8141  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: About Bitcoin Lightning Network and transaction fee on: September 02, 2020, 08:11:11 AM
I can't see any suggestion there since that's what lightning network is for  Smiley
You can check above the comment of ETFbitcoin, I am just trying to encourage him to use lightning network, that it can truly be used in a way to make small payments. This is his comment below

This is also reason why LN is hardly popular, since you would pay more or about same if you rarely make transaction (less than 3 transaction within the LN channel duration).

But you don't need to open a channel directly to the restaurant if you already have an existing channel(s) that's connected to an LN node that has a good number of channels and capacity.
This is not accurate. If you do not have any channel that directly or indirectly connected to the restaurant, you will still need to open a channel with the restaurant or someone that have already opened a channel with the restaurant. Check the example below.

For example.
If you are Mr A and you open a channel with Mr B, while the restaurant is R. If you do not have a channel with R (the restaurant) but you have a channel with Mr B, then fine, you do not need to open a channel with R (the restaurant) again. But the fee that will be paid will be higher than having a direct channel.

But, the Restaurant in the example above will have high chances that many people will open a channel with him (the restaurant), which makes it more probable that someone you have a channel with would have had a channel with the restaurant.
8142  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why isn't there an official bitcoin wallet? on: September 01, 2020, 11:35:29 PM
Bitcoin developers work on bitcoin core. Why don't they create an official bitcoin wallet as well? It will be exactly like bitcoin core, but without the blockchain. I always had that query.
You do not need to bother yourself about this, there are alternatives, there are decentralized spv versions with open source blockchain. There are also very good wallets like electrum. Electrum source code is an open one which is available on github, it is also a good wallet. Bitcoin and  bitcoin wallets are so decentralized than for you to be thinking of such wallets, as they actually existing. Try decentralized spv versions or wallets like electrum.
8143  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: About Bitcoin Lightning Network and transaction fee on: September 01, 2020, 08:49:15 PM
Which means the transactions fee will be very small.

Direct payments are feeless, but you still have to pay for the channel opening and closing fee.
This is also reason why LN is hardly popular, since you would pay more or about same if you rarely make transaction (less than 3 transaction within the LN channel duration).
I have a suggestion, I think lightning network is fine and can be used for small payments, like paying for foods and drinks you order daily at a restaurant or paying at coffee shop. For instance, you open a channel with the owner of the a food restaurant where you eat daily after work, you can decide to spend 0.0003 btc daily at the reestaurant. You can open a channel with the owner of the food raustarant with 0.03 btc aside the fee you will use to open the channel. You can use this to order for food for months, making use of the bitcoin lightinig at a very reduced/low fee. I think this is still fine.

But, lightning network wallet that someone will be able to customize (edit) the fee will be good for such purpose.

What I think people may still be afraid to use it is because of scamming, that it can be used to scam. Recently in the recent version of electrum, lightning network is supported, if all wallets are starting to support lightning network, then, more people will start to use it.

8144  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: After growing an account, what next? on: September 01, 2020, 03:36:23 PM
In my opinion, OP is right, this forum has been the best. I can get the OP is implying that no member can rank up on this forum without liking bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. We have to like bitcoin, read about it and learn more about it. In the process, we will be able to understand this forum more and be able to answer questions and also contribute with quality articles and comments. And the more the merits will be given, the more we will rank up.

Also about the issue of scam and scamming, that the forum do not restrict scammers to an extent, that this forum main focus is to know ways to protect members and people visiting the forum from scam. I do not believe any ranked member on this forum can be scammed because they know a lot about scam and how to avoid it.

Although, there are any other boards on this forum, but bitcoin boards are the most essential, also altcoins follows. If low rank members just take bitcoin with passion they will rank up

Learning about bitcoin with passion is a key to ranking up.

OP is right.

