821  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Possible to Mine Bitcoins Using Desktop? on: February 18, 2017, 04:53:17 AM
You need a special hardware like Asic Miner to mine using Bitcoin. Mining Bitcoin using a desktop computer is profitable only during the days when Bitcoin started. But If you insist to mine using a desktop computer for 24 hours , 7days a week, you will earn for as low as $0.03 per month. So its a total waste of time.
But this is still possible if you mine newly hatched coins, then later on trade this coins to Bitcoin.

0.03$ per month is a little bit hyperbolic statement. If a Desktop has a good GPU like latest GTX series, it is possible have profit that exceeds on what you are expected, But the main disadvantage is the GPU is to expensive and almost same price to Ant Miner, So in typical condition, Miners bought Asic miner instead for Expensive GPU. I say this because i mine on my gaming desktop and have some profit. But that is not frequent i just setup my computer if I'm done playing on it.

It would cost you an infinite sum of bitcoins, as the address 1MintCtNesdc8EiJ2D1sKs75EUYPABD3LX has an invalid checksum, meaning it can never be a valid bitcoin address. There is no private key that belongs to that address.

Even if it is an valid address, it's almost impossible to vanitygen an entire address, as the chance is extremely extremely extremely extremely extremely extremely low to find an exact match. Why do you even want to random string of characters (I assume)?

You can get 1Mint for free, if that's all you want. I can do it right now for you or you can wait for Loyce to come online.

825  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [1423GH] ABCPool PPS - Shut down on: September 12, 2013, 11:48:27 AM
Hi guys,

On 2013-07-31 we announced the imminent shutdown of the ABCPool getwork servers because the costs have become unbearable in the face of dwindling interest. For those who did not have automatic payout enabled, we allowed for an extra month to withdraw any leftover earnings. Today, almost two weeks after this deadline, we have shut down the remaining parts of ABCPool, leaving only the public part of the website for historical purposes.

Our database and payment engine have been brought offline too, so we can no longer accept any new requests for withdrawals. We will however manually handle the three requests currently still in progress.

Thanks for the ride everybody,
MC & Chlorine, signing off.

NEWS: Withdrawals will be free until server shutdown. The fees have been set to BTC 0.00 for everyone, no matter how small the balance. Enjoy!

Hi, I am unable to withdraw my bitcoins from the site. The request seems to timeout and nothing gets withdrawn.
Hi Lotus,

Please try again, or turn on autopay. We are consolidating servers in order to shut most of them down, that might cause these timeouts/delays

(Copied from main thread)

Dear miners,

The journey is coming to an end.

When ABCPool started out in 2011, we became the first share reseller of our kind. ABCPool pioneered the idea of converting the contract for a share from variable-reward to fixed-reward and reselling it like that.

The idea proved successful, miners liked the low risk and low fees which caused ABCPool to quickly grow to a significant share of the mining market.
Bitcoin is still in its infancy, and is evolving quickly. With the arrival of Stratum mining, part of the underlying technology for ABCPool became obsolete. As we expected, pool hash rate has been dwindling ever since.

After two years, we are now at the point that ABCPool in its current incarnation has to close its doors. The newly arrived FPGA and ASIC miners have diluted turnaround per GHash, and are pushing networking costs up. Hosting costs have become too high to justify keeping the service available, even if we’d increase fees.

We’d like to thank everyone who mined with us throughout the years, and everyone who has contributed their feedback on our forum. You guys made running the pool a great experience, thank you for that!

This Monday (August 5 2013) we will be shutting down the getwork server. Our website will stay up all through august for people to withdraw any leftover earnings. Any balances remaining after that will be treated as donations to cover the losses of the past months. We have also updated our Terms of Service.

It’s not unthinkable that ABCPool will be making a comeback in some other form. Don’t hold your breath, but do send us a PM if you’d like to be kept in the loop.

As always, Happy Hashing,

Chlorine & MintCondition

want to know where can i check if block solved? thanks
Hi Cale,

We offer our users PPS rewards to provide them with a more steady income. To do this, we source the work from various other pools to decrease our own risks of not finding a block. We don't provide a list of solved blocks, because other pools will already report the blocks found by our users.

Hope this clarifies things for you,
MC

Payment Bitcoin daemon is temporarily down. This is usually because it is restarting. Check again in a few minutes. If the problem persists, contact us.

has been like this for about 1 hour
Hi guys,

The internal harddisk of the main production instance died while making a backup. It only contained non-vital data, so balances and wallets are safe. We are now rebuilding the contents. This may take a while, as the blockchain will have to be re-downloaded.

Sorry for the inconvenience,
MC
834  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Coins not transfering from ABCPool.co on: April 03, 2013, 03:03:52 PM
Thanks.  I don't know if they were super fast in reading that but I FINALLY got my first confirmation on that transaction.  Probably not anything they did though because I didn't even give my account name from ABCPool or my Bitcoin Address.  That's a relief though... I've NEVER had a transaction take this long to get a single confirmation.  It's been about an hour and a half at this point just to get a single confirmation.
Hi iLikeCoins,

Glad to hear it worked out fine.

