8147  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / A Interview With The Huntercoin (HUC) Founder. on: July 09, 2014, 08:12:21 AM
The article this is pulled from can be found here: http://www.coinssource.com/interview-with-the-founder-huntercoin/

Huntercoin (HUC) is a truly innovative e-currency which features a dual SHA-256 and scrypt traditional mining system along with a very unique gaming graphical interface through which people can control in-game characters to collect coins. HUC is the first so called human-mineable e-currency and is the beginning of an entirely new category of online multiplayer gaming which would eliminate the need for central servers and make it practically impossible to cheat. In this way, the Huntercoin developers are really pioneers in the field of blockchain applications.

Huntercoin’s virtual world of Chronosius is accessed with the HUC wallet client. Most of the HUCs are released within this gaming environment though there is some dependence on traditional proof of working mining through the SHA-256 and scrypt algorithms. Players control ‘Hunters’ which are the in game characters that are able to collect and harvest coins. Once HUCs are collected on the game map (see right), they need to be brought to the ‘spawn’ area in order for them to be sent to your actual wallet address.

Huntercoin is approaching a ‘hard fork’ or a major client update at block 255,000, which will bring on a lot of changes in game play and the human mining aspect. Recently, we had the privilege of asking the founder of Huntercoin some questions regarding its history, future and about some of the team’s most recent efforts. Here it is:

First of all, thank you so much for taking the time to answer our questions. Ever since I first learned about Huntercoin, I was fascinated with the possibilities of a distributed, peer to peer gaming platform. The idea of a multiplayer system without the dependence on massive centralized servers is clearly an attractive solution for the gaming industry and more importantly, for the gamers.

What inspired you to create this so called ‘human-mineable’ crypto-currency?

I’ve always been a gamer and that’s really where it all started. From the CBS Colecovision to the Commodore 64 and Amiga and finally to the PC with a variety of MMORPGs. My first experience of the concept of virtual things having real world value was on Everquest in the very early days (1999-2000). I made a few trades of virtual items for better virtual items and eventually for ‘real’ money. I soon discovered that I could make a modest living out of it and I did for the next 10 years (across multiple MMOs). Then in 2011 I heard about Bitcoin. I was fascinated by the idea of an alternative to ‘real’ money (or fiat currency to give it the correct name). To my mind, trading Bitcoins for goods and services was really no different to trading virtual items in a MMO. Then Namecoin came along and the penny dropped. Virtual currencies could come in many forms and maybe, just maybe, it could also come in the form of a MMO. The crypto-currency could be the game and the game could be the crypto-currency.

What have you found to be most challenging in the development of Huntercoin? What about the most rewarding aspect of its development?

From my perspective the game mechanics have been the most challenging. Getting the balance right was and still is a learning experience. It has to be interesting but not too easy and not too hard for human players. It also has to be loop-hole and exploit free! The most rewarding aspect was the day of release and witnessing that it not only worked but there was a whole new world unfolding before our eyes. I know this sounds very grand but it felt like we had created a new Universe or ecosystem of sorts.

What type of future do you foresee for Huntercoin?

I expect it to gain some significant momentum over the ensuing year and become popularly known. There are so many clone coins out there creating lots of distracting noise but these will die out as their bubbles burst and support wanes. A number of us are absolutely committed to Huntercoin’s further development and we’ve been working hard to ensure that the foundations are right before we grow. Doing this will ensure longevity.

In the long run I believe that Huntercoin will be a component of the future labour market because humans can earn crypto-currency by playing a game and this may represent a better prospect than some of their other job options. As more people play and earn it is increasingly likely that they will trade the currency directly for goods and services. I mean, when you collect your wages you don’t usually exchange them for another currency whilst letting someone take a cut too.

Do you foresee any specific problems with the continued development of Huntercoin? Does this latest update address some of these problems?

It is all progressing very well and we continue to work on improvements but we recognise that what we are doing with Huntercoin is pretty unique so some challenges test us more than others. The main improvements are:

1. Blockchain size and syncing speed

Daniel Kraft aka Domob, the lead coder on the project is working on implementing blockchain pruning and improving performance. Fortunately we are both avid namecoin supporters/contributors, and Daniel is leading the development of the namecoin codebase. This means that improving either huntercoin or namecoin works both ways in that an improvement to one means an improvement to the other. It’s a nice symbiotic relationship!

