81  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: SAFE Network Alpha Release! on: August 12, 2016, 04:32:13 PM
The point of considering what SAFE is now as Alpha, is consider what is will become.. and that is beyond altcoin.

So, MaidSafeCoin (MAID) is an altcoin at the moment but that's just until SAFE Network is beyond Beta, then there will be a 1:1 conversion to Safecoin within the network.

The point about Data chains, is a larger one.. but that's for later.

by the way.. don't mistake SAFE for an altcoin!

In case you're behind this curve, consider this: Data chains: what? why? how?

SAFE Network Alpha Release!

TechCruch: After a decade of R&D, MaidSafe’s decentralized network opens for alpha testing
> Not many startups have spent a decade fine-tuning their tech platform prior to launch. But not many startups are trying to radically rethink the structure of the Internet.
...
> The aim for the alpha is to see how the network operates, garner feedback and grow its community of developers — to fuel the necessary app ecosystem to drive adoption of the real-deal down the line (an API is slated as launching this week).
> MaidSafe’s ambition for the Safe network, as it will be called (aka ‘Secure Access For Everyone’), is for it to be useable by as wide a user-base as possible

84  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [FIXED] Speculate! Which altcoin from the Top 15 will reach parity with BTC? on: May 27, 2015, 08:35:41 PM
MaidsafeCoin will become Safecoin when they move through beta and that could match BTC marketcap, even if it achieve a fraction of its ambition.. different number of total coins though for parity. If it then does away with the need for blockchains and can host Ethereum and DAPS work.. well, one thing at a time.

Ripple could blip for a short while but its model is a single saving over western union, so it will lose in the log run.. or more specifically any investor other than Ripple Inc who put money into that.

I know nothing of Monero.. but 'untraceable' in it's front page suggests niche like darkcoin etc and then will be no match for Safecoin as cash. Safecoin isn't looking to replace Bitcoin's ledger but might host blockchains without the worry of bloat.

BitShares is well places as PoS if there is a problem with PoW; I'd not suggest Peercoin because they always appeared weak on number of devs to ever be without risk.

NXT is too amateurish and the others are wannabes.. not that they won't stick around if BTC remains solid.
85  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GEMZ]| SOCIAL MESSAGING APP THAT PAYS | AirDrop Beta is Live | on: April 27, 2015, 06:47:15 PM
Personally speaking I found the ability to take a photo of the password phrase essential.

Obviously, that's all very well but you have to see it. If all that is presented is a username and pin, then some users will interpret that as I did, to suggest that the wallet is on the phone and accessible with pin. I had in mind to backup the wallet; I did not have in mind that I would not be able to access it again.

Is this the best place for posting bugs?
86  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GEMZ]| SOCIAL MESSAGING APP THAT PAYS | AirDrop Beta is Live | on: April 27, 2015, 02:45:33 PM
Is this thread the de facto place for all feedback?..

BUG: Passphrase not declared at wallet creation!

Having created a wallet on a tablet; associated a phone number; put a photo to it; etc, I come back and it's asking for a passphrase made during initial signup!

I'm no noob and saw no passphrase and now appear to be locked out!.. All I did see was a choice of username and pin number, which did surprise me but it went into the wallet, so that I could use it in a basic way. So, I've just created another test username and see that the passphrase is hidden in the settings!.. and unusually we cannot logout and secure the wallet, without typing that passphrase in, at which point you discover it behind the pin number.

What happens to a user that does not logout and then know their passphrase and needs to log back in again???

I wonder that new wallets NEED to make the passphrase known to the user.. fiddly as that maybe on a phone. There's something wrong that a user can plough through and not have that passphrase made safe. Fortunately, I didn't put any money to that wallet although some referrals might fall that way.

I'll ask what I expect will become a FAQ: Is there an option still to recover that wallet with my name, given that I only know the pin?.. or is there an option for the server to forget that username (davidpbrown) exists and I recreate it?.. Perhaps not important but I can see this annoying a lot of people who might do the same and also put their bought GEMZ to it. Also, I notice that new usernames I create seem to adopt the phone number and photo, phonenumber I understand, profile photo I wouldn't expect.

I'd suggest, if users have not see their passphrase, that they look for it in settings and make a note of it!!! Sad
87  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GEMZ]| SOCIAL MESSAGING APP THAT PAYS | AirDrop Beta is Live | on: April 27, 2015, 09:25:51 AM
Yes.. the bigger point was ensuring the content is visible via a simple url.. and that is well advertised to new users. Otherwise, why would a new user without contact post anything. Relying on those who know others already willing to kickstart the user base might cut potential users to 10% of what might be. If content is visible then people can post and make reference elsewhere and draw people in, making it familiar to other potential users. Seeing it from the inside is more a draw than from the outside.
88  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GEMZ]| SOCIAL MESSAGING APP THAT PAYS | AirDrop Beta is Live | on: April 27, 2015, 09:08:01 AM
Has thought been given to how useful GetGemz is for a single user?.. It's important that the network is well seeded and if it can be useful without having a substantial network, perhaps that will help bed it down. I wonder, is content visible to public - is there a direct url to each users content? Promoting the most active channels might help create excitement. If GetGemz is a magnet for users who do not already know other users, that might help engage a user base who does find everyone there.

