801  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What would happen if ASIC on Scrypt chain? on: October 15, 2013, 10:44:08 AM
It would actually be very beneficial for Bitcoin if a scrypt ASIC was made and used to attack the alts, they could all be destroyed!
802  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which altcoins most likely on mtgox? on: October 14, 2013, 01:44:12 PM
LTC for sure as they've said so, then the other main contenders are PPC, XPM and NMC.  Those are the only others that offer any major innovation as far as I'm aware.  Who knows they might become a ripple gateway too and add XRP options.
803  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] CryptoAve | New USD/BTC Crypto Exchange | Live Demos Posted on: October 14, 2013, 10:43:09 AM
This looks great  Grin  Do you have any plans to add PPC?  That would be awesome!

No plants to add additional currencies as of now.

The last CryptoAve share auction is now taking place at http://digitalcoin.co/forums/index.php/topic,186

I bought some shares Smiley  As a shareholder, I must say it makes no sense not to add the most highly traded alt coins to an alt coin exchange.  I get that it's a smart move putting the coins you developed on there, but adding PPC and XPM would increase trade volume, making the share value go higher, as well as attracting more traders to the exchange which would increase the value of the other coins traded there. It's win win.  I don't think the exhchange can be taken seriously without PPC and XPM, they add additional legitimacy to the exchange.  People will wonder why they aren't there.  Please reconsider Smiley
804  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Devcoin(DVC) Source Code Updated to Bitcoin 0.8.x on: October 14, 2013, 10:39:02 AM
Anyone else have any DVC to offer for the bounty?

805  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [DVC]DevCoin - Official Thread - Moderated on: October 13, 2013, 05:14:58 PM
I'd be up for offering some DVC towards a bounty to get the code fixed.  However, I don't really know what is wrong with it and I'm not a coder.  Who can help?
806  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin on: October 13, 2013, 03:54:44 PM
Estimated time changes each block due to retargetting and different block hashes.  10'000 NXT gives you 0.001% to generate a block.

If I may suggest, when releasing Nxt, donīt make the amount of coins to high. In general if you have a low coin "cap" (1 million or something in that range) it has a good physiological effect of being something "rare".
While if you have  1 trillion coins (or similar), it for one has the affect of being something "cheap" aswell as being difficult to trade against BTC (and almost impossible to trade against USD/fiat).
Well, just my thoughts Wink

I actually associate low total coin amounts with scamcoins such as bitbar.  Obviously a trillion coins is far too many too.
807  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [DVC]DevCoin - Official Thread - Moderated on: October 13, 2013, 06:48:20 AM
My total page views is 192 and Fheenix's is 32,000... So it makes a little more sense to me now why some people get positive multipliers, while some don't.

But if we could see our page views go up daily or weekly, I feel like we would be more compelled to work on that.

This would really help a lot. I have no way of knowing if anything I am doing is producing page views. Daily would be really helpful. Some kind of rolling average would be really helpful, too. I don't know how difficult this would be to do in practice.

Unless you're promoting your work you should assume you are getting very few page views, that's generally how it works anywhere on the Internet.

I've never thought much of FTC but I must admit I am impressed, it at least shows the dev team are committed.
810  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Devtome Ratings on: October 11, 2013, 07:09:01 AM
Devtome now has ratings! If you're a devcoin admin, or are a developer on the bitcoin share list or the devcoin share list, please sign up to rate writers by adding yourself to the rater list:
http://devtome.com/doku.php?id=devtome_rater#raters

Raters will get to vote in this round, round 28. It will take several days for raters to sign up, get their forms and rate, which will go over the cutoff day for this round, but these ratings will still be in the round 28 group. Once I have the votes, I'll update the devtome script for rounds 29 and after to take the ratings into account, with equal weighting to popularity.

Raters get three shares for voting and up to two extra shares for comments, for a maximum of five shares. Comments get 0.4 shares each, rounded down, to a maximum of 2 shares. Assuming a typical share value of 15$, and an average of four shares, that works out to 60 $/page. A rating page has up to twelve writers to rate, most of the time it will be twelve. Alyssa reported that filling out the form with a few comments took 45 minutes. The typical hourly rate is 60 $/page / 45 minutes/page * 60 minutes/hour = 80 $/hour.