2. Bots

There are bots operating (mining) within Huntercoin just as there are bots creating email accounts and sending spam. They can be a nuisance but in some sense they also make the game more interesting. They’ll never be eliminated in entirety nor would we really want that but we can do a few things to help keep the numbers down and make it pretty difficult for them. We think the best way of doing this is to help the human players (miners) retain the advantage against the bots and their masters. For now (Hard Fork) this will be achieved by doing three things:

a. Increasing the cost of playing the game will increase the risk to the bot masters.
b. Implementing “The Cleansing”. In a nut-shell, this is akin to a natural disaster in the real world that could occur at any time so running an army (of bots) is going to be risky business if they could all be wiped out suddenly.
c. Addressing a process called re-cycling so that we can prevent human players and especially bots from playing for free.

People love games and the concept of earning an e-currency with ‘real-world’ value through gameplay is clearly an attractive prospect. What do you think needs to happen for Huntercoin to reach a broader audience?

It’s really a case of addressing 1. and 2. mentioned earlier. That’s really about performance improvements and limiting the bots. This will help broaden the audience initially. But perhaps the biggest thing we can do is to enable anyone to play (mine) Huntercoin anywhere on any device. This is the thing we are really excited about so watch this space for when we roll out a centralised server service that allows human-miners to play via mobile devices or virtually any PC or MAC. Just download from the store and start playing without worrying about blockchain syncing or anything like that. This simplicity combined with the ability to earn and play will really launch Huntercoin into the mainstream. It’s just a small matter of time. But, we are committed to doing the right thing for Huntercoin, the existing community, and what we anticipate will be a whole new (and very big) future community, so it will be ready when it’s ready.

Thanks again for taking the time to answer these questions for us. We look forward to following the Huntercoin project as it progresses and are quite excited about the possibilities.

8149  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What happening with DOGE? on: July 08, 2014, 08:02:04 PM

Cryptocurrencies are decentralized. Jackson doesn't matter more than any other Dogecoin user; even if he had fucked it up on purpose, there's no way the community will let it die.

And yes, dogecoin does attract different investor than Bitcoins: Those who are fed up about how Bitcoin is filled with speculating leeches, those who don't care about the libertan ideals of big btc holders, those who want to partake in a more fun and lighthearted community, and those who want to be early holders of a coin in order to live the experience of contributing to an awesome project and profiting from it.

I guess I saw the other side of DOGE.

DDoS, Hacking and all types of fucked up shit.... glad you guys see it as a lighthearted community, but that isn't what made DOGE a success on the back side of the board.

I'm here for guns, drugs and rock n roll anyways.

GL with yalls stuff as always Lynn.
8150  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What happening with DOGE? on: July 08, 2014, 07:15:37 PM

Imho, since Dogecoin attracts different kind of investors than Bitcoin, I have the impression that its value is more tied to fiat (especially CNY on bter).

um.... Bitcoin investors are the ones who invested in DOGE.

DOGE will NEVER be primarily tied to fiat. If you think this you are = to or > retarded as Jackson or you are Jackson.

DOGE only got off the ground because it hit the heart of early Bitcoin investors.... not so much any more.

Avoid DOGE like the plague at this point. It is "returning to mean meme" as we speak and honestly I believe this was the developers plans. In other words... I think Jackson fucked it up on purpose to match a picture that was released early on (www.DogecoinCharts.com)

Jackson continuously bashes bitcoin holders and encourages people not to hold crypto... Not sure why it would be any different for "his" coin.

Feathercoin has 639 members on Reddit, Dogecoin has almost 88000. These numbers are incomparable.

And for the record... Fuck Reddit. No one cares how many sock puppets can sign up.

Quality or quantity any day of the week!
8151  Economy / Goods / Re: Selling Laser Pointers *Green 400MW* Only 85.99$!!! on: July 08, 2014, 03:11:40 AM
These are cool items indeed and I've seen plenty demos of these types of high-powered lasers. But what is the legality of owning one of these in the US? What is the legal threshold for max power? And would you take responsible if case customs confiscates it?

Only problem I've ever seen with lazer pointers in the USA is point them at cops. Tends to freak them out a little for whatever reason Cheesy

Are you saying that from experience?  Wink. This is probably true, because it emulates the person being targeted, ie a gun is pointing at them. Although, the laser would have to be red. Haven't seen a green or blue laser mounted on a gun before.

It rings a bell with me for whatever reason. Smiley

Also aircraft/helicopters don't like them either (this is against the law.)

