The most helpful review Tongue:

Your first step is to google “Dogie's Miner Setup Guides” and go from there. Overall, it took about an hour to glean information and setup the first miner, then only about 5 minutes on the next.

It might be Sushi but I'm not sure he sells on Amazon. Either way whoever is listing them on Amazon keeps infringing on my copyright.

As mentioned many times before, if that individual is infringing on your so called copyright, contact Amazon and your local police. Grow up and stop whining like a little child. Most people have stopped purchasing bitmain over priced under supported products and are buying spondoolies offerings. When one in three power supplies catch fire in the s4's, I know what I'd prefer to buy from a safety standpoint.

Instead of sheet metal, you could also use cement sheeting. May even find some metal sheet roofing at your local tip or hardware store.
83  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: UPS backup on an s2 on: December 04, 2014, 09:02:30 PM
My power has been abit erratic lately with quick bursts of outages. My concern that as winter continues to roll in more quick flickers of outages will occur. The s2 doesn't always reboot properly - I think its more a function of the power supply that BitMain used than anything.  In order to keep the s2 alive I would like to install a UPS on it.

Any recommendations on the specific model from say APC ?

apc 3000va on ebay used.

Alternatively, you could always put some caps on the 12v output with a slow charge circuit.

Buy 2 devices, mine solo with the first, mine against a pool with the second.
Not everything is about ROI ...

Excellent. I'd like to buy some SP35s below cost.
Out of curiosity, what's our cost ?

A few people on alibaba.com are selling sp20's below $460 in bulk with warranty.

so somewhere below that.
86  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4 Black Friday Deals 0.409USD/GH/s, FREE International Shipping on: December 04, 2014, 06:11:15 PM
I have some Bitmain coupons:

1. AntMiner C1 Coupon 50 USD x 8

2. AntMiner S3+ Coupon 50 USD x 8

3. AntMiner S4 Coupon 400 USD x 24

Good through December 15th

I'm not sure what they're worth, send me a message if you're interested.

Bitmain will give anyone a coupon if they ask. So they are worthless. Frankly even with the coupons, they are still way overpriced. Look into Phillipma's posts. He is loving his SP20's. Many are starting to sell off their s3's and s4's. Unless they greatly reduce the price... well, people will buy anything with a coupon these days.

I purchased two Antminer S3+ units. They were shipped together. One arrived on time and the other one UPS took on a whirlwind journey of an additional 15,000 miles and a multi city/country tour. I contacted Bitmain support as UPS has delivery guarantees and will refund a mishandled package like this. Bitmain support said they would have their shipping dept contact UPS. UPS gave Bitmain a refund. Now that Bitmain got a refund they stopped responding to my emails. Originally they said they would give me a coupon. What good is a coupon when everyone gets coupons for free anyway? I told them I wanted the UPS refund sent back to me in BTC, the same way I paid them for shipping. After many delaying tactics, they now are simply ignoring me. Way to go Bitmain! You acknowledge the refund was approved and would get by the end of November. So you got the refund why do you ignore me now and refuse to pay me the refund? The refund from UPS is my money, not yours. I hope pressure from this community can help me get the refund I am entitled to. Crap like this is why people get so frustrated. You are eager to take our btc but when there is a problem you skirt the issue or totally ignore it. So disappointed in Bitmain over this issue. Here is the tracking to show the journey. Yes, I did get my miner eventually, but the refund for mishandled package is mine, Bitmain should not be keeping it.

Despite the whirlwind journey, it doesn't look like you were impacted much. I don't think you're going to get a lot of traction from the community when even after your delay, you still got your hardware delivered in less time (or at least the same amount of time) as it takes the rest of the world to get their miners. A 5 day turnaround isn't that bad, especially considering the last two days of that were a weekend, which UPS doesn't always deliver on anyway.

Since the miner wasn't going to be delivered on the 9th, it makes sense it'd take until the 10th to go out for delivery. In fact, I'm honestly shocked that UPS gave a refund for that. I'm going to have to see about contacting UPS about missed delivery estimates. On what day did the first miner arrive?

EDIT: Now that I've looked at a map, I see that Bangkok is really close to Shenzen, so I can see that you would expect deliveries to arrive faster. I still doubt you'll find much sympathy on a 5 day delivery however.
[/quote]
The first miner arrived in two days. UPS left the other one on the plane. The point is not how long it took to get. The point is that at my request Bitmain requested and got a delivery guarantee refund from UPS. The money is mine. Bitmain got the refund but has stopped replying to me and keeping the refund for themselves. I paid for the shipping, I requested they get the refund due to UPS misrouting and the refund belongs to me. Bitmain is being unethical in this regard.

let me get this right.

you ordered miners and paid for shipping.
miners arrived.
you want refund on the shipping.

am i missing something?

