81  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience NewPac Stickminer Official Support Thread on: November 15, 2018, 03:34:06 AM
Anybody stable on raspian? cgminer is still crashing every 24-48 hours for me. Getting the error : corrup25.789] Shutdown signal received. Really stumped here

I haven't been able to recreate the issue on my RPi3.

I'm assuming you already updated to the latest build from Nov 6 (a few posts back).

Other thoughts:
  • If you have different miners, use the new options from the latest build to separate them.
  • Try reducing the number of miners per instance to see if it makes a difference --usb :3
82  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience NewPac Stickminer Official Support Thread on: November 10, 2018, 02:11:04 PM
Vh,  does the new cgminer version include asicboost or is it still in development? Thanks.

Yes.   Add command line option --gekko-newpac-boost, when connecting to a known Overt AB supported pool.
You can run it once with --verbose to look for the midstate messages, but there's not much noticeable difference otherwise unless you have a USB Amp meter to compare before / after.

@100MHz was 2.65W, with AsicBoost measured 2.35W.      (default)
@200MHz was 4.66W, with AsicBoost measured 4.20W.      (fan cooled)
@400MHz was 9.63W, with AsicBoost measured 8.38W.      (out of support zone)
@600MHz was 13.62W, with AsicBoost measured 12.45W.  (damage if fan gets tired zone)
83  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Announcing GekkoScience's new USB stick miner, the aptly-named NewPac on: November 07, 2018, 03:55:49 AM
let us know improvement  in hash or power or both.

Hash rate stays as expected for the frequency provided.    Power draw drops a bit.

@200MHz was 4.66W, with AsicBoost measures 4.20W.
84  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience NewPac Stickminer Official Support Thread on: November 07, 2018, 03:46:13 AM
A new build is available:  09a2f37

Windows binary: http://23.108.83.14/images/cgminer-4.11.1-windows-gekko-09a2f37.7z

 - Lowered unhealthy hashrate sensitivity for non-newpac down to 33%.

 - Added testing options --gekko-compac-detect, --gekko-2pac-detect, --gekko-terminus-detect and --gekko-newpac-detect

usage: separates out miner types per cgminer instance.  detects all types if not specified.

to assign only newpacs to a cgminer, include in the command line options:
         screen 1's cgminer add:   --gekko-newpac-detect

remember if you set one, set all other instances too:
         screen 2's cgminer add:   --gekko-compac-detect --gekko-terminus-detect
         screen 3's cgminer add:   --gekko-2pac-detect

 - Added testing option --gekko-newpac-boost

Triggers asics to do some extra stuff when connected to version rolling enabled pools.
Hash rate remains as expected for the frequency, power usage is reduced by about 10%.
Will hose startup if trying to connect with option to unsupported pool.

 - Updated udev rules file to allow access to newpac as non-root user.

Best practice update process: keep old working version handy.
  • move the existing "cgminer" folder to "cgminer.yyyymmdd"
  • clone repository to create a new cgminer folder as noted from first post instructions.

85  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Announcing GekkoScience's new USB stick miner, the aptly-named NewPac on: November 05, 2018, 08:45:17 PM
Looks like AsicBoost will be coming soon to these NewPacs.
Check for it in an upcoming build or two.   Cool

86  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience NewPac Stickminer Official Support Thread on: November 05, 2018, 01:59:45 AM
So I just got my NewPac works fine with windows7.
But I can't make work with my new Raspberry - I did everything step by step from the fist post and got stuck with "failed usb_init"

[...]

Didn't help either

Does anybody has same issues like I do?

Looks like I missed a step.

Options:
1 - Run as root.
2 - Wait until next build release.
3 - Append this to the bottom of the 01-cgminer.rules file and try that step again.

Code:
# GekkoScience
ATTRS{idVendor}=="0403", ATTRS{idProduct}=="6015", SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ACTION=="add", MODE="0666", GROUP="plugdev"
87  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience 2Pac/Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: October 23, 2018, 04:47:20 AM
I just loaded a few PCs with Linux mint.

Your software mentions it is for Ubuntu so do I need to load ubuntu 16.0.4 rather then mint ?

Those first post instructions are just hints to which dependencies is needed to be installed first.
It should works just fine on any Linux environment once you get cleanly through the compiling stage.

Just confirmed:

Fresh install of Mint:
Linux Mint 19 - Cinnamon Edition
build of cgminer using "Debian" section instructions looks good.

(run the extra udev steps in the Q&A for privilege as a standard user)

Hi all,

My Win10 updated overnight and now I get an error when I try to run cgminer: "Unsupported 16 bit application". I know nearly everyone is using linux, but it's not an option for me. Is anyone else getting this error?

Thanks,

Tony

That sounds unusual.   I don't have a Win10 machine handy, but if someone else is experiencing this let me know.

In the mean time;
Here is the internals of the latest binary (a17a0f9) from the first post to validate with:

GSD0: GetResults (amt=0 err=-7 ern=138)

This error is often generated by an issue in the extension cables or hub.
Start minimizing parts between the miner and the pc to see if you can track it down.

Hello all i was hoping someone could tell me whats going on.  When my workers are  not showing up

Your best share "Best share: 474" needs to be higher than then pool's minimum difficulty "diff 131K" a few times before your worker will show up.

Also check the first post carefully again.    You should be on 4.11.1 unless you have specific reasons not to.

=================
=Cooling=
=================
If you run a stick miner, use a cooling fan.

Increased cooling can reduce the chip's overall power usage.

Non cooled sticks are subject to thermal runaway where heat will trigger increased amperage draw increasing heat in a cycle until the unit fails.

