 1000W) Gold and platinum PSU's from various companies are made for those companies by Seasonic including the latest models within Corsair’s AX series.

Yes, I do realize that. It was the exact reason I posted it. If for some reason Cointerra doesn't want to purchase one of the other excellent power supplies out there and really, really wants the same PSU as Hashfast, they could just do so from another vendor. Not that it's likely that HashFast has any exclusivity deal as cypherdoc was implying, but even if so that deal would be effectively useless.

i've clarified that it is not an exclusive.
7972  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast announces specs for new ASIC: 400GH/s on: October 20, 2013, 02:12:28 AM
I'm at a BTC meetup in Sunnyvale, where the Hashfast VP of Engineering is giving a talk right now.

This is admittedly rather time-sensitive, but if anyone has any questions, I'll be happy to ask 'em!

Ask if they're still on schedule for shipping next week.

Not surprisingly, this was indeed one of the questions that came up last night.

And, as of a few days ago, ... ...  it looks like we're probably going to slip, by about a week.

Ironically, not because of the silicon, even though that is the part of the system that takes the longest to manufacture. That's going through the foundry smoothly. But we ran into a delay sourcing one of our other components.
...

So you got the chips today?  It's the 17th, your projected date for getting the chips from TSMC?  Am i misremembering?

Trolls are funny.

This is what, the eighth time you've posted this hour? The eighth time in one hour you repeat what you hope is an embarrassing question?

The process at the foundry is going well. Someone posted an optimistic date, one I personally did not approve of nor condone. (Sorry, cypherdoc.)

And I cannot give any other dates for the foundry. I can tell you when they pop out of the oven, nothing sooner.

But honestly the foundry is not important, because that is not what will ultimately delay us. That delayed component is what is pushing our date out. Funny that you harp on the foundry when you could be harping on delayed shipping instead.

I do wonder - what else is going on today, that these repeated 'embarrassing' posts are supposed to distract us from?

Amy

.... Who is somewhat regretting her decision to hang out on the forums this afternoon.

P.S. If people DO have other questions about HashFast, please feel free to send them my way.

just to clarify this, Eduardo CEO ok'd me releasing this Oct 17 date.  unfortunately, it represented the earliest, most optimistic date of the estimated window and it turns out this wasn't met.

Congrats cypherdoc, 300 pages is quite impressive trying to make a point

it's actually about 370 pages at this point.

don't forget most of my efforts/posts making this point were made starting here 8/9/11 right before the peak:

CIARA ramping up yet?
All those exclusive seasonics psu hand delivered by Vinny Chang yet?

Next weekend we'll probably be at 340mil diff

DO you know where your ROI is?

So you want me to go back to posting in your  KNC thread?
7976  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast launches sales of the Baby Jet on: October 19, 2013, 01:34:58 PM
p.s. since I wasn't talking to cypherdoc, and he thought I was, I can only conclude by his statements that cypherdoc == Hashfast_CL == unpaid.  Got it.

Wow, you're really smart.
7977  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast launches sales of the Baby Jet on: October 19, 2013, 12:47:00 PM

You say "20% safety margin" and I think "20% overclocking margin."   Wink

Whoa!  Stop the press... that sounds like something an end-user would say, not an employee of Hashfast.

Furthermore...

IMPORTANT UPDATE

HashFast customers opting for the Miner Protection Program will receive their additional ASICs already assembled onto mini-boards.

Hashfast, the company, apparently wasn't fully onboard with this... as evidenced by the subsequent post by Amy Woodward only two hours later:

Quote from: Amy Woodward
This statement needs to be clarified and was released prematurely. We are currently in the final stages of an internal discussion about how to further protect miners moving forward for customers that opt into purchasing it.

So, tell us, are you employed by Hashfast?  Will someone from an official Hashfast account confirm that?  If not, you're some form of unaffiliated shill.  Are you cypherdoc?

If you're not officially affiliated with Hashfast, the moderators should change your name.  Hashfast employees, what's the deal?

It's not me you idiot.

I already said I'm not being paid by Hashfast

Gold collapsing. Bitcoin UP.

CoolIT has already developed dual processor liquid cooling system back in 2010 that can dissipate up to 900 watts of heat.  2 of them should be able to fit in the new 4U chassis.  With Overclock performance of over 500 GH per chips (according to Simon's post in the other thread) that is 2TH in a single box, same as Cointerra's TerraMiner IV...  Speaking of which, you can see Cointerra's new 3D renderings of their 4U case design and see they use 1 large radiator to cool 2 ASIC chips.   One can only dream!

One "issue" (only for a moder) with those preconfigured waterloops is generally they are sealed systems.  You can't add an extra waterblock.  So while the unit can handle 900W of heat you couldn't connect 3 waterblocks to it.  Still based on the dimensions it does look like HF could use two waterloops like that to cool 4 boards per chassis (call it a 4 module Sierra or maybe give it a new name).   Lots of interesting options.

I (maybe a minority) am more interested in a custom solution.  Single large radiator, separate pump, separate reservoir and the ability to custom built a different solution.  Using two "server" style power supplies (they tend to be thinner) one could maybe put 6 modules in a single chassis (4U).  Smiley
Im with you.

Use off the shelf PC WC parts (pumps rads res etc). Server hot-swap PSUs etc. easy to do, and should not be that expensive at all (its all consumer grade stuff anyways)

+1

Because hes saying F U, not fuck.

didn't you know?

the Russian version of that is fuk.  past tense is fukt as one of our esteemed members indicates.
