8041  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Copay wallet, is a hot wallet?... unsafe or not? on: October 12, 2017, 11:41:35 PM
Seems like it isn't just MultiSigs after all Wink I just didn't read that much into it... but they seem to promote MultiSig wallets for added security... I think I was confusing Copay with the Electrum+TrustedCoin 2FA setup Roll Eyes my bad!

i mean i just want to create a 2 of 2 multisig wallet in copay, but it will not let you do it without first being connected to the internet, and i want to know why, because that sounds like a red flag right?
After reading https://github.com/bitpay/copay/issues/5367 and https://github.com/bitpay/copay/issues/2667

It seems that because your wallet needs to be registered with the BWS (Bitcore-wallet-service)... you need to be connected. People raise valid points that you should still be able to generate a wallet offline and register later, but their service does not currently allow for this.
8042  Other / MultiBit / Re: Multibit import error with private key backup. Have I lost my BCC? on: October 12, 2017, 11:31:31 PM
Do you still have the original MultiBit wallet and application? I assume you are talking about MultiBit Classic as you mentioned private key export (which MBHD does not support).

If you still have the original wallet and applicaiton, use "tools -> export private keys"... and DO NOT password protect the output file:

You need to enter your wallet password at the top, and then leave the password field at the bottom empty... Select the "do not password protect export file" option:

Note: you don't want to copy the datetime stamp at the end of the private keys when trying to import them into your BCC wallet of choice... Wink

This will create a plaintext version of the export file which you will find then contains the private keys in the correct "WIF" format... Ie. You'll see keys beginning with a "K" or "L"... Like this:

If re-exporting them does not work, or you do not still have the original wallet file, then you'll most likely need to try and decrypt the exported file manually... for this you need to use OpenSSL to decrypt the files... I would suggest that you read these two documents:

https://multibit.org/help/v0.5/help_exportingPrivateKeys.html
https://github.com/Multibit-Legacy/multibit/wiki/Export%20and%20limited%20import%20of%20private%20keys

8043  Other / MultiBit / Re: Multibit Backups on: October 12, 2017, 11:26:54 PM
Abend,
kennt sich hier jemand mit den Backups von Multibit aus? Sind aes. Dateien, mit truecrypt kann ich die jedoch nicht entschlüsseln.
Just FYI, Forum rules dictate that anything in the "Main" forum and subforums should be in English... only "local" boards allow for non-english posts Wink

Evening, someone knows here with the backups of Multibit? Are aes. Files, with truecrypt I can not decrypt.
You need to use OpenSSL to decrypt the files... I would suggest that you read these two documents:

https://multibit.org/help/v0.5/help_exportingPrivateKeys.html
https://github.com/Multibit-Legacy/multibit/wiki/Export%20and%20limited%20import%20of%20private%20keys

good luck!
8044  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: making paper wallet to paper wallet transaction on: October 12, 2017, 11:18:33 PM
I would like to make that with anonymity

By using electrum software on my computer, inevitably my ip or else will be associated with the transaction?

Is there not a way to create the transaction offline with private key then to broadcast it to the network online through a website?  (like it is possible to do with ethereum on www.myetherwallet.com)
And how do you propose to broadcast the transaction to the network through a website without your IP address being associated with the transaction? You're still going to need an IP address to talk to the website... which could still end up linking your IP to the transaction.

Unless you're talking about creating a signed transaction offline... then copying the raw signed transaction hex onto a USB drive... and going and using a public computer owned by someone else to then broadcast that transaction via a website like coinb.in or blockcypher or b.info etc.

That would effectively link your transaction to someone else's IP address.
8045  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: bitcoin electrum doesn't show received transactions on: October 12, 2017, 10:50:38 PM
Can you please click the green dot (or use "Tools -> Network")... and tell us the following information:

dear /
I saw the
13HJKEZ5KKTqMSJwXPh9G5dsiiHwvjdbYC

in my wallet but it doesn't have any fund.
It doesn't have any funds on the blockchain either... "Final balance" = 0 Huh

yes I see this green at the right
Who send them?
I didn't do that
Do you see ANY transaction history in Electrum? Does it show any transactions at all? Or is the history tab completely blank? Huh
8047  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: ledger basic 24words on: October 12, 2017, 12:51:58 PM
You found the website.... so maybe try reading through some of the FAQs in the support section: https://ledger.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005214469-Are-my-coins-stored-securely-

Basically, the seed is randomly generated when you initialise the device... it is only ever contained within the device and the only time it is displayed is on the devices screen when you first set it up and confirm it.

