81  Economy / Economics / Re: Is Argentina the cyprus of 2014? on: August 12, 2014, 07:00:20 AM
Argentina could print pesos to buy dollars to pay back their debts. As they sell more pesos, the value of each peso would decrease so the more they print the less dollars they can buy on a per peso basis.

No country has managed to mint its way out of a crisis.

May be they shoud try with cryptocurrencies. Cheesy

Good one. Just need to mint something to convince other it is better than bitcoin.

Instant profit.

82  Economy / Economics / Re: How profitable are exchanges? on: August 11, 2014, 06:43:11 AM
Altcoin exchanges are very very profitable for the people running it, because after 4-8 months, they get "hacked" and shut down. No questions asked :p
I don't think this so much has to do with the profitability of the exchanges but rather the amount of coins stored on these types of exchanges. I think a lot of people like to trade altcoins in a "day trading" fashion and as a result keep their coins on the exchanges. This results there being more coins on the exchange then there really should be.

Still, even if only a 1/3 or so of the coins normally stored on an exchange would be there, they still would be "hacked" and it would still be profitable enough for those guys to run the "Long-cons".

Do you think the altcoin exchanges failing is merely the operators running away with the coins? I would doubt this as the exchange itself would likely have some level of value and could likely be sold for amounts greater then what would be stolen (less what it would take to disassociate the stolen coins - the mixer fees).

Yes, because most exchanges that get "hacked" are experiencing falling levels of trading activity right before.

Conspiracy: Mintpal was hacked, they got the BTC + were able to sell it and the buyer covered the losses. Nice job, eh? ^^

Poloniex was hacked and I believe everyone was paid back in full later.

Game of Thrones but unforunately we have to wait for the next season.
The Continuum, I really like this show but same problem as stated above.

Not bad. I will try The Continuum and see how good it is.
84  Economy / Economics / Re: Quantitative Easing on: August 10, 2014, 01:35:40 AM
QE as at today is the only measure curtailing inflation to a large extent not only in America but the world at large.

Que? QE is 'designed' to create inflation. It is a measure to stop deflation.
I think the actual goal of QE was to stimulate the economy by getting people and institutions to take more risk with their money. Higher inflation (or lower deflation) was merely a byproduct of QE.

Lending money to companies that went bust is not encourage them to take more risk. It is a way to inflate their debt away at everyone else expense.

It is both. Bailout and encouraging reckless behavior and eventually end up with even more bailouts.

85  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is there a better option than coinbase? on: August 10, 2014, 01:32:41 AM
Use localbitcoin if you don't want to wait for bank verification.

localbitcoin is good for small volume trade, not large volume. And the prices offered are not good comparing with bitstamp/bitfinex/btc-e

You will run into different kind of problems when doing large volume.

Your bank will do a check and might file a suspicious activity report on you.

87  Economy / Economics / Re: Illegal use of Bitcoin affecting its value? on: August 07, 2014, 07:47:07 PM
Right that since transacting in BTC is anonymous, it can be used by the bad guys on its maximum.  Tongue

Well, it's considered to be *pretty* anonymous. Given some work, and enough people, it's still quite possible to trace a transaction back (even if you use multiple addresses). Blockchain sleuthing is something one of my friend likes to do in his spare time, actually o_o

It is very easy for NSA and FBI to find out your identity if you do doggy thing with bitcoin.

But would it be worth the effort involved?
Even after Silk Road has been shut down, is the FBI going after individuals who purchased small quantities of pot?
No, because it is probably not worth it.

They will want to make an example to discourage drug users from buying illegal substance online.

89  Economy / Speculation / Re: Maybe falllling is right? on: August 06, 2014, 09:13:55 PM
The chances of the price falling is not likely but 'm no saying it is impossible just unlikely.  The big money hasn't even gotten in yet so I won't even bother saying more then that.  As for the Wall Street Investor saying Bitcoin is overvalued..  that is like taking marriage advice from a teenager.  Wall Street is a rigged but they question the of Bitcoin? Give me a break.

Good one.

Wall Street types are only good at one thing, that is selling over price security to the unsuspected investors.
90  Economy / Speculation / Re: Maybe falllling is right? on: August 05, 2014, 07:20:45 PM
$57x Cheesy

You don't get to change your prediction every day just because you fucked up last time faillling, everyone's still waiting for sub550, you're like three weeks late now, stop acting like a $5 drop to 578 is proof you're right. It's not.

Im waiting for new highs when the cold weather hits, maybe you guys will get lucky 1 more time to buy a tiny bit cheaper.

How does weather has anything to do with price?
91  Economy / Economics / Re: 11 countries close to bankruptcy....... on: August 05, 2014, 07:19:07 PM
Big guy can get away with much more than small guy. It is so and it's been so for last few thousands of years.

yes..occasionally it is reversed..French revolution..Oliver Cromwell..chairman Mao but human nature is what it is and will continue to be so for the foreseeable future

French revolution is probably the most brutal event that ever happen to the ruling class for the west.

Other culture (ie China) revolution is more used to having the whole emperor family getting slaughtered by warlords.
92  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: do you think folk from argentina are going to.. on: August 02, 2014, 03:34:39 PM
massively invest in bitcoin to avoid pesos crisis?

Money can't get in and out easily. So even bitcoin is hopeless in this case.
93  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will Bitcoin be around in 5 years? If so, what's its price? on: August 02, 2014, 03:32:29 PM
exponential growth trend line points to ~15 million USD

o.0  Grin

Even if that becomes true, I will cash out long before it reaches 15M and never look back.
94  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will bitcoin ever reach $1000 dollars again? on: August 01, 2014, 03:52:47 PM

97  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Proof of ... systems in mine. on: July 31, 2014, 02:33:50 PM
is it possible for system to change systems? like from PoW to PoS etc..

Depend on the coin developers.

The widely adapted coin can't be change easily as reaching consensus among the users is not easy.
98  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Faucets to avoid on: July 29, 2014, 04:52:30 PM
Faucets are great for learning about bitcoin but they are a complete waste of time when your spending hours on faucets for fractions of $$$.

Would be a lot easier just getting a part time job and spending your wages on btc, just remember to hodl  Cheesy

Most kids these days can't even hold a Mcdonalds job.
99  Economy / Speculation / Re: Shouldn't new Fund GABI aka Global Advisors Bitcoin Investment Fund boost price? on: July 29, 2014, 04:48:40 PM
Don't think they can get in the market so easily with 200M.

Maybe they will invest in alt coin ?
