81  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XC][OFFICIAL] PoS/Privacy on: July 17, 2014, 02:34:27 AM
HI, as you can see this is my first post on this thread and i would like to know if any of you can help me. i am trying to download the xc wallet to my computer but it seem very complicated ( im not tech savvy ) when i go to the website and try to download it all i see is this :

[PARENTDIR]   Parent Directory        -
[   ]   XCurrency-qt.exe   2014-07-16 13:17   7.1M
[   ]   XCv0.9.2.44XCurrency-2.44.zip   2014-07-16 11:51   9.1M    and i really don't know what to do with this information? can anyone help me please?

Download the zip file, create this directory 'c:/program files/xcurrency' (create xcurrency folder in your applications folder, if mac), unpack the zip file into that directory.  Run the xcurrency-qt.exe.   That should be it!    You can have a wallet address after that, and off you go!

In other news:

Wait.... is that TODAY'S date on the new wallet exe?!?!?!    Something new perhaps?!?!?!

Some topics we can discuss;

- XCurrency giftcards (scratch for after launch)
- our own api system (if this still is not in The works)
- getting a trollboxes team together
- anti-FUD campagne
- give feedback on USP's (Unique selling points)

So on the API, I'd definitely like to take a look at it as it pertains to messaging.  I'm interested in how to plug in real applications to this.  I'm definitely interested in creating a messaging platform and applying that in the real world (through apps, email, etc...) with message destruction and timeouts, etc...

Allright, enough of the CJk'ing - lemme at that msg'ing API... I wanna build something sick!

When is the price expected to go up again? Just a rough estimate?

Is this a serious question?  Roll Eyes

It is a valid question. This price decline gives me bad vibes, just like it did with all other scam-coins that I bought. Always huge road-maps with large expectations, price boost then just decline to nothing. I would want much more updates from devs and what they are doing, they can't work in silent, then people won't believe that they are working, even if they delivered before. Because to gain trust they have to deliver in the beginning, and then they will sell premine etc etc. So start to give us the updates we deserve, and show that this is not just another scam-coin.

It will go up July 29th at 12:34 UTC, then more August 2nd at 08:00 UTC.

In response to the attack that was carried out today on navajocoin.

While I am still reviewing the limited amount of information, based on my review of both the code and the available data, the attack was successful partly due to the 30 second block time.

XC use's a 90 second block time.

I am reviewing the additional variables & Proof of Stake code involved in this attacked for any potential issues

2nd

The current REV2 test-release will be updated, additional data collected and then the final rev2 will be released

Dan

Thanks Dan!

I notice someone launched a double spend attack on NAV. I don't want to be alarmist , but just want to check if that is possible with all POS coins?
Might as well clear it up and move on.

Please let me know if this is not appropriate and I'll delete it   Smiley

I join to the question.

As I predict by intuition (may be wrong), in PoS coin, 51% atack is still available, but one have to possess 51% of coins, not hash power.
So, if total PoS coin's volume has a tendency to be accumulated in few hands, 51% attack is even more dangerous, than for PoW coins,
because PoW requires real money to buy mining equipment. PoS coins do not, just exchange speculations.

Also I heard, 51% PoS holder may do 'stealth' fork, without entire blockchain corruption, and may 'stick' all other holders to his forked blockchain by hidden way.

Correct me, please, and explain, how things are going in XC.

This is a good question to bring up.  Are we protected against this style of attack?

What do you mean, protected?  I thought this was a Mintpal issue, not an issue with VRC?

All POS coins are at risk of a staking attack for those that hold 30%+ of the network weight, IIRC. As it relates to VRC, Mintpal was the issue that allowed a hacker to inject withdrawal code into their servers in which they obtained a large percentage of the outstanding VRC that happened to have been sitting in a hotwallet on their servers.

This isn't the VRC/Mintpal issue... this is a NEW thing!!   (never a dull moment in crypto world.).

Navajo coin was the subject of an attack of a new (now known) POS exploit.  Bittrex was the exchange.  Cloak coin hard forked to protect against it (I thinks).

seems I cant unlock my wallet. says password is incorrect... so when I entered it (twice) i must have got it wrong both times! wtf Sad

This wouldnt be because I updated to the latest wallet would it?

thankfully i was only testing it with 1XC!

Still, Its made me even more worried to transfer the rest from mintpal.

so, do I delete all files including wallet.dat etc and start again?

keep your old wallet.dat, backup ur wallets. your mostly inserting wrong code urself, ive never had a wrong password with any locked wallet whatsoever

yeah i must have just made a mistake. It was the weekend and I'd had a few beers. ive backed up my wallet anyway even though theres only 1 xc in it. but reading the guide...

"Important: Note that the wallet.dat file is encrypted, so if you lose your password then you will not be able to access it on any computer."

...so its gone anyway basically yeah?

Like I say, its only 1 xc so im not really fussed.

Great... We're going to have to update the coin count on coinmarketcap.com now: minus 1.  Smiley

maybe Dan can rewrite the coin's algorithm to account for the misssing coin.......

hardfork.

what Vericoin is doing should create an outrage in crypto world. they sabotage cryptocurrency as a whole.

I think they made the right decision given the circumstances. Any further discussion should be in their thread so as not to derail the XC thread.

I have to disagree with you. This veri/mintpal discussion belongs on every serious altcoin thread. XC can be hacked just as easily on mintpal, 19% of total xc supply is on mintpal right now. What veri does may set a precedent for future coin attacks.