It certainly isn't pre-programmed... and everytime you reset/wipe the device you generate a new seed.
8048  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Status: 0/unconfirmed, in memory pool on: October 12, 2017, 10:46:18 AM
I did use the recommended setting in Bitcoin Core wallet. Is there a way to speed it up other than ViaBTC?
Depending on the size of the transaction you might be able to use confirmtx.com for free. Anything UNDER 500 bytes they'll accelerate for free... anything over that is $4.

When you say you used the recommended setting in Bitcoin Core... what was your "Confirmation Time target" set to?
8049  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum not opening in Windows 10 on: October 12, 2017, 10:37:54 AM
Possibly a permissions error... have you tried running the application as administrator?

You might also want to try downloading the portable version as a test, and run it from a non-system directory (like in your downloads folder or something) and see if that works.
8050  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Warning about portable versions on: October 12, 2017, 10:36:15 AM
"Tools -> Preferences -> Fiat"

Set the value and server as you wish. Note that this will only give you a fiat value for your total balance (it doesn't show fiat values in the transaction history or transaction details)... and when you try to create a send it will show a "fiat value" text entry box next to the "btc value" text entry box.
8051  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: bitcoin electrum doesn't show received transactions on: October 12, 2017, 10:32:33 AM
In Electrum 2.9.3... do the following:

1. If you DON'T have an "Addresses" tab visible, then use the following menu items: "View -> Show Addresses"
2. Click on the "Addresses" Tab
3. make sure you expand the "Receiving", "Change" and "Used" sections by clicking on any ">" symbols until they look like "v" symbols
4. Check to see if you can see any of these addresses in the list:
1CL7A6eBeh9pFLCoLvUuPKNXKgYGjfFqfP
13HJKEZ5KKTqMSJwXPh9G5dsiiHwvjdbYC
1Bs5kN8ptteNzQT6n4EzvRjzoouVthNhU
19yLuiC8wEJFssWQKTHxt55Qcubtj3BqKU
1CTq4VfxBGuCz8QvCcwzzn23iUn25VZb92
36GkYVh2AUGYd7ohZawGWrZ5vY5xV2HiGn
13HJKEZ5KKTqMSJwXPh9G5dsiiHwvjdbYC
1P9NCp85yTpD9DL2YYckbwBvQNGvMuYv77

If you do not see any of those addresses, then your wallet does not contain those addresses, and you either gave people the wrong address(es) to send coins to, or you created the wallet with the wrong seed and/or derivation path.

Did you import this wallet using a backup 12 word phrase from another wallet?
8052  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Copay wallet, is a hot wallet?... unsafe or not? on: October 12, 2017, 08:22:42 AM
I believe that Copay utilises MultiSig for added security... with one of the private keys being generated/stored on the Copay servers. So it needs to be able to connect to their server to be able to complete the wallet creation process.
8053  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Should I buy 2 nanos? on: October 12, 2017, 08:18:40 AM
I think 2 nano ledgers would be a great idea as I noticed the space is very small to store more than 6 coins. I managed only 6 and that's all. Sad
You can just use the ledger Manager to uninstall and reinstall the various altcoin "apps" as you need... you won't lose you coins if you uninstall. All the wallets use the same seed to generate your addresses. As the seed doesn't change (unless you reset the hardware wallet) when you reinstall the app later, it will regenerate your previous wallet.

For instance, say you want to store some litecoin, install the litecoin app, transfer 10 litecoin to the generated address... but then you want to get some DOGE, so you uninstall the litecoin app... and install DOGE app... and receive 100000 doge to your wallet... then you decide to sell your litecoin, so you uninstall doge and reinstall litecoin app, and your 10 litecoin will still be there Wink

It's a bit of a nuisance if you want to deal with multiple currencies all at the same time, several times a day... but it is possible Wink
8054  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Leger Nano S recovery phrase on: October 12, 2017, 08:13:13 AM
I found incorrect word.  I wrote down "stuff" not "staff".  This is fucking crazy.  Grin
Yeah... it's pretty easy to do... Glad you managed to find the mistake. Sometimes it isn't quite so easy Wink

And what BNM suggested is very sound advice... make sure you can actually recover from seed before committing significant funds to the device! It will certainly give you some extra piece of mind that everything is working as it should Smiley
8055  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: What is the "Request Payment" button for? on: October 12, 2017, 08:07:15 AM
This is what makes no sense about this ecosystem.  I can track the transactions (deposits) to the Jaxx wallet (From Coinbase and ABRA) because there is a history there.  Yet, for some reason all of that is totally irrelevant.  I would submit that it is relevant.  It's my damn money but there doesn't appear to be anything I can do about it.  As long as this kind of insanity is going on mainstream will never join up because this wouldn't be tolerated.  As much as I dislike banks I would have recourse with them.  Not so here.
Your problem is that you cannot "prove" that that money is yours, as you do not have access to the private keys that control the coins. Without the private keys to prove ownership, how can the system know that the account is yours? because you say so? because you can show that you sent money from another account you own to their current location?

