821  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: The wallet is not responding! on: July 11, 2023, 06:05:58 AM
-snip-
In your Bitcoin Core wallet: Menu -> Console, type
Don't forget to specify the wallet type when suggesting that command because it wont work in default wallet of the new versions.
The default wallet type "Descriptor wallet" doesn't support importprivkey.

Also, in the case of multiple imports, on the last private key, remove "false" rescan flag in order to tell Bitcoin Core to rescan the blockchain.

In your Electrum wallet: Wallet -> Private keys -> Export. To get your private key, choose CSV format for your export file.
He can't do this since the wallet is frozen (he said, "hung").
Instead, he can import the seed phrase on an air-gap Electrum so it wont try to sync (plus safety), then do your provided instructions there.

Or if there are only a couple of funded address(es), just go to 'Addresses' tab (View->Show Addresses) and export only the funded ones. (balance not displayed in the Air-gap Electrum)
Right-click and select "Private key" to get its private key.
822  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: The BTC/USD rate data source on: July 10, 2023, 09:38:03 AM
But now, I see the rate is not changing for the last 2 days at least. If I change the source to the Coinbase or Kraken, everything goes fine, the data changes dynamically. What could this be? The wallet version is 4.1.5
Electrum are querying the fiat price from those API/Exchanges using this code.
github.com/spesmilo/electrum/blob/master/electrum/exchange_rate.py#L273-L277
The sources are same in versions 4.4.5 and 4.1.5.

From it, Blockchain, Coinbase and Kraken's USD tickers are very close to each other and all of them periodically update (tickers used by Electrum):

I'm not sure what's causing the issue but if there's a connection error to the API, the fiat value would've been unavailable.
But if you check Blockchain.info's market price chart, it's quite stable within these past two days.
823  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin puzzle transaction ~32 BTC prize to who solves it on: July 10, 2023, 05:37:10 AM
Or maybe they can share us the hint how lucky they were (if it was luck) with the addresses with exposed PubKey or the maths formula/pattern they used. We are eagar to learn  Wink Also, maybe, there's a way to get the Pubkey of an address, maybe --> HAS160 (+ some codes) --> RPMID (+ maybe some codes) --> PubKey. I mean what could a harmless Pubkey do  Undecided
When they say "HASH160 of the Public Key" it means: RIPEMD160[SHA256(PubKey)]
Now to get from Address to Public key, you need to reverse RIPEMD160 first then SHA256.

If they found a way to do it, they wouldn't just claimed the puzzle reward, but exploit Bitcoin Mining to get constant block rewards.
Depending on the attack, they could also claim a couple of related bounties.
824  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Inquiry on: July 09, 2023, 02:18:18 PM

It's a Windows-specific issue, not totally related to the Electrum installer file.

It usually appears if the USB Flash Drive's file system isn't the standard FAT/FAT32.
But try to click "Yes" and it should be copied without issues.

If you want to check the file's integrity after copying it, verify its signature by following this guide: https://bitcoinelectrum.com/how-to-verify-your-electrum-download/
825  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Mobile Wallets Lightning Info on: July 09, 2023, 07:25:16 AM
So its ok to keep offline for longer periods of time if you have a channel with electrum?
This depends on your channel's remote node.
If they feel like closing the channel due to inactivity, they might force-close it.
It's out of Electrum client's control.

Try to open a channel with Electrum's trampoline node (when trampoline routing is enabled) and ask the owner to try to keep your channel open.
It's owned by the main Electrum developer: https://github.com/ecdsa
826  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Mobile Wallets Lightning Info on: July 09, 2023, 05:31:48 AM
Is it also effected when onchain fees are high? (Ex: Channel reserve gets triggered & closes channel).
Yes, you can see the "can send" amount in your channels tab which can fluctuate, influenced by the average on-chain fee rate.
But auto-close channel wont happen automatically unless you or the channel's other party triggered it.

What kind of lightning wallet is it? LND? Core? Or its own design?
It has its own implementation, each of your wallet is its own lightning node.
827  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: SPV (desktop) wallet which lets me verify blocks myself on: July 08, 2023, 05:47:37 AM
I know a pruned Bitcoin Core node would also be an option, but the problem isn't so much the 500 MB-few GB of storage of this option, but the time until I'd have synced the blockchain. I'm looking for a solution which would be there instantly, to be used flexibly, like a SPV wallet.
It's actually doable but it's not recommended since your client wont be verifying the downloaded blocks, so you'll need to trust the integrity of your pruned blockchain.
That's basically defeating the purpose of using a Bitcoin Node.