It will be good to code the link above.
Code:
https://www.w-rex.com/index_en.html (https://www.w-rex.com/index_en.html)
This is just a scam as scam can be. It will be good to neglect such links and glad you know that. The person may want to attack your bitcointalk account, or in one way or the other scam you.
8146  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to find Fake Giveaways or scam airdrops on Twitter? on: September 01, 2020, 11:31:52 AM

#fakegiveaways
#fakeairdrop

These two hastags will help you a lot to determine whether your giveaway or airdrop has been reported as fake or scam.
This can be of help but it may not help also, what if such giveaway is a scam but not yet reported, will those hashtags help in such time? I do not think so. The best thing to do is to stay away from these giveaways for not to be scammed one day. But, if you do not stay away, you have to be sensitive, and use a device not connected to your wallets, exchange accounts, bank accounts and the likes. Scammers are perfect to have scammed a lot of people before any report I guess.
8147  Economy / Services / Re: [OPEN] Bitamp Signature Campaign | Full Member & Hero/Legendary - $25-$50/Week on: September 01, 2020, 11:21:05 AM
Alright, something happened with the payouts and I've no idea what.. I've made thousands of these over the years and never seen something like this but it is what it is.

5 of you full members received double payment, and 6 other full members got nothing so the easy solution is: the 5 who got double payments won't get paid next week because sending it back and forth makes no sense, so I'll trust you to fulfill the requirement this week Smiley

As for those who didn't get paid, I'll get that sorted out today.
You are very right, I was surprised that I received two payments. I have it in mind now, that I am not expecting any payment next week. I will fulfill my task as best as possible as I can. I am happy that this kind of thing happened within us here, and everything will be fixed. Well done to my Campaign Manager, Hhampuz.

This forum helps a lot, it can also bring prosperity, I remember when I joined this forum, I knew nothing but nothing. This forum really opened my eyes very well, I am now more exposed and experienced. I am so happy to be part of this community. I am able to interact globally with people, is there anything more than that, I do not think so.

The forum really address about scam, many people nowadays are easily scammed, many have no knowledge about what can possibly be ensued during scammers malicious activities, but nobody can scam me. Why? Because of this forum. Bitcointalk really helped me, the latest scams and old ones are know here, and they are nothing new.

This forum truly can be someone's careful, the forum really exposed people. But aside that, also this forum is really helping in all aspect of life. It helps the way we talk to people, the way we reply to people and the likes also. In fact, I am more disciplined than before.

When I joined compared till now, I was able to communicate better than before, among family, friends and strangers around me. The best experience about my life so far is that I know this forum.

OP is very right and there are more about Bitcointalk.
8150  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: About Bitcoin Lightning Network and transaction fee on: August 31, 2020, 05:03:22 PM
BitCryptex, I get you rightly, that means after bitcoin with any input (high or low) is transferred to bitcoin lightlning network, and it is sent back to blockchain network, no need to consolidate again as the transaction input will be 1.

BitCryptex and bitmover, I really appreciate the opening and closing fees in bitcoin lightning network that you both commented about. I know more about bitcoin lightning network now.

8153  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Truth About Bitcoin's Green New Deal. on: August 31, 2020, 11:47:27 AM
That aside, I do not know the reason why people should be concerned about bitcoin consuming high amount of energy. What if the electricity generated is not used by people, that means the electricity production could collapse, they did not think about that. Normally, in countries where mining are legalized, money are collected for electricity usage which are used to pay people working in electricity (power) companies.

Bitcoin is valuable, the mining is used to generate digital valuable products which can be used for goods and services, which means the mining is not a waste of electricity. And if we look at the hydropower plants and solar plants, they are renewable power generation. Many countries really depend on hydropower plants in which the energy is renewable.

These is just a false claim. Mining has even really helped the power industry by indirectly generating more renewable power, and employing more workers. The problem is left to the countries to try to use the renewable resource to generate most of their electricity (power).
8154  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / About Bitcoin Lightning Network and transaction fee on: August 31, 2020, 11:28:36 AM
Assuming I have several inputs, and my transaction fee is very high. Later, I did not send bitcoin using the blockchain network, I opened a lighhtning network channel and transfer bitcoin using lightning network to my recipient. I believe no matter how high the inputs are, I will still be able to open a channel to transfer bitcoin to another person. Which means the transactions fee will be very small.