UPS has a delivery guarantee. They refund shipping when they screw up. They screwed up. I asked Bitmain to get the refund for me. They got the refund from UPS and kept it. The refund is mine, not theirs. You might have a different opinion but the refund belongs to me.

i have no opinion on it either way, to be fair.
just wondered how you thought you would be entitled to a shipping refund, when the miner did ship to you and you received it.

:/

If he PAID for the shipping and there is a money back guarantee on delivery time, and bitmain received the refund, then the BUYER is entitled to it. I suggest you contact your local governments consumer protection division and file a case. Bitmain have offices here in this country so it will be easy for them to follow this up.
88  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: December 03, 2014, 05:49:12 PM
I think someone needs to learn the difference between 4 Rails and 4 Connectors. Before they melt down a shiny new miner and blame it on the manufacturer.

This is why these manufactures need to be providing power supplies. I've never gotten the point of not providing one. Other than to make it difficult to figure out what the hell you're doing.

They could have an option to sell a power supply as an addon item. However, unless it's a well tested and known brand (if not built in house), you can get fires and potential law suits as we've already seen from bitmaintech.
89  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4 Black Friday Deals 0.409USD/GH/s, FREE International Shipping on: December 03, 2014, 01:08:19 AM
Remember that if you're overclocking you [officially] lose your warranty, and I personally wouldn't go up more than 1 voltage step on the stock PSU.

How long is the warranty? 30 days?

Its not stated on the page but I believe its 90 days.

The minimum warranty is country dependent as defined in their consumer protection laws. eg, U.S 90 days, AU 365 days.

Be very cautious of what is classified as "life-time". Some companies will define it as the expected time the product will be used before being obsolete. ie. by their next model.

Believe what they wanted to say was 16 AWG wire, not 16 amp?

I believe the same.

Don't think so:  10 AWG is generally thought of as 30 amp, 12 AWG as 20 amp, 14 AWG as 15amp, and 16 AWG as 10amp.

Cassey

This is true when dealing with solid single-conductor wires meant for permanent installation in walls and ceilings and whatnot.

However most all wall-to-appliance power cables use multi-strand wire for flexibility, which muddies the water somewhat.  A multi-strand "wire" cannot carry as much current as a solid single-conductor wire of the same gauge can.

With AC that is an incredibly incorrect statement. Google AC skin effect.
Skin effect has nothing to do with 50-60Hz power and is not a significant effect until several kHz.
As for capacity of stranded vs solid, depends on how it us um, gauged (pun intended). AWG when applied to electrical wire is not a hard number, there is a fair bit of tolerance in the unit when applied to stranded wire. Comparing capacity of wires exactly the same diameter in inches or mm and depending on strand thickness (changes fill factor) yes solid technically can carry more current from DC up to several kHz. That is why in many parts of the world and for larger cables the actual equivalent copper cross section of a wire or cable is used for ratings.

With reference to AC which is what we were discussing...
Not sure where you have your degree from, but well, perhaps you need to edit all the books and websites that tell a different, lets call it story ...

92  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer U3: Decentralization continued. Order now, Ship on Nov. 5th on: November 30, 2014, 09:04:58 PM
What would everyone suggest as a good backup power supply to replace the crap one that the Antminer U3 came with? Amazon links if they carry it preferred...

6A one from my rockminer guide.

I really think we are all going to have to switch to ATX computer PSU's with breakout boards for these U3's.
Dogie I bought one of the ones you suggested after my first stock PSU melted. The replacement one you suggested lasted 4 days (at least it didn't melt or catch fire, it just died completely).
I had previously had 3 of those also die while using them for my R-boxes (the 5A version) but I just replaced them as they lasted 2 months before dying on me and I got them cheap ($6 each).

You have to remember, most of the time when someone like dogie suggests an item and it contains a hidden link to Amazon or the like, he has an associate tag embedded and receives commission on EVERYTHING in your shopping cart. Not just that one item. So please don't trust those links. Don't click on them. They force your cart to give him commission for the next 24 hours! Trust anyone else who links. Also cross check ratings of those products with other reputable outlets. newegg, overstock etc. Whilst you may not be able to purchase from them, you can at least trust their rating systems over Amazon.