Download at your own risk:
There's a user in GitHub who is hosting pruned blockchain which you can directly load in your newly installed Bitcoin Core.
Here's the link: https://github.com/Blockchains-Download/Bitcoin/releases (file names have the wrong year in the name)
Just follow the provided instructions by the owner, specifically those for "local Bitcoin client".

The data seem legit since it starts without errors and continue to sync up to the tip but as mentioned, it's not verified by my Bitcoin Core.
Also, you can't load an existing wallet.dat file or import old keys with txns past the pruned blocks, you can only create new wallets.
828  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: The wallet is not responding! on: July 07, 2023, 07:40:31 AM
As long as you have the seed phrase, your funds are safe.
So, do you still have it? (don't post it anywhere and don't send it to anyone)
If everything goes wrong, you could just uninstall Electrum, clear the datadir and restore your wallet using that seed phrase.

Perhaps there's something wrong done during the upgrade like the client still running in the background while the update is installing.
Or your device/PC cannot handle those 3000 transactions since Electrum isn't designed to hodl huge amount of transactions.

Please provide a screenshot of the issue since the error isn't common.
Also mention your system's specs.

But (as a heads-up) you'll encounter a big problem when spending those transactions: the fee for spending a lot of inputs.
Since you got 3000 transaction, you can't spend those in one go (max of 100,000vB) and each of your outbound transaction would cost a lot of fee for having a large vsize.
829  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Need help with 2fa wallet. on: July 07, 2023, 06:58:05 AM
You can get your master private key and gain access to the fund. Just note that you need to use the desktop version of electrum.
-snip-
The shortcut to getting the master public key is by simply using the command: getmasterprivate()
After using the command, he'll be asked to type his password if the wallet is encrypted.

@Semeliranda
Since you're using the Android version which doesn't have access to the console, find a way to gain access to a secure desktop version.
But since you don't know the seed phrase, it'll be troublesome to create a copy of your wallet there without it.
The android version used to have an option to backup the wallet file that can be imported to the desktop version, but it appears to be removed in the new GUI.

Anyways, in the desktop version: To enable the console tab where the commands should be entered, tick "View->Show Console".

Okay, so that how it works.
Honestly, the GUI for the "limit search space" is hard to navigate and understand compared to using commands.

Although it can't be used by OP due to his recent reply,
I'd keep a bookmark of this in case I need to recommend your tool to other users with the same problems.
831  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: wallet.dat corrupted or encrypted help!!! on: July 06, 2023, 06:16:38 AM
-snip- the folders what i have 2 folders 1 with only wallet.dat file 188mb is modified @ 2019,
Was your brother an owner of an exchange or something?
Because that wallet.dat has a file size comparable to a typical exchange hot wallet. It's usually just a few kB or MB in size.

If it doesn't contain a lot of transactions, it could be an altcoin wallet or just pure garbage/corrupted data (like seen in the screenshot).
832  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: BIP39 mnemonic phrase. on: July 06, 2023, 05:50:13 AM
Folks, don't waste your time with OP
You mean "icynote_original" right?
Not actually the OP.

Aside from his frequent questionable technical support questions,
his latest posts are mostly plagiarism so he'll be nuked/banned in no time.
833  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Why creating Vanity Segwit address is easier than Legacy address? on: July 05, 2023, 08:03:19 AM
Does it mean creating Vanity Legacy and Nested Segwit address is 14.26 times harder than Vanity Native Segwit address? And why?
It has something to do with number of possible combinations.
Since Legacy and Nested-SegWit both are encoded with BASE58 which has 58 possible characters, the total number of combinations will be bigger than bech32 (BASE32).

Additionally,
In your test, you've used 5 character prefix in Legacy and 6 characters in Nested-SegWit,
if you used the same number of characters, the latter will be less difficult with 264104224 difficulty due to the limited range of the first few character in the prefix.

When it comes with speed, notice that Nested-SegWit keys-per-second is a lot slower than legacy or native SegWit?
That's because it has to go through HASH160 "SHA256(RIPEMD160)" twice which is quite slow to compute; the other two only use it once.
Then bech32 has the fastest speed (a little faster than legacy) because bech32's checksum (bip-0173) doesn't use double SHA256 which makes it faster to compute.
834  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Receiving and sending lightning payments from the command line on: July 05, 2023, 05:46:27 AM
-snip-
Unfortunately, as OP mentioned, lnpay currently doesn't take an amount arg.
As you can see in commands.py->line1138, it only takes an "invoice" arg so the recipient has to add a 'requested amount' to his invoice for it to work in lnpay.