Assuming, I later close the channel, my bitcoin remaining is transferred back into my normal balance (bitcoin on blockchain) from the lightning channel. What will happen to the previous inputs. Will it still remain high as it was before I opened lightning network channel or would have reduced to zero (0)?

I did not do anything. It was just an assumption that led me to the question.
8155  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is the best way of storing and spending small amount of satoshis ? on: August 31, 2020, 10:45:32 AM
If several input is the problem you are having, you can try to consolidate. If you consolidate your high input, you will be able to send bitcoin with lower fee. To consolidate, generate new address on your wallet, send all your bitcoin to the new address, use fee control  by editing your fee to as low as 1 satoshi/byte. It may take time before the transactions will be confirmed on your device, but it will be confirmed. Then you will be able to send bitcoin with lower fee.

Try to read the quote below
Mods: I realize this isn't really a Technical Support question, but it's related to dozens of support request threads that have been made in the past, and it can potentially reduce support requests in the future. That's why I post it here.

Background
Whenever the Bitcoin network gets more congested, fees get higher and higher. Most wallets now use "dynamic fees", which means they start competing with each other for fast confirmations. This results is fees spiraling upwards. Not so long ago, more than 600 Satoshis/byte was needed to have any chance at a fast confirmation.
The result: this board filled up with topics like: "my transaction got stuck for 2 weeks, help me". At the moment, these topics don't exist, which is the reason I open this "opposite" topic.

Example
18 days ago, someone made this 4909 bytes transaction with 33 inputs and 510 Satoshis/byte fee. After paying fees, his 0.033BTC turned into only 0.0079539BTC. If he would make the same transaction now with 20 Satoshis/byte fee, he would have saved 0.024BTC. Instead of just 0.0079539BTC, he would have ended up with 4 times more!

Opportunity
Since about a week, fees are quite low again. For many months now, even transactions with 1 Satoshi/byte are likely to get confirmed within an hour.
If you've been collecting faucets in the past, you most likely have many inputs around 0.000xBTC. A few weeks ago, anything under 0.001BTC wasn't even enough to pay for the fee. If you set a very low fee now, you can consolidate inputs as low as just 2000 Satoshis (0.00002BTC).

It's good for everyone
If you make a big transaction with high fees when the network is congested, you take up a lot of scarce block space. This makes the congestion even worse.
By making a big transaction when the network isn't congested, you're prepared to be able to make a much smaller transaction once the network is congested again, without adding much to the congestion.

Consolidate small inputs
If you have many small inputs, now is the perfect time to consolidate them into one new input! If you're not in a hurry to get a confirmation, you can set a very low fee and just wait. Once it's confirmed, your funds can be send in a much smaller transaction, which means you'll safe a lot on fees if you want to make a transaction when fees are high again. If you have enough small inputs, you can safe up to 95% or more on fees!

How
Now the tricky part: it depends on your wallet! The easy way would be to just send your entire balance to a new address in your own wallet. Make sure to manually set the fee!
I prefer to "Enable coin control" in Bitcoin Core, you can do this in Electrum too. Select the inputs you want to use, and leave out very small dust inputs (say 0.00001BTC, it would still cost more in fees than it's worth). Then simply send all selected inputs to a new address of your own.
If you have many different inputs, I suggest to consolidate them in multiple steps. Don't create a 100,000 bytes transaction with 500 inputs, but instead create many transactions with 20-ish inputs.

If your wallet doesn't allow you to set your own fee, and/or to use coin control, you can export your private keys and import them into a wallet that does support it. This, however, is something to discuss in another topic.

Privacy
Consolidating your inputs links them together on the blockchain. This wouldn't be any different when you use the same funds in any other transaction, but you should consider this before doing it.