Anyone know why the fans listed on BitMain's site for the S3+ are 14038 (which should mean 140mm x 38mm) when they're actually 1238 (12cm x 38mm)?

JDH1238B in the pic when they have listed them as you pointed out as 14038's

The 'sale' is actually a very fair price to medium-level and larger buyers.
You can use 1 coupon ($400) per 16-pack. That makes the final price (shipping included) $12,688 - or $397/TH. Thats cheaper than 16 units purchased individually with coupons, particularly considering that the price includes about $2000 discount on shipping costs you would otherwise pay. Thats about 1BTC/TH WITH PSUs DELIVERED.

in contrast, the SP20 deal works out to around $415/TH and does not include power supplies (another $40-70/TH) and do not rack-mount.
noone includes the custom fees in their price - every customer pays different fees depending on country and personal/business use.

IMO, would love to see a 4-pack/$3400 (shipping included) option for the smaller miners.

A much better deal is 15x  SP20
Cyber Monday Special Price: SP20 Mini Farm Batch 1 $10,425.00 +free shipping.
$695 per miner.

You can easily underclock/undervolt SP20 to 0.55w/GH to extend the lifespan and you are still 1200GH/s miner.
You will not be able to do this with Antminer S4, S3 or even C1

SP20 be more expensive, but much longer lifetime for mining.

The most important. If you buy the SP20, then get a new miner, not "2 months tested" miner.

Also you know they aren't going to build an SP20 mining farm, like bitmain already did with their S2's, to compete with their retails sales to us. How long till we see an S4 bitmain farm. Not a "testing farm" that is.
96  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Question - as of Nov 29 2014, what is the BEST miner? on: November 29, 2014, 09:27:41 PM
Completely agree with Raskul.

Spondoolies tech. They are open and transparent in future technologies also. Great support and forthcoming with compensation when deadlines aren't meet (pre-orders).

Bitmain was at one time ahead of them. They brought at the U3 and water cooled C1, which simply was the wrong way to go. Waste of resources allowing the competition to take over. They also employed a frequent poster (Dogie), so take anything he says with a grain of salt.

New tech is due to be announced shortly with sales likely for early next year. Likely to be initially twice as efficient as current tech, pushing to 4 times come mid year. Halfing in 2016 to consider also.
97  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Hello, BACK INTO MINING BABY! on: November 29, 2014, 09:17:28 PM
Well I really liked that one because it says its really easy to configure, and Idk other ones seem kinda complicated (from what I hear)

I also like that it comes with its own power supply, once you buy a power supply the one you linked costs a bit more.

It's the best value for money "today". You can also underclock and prolong it's life when competing with the new tech. Nothing is in it's league "in stock" for power to GH. Cost with specials is now comparable to competition.
98  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: November 29, 2014, 09:13:27 PM
that's the raskul household set for winter  Smiley
http://www.rgspix.com/SP20_004.jpg

Raskul,

You make the SP20 look like a household designer item with that window setting and the flower (There can't be many miners sat next to a wedding pic either)  Grin

What PSU are you using? Just pulled the trigger on a SP20, have a Corsair AX1500i on stand-by.

That corsair will do just fine mate.
I'm using an EVGA 1600 80+ gold and it's got LOADS of headroom, i could probably run 2x SP20 with it underclocked.

i think it fits right in here at home. My SP10's are in a datacentre and i feel no need to send the SP20 there. Maybe in spring next year i will, this thing has totally added warmth to the entire downstairs of my flat Smiley

1.5 SP20s, not 2 though. No 1600W PSU will 24/7 ~2150W.

Dogie he said "underclocked". ie down to somewhere around 746W each.
99  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Announcement: Bitmain launches AntMiner solution, 0.68 J/GH on chip on: November 29, 2014, 09:08:55 PM

So no one is going to comment on the several users having X's in their ASIC status area and having under powered units?

Several users being you, and one other person who fixed his. What exactly do you want people to do about it?

Chinesesavoir and Mindtrip both had X's in their ASIC status area. And when you have those X's your (guaranteed) hashing power drops. And after changing the voltage, which I've already done to 740, the X goes away but eventually comes back. Now with 2 X's for even less hashing power. What if I wanted to sell in the future and as the specifications indicate 10008GH/s and the unit can't even get to that, then I'm pretty much screwed. I'm just wondering how every is getting 1000TH/s with no problems and I have 6 of them struggling to keep above 950GH/s. I guess I'm just expecting more support and attention like I'm use to with other companies I have purchased from.

Are you here as a mascot/cheerleader for Bitmaintech or really here for support purposes?
