What is with the 2 pin connectors? Do I need an adapter to hook this thing up to my power supply? or does it just run off the 6 pin?

The first units only had those 2-pin deals, but your'e good with just using the 6pin PCIe for power on the units that have them.

is there a way to see the actual cgminer process going on? I doubt it recognises anything other than the first board but id love to check the live log and settings

still looking for a way to track the actual cgminer stats to see the error rates and per-board details

If you SFTP in, under /home/pi/Garden you'll find "miner.php"

Copy that over to /var/www

then go to [your.controller's.ip.address]/miner.php

Good old fashioned no-frills CGminer web interface. Won't give you per board details but at least shows you HW errors.

That said....

(Note I'm not gonna do a full tutorial here because I was just messing around myself, so YMMV)

As far as actually seeing the CGMiner output, I briefly tried a thing - I installed "screen" to their OS (which seems to be some sort of raspbian) and then edited the start.sh command to use screen instead of 'nohup' to call CGminer.
Then you can just SSH in and sudo screen -r to view the miner output.

I wasn't thrilled with this.

Now, it's worth noting their fork of CGminer doesn't seem to have a fully functional TUI - so, working with the API is probably a better way to get data from CGminer. if nothing else, you can edit the start.sh command which currently sends the output to /dev/null to send it's output to some sort of a log file. It seems to generate a LOT of output so I'm not sure how fast this would fill up. But if you just wanted to run it for a while to see whats up just change /dev/null to like /home/pi/cg.log and then pluck the log file to rummage through for useful data.

If you're savvy I'm sure you can install some sort of a log-rotator to compress and save old logs - but I haven't tried such.

Honestly I'd like to see an 8pin EPS12v to 6pin PCIe adapter. I caniballized an EPS12v extender to attach leads from my R-Boxes but most of the hardware I'm ordering these days uses PCIe connectors, and most of these power supplies have 8pin 12v connector that I can't easily use.

I'm not sure how many others would be in the market for such, but I'd sure like to see it. Count me in for an order of at least two if you make them.
83  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: BITMAIN Antminer S3 support and OverClocking thread on: July 30, 2014, 12:15:52 AM
I got my two ant miner S3's yesterday.  Batch 3.  They run ok, a little sporadically from high 300's to 450 Ghs.  Both stock clocks.

How do I tell what version of the firmware I have?  I've looked everywhere in the antminer control panel; must be missing something, but the current version on Bitmain's site is antMiner_S320140721.bin.  Is there an easy way to see if I already have that or should upgrade.  (I would like to get rid of the sporadic beeps every ten minutes or so!)

Thanks!

I'm not sure how to tell what firmware you have, but I'd go ahead with the upgrade anyway. I upgraded to the 721 firmware and I haven't heard a beep from the thing since.
84  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: BITMAIN Antminer S3 support and OverClocking thread on: July 29, 2014, 11:38:08 PM
Sooooo if my B1 S3 runs for an hour without getting any x's on the chip status at 250mhz

With a 502gh Poolside hashrate, drawing 425 watts at the wall from a bronze psu - did I just like hit the lottery of units or something? Or do I need to keep an eye on this thing before I declare it stable.

Also does OCing really void the warranty? does it like set a flag bit somewhere?
85  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: btcgarden-AM-v1 only $0.85/GHs 1.045w/GHs. In stock for international selling! on: July 26, 2014, 12:20:02 AM
Got 2 BTC AM-V2 1.2TH units on order from Minersource - looking forward to checking them out.

Units are coming with Dell 750W PSUs

Anyone using these? Wondering how "loud" they will be - units are going in basement directly below my bed in master bed room -- unfinished basement -- no insulation to drown out the sound - not wanting the wife complaining about noise....

I mean, it's not a lawnmower.

I doubt you'll hear it through the floor. Think "server room", that level of noise.

How quiet are these things really?

I'd say two of them are about as loud as an unmodded gridseed.
You can also just replace the fans with silent 140mm fans and then it's quiet as a dead churchmouse. That's what I did.

Ordered an S3 from you last night - you're one of the few resellers who has them in stock!

You ship within 24hrs still right? I'm hoping the unit is delivered Saturday so I can actually sign for it.

Thanks man.
88  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: HOW TO: Submit Public comment to NYDFS on BITLICENSE. regulation affects us all on: July 24, 2014, 06:56:36 PM
Look at it this way - if there's a legal challenge to the regulations, whether or not they weighed public comments could be important.

I hope there is indeed a legal challenge.

The point is, the system affords us the chance to comment and it's important we do whether or not the system works or respects those comments.

If further action is required, it's key that we have exhausted previous options.

at 350mhz this unit is hashing at 700GH/sec!

power consumption at XFX 850 Core Bronze+ (not modular, cheap one)

only 780W

nice Smiley

Damn, 1.111w/gh not bad.
What's the poolside hashrate like? I'm worried about the error rate of these chips, especially since there's not an easy way to see it.

Also how's the heat output of the unit? Heat sinks still staying reasonable?

I'm also curious to know how he managed such extreme OC. (Maybe ignoring HW errors?)

I tried 330mhz but HW errors brought the hashrate down to ~280ghs. 320mhz seems to be the sweet spot for my machine giving me an additional 5-10gh without additional HW errors. (only tested 310,320,330).

With regard to overclocking: I noticed that in the /home/pi/Garden directory there's a familiar looking "miner.php" file.

