81  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: When did NMC started merged mining with BTC? on: April 09, 2014, 09:16:43 PM
You merge mine coins that use the same mining algorithm.

Basically you throw the same lottery ticket at both lottos to see if you win.  Wink

As far as I remember NMC was being merge mined "secretly" by Eligius when I started mining there Oct 2012 and it basically killed the price.

Some accuse merge mining of being a way to keep me-too alt coin prices floored.
82  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How long have you been mining & what is your current hash rate? (+ bonus Q's) on: April 09, 2014, 08:08:15 PM
I've got another 520GH of Bitmine A1 chips on order for delivery mid Feb. Lets see how that goes.
Made 8.8BTC with GPUs, blew it all on ASICs, ROI only 1.6BTC so far, but 2/3rds not mining yet.

My Update:

2x260GH arrived but only ran at 2x250GH and was so noisy I had to underclock them to 215GH
ROI is up to 6.5BTC so 2.3BTC to break even.
Total 700GH mining = 0.0575 BTC day so about 40+ more days. Roll Eyes

I have this with one of my power old supplies, one of the power rails seems to be dead, and I can only run half the watts on the 12v rail. But it could be you just wired something up wrong, if you plug in a speaker on the motherboard it might beep an error code if it's a motherboard error, if not you can get a motherboard diagnostic board off ebay.

85  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We already have money. Why do we need Bitcoin?? on: April 08, 2014, 11:50:31 PM
1) Government won't be able to cut you off from your money. You need to watch the film Enemy of the State because that shit became real when they cut Wikileaks off from the money system after they were passed the 39 minute classified Crazy Horse 18 Apache gunship video where two Reuters reporters and others were killed. Shocked

2) No government/central bank can dilute the supply of money to paper over banking losses/fraud. (Inflation is the ultimate stealth tax.)

4) As there won't be inflation, old people will be able will be able to retire on their savings, and so won't have to take jobs young people should be working!

5) You can see proof of funds which will mean you won't have to trust the honesty of a rating agencies or accountants.

6) Bitcoin is a good alternative currency should the banking system ever collapse too, I've used it when my credit card was blocked, and thought what a good idea it is to have a backup currency, it's way more useful than gold when you want to order a pizza!  Roll Eyes

7) People can trade with each other without having a bank in the middle of every transaction taking a cut. This is especially noticeable when trading with someone in another country as not only are the card fees but also exchange fees.
86  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: KNC Mining New Plan "B" on: April 08, 2014, 08:50:00 PM
If they taped out like it was claimed you'd be better waiting for the 20nm miner because it will probably exceed expected GH like the 28nm did.

It's a gamble, but there's probably a reason why they would swap you 28nm now for your 20nm future order.  Wink

For those who think ASIC hoarding by ASIC producers is killing mining you should campaign to have the Bitcoin algorithm altered to punish centralization!

It wouldn't be too hard to do, every 1% of the network an IP address has, delay new work by 1hr. Bitcoin should be decentralized!

40c inlet temp and 80c out temp?
FYI: in fahrenheit that's in=100 and out=176
And that is only for it being on for 11 minutes???
You've missed the info above the graph, it was a stress test we did in a hot room.
Yes, I did read that part. Which is why I am confused. You say it is a "stress-test" yet the miner shows an up-time of 11 minutes. Is there a screen shot of a minimum 48 hour stress test done in the same "hot room"?

This miner runs very hot so it will be interesting to see if they stand the test of time. My GPUs don't last very long above 100c temps! Tongue

Dogie, might be worth mentioning, price, $/GH, warranty period, in your review?

89  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Technobit HEX8A1 - 130/260 GHs Coincraft A1 board-389/807 EUR April on: April 07, 2014, 02:47:26 PM
i keep getting failures on the hex 16A2
the failure keeps happening periodically and hexboard disables and then starts a new one -> might be over 30-50per day.
most of the time its ZOMBIE
or from faulty to DEAD.

re-starting everything sometimes help, but now i'm starting to get the following
(tried 3.xx and 4.0.0 and 4.2.2 versions)

HEXC failure -> disabling **** glibc detected - cgminer malloc(): memory corruption : 0x012dd718

what wrong?

Visual check your HEX16C, see if there is any burn component.

You can get random restarts from using USB1 (too slow) or multiple power supplies on a shared USB hub (try a power protected hub or seperate everything) or one of the boards is leaking power on the USB (try taping out the gnd/+5V in the USB cable).

about burned component : No Visual problem seen, also works sometimes a while -> so mayby components ok!

about the USB -> i have USB2 cables but the board leaking might be the issue -> when pluggin in USB the fan spins, so mayby there is leakake eather way.
i will try to tape out +5V and - and leave the signale+-.

is this something that can be done?

Yes, I discussed this solution originally in the Hex16b Hands on thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=338790.msg4642613#msg4642613

Just cut some thin strips of cellotape and tape over the outer pins. You'll know which ones are leaking if you connect them to a power protected USB hub they won't communicate or light up, but yeah the fans running when they're connected to USB power only is a good sign too.

Oh and also some power supplies can reset if there is nothing on the 5v line. I put a fan on it, but some people use an old HDD/CD/DVD.

What about producing a longer board with 32 or 64 chips on with PCI-E power connector?

I only ask because I run out of molex connectors pretty fast, and would like to connect more to the 6/8pin PCI-E

I had something weird happen with the new 0_3_1 software and the Hex8A1. I've only been using it a few days.

Lost internet, after router rebooted, the Hex16B went back to mining, but the Hex8A1 flashed red/green. They were using as much power, maybe 20W more actually, but no mining effort was appearing at the pool. I SSH into the TP-Link and it's running 85% load instead of the 30% it normally runs.

After I rebooted everything it's back to normal.

93  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: April 06, 2014, 05:02:41 PM
If you look closely, those fans are facing with the airflow up and out. You can tell by seeing the crossbars that connect the fan motor to the housing which is usually on the outlet side.

So those are probably second fans with the factory default fans on the bottom.  They are situated the "right way".

Ya I was about to say they could have just flipped the fans

Fans are much less effective in suck position. You would have to make the tunnel over the heatsinks air tight.

95  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Wifi cuts off every night on: April 04, 2014, 08:26:33 PM
Well it's not filters if you're on cable/fiber. They're just for copper lines. Cheesy

I'd try using fixed IP address on your phones and wifi dongles. It might be when you go to sleep you stop using your phones and they drop off DHCP which causes it to crash.
96  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Wifi cuts off every night on: April 04, 2014, 07:09:00 PM
You might need an ADSL filter on all your phone equipment.

http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/635/~/why-do-i-need-adsl-filters-%28microfilters%29-and-where-do-they-go%3F

also Apple equipment has been known to crash routers that use DHCP set a manual IP address on any Apple kit you own.

I am running 275/1000

Nice, don't ask for RMA if something bad happen  Grin

I dont see why. I am running them in a datacenter and would guess that I am one of the few that have the devices running in a controlled environment made for computers.

Btw, can I use wifi to connect the TPLink to the network or only hard wired connection?

No, WiFi is disabled in the technobit ddwrt version

You can use 2 TP-Links  Wink

I suspect info is bogus. It's clearly 4 modules, 8 chips @ 250GH, per module, which will be closer to 1100-1200W if you don't want a tonne of H/W errors and rejects. They look a lot like the Lketc Dragon miner modules.

I'd be more concerned about the chips coming in and being not-right.   Like what recently happened to BFL.  That set them back 5 weeks or so.  If BA has that happen, game over...

Keep up that happened already, they are on Chip attempt no. 2, supposedly the first one wasn't fast enough to be competative. Tongue