The rate is very high to give the raters extra reason to reject bribes.

Because the rate is so high, rating is a perk. This perk is offered only to the people who help the community a lot, devcoin admins and open source developers.

More info is on the rater page:

This is great to hear and I hope it leads to a higher quality of writing on Devtome.  It does also make me slightly nervous about the ratings.  I published two books onto Devtome, which I put a huge amount of work into and haven't published anywhere else.  They are also much longer than the usual articles so I don't know if the raters are expected to read them all the way though or if they should just read a few thousand words as a sample?

I promoted one of my Devtome books (Walking Upright:  The Appalachian Trail in Virginia) on a hiking forum and it went down really well, people have been enjoying reading it.  I'd feel really bad if it got low ratings... Here's the forum where I posted about it:

811  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [WTB] 20k DGC (Digital Coin) for 3 BTC on: October 10, 2013, 09:19:42 PM
As the title says I'm wanting to buy 20k DGC (Digital Coin) for 3 BTC.  This is approximately at market price on Cryptsy but theres not enough depth there for this size order.  I hope I have enough trust for you to be willing pay first.  We can split the deal into 2 chunks if you feel more comfortable, or we could use an escrow.
812  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin on: October 10, 2013, 07:35:29 PM
This looks potentially interesting, I'm watching and hoping it keeps developing.  Smiley

814  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Swiss to vote on 2,500 franc basic income for every adult on: October 08, 2013, 08:55:37 PM
There are always unintended consequences when the government does something like this.  It seems (to me anyway) that one consequence of this give-away is that it would necessarily, directly feed inflation and/or devaluation of the currency.  By how much would be hard to guess.  I throw out a WAG that after this program has been in place for 15 months, it will cost at least 3.500 to 4.000 francs to purchase what that 2.500 francs would have bought prior to the start of this program.

No, I don't have any stats or info to back up that guess.  However I think it is naïve to think you can infuse that amount of cash into an economy, with no change (or even a negative change) in the work output, without causing inflation and/or a devaluation in the currency.

It's not being 'infused' into the economy, it's being moved from rich to poor people.  It might not have any inflationary effect.

Sounds like a brilliant way to spread bitcoin usage and great fun too, good luck!
816  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will ASIC adoption bring PPC to the forefront of alt currency? on: October 08, 2013, 11:23:53 AM
pure pump and dump, PPC is a failed coin easy to pump and make ppl be stupid

There is pumping going on for sure, but PPC is far from "pure" pump and dump.  Theres a natural market correction upwards going on too due to ASIC adoption as well as LTC weakening and the upcoming client update, and people becoming more aware of bitcoins electricity consumption, which is only going to get worse and worse.  Asic adoption is going to keep increasing, and so PPC is going to keep rising even faster than bitcoin.

I predict PPC will reach 0.005 by Christmas, maybe a lot sooner.
817  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will ASIC adoption bring PPC to the forefront of alt currency? on: October 08, 2013, 07:55:11 AM
Yes, this is a big part of what is going on with PPC, bravo on the prediction OP.

Do we have any proof this 100% POS coin even works?  I am very suspicious.  If it's so easy to design a secure 100% POS coin why didn't Satoshi do it?

820  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you see Silk Road's closure as a positive or negative? on: October 07, 2013, 09:51:57 AM
Its not an opinion its a fact. Bitcoin is Freedom ,Anonymity and Anarchy! Let me define Anarchy for you so you can understand. Anarchy:a state of disorder due to absence or nonrecognition of authority. Now lets move on. How exactly does Sex hurt Bitcoin, are you kidding me ? I can see maybe drugs and scams hurt its over all image to Bible thumpers and Libtards who like to control people but sex? let me ask you how you came to be created?

No ones saying silk roads permanent closure is good for bitcoin, for all we know it could come back online and even if it doesn't there are other similar marketplaces that will grow to replace it but this 'closure event' has clearly been good for bitcoin.  The price has survived and theres been a ton of publicity.  It's probably the single biggest publicity boost bitcoin has ever received.