So, I copied that over to /var/www/ and chmod'd it 755 and what do you know: your.miner.ip/miner.php serves up the familiar no-frills cgminer web display. This is nice as you can do instant pool switching and also monitor the hardware error rate. I was getting 8% at 310clock with 623GH/s over a 24 hour period - I'm testing 320 now.

It's worth noting that ducking down to 310 I didn't see a real aggregate change in the poolside hashrate so I'm thinking any additional speed is eaten up by errors. Nonetheless, these additional stats will help me maybe tweak some more of the command line parameters.

eleuthria .. instead of shutting down the pool can you just ban people from new york from using the pool if the regulations in new york pass ?? it's new york! the place that wants to tell everyone how big a soda they can drink and tell everyone they cannot have more than one weeks worth of food and supplies stored or be considered a home grown terrorist. maybe banning them from bitcoin pools will help people realize that new york is not a good place to live nor start a bitcoin business.

You can disagree with state legislation without insulting the entire state there, guy.

New York City happens to be the finest place I have ever lived and worked.

And yes, bloomberg's attempted soda ban was stupid.

Correct, I'm using the four pin plugs and the +/- between the 6 pin and 4 pin plugs is reversed!! thats how I did it.

Also for the record, as I'm using 4 pin plugs on my btcgarden I can confirm that two wires carrying the current seems to be ok... so long as they are 16awg or better.

Also, I'm using two £20 LED 400w power supplies that I found on ebay... here are the ones I use.  They read 12.25v with no load and amazingly 12.25v when the miner is running!!!! great value!

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161081134308?var=460221403257&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

HTH

I mean I've heard it takes over 30A to melt 16awg cable that's only a foot or so long. So theoretically these could run on one cable a piece but for the love of god nobody try that.

Also with regard to that PSU - 78% efficiency? That's got to be at least 120 extra watts you're pulling. Don't know what you pay for electricity but I've learned that a top-shelf PSU is key these days.

93  Bitcoin / Legal / HOW TO: Submit Public comment to NYDFS on BITLICENSE. regulation affects us all on: July 24, 2014, 01:32:50 AM
I made a crappy infographic:

The proposed rules are on page 14 of this PDF along with the email address for submitting comment to:

http://docs.dos.ny.gov/info/register/2014/july23/pdf/rulemaking.pdf

And the instructions which state that literally you're just supposed to send a damn email are here:

http://www.dos.ny.gov/info/register/instruct.htm

Suggestions for comments:

  • The regulations are far too broad.
  • They would require anyone who wishes to even buy BTC with USD to have a license.
  • They would require anyone who even casually mines any crypto to have a license with burdonsome requirements.
  • They would cause the largest US based pool to shut down and the owner of BTCguild has stated.
  • They should maybe be scrapped altogether.
  • US law already has requirements for BTC exchanges so these are just redundant and burdonsome.

But whatever - do your own reading, make your own comments, but please don't just flame the email address and prevent real comments from getting through.
94  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: PBmining - legit? on: July 23, 2014, 07:53:38 PM
Is there any proof of that they are mining at all?

Now there are no proof. They aren't giving a pic of their miners, not going the pool they mine(if they're) and I couldn't see a block if they are using their own pool. So I came to a conclusion : "It is definitely a ponzi scheme"
Kindly,
        MZ

Sigh. No. "It is possibly a ponzi scheme" would be a correct statement.
"Definitely" requires that there's no possibility of it being legitimate, and also that there's no possibility that it's some OTHER type of scheme. Both of which are also possible.

some Contracts have ROI'd for me and that's all I care about; but feel free to invest your money in the manner you wish. I'm only saying that it's still not a clear cut conclusion.

Hi

is there a way to login to minera GUI as a read only user, so that I can share the GUI without the possibility of the viewer to mess things up.

I know there was a post before about this some 30+ pages back.
would be great if there was a possibility of declaring parts of the GUI to be shown.

have a nice day to all of you Cheesy

No, but that's a feature I'd like to add in next releases.

---------

If you wanna know how much people are using Minera, here are the first stats I got:

active systems: 152
active devices: 992
last total hashrate: 91.04GH/s
miners:
cgdmaxlzeus: 17
cpuminer: 112
bfgminer: 14
unknown: 6
cgminer: 3

Soon you will be able to see them at http://getminera.com

Add 1 to the CPU miner tally  Grin

I'm running 0.2.x still because for whatever reason 0.3.2 gave me an incredibly high error rate and autotune lowers the frequency down to very low speeds.

yes 7-05 me too I want to try the new one

I wouldn't. Allegedly overclocking is not possible in the new firmware

See the quoted post from a different thread below:

Looks like anything above 310 is disabled with the newest RPI image (07-19). Does anyone have a copy of the older image they could host?

you need to edit also index.php and cgminer_update.php

anyway I am running mine at 340 very stable and happy Wink so far..

Which firmware are you running? I'm still running 7-05 and I get by with just editing the sh

OC section will be up soon.

Interested to see how they do... not exactly a lot of extra cooling comes installed out of the box.
I suggest not to OC for now, but will continue to make the OC section, since OC is very unstable right now. And as bobsag said, heat is an issue.

Bobsag and I have reported good luck overclocking to 320 and 330 (the default is 310) by simply editing the run.sh file.

Seems stable, cooling air output is still only warm so cooling doesn't seem to be an issue (bear in mind that I have upgraded the fans, though focused on noise not flow).

How exactly do you overclock these?

I am guessing it's not "chip_select_delay" from the webui?

"--btcg-clks 310:3000" in /var/www/run.sh

change the "310" to desired clock speed, stop cgminer in web interface then restart it.