The "amount" in line 1115 that you've linked is under the command open_channel.

@SlackBitcoiner
Is trivial to add that feature so if you really need it, I'd suggest you to open a new "feature request" issue in GitHub.
Developers may find it necessary since the implementation of no-amount invoice made the command unusable in this kind of scenario.
835  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: ACINQ lightning payment TRAMPOLINE_FEE_INSUFFICIENT on: July 05, 2023, 05:25:43 AM
Any help from the devs?
Are you the owner of issue #8297?
The developers are mostly active in GitHub so it's best to just continue the conversation with the developer there.

If you're not the owner of that issue and you meant your using "ACINQ trampoline node",
then there's little the developers can do since they don't own that trampoline node.

This is quite the downgrade but, the way to prevent that issue is to opt-out on using trampoline routing and open a channel to a well-connected lightning node.
You can disable the setting in "Tools->Preferences->Lightning->Use trampoline routing".
Upon disabling the setting, you'll receive a note concerning the disadvantage of not using trampoline routing but it's mostly during the first few minutes when you start Electrum. (in every restart)
Refer to the lightning icon to see your current connection to the lightning network.
836  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Private key of BTC wallet on: July 04, 2023, 01:46:19 PM
The issue is, I don't know any private key bruteforcing tool that does that so you might have to search for one yourself of find someone to code it for you.
The feature to limit search space when recovering Base58 inputs was added to FinderOuter in version 0.15.0.
Could you please tell me more about it? I am not a computer geek.
Coding Enthusiast's reply is based from my suggestion to limit the search space of each position;
however, given your reply above that you can't see anything, my suggestion won't be feasible anymore.

Moreover, the current version of finder-outer do not have that specific option as you can see in my reply to that post (#13).
837  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Butcoin locking on: July 04, 2023, 11:39:07 AM
The issue is how will he or his family take it by then? Can they keep the private key safe for 125 years without losing it? :/ that's the second issue after the timelock the redeemers
You need to specify the exact procedure on how to spend the locked funds.
If you just sent them private keys, they will likely import or sweep it to a wallet and restore the standard scripts a.k.a 'legacy', 'nested-SegWit', 'native SegWit' or 'TapRoot' address.
Those wont restore the correct address; normal sweep wont find the associated unspent transaction.

But there are issues:
The main issue is the current support for such script which is limited,
AFAIK, it's the only wallet that I know where you can spend it, there's no other option aside from manually building the transaction.
So you're stuck with that option for now and just update the provided procedure if a future wallet or existing wallet's new version adopts importation of such script.

Another slight issue is coinb.in server availability since without it, the claimers will have to manually input the correct data to spend it.
Spending it using "Load" (Redeem Script) may be working for now and actually simple but you'll never know what will happen during the time your bitcoins are locked up.
So the steps provided should be thorough with a link to its source code (and a backup of it online/physical),
the buttons to click, the data that should be inputted on the right positions, what will do if "x" doesn't work anymore, etc.
838  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bitcoin Has A Lower Value In Binance on: July 04, 2023, 04:28:53 AM

So this is the issue, your app isn't "Binance" but "Binance US" which is different from each other and has separate regulations.
The sub-$31,000 price that others have shown you and the one you're seeing in the web are for Binance.

For more info, you can Google Search the term "is binance us and binance the same".
There are countless articles about it in the search results.
839  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bitcoin Has A Lower Value In Binance on: July 04, 2023, 04:19:28 AM

Your "favorites" looks familiar but it's different from the version installed in my phone, version 2.66.5.

Are you sure you're using the correct app and not a fake clone based from the old version?
Can you give a link to the app that you've downloaded and tell the version that it shows in "Settings->About Us".
840  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: [List] Wallet Software Discussion on: July 03, 2023, 03:21:58 PM
I don't get it: why do you link bitcoin.org as the source for Bitcoin Core, when the native site for Bitcoin Core is only https://bitcoincore.org. The Core devs have no access whatsoever to bitcoin.org which is merely a bad mirror of bitcoincore.org.
Actually, Devs have/had access to it but they moved the hosting of the release binaries to bitcoincore.org
in their effort to separate the "Bitcoin" from the "Software".
(prob. for better decentralization)

But yes, OP is wrong to link Bitcoin Core to bitcoin.org since they've stopped releasing new releases there since version 22.0.
