A large-scale event under the name Blockchain & Bitcoin Conference Malta has concluded In St. Julian's.

This year, it gathered the representatives of a huge number of the top blockchain projects and crypto funds and venture investors.

The Arcona co-founder Daniel Girdea represented the project and managed to participate in two-panel discussions as an expert.

He spoke about the prospects the blockchain technology opens up today for the development of the augmented reality technology and the Internet of things growth.

“It was really interesting and useful to take part in these events”, he says. “This time we mostly discussed the use of blockchain in non-financial sectors of the economy, such as tourism, real estate, entertainment, and education.

These fields are those at which we actually aim creating our ecosystem, as the Arcona Digital Land is the space where the companies from different sectors can develop their projects. I had an opportunity to discuss the prospects of technological and ideological integration with the representatives of several blockchain-based companies.

One of them, by the way, organizes gourmet tours around the world. In my opinion, this is the most exciting and enjoyable type of tourism. I hope we will find a way to cooperate and launch some joint projects for our users”.

Today, the Arcona team has presented all the advantages of the ecosystem and the prospects of Arcona development to the leading Finnish experts on the international investment and business strategies – in the framework of pitch-session taking place in Helsinki center in Saint Petersburg.

Finland is known as one of the leaders in the field of computer game industry. The turnover of this market in Finland has already exceeded €2.5 billion per year and continues to grow.

In this pitch session, dozens of startups have participated, highlighted by the experts of the business development of Helsinki center. Vladimir Chepurnoy (Helsinki Center), Timo Helenius and Lauri Määttänen (NewCo Helsinki) were on the jury.

💪 The development of proprietary AR Viewer is in high gear. All the parts of the future application opening the doors to the new magical world of Arcona are ready to get tested together. Our engineers have started the process of assembling.

In parallel, we have begun working on the Viewer appearance, its user logics and interface. This work is being carried out by ourselves as there is a strong team of professional designers headed by Arcona's art director Yana Savinykh. Yana is a talented artist having worked for Piligrim XXI, a technology company behind the Arcona project, for years. The scenes of virtual content placed in the 10 largest cities and the whole visualization of Arcona is all her doing.

💬 "Working on the augmented reality parks with the Piligrim team was very fascinating and developing, as there were plenty of objects nearly impossible to be visually reconstructed due to insufficient information on the way they used to look”, she says.

💬 “Sometimes we could only base on oral explanations and painted some buildings leveraging our knowledge of architecture, history, art and sense of beauty. It was difficult but very exciting. Now we are happy to apply the skills we had acquired in day to day mixing of real image and animation. We worked a lot to make this fantasy world of Arcona look real and authentic. Now we are seeking to endow the Viewer of our ecosystem with these features”.

The Romanian technology company Holosee has become a new partner of Arcona in the Digital Land development.

The Holosee team works on stunning realistic holograms of high definition for the AR/VR industry.

Arcona's developers have ported customized SLAM algorithms to iOS platform

The Arcona developers have reached another important technological milestone on having ported customized SLAM algorithms to iOS platform. Trial testing on iPads and iPhones was successful!

SLAM is one of the main blocks of the Arcona Core library - it allows to determine a position of a device in space just by analyzing camera images.

Since the input data cannot be of the same quality all over the globe and needs to be simultaneously handling not only point and line features but also the planes in situations with a small number of points and lines.

Our engineers put a lot of effort to make the algorithms work even with not very powerful CPU's and also with low quality, noisy images.

SLAM featuring is one of the main focuses of the developers’ team at the moment, as it gives a user a really immersive and authentic AR experience. All the AR giants like Apple, Google, Microsoft and Magic Leap rely on this sophisticated technology. Arcona has successfully entered this club! 😉

The distinctive feature of our implementation is that it works even on quite old models, like iPad Air in this video (the model was released in 2013).

Since one of our main goals is to make the Digital World as accessible as possible, so we try to support a wide range of devices, not just the top ones.

Our next updates will be about how SLAM helps us with AR content positioning and the way we integrate it with other parts of our ecosystem, like GIS.