===============
=Basic Q&A / Troubleshooting=
===============

Q. How can I set a different frequency for the R606 vs NewPac vs 2Pac vs the Compac?

cgminer will accept a custom frequency per device type.
--gekko-r606-freq 600 --gekko-newpac-freq 200 --gekko-compac-freq 200 --gekko-2pac-freq 150

Q. Does the NewPac/R606 support AsicBoost.

Mostly.
  • If you receive shared rejected messages from a specific pool, you can disable asicboost with "--gekko-noboost".

AsicBoost on Win10 may not always work.
  • If you see the frequency drop as soon as it starts up, you can use a modified version of AsicBoost "--gekko-lowboost" or disable asicboost with the command above.

Q: What is causes message: "make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found.  Stop."

Generated by a failure in the autogen command.   Read the last few outputted lines from the command before make.
Generally seen when running make after running the autogen line with a zero instead of a "O" capital o.

Q. How to get past "USB init, open device failed" ... "you don't have privilege to access" error.
Code:
cd ~/git/vthoang/cgminer/
sudo usermod -G plugdev -a `whoami`
sudo cp 01-cgminer.rules /etc/udev/rules.d/
sudo reboot

Q. How to get past "failed to initialse (incorrect device?)" error.

Generally seen when another driver has a hold on the device.

Q. Something doesn't look correct..

Here are some of the more common ways to address issue(s):
  • Isolate to test only the usb stick
            Remove any usb extension cables.
Try a single device without any other accessories drawing power (usb fan, other miners).
Plug into a into different computer.
  • Check for and git the latest build of cgminer.
  • Look through the README.txt file for relevant notes.
  • Handling problems in Windows:
Switch to linux Ubuntu or Raspbian.
Enable High Performance in Power Options Setting.
Confirm the WinUSB driver is attached to the device.
            Reboot the computer.
Try one cgminer process per device with "--usb :1".
  • Search for / post the details to this thread.

94  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: CKPool Stats - iPhone App on: October 19, 2018, 08:10:23 PM
i browsed thru but did not see where it was mentioned - I apologize if it was, on the app it correctly reports/notifies when a block is found - but it is not showing the correct data for "last payout", I am seeing last payout as 9/27/2018 - Block 543272, I have already received payout for block 546079.

Thanks for noticing that.   Guessing that was an address was rotated date.
My source address detection seems to no longer do what it is supposed to.
I've statically added the current address until I can correct that.   It should catch up shortly.

Quoting part of original message and removed the one with first post inside.

boys & girls, I've been trying EVERY SEARCH to find a working leg that will drive the "Compact-2/Gekko-2" chips.  I've been digging for 4+ days.
I FOUND ONE THAT WORKS! going to  make you wait a little.

I'm running a Rpi3b (no plus) attached to an Orico - 20 port USB2.0 hub. It has a 150w power supply.  I have miners in 10 ports, at the default 100mhz I'm averaging 86Gh/s.

This is the fork... AJJJJ-MASTER  (4 j'S)  this distro is running cgminer 4.10.0 ... install all the prereque's, ./autogen.sh --enable-gekko  ./configure --enable gekko  make  make file

WOW, seak and find, fix,  the unwritten prayer of any Systems & Network Engineer... now at 28 years... MY TINY BRAG...

97  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Miner not detected... on: September 16, 2018, 04:21:39 PM
Hi guys,
I recently purchased a GekkoScience 2Pac BM1384 Stickminer from ebay. I configured it to work with ckpool and cgminer. It worked perfectly. But since yesterday I get the following messages.

No devices detected!
Waiting for usb hotplug devices...

...

the device is detected by windows..

...

Please help me to figure out the problem..

Thank you.

A couple of items to try:
        1) reinstall the zadig driver: start zadig -> options -> list all devices -> select the 2Pac -> reinstall
        2) restart your machine.
        3) remove the extension cable.
        4) run in verbose/debug and read through the logs for hints.
        5) try on a different machine (ideally linux based) to confirm the usb miner is healthy.
98  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience 2Pac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: September 15, 2018, 06:12:42 AM
I spotted an updated version of cgminer upstream.

Pulled in those changes with some outstanding local updates.

No need to rush to install this update (abe37de).

Windows build:
http://23.108.83.14/images/cgminer-4.11.1-windows-gekko-abe37de.7z

Notes:

Merged in upstream cgminer 4.11.1
- ready for the latest in pooling technology and hardware.

Added some miscellaneous items for future device support.

Slight improved performance on multiple devices off one cgminer instance.
- tweaked work tread priority.
- stopped retrying on non responsive chips.

Threw in a sample windows .bat file for those still lingering on that platform.

for the linux side:

rename cgminer folder -> clone (see first post) -> autogen -> make
or
pull -> make clean -> autogen -> make

* if you have trouble, move back to last running version.  you made a copy of it right?

99  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience 2Pac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: May 31, 2018, 02:48:53 AM
I got it working on my windows 10 machine just fine after my first try, it's my windows 7 machine that I'm having the issue on

start the zadig installer, select option -> list all devices, select "2Pac BM1384 Bitcoin Miner"
once the left side gray box of Driver shows "WinUSB (...)", you should be okay driver wise.
add a reboot step if that already looks okay.

Anyone facing the same problem lately?

MINE ON!

Nazzer,

is the app called  CKpool Stats ?

Yes it is... And damnit, I missed another block!

i've downloaded it and put in my user name and btc address but its showing nothing on my workers.. any ideas ?

Sometimes vh needs to reboot his back end server...did you put in your API address?  There's no place to put your BTC address...