I remember hearing a story about Schwagstock (music festival that got shut down and the owners in prison) that some kid fell in the fire.  Well, they called the helicopter for him and everyone thought it was a raid.... needless to say people started hitting the chopper with so much laser power they couldn't even land.

The festival people had let people know it wasn't the FED's.

I've only ever seen the black light lazer that could burn a little shit. This type of lazer listed here is on a whole different level... this fucker belongs in the gun safe if it can focus that amount of power!

Edit:

Here is a green laser for your gun!

8154  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HUC] Huntercoin - Human Mining - game world inside the Block Chain on: July 07, 2014, 10:27:36 PM
If the community wants to get involved, I recommend:

Get HUC listed on as many exchanges as you can.
Contribute to the code (and give ideas) to speed things up.
Promote Huntercoin.
Get HUC merge mined on as many pools as you can.

probably more but can't think atm.

Set up a multi pool that allows the small miners to have a crack at earning some HUC with their power.

We need the little guys on our side and we can merge mine while pwning.

If Huntercoin is actively "hunting" shit coins this will do two powerful things for us:

A:  Allow miners of all sizes to earn Huntercoins though these "get rich quick" coins. This could be done for NMC as well (and should be.)
B:  Puts some sort of ass end on the bid of Huntercoin.  I would recommend using this pool for the HUC bid due to the fact we are seeing a "seller" market and have it bullish pointed toward NMC.

I believe there are several mining pools that already do this for altcoins, so we have two options:

A:  Lobby them to set this up for HUC/NMC
B:  Someone make their own.

(Hashco.ws I believe sets up multi pools for coins if I recall what Seedtrue said to me)
This is the irc Server: irc.freenode.org Channel: #hashcows

Obviously we can do both A&B... My abilities are more directed at A because B is beyond my abilities at this moment now.

News and Media is always good, but i would prefer the game to sync fast, use less space and accessible to all, before getting any major reviews Smiley

1000% agree.
Too much media before she is 100% prepared could hurt our efforts for sure.

DOGE didn't get media/attention until about 15-30% of the "total" OS was mined (Outstanding Shares and I do "total" because it was then forked to be unlimited."

Not comparing HUC to DOGE at all... just pointing out the fact that we are still way under that point.
8155  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HUC] Huntercoin - Human Mining - game world inside the Block Chain on: July 07, 2014, 08:17:40 PM
Game is completely different now. The disaster & 10 HUC thing are working really well.

Demand for HUC did not increased even a bit. For demand to increase and thus price to recover it would help if general don't drop any coins when killed except coins he carried.
Put differently, 10 HUC to create general and if he dies immidiately afterwards no coins will be dropped. Unless at some point almost any sort of player must go to Poloniex and
buy coins to create new generals price is bound to go down even more.

Not sure why anyone would think that this would increase demand atm. Demand will increase when we can all work together to figure out how in the fuck we can have this playable within 5 minutes, when people have a place to move their coins off the exchange and finally when she gets listed with a "trusted" exchange.

Right now my guess is that there are very few actually miners at the moment due to the wallet syncing issues, so if you are mining right now... congrats. Use those coins for good or sell them into the market and then tuck the bitcoins back in lower. (By all means do what the fuck you want with your own coins, but we will build a economy by doing this.)

I have 100% faith in Snailbrain to organize this and I have 100% faith in the idea behind HUC.  We are small "community" at this point and that is because HUC is a product that people want/need, but they don't know it yet.

Once it doesnt take forever to sync up i really think we need to get on bittrex.

What you think that would achieve? Price might go up a bit but minute later people would be dumping like crazy. You need to look at all-time Poloniex graph, it is clear as day
supply is much higher than demand. Buyers are pretty much tired now, very few actualy made money off HUC by mere buying and selling later, especially in last two months.

Last: 0.00005017
High: 0.0035
Low: 0.00003701

When the going gets tough the tough get going.

Bitcoin went from $32 to $1... I imagine the people who held on are pretty happy today.  The ones who continued to buy during the struggle are probably even happier!

The developer said the developer .... I said in the game with the 2nd day of its existence! And developers have a lot of things said and have never turned out as they were talking about!

like what?

Snailbrain,

Fuck that MotherFucker he has AIDS!  Only joking OSYA! That is off East Bound and Down I believe. (Kenny Powers)

You just keep cranking the crank and my offer still stand if we need addition people on the project.

I'll stand outside every fucking tech firm there is with you recruiting if we have to.  I fucking shit you not my friend.