Other quick impressions, some of the app looks great but customisable colours and backgrounds will be a big plus.. pink isn't to everyones taste and in the absence of content flowing it might keep a new user busy and help them have something invested.

Also, perhaps consider what QQ's tencent http://t.qq.com/ does to engage new users, with rewards for activity - badges and bonus features for creating activity. It's frustrating at first to have to get points in order to not just use from the default selection of backgrounds but if you get the points system right, it can give a sense of achievement.. GetPointz for playing the game.. and of course perhaps in GetGemz, points mean prizes (Gemz). Cheesy

Perhaps also suggest other users to connect to. Find community celebrities that everyone can follow.

90  Other / Meta / Re: Welcome back BitcoinTalk on: January 25, 2015, 03:40:56 PM
meh.. BitcoinTalk seems a long way removed from what it used to be. Far too much trash in /Altcoin Discussion/. It's a sad reflection on blockchain technology that there isn't more serious and intellectually honest discussion here - perhaps it reflects this board's mods being so against anything not BTC but it's shortsighted to not consider the other utility beyond currency. It seems sensible comments are crowded out by selfish fly-by-night pump and dump interests. Roll Eyes
91  Economy / Speculation / Re: Are we going to see bitcoin below 100 soon? on: January 14, 2015, 11:50:02 PM
Hell yeah... Its coming real soon...I sold all mine.. waiting to rebuy at $85

You must be young, expecting to react fast enough to catch it before it's out of reach again. If there is a rebound, it's likely to be strong.
92  Economy / Speculation / Re: Are we going to see bitcoin below 100 soon? on: January 14, 2015, 11:11:29 PM
I don't think bitcoin will drop under 100, the bottom was 160 and that's it.

It can happen bro. Maybe bitcoin decrease under 100$ or less.

But we hope bitcoin can up again as last year

Activity: 0

All the noobs weighing in.

<conspiracy hat on/> Perhaps we have rattled ye old banksters and they understand what Bitcoin can do for real justice.
93  Economy / Speculation / Re: Are we going to see bitcoin below 100 soon? on: January 14, 2015, 11:07:06 PM
The fundamentals are the same as ever. I'm mostly outside of BTC in Bitcoin2.0 interests atm but I still value it.

What's caused this drop? Merchants doing what they should at this point; PoW causing minor stress; taxes due; ponzis; small hacks?

All seems a little over done.. noob panic perhaps?? I remember when watching BTC price was fun.
94  Economy / Speculation / Re: This is why bitcoin is crashing on: January 14, 2015, 11:46:11 AM
Not a newb, but I haven't got any tulips Smiley

Saying shit doesn't make it true.

The analogy isn't new and it isn't valid.
95  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Users of Bitcoin Core on Linux must not upgrade to the latest version of OpenSSL on: January 14, 2015, 09:11:35 AM
For Linux users not on Ubuntu could we get https://bitcoin.org/en/download updated with the .tgz and/or some suggestion of which repository can be trusted.. and perhaps have the News alert on this site updated with a pointer to downloads, as that was always useful.
96  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The BitShares Decentralized Exchange has more than 70k USD 24H volume! on: January 13, 2015, 07:33:00 PM
I still remember when it was fun watching the BTC price. Ah well.. I guess in this space it might be a case of change by moving to another option like BitShares rather than simply one coin evolving.

I guess it might be a good sign for Bitcoin, if people are spending via merchants.  Undecided
97  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The BitShares Decentralized Exchange has more than 70k USD 24H volume! on: January 13, 2015, 06:41:51 PM
It is one place to shelter from the drop in altcoins.

Who's spending all their coins.. did everyone jump and get an Xbox subscription!?
98  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: More BitShares greed. on: January 03, 2015, 09:54:22 PM
funny strange.
99  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: More BitShares greed. on: January 03, 2015, 09:32:22 PM
@Newmine

Given that you spend so much time faffing around on BitShares forum, it's a wonder that you can talk so confused. More likely you are just being deliberately disingenuous.. a lite NXT troll perhaps but you are in your own way doing BitShares a favour because for all your trying, anyone worthwhile will see straight through it and recognise that BitShares is stronger than NXT; PPC and other weaker offerings.

You should retitle the thread as Newmine's greed.
100  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: More BitShares greed. on: January 03, 2015, 08:43:35 PM
Pretty sure I stated in the OP that it's a proposal. Trying reading it through.

And yes, my .78 posts per day for over year constitutes as "nonconstructive stuff all day".

I merely point out the things you can't see as you are drowning in the Bitshares grape Koolaid.

How stupid are you?

What you suggested is obvious enough:
.. the BitShares Dev's are proposing a hard code in the client that will

Blatantly misleading.. what Koolaid are you drinking!?.. you might want to look more closely.