Regardless of any "papertrail", it just isn't relevant as far as the Bitcoin system is concerned... none of that is evidence or proof that the coins are "yours"... Essentially, it's proof that the coins "were" yours at some point... but has no relevance now.

The only "proof" the Bitcoin system will accept is a properly signed transaction using the appropriate private keys... and I'd say it is also highly likely that in a similar situation, no bank would be willing to grant you ownership without similar proof.

There is a reason why you'll see the phrase "If you don't have the private keys, you don't have the coins" repeated so often in Cryptocurrency circles.
8056  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: help setting up 2-2 multisig wallet, using laptop and phone on: October 12, 2017, 07:35:03 AM
Ok, so the full process would be something like:

1. On Device #1 (ie. PC), create a new wallet
2. Select "MultiSig Wallet"
3. Select "2 of 2"
4. Select "Create a new seed"
5. Copy this seed down (we'll call it "PCSeed") and re-enter to confirm you have it saved properly.
6. Copy down the "xpub" that it displays (we'll call it "PCxpub")

--- Move to 2nd device

7. On Device #2 (ie. Phone) create a "MultiSig Wallet"
8. Select "2 of 2"
9. Select "create a new seed"
10. Copy this seed down (we'll call it "PhoneSeed") and re-enter it to confirm you have it saved properly.
11. Copy down the "xpub" that it displays (we'll call it "Phonexpub")
12. Select "enter co-signer key"
13. Enter "PCxpub" from Step #6
14. Wait while your wallet+addresses are generated.

--- Back to 1st device

15. select "enter co-signer key"
16. Enter "Phonexpub" from Step #11
17. wait while your wallet+addresses are generated.

Now, double check that the addresses generated on both devices are the same before you send any funds to the wallet! (check the address shown on "receive" tab on Phone matches first "receive" address listed on "addresses" tab on PC)

You should now be able to create a transaction on either the PC or the phone, that needs to be signed using the other device before it can be broadcast. Smiley

As for backups, don't worry about copying wallet files and backing up to USB... as long as you have the two seeds ("PCSeed" and "PhoneSeed") safely stored you'll be able to recreate your MultiSig wallet.
8057  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: any open source spv wallet? on: October 12, 2017, 07:07:52 AM
Electrum is an open source, multi OS SPV Wallet... source code here: https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum (Python)

MultiBit HD was also an open source SPV wallet (although it is now discontinued and has a number of serious bugs): https://github.com/Multibit-Legacy/multibit-hd

MultiBit Classic was also SPV (it is also discontinued): https://github.com/Multibit-Legacy/multibit

Then you have Mycelium... open source SPV for Android: https://github.com/mycelium-com/wallet
8058  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: New Hardware Wallet (Ledger Nano S) on: October 12, 2017, 07:03:01 AM
NOTE: currently you cannot use Electrum + SegWit together... SegWit support is slated for version 3.0 which is currently in development/testing.

So if you wish to use Electrum as the software in conjunction with your Nano, you'll need to stick to "Legacy" wallets on your Nano for the moment.
8059  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Old wallet.dat file loaded with old unconfirmed transaction on: October 12, 2017, 06:56:39 AM
So I tried blockexplorer and it returned an error: "Missing inputs. Code:-25
blockchain.info gives me "missing parents for <tx> while inserting: <other number?>
This means that at least one (possibly all) of the inputs to your "unconfirmed transaction" have already been spent in another transaction, so they are no longer in the UTXO set... they effectively don't exist anymore. This is not surprising given that 4 years has passed since that transaction was originally broadcast.

So basically, there is no way for you to rebroadcast this transaction to the network. Those coins are gone.
8060  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: how to download whole database on: October 12, 2017, 06:49:07 AM
The size of pruned blockchain is apparently about 8GB currently.
The size of a "pruned" blockchain is whatever the Node owner has set the "prune" size to be via the config/commandline... it has a minimum of 550 Megabytes... but you can prune to any size above that.

Ref: https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/blob/v0.11.0/doc/release-notes.md#block-file-pruning

It should be noted, that even if you use "prune"... on a new node, you'll still end up downloading the full 140+gigs of blockchain so it can validate each block as it syncs... it is just that only the last X megabytes are actually stored on disk.