The majority of transactions are known throughout the network immediately, and also quickly included in a block. Sometimes it takes a bit longer. Bitcoin clients actively re-broadcast transactions that have not had any confirmations, so the situation will resolve itself eventually. If a day has passed and still nothing is showing up, it's time to take action.

regards,
MC

Dear miners,

we have suspended all payouts temporarily for at least the next 24 hours, while the situation around the blockchain fork completely stabilizes.

See https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=152030.msg1613197#msg1613197 for more details.

Thank you for your understanding.

Kind regards,
MintCondition

Payments still locked 3 days later and share counts are not changing.

I have blacklisted this pool on my machines.

While we suspended the payouts, we decided to also perform an upgrade. Unfortunately this took a little longer than expected. Payouts will be enabled within 12 hours.

Our apologies for the inconvenience.

Chlorine.

Why are shares not being counted?  My payout did not change for 24 hours.
When we finish the upgrades, the scripts will run again and any uncounted shares will be counted.

Hi,
Not criticizing, just trying to find a GOOD pool before my ASICs are delivered.
Trying to do it in the most logical way, by running a reasonably slow miner and taking a look at the results.
It's always good to do some research, and to ask some critical questions.

Cheers

from https://www.btcguild.com/variable_difficulty.php

Quote
When mining at a higher difficulty, when your shares are accepted, they will show up on your 'My Account'/'Earnings History' stats as multiple shares. This is because PPS rates are set at Difficulty of 1+ shares. When submitting a Difficulty 8+ share, each submission will show up as 8 shares on your statistics.

Rest assured btcguild is not paying out 8 times what they earn themselves, they would go bankrupt before you can blink. Their way of explaining it is somewhat ambiguous, but what they seem to mean is:
* When they give a diff 8 work packet to you, they will add 8 shares to your stats if you reply with a share that indeed has a difficulty of 8 or more.
* When they give a diff 1 work packet to you, they will add 1 shares to your stats if you reply with a share that indeed has a difficulty of 1 or more.
* And therefore: When they give an 1+ work packet to you, they will add 1 shares to your stats, even if you reply with a share of difficulty 8 or more.

In any case, a pool (PPS, DGM, Proportional, any pool actually) asks for a share that has at least a certain quality (ie diff 1, diff 8, diff n, ...). If it meets the specs, it gets counted according to the specs, and if it doesn't, it won't. If it does more than meet the spec, it will still only get counted at the level of the specs. There's one rarely seen exception (usually promotional): certain pools reward block-finding-shares extra, taking that reward from the non-block-finding shares, but that just makes their rewards a little bit more like solo mining: normal shares get less AND variability increases.

[...] why do they only kick up during a block change, is the loading different?
After a block change a lot of work is suddenly needed, as all long polls trigger at once. Immediately after that, every mining client will request another work item to fill its cache. This means that a load equivalent of 20 seconds is now concentrated in one moment. We are working on a big overhaul of the pool software to make this more efficient.
Also just one more question:
2012-12-13 12:22:06.047 [250] XUPV5-LX110T_2: abcpool_XUPV5-LX110T accepted share 80773f8c (difficulty 17.05233)
2012-12-13 12:22:07.021 [250] XUPV5-LX110T_2: abcpool_XUPV5-LX110T accepted share d31bdb97 (difficulty 1.29580)

how are the previous two "paid" are they counted as
2 shares,  or as 18 ?
Since the "difficulty 17" takes way longer to solve.
The payout for a share depends on the difficulty requested by the pool, and currently ABCPool always requests difficulty 1 (though this is about to change).

Usually you will generate a share with a difficulty higher than the diff requested. Pools could pay you more for such shares, but that goes against the very idea of pooled mining. With pooled mining the goal is to reward everyone for their efforts, not for their individual results. By paying a fixed amount per share (PPS), regardless of achieved difficulty, miners can be sure to receive the most stable payouts possible. That's because calculating a share of difficulty >1 takes a certain amount of effort, regardless of the actual difficulty that's achieved.

To put it more intuitively with an extreme example: You wouldn't expect 25BTC reward for a block solving share, because it would mean there is no (or significantly less) coin left to divide among the less powerful shares, and the reward scheme will start to look a lot like solo mining.

Regards,
MC

Hi Hardcore-fs,

At the moment you took these logs, the system ran in degraded mode as one of the servers had crashed yesterday; that explains an elevated error level. All servers are up again currently.

More to the point of your post, we return a 'submission failure' for stale shares. Even though that makes it seem they are not paid, they do get counted on your stats page. We return a failure code to allow people to tweak their mining configuration based on these shares, in the same way they would at other pools.

So in short: your miner reports stale shares as failures, but we still pay them, as long as they arrive within a certain time of us finishing triggering all longpollers.

Hope this helps,
MC
