...gays and women?

It is amazing to me that the country can be $16,000,000,000,000 in debt, and the big stories of the year are Chick-fil-a and Planned Parenthood.

"Pay no attention to the impending doom, watch these dancing monkeys!"
It's very intentional and people buy into it. Divide and conquer.

I'm hedged financially. An economic screwing of the middle class is going to happen no matter who is elected. I'm going for Obama since I refuse to go back to the 1950s on human/gay/women's rights.

What restrictions will Obama reduce for gays and women?

The moral basis for land ownership and property in general:

Whoever uses the above the most effectively, gets the property. It's how it will always work. It's how a government gets property taxes. It's how a man protects his livestock.

Right and wrong go out the window in the face of the highest power.
84  Economy / Economics / When I hear "people should spend all of their money" instead of saving... on: October 18, 2012, 08:50:40 PM
When I hear a statist, keynesian economist talking about how people from all walks of life shouldn't save their money and how they should spend their paychecks completely, I think of natural disasters, economic collapses or other personal crises and how people will be running towards the government for assistance. Instead of using their own means to recover, they will depend on a higher power to get back up again.

To me, the whole notion of not saving money is very authoritarian. To say people shouldn't prepare and save is like saying every man is the government's bitch and your survival is dependent on their ability to bring you up again. It implies the government can never fail, which is clearly wrong.

Just my 2 cents.

As for the effectiveness of depending on the government when shit happens, that's an entirely different debate that could be discussed here.

My point is hoarding has its purpose: Stored wealth is supposed to be your safety net when times are bad. At the very least, it's mine. I don't think of going on welfare or to the food bank when I lose my job among other things. I think of my own Plan B. I believe you should consider doing the same.

They are trying to get Bitcoin on the cheap. I would consider it a bullish sentiment more than anything.
Proof? Anecdotes? Anything that you base your hypothesis on?
The volume of trades and the consistent profit these guys are making. We aren't dealing with a casual Bitcoin neckbeard here.

I have seen them doing jobs that we can not fill in Maryland without them.  On the Eastern Shore we do not have enough Mexicans to pick the fields.

Maryland is not unique. The same can be said about practically every state.

What are Mexicans doing this job?  If they can "make a living" from it, why can't Americans?  What's different?

M

Americans will not settle for working $7 an hour, in a hot field for 14 hours. If the wage was higher, the business would be unprofitable. Everyone has their price and the price of an American is too high.

It won't be unprofitable if everyone was paying higher wages and raising prices. Food is too cheap in this country, the waste of food is pretty disturbing to be honest (estimated 40% food produced go to waste).

That's not for you to decide.
87  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should we be trying harder to stop the BTC black market? on: October 18, 2012, 01:01:38 AM
Show me the facts brotha, I am a man of science. When it comes to Ayn Randian free market fantasies there are no facts to show, because history and basic economics simply disprove them. There is no science or evidence behind any of it, simply belief, blind faith. Like communism or religion, you guys have to believe and trust in it blindly because it sounds better/simpler than other options you have considered.

Actually, it's quite a hell of a lot more complex. I've found that, with this crap, what might seem obvious doesn't actually work when you think things through logically. But, regardless...
We are both men of business and economics, both with substantial education and understanding of the topic as well, so why don't we discuss this as such? I'll understand whatever terms you throw at me, as I'm sure you will as well.
The free market idea is based on the theory that the power will stay with the customers, not the business owners, and that centralized business power can't exist, not even monopolies, because people will either find a reasonable substitute for whatever is being pushed on them, or businesses will realize that serving their customers is more financially beneficial than extorting them.
You say you like science and evidence. You know evidence in economics is scant at best, and is full of close approximations at most. It's all logical theory. So, please explain to me, using science or logical economic reasoning why you believe a free market society will fail. I would love to discuss this with someone on my level, especially since I'm still convinced that I haven't figured out everything about this.

The problem is, Rassah, that he likely doesn't view Economics as subjective but something that can be fully quantified like chemistry or physics.

Americans do not want to pick fields.  The hourly price has exceeded $10 an hour here.  Higher then that and it gets too expensive to farm.

Mexicans=food security.

There's something wrong with this picture.

M

No, there's nothing wrong at all. Different cultures have different tolerances.
89  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 90 minutes for 1 block... on: October 18, 2012, 12:51:37 AM
90 minutes to send cash, anywhere in the world, without needing a third party? That is amazing!
imagine we get really unlucky and hit a 3 year block  Cheesy
We need to calculate the chances of this. If it did get really long, I am pretty sure people would throw all the computing power in the world at it to get all the built up transaction fees.

I think the question is "should we be trying harder to promote the BTC black market?" And I think the answer to that question is obviously yes. If you're a Bitcoiner and you're STILL buying your weed with fiat cash, you should be ashamed of yourself. It's socially irresponsible and it sends the wrong message to our children. Let's be the change we want to see in the world and set a better example for our young people.

Buy weed illegally from strangers online instead of locally owned and operated, health inspected, non-profit medicinal discrepancies? Doesn't make much sense to me. I do agree that dispensaries should accept BTC, but all in good time. On SR you have no idea if you are buying from violent gangs, war lords, etc.
That's a risk we accept. It is our choice, is it not?

Possibly services, buy and  services, sell subforums would be nice to have.
That would be rather silly since services are just generally offered as somebody's niche becomes valuable.

O!  You must have bought quite recently - just a few days ago you were proving we are facing a slump.

Short-term investing is the game.

you mean gambling?
Not the way I do it.
95  Other / Meta / Re: A job board perhaps? on: October 18, 2012, 12:26:47 AM
Not a lot of BTC companies are hiring regular employees at the moment.

That's the point. It would be nice to see the tiny amount of jobs out of all else that is posted.
96  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Iran can't print paper, guy tells them to use BitCoin on: October 17, 2012, 09:02:30 PM
If the government is banning printing of Iranian currency then the bitcoin network should help by banning the inclusion of Iranian transactions.

Why?

I suppose it was a joke.

I can never tell. I took Swift's "A Modest Proposal" seriously.

Most of those stationary bitcoins are on the hands of Artforz lol

2027: Artforz is declared supreme ruler of Earth due to owning most of the world's wealth. Meanwhile, in London, the Rothschild family declares bankruptcy.