I don't believe this in any way derails the xc conversation.

How do you know 19% of total XC supply is on Mintpal now?

give or take, it's not completely accurate

I agree with Abrupto - what would have happened if this were XC?  Would Dan have agreed to fork?  I hope he wouldn't, but currently I'm not in the position to have the perspective of the devs and holders of Vericoin.

Is XC headed to the Bitcoin Conference in Chicago in any official capacity?

Guys... rule 1 and rule 12...

Quote
1. Be good to each other
2. Be gracious to "enemies"
3. Completely ignore spam, FUD, and abusive comments
4. If you respond to anything with the above in it, erase the offending remarks from your reply before posting, because leaving it in will allow it to incite further offense. (Also Teka might delete your post.)
5. Don't ever spread FUD elsewhere. Respect other projects. XC doesn't need to compete with them; it's strong enough on its own.
6. Be patient with newbies. There'll be a lot of them arriving as XC grows.
7. The way you treat people makes up 95% of what's relevant in a post; the information supplied is 5%.
8. The way XC appears to the world depends on the way you are to other people.
9. Be aware of the difference between what you perceive and what you infer from your perceptions (e.g. statements vs. the intentions suggested by statements).
10. You devalue yourself by being aggressive/insulting/etc.
11. If we don't treat opponents well, then we just take on their mode of interacting instead of imparting our mode of interacting.
12. So be good to each other.

Oh and this gem...  Clearly Shia LeBeouf's (sp?) best work yet.

Why is that funny?

I have 267 XC atm, it isn't much, but it is all I could afford.
He, i know people that are sure you can buy a great car with that amount 6 months from now. Wait some more while you think about what you could do with 267 BTC you stored in 2011. There are not so many coins going around & this is a POS coin Smiley

I didn't even know about Bitcoins in 2011, I heard of them first in 2013 :/.

Anyway, I hope that XC will be worth a lot in the times to come and I wish you all best of luck saving as much as possible.

we wish as luck as well

In the meantime, only good news to come, w8ing for EM release, mac users got anon wallet, we got UI anon wallet, yet volume is low and price small decline. So everything normal in XC land!

Wait, what?

There's an updated mac wallet? Got a link so I don't have to search through the pages? I've been waiting for it for what seems like foreverrrrr.  Shocked

I just love the fact that community looks worried about XC mainstream promotion and adoption, when other alts worry about "where is dev", or "how much premine" and stuff like that. Such a great break from altshit-scene

'Dude, where is our Dev?' I'll pay $50 for a ticket.

hey, i'm in, buy one for me  Cheesy
our dev's still in wonderland having fun, so do i
lame old question... Cheesy

Oh, there will be a movie about the Alt coin scene eventually... I'd stake my whole bag on it.

Exactly, just whale games trying to scare out the weak hands..... Expect a sharp rebound soon..

^^This.

It blows my mind that people still fall for the old shakeout.

Picked up some more sub 160.  Woot!

It did not work I went to http://www.canyouseeme.org/ but it gave me an error

Error: I could not see your service on <IP Adress> on port (32348)

Reason: Connection timed out

192.168.0.1
192.168.1.1

router!

what's that? Explain as I never done something like that.. im checking for a software to download to open the ports of the router as well I have found Port forrward network utilities 2.0.1 is that safe to download? any suggestion? until now I just plugged the ethernet to the router I never installed it

Not easy to explain or assist in the config from the outside. If you have never done something like this before maybe it's better to wait for the version you do not need to change this config or risk setting your computer wide open.
ATC did say:
In order for the private mode to work with this release, you must have have UNPNP enabled on your router OR have the port mapped correctly inbound -- this will be resolved in a future release

Yea I think that is the best solution I will wait for next release and do my research in the mean time as suck big time to do not know those stuffs that I think are pretty basic..

Hey Cryptico... most routers have a mini web server on them to allow you to config them.  The ip address they listed is a common one and you can pop that into your browser and should get a login page at one or the other ip addresses.  Some routers have .10 at the end of them (192.168.1.10)... just all depends on your setup.  put (http://192.168.1.1/) into your browser... might have to try the last number or .0.x.  You'll know you're are at the right place if there is a login and display for the router brand.

Now the login... This is usually printed on the router itself and should have something like 'admin'  as the user and something crazy for the password.  Some routers just leave a default 'admin' 'admin' for user and pass.    If you can find your router type and don't have a printed password on it, google search for the default user/pass for that router.  If you've never changed it, it'll still be that.

Once you get past the login, you should see somewhere (every router interface is different), enable UPnP radio box.  If you can't find it, post a screen grab and we should be able to post you in the correct direction.

Is the anon messaging beta still being released end of the week? And will it be a separate wallet or will it run with Rev2 beta wallet?

AFAIK anon messaging beta still being released at the end of this week (not business week M-F but a full week M-Sun), so this could be Sunday before we see it... could be after then... "beta".

From what someone has said before on it, it uses the broadcast system, and not the blockchain, so might be a standalone app, but XC holders, I'm sure, would appreciate some form of required XC balance to use their system, even if negligible.

Currently  each wallet can function as trustless mixer but it has to have 550xc in it. This requirement might change as we do more testing.
As Xnodes need to run any command?

Shouldn't need to do anything on the latest wallet (0.9.2.3).

will it change to require more coins?

Probably less to increase the number of nodes and assuming value increases... maybe more to reward 'early adopters'... I dunno...

I've added nothing to this conversation. Embarrassed