OP! If I have to share my experience here on the forum, this forum is good and they are not selfish to award you merits but there are certain things to put to consideration.

1. Check for posts that are merited, they are not just written, but professionally written. You have to know how to write out topics professionally.

2. Do not yet comment to threads to much so far you do not know about what to comment about, this is a time of research for you. Read about bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general. With time, you will be good.

3. Try to look for topics that are not existing on this forum, research about it, and form an article. Post it here, abide to corrections and learning process continues.

4. You need to read bitcoin and altcoin news, there are many information you can derived from there. Coindesk and cointelegraph are good examples.

5. Continue learning about bitcoin. You will need to read mastering bitcoin in the process, it will help a lot. And always feel free to ask questions about what you do not understand on the forum.

But like ddmrddmr commented, and according to your posting history, your posts are not bad, you should just take it easy on the go and continue posting good, you will eventually rank up.
8157  Other / Archival / Re: Finally Reached Member on: August 30, 2020, 07:39:54 AM
This is good, continue to make good posts, and with time you will rank up. But about giving junior member 2 merits only, it will be good if you just look for junior members posts yourself, they are not hard to find, then you can give posts that are worthy of your merit smerits.

Guys, we are becoming lazy day by day. Just spend your merits to the quality posts. Doesn't necessary to create merit giveaway thread with a small number of smerits where you have enough time to spend it. Don't me get wrong but I strongly discourage opening merit giveaway thread anymore. Once a time lots of reputed users opened merit giveaway thread including me, but it was beginning to introduce merit system. But now, all users know about it, so it's quite unnecessary. When you will read other user's posts you will get the quality post for sure.

If someone need rank up or think you deserve merits then please submit your post on this thread where multiple merit source watching: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5093271.0

Or, at least, be an established member before making such offer, and also having enough smerits to give.
8158  Other / Politics & Society / Re: [POLL] Is bitcointalk (still) very skeptical towards global warming science? on: August 29, 2020, 10:36:21 PM
The climate problem is just unrealistically massive, there's no way any one country will be able to solve it. Even if the US stopped all emissions, China and India will continue and their emissions will likely rise as well. Australian politicians have shown they don't care about how other countries look at them in terms of their climate policy and will continue to invest in coal power (as they're a massive exporter of coal and LNG). All Canada has managed to do is ruin would be prosperous oil and LNG pipeline deals and ban plastic straws, even though Canadian agricultural yields are projected to increase with GAST.
You get points and facts why global warming may still continue and difficult to reduce. In modern days, the world is even depending more on activities that increasing green houses gasses that can add to global warming. How about deforestation which is the major reasons that too much carbon can also be trapped in the atmosphere. The rate at which the world is tackling deforestation and encouraging afforestation is poor. The world governments need to cooperate in a way more trees are planted. And also if there are ways they can reduce green house gasses to certain required level, it will be helpful.
8159  Other / Politics & Society / Re: idiot police - jacob blake shooting on: August 29, 2020, 10:20:01 PM
With what I read about the incident, Jacob black opened his car door, but maybe the police was thinking Jacob would bring out harmful weapon, this led to the police shooting him 7 times on his back. This is cruel as the act of a wicked person can be, the police did not shoot him 1 or 2 times but 7 times, which means the police could had hidden agenda. To me, I can call it racism because the police is a white man. The police is wicked and should be jailed for such awful misdeed. I like the fact that the police has been identified.
8160  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Important Question about API Scam on: August 29, 2020, 04:29:53 PM
So, API scams are of different types. Which means it's somehow safe to connect social media account trough API but not fully safe. Account can easily get compromised and 2factor authentication can make account safe.
Also, there are some fake sites created like API just to steal accounts.
Thanks for all your response. Now I understand better.
Also about the use of 2fa, you are right, it helps protecting accounts, but for safety, it will be better to have the 2fa on another safe device other than the device you use to access the 2fa-eanbled-accounts.
