Hi,

What's the power requirements to power a Sierra unit? i.e. 10 or 15amp power from wall? or uses ATX PSU?

Thanks,
 QG

Simon has told me to expect a 1500W draw at the wall assuming maximum OC with a safety margin.

and yes, it will run with a std ATX PSU.

That isn't the case here.  Did the read the blog post?  Toward the end it also says, "The Raspberry Pi’s Ethernet port and 2 USB ports are available on the back panel of the Baby Jet for you to connect to." So there was no confusion between 'Serial' and 'USB'.

Yes, I've read the blog post. Baby Jet may have maximum two mini-boards, each connected through one of the two available USB ports on the R. Pi. Simple solution, battle-tested tested through MiniPeon project and perfectly clear.

It doesn't say anything of the sort in that blog post it says the USB ports are free.  You're missing the point.  My issue is the lack of clear and accurate information.  We can infer it's USB now from the postings in this forum but what's so difficult about writing a concise overview of how it is all going to work? What about releasing a diagram of the mounting hole spacing for the 'mini-board' and what kind of mounting assembly will be required if we want to try alternative cooling options.

give me a break.

i've never once seen Sam or Marcus on the KNC thread.

I don't know I haven't read the KNC threads.  Don't you keep saying how HF wants to foster a community around their GN chip.  I don't understand how they expect that to happen.  If you want to compare to KNC they have, for example, specifications of what kind of power supply you need to run their miners and actual photos of devices showing connectors on their company website.  But I don't care what KNC is doing I didn't buy a miner from them.

posting hole spacing on the module is the last thing they have time for.  they're scrambling to just get you the units on time.  then you may not feel a need to use an alternative.  at that point, if you think you can do it better, then would be the time for you to innovate/improve.  not now.

you're dead in the water given HashFast pricing.

paid shill notwithstanding, let's see how it all rolls out shall we?
First batch babyjets $5,600 @ 400Gh suppose to ship in 10 days right?

Do you think any of those customers will be able to sell them for more when they get them?

Even with my higher saturn to jupiter upgrade pricing (plus shipping), I paid $7,466 for 520 Gh   (stable, I posted a hundred times proof already)

So I got my miner 11 days earlier than the first babyjet is suppose to deliver and I paid just 35 cents more per Gh for that headstart.

$14.35 vs $14 of the babyjet  ($5,600 / 400 )  that's without shipping since I have no idea what that would be

you're assuming of course that HF won't surprise to the upside in hashrate as well.

from what i'm hearing 500 GH/s should be easy and more altho we'll have to see.

like i said before, i'm not being paid anymore.

as far as selling BJ's, i don't think anyone will want to as i doubt HF will have all the same problems that KNC is having.  i've already verified that the HF shipping packaging will be far superior to what i've seen for the KNC's.  the problem with KNC's packaging is that they skimped on the internal foam encasing blocks leaving a gaping 12.5 inches unsupported and unprotected central exposure to the unit.  even Avalon did it better; they only left 5.5 inches of exposure.

What's the going price for a KNC Juipter in hand ?

you selling or buying?

Considering selling.

shouldnt have a problem getting your money back..  put up a quick auction and location since people probably want to know how soon they can get it

Doesn't look like the expensive miners are selling on ebay...  might have to list it on the forum?   I'd prolly take face value right now.

right now the value feels LIKE A SLAP IN THE FACE.......

you're dead in the water given HashFast pricing.

HF is the way to go.

we have no way to tell if Cointerra is even going to tape out. they're late already.

Thanks a lot on the HF vocabulary and semiconductor lessons.

Who is doing your board assembly?

like i said.  they don't have to tell you squat.  just like all the other asic companies didn't.
Quote

Or will you not tell us because you know you're going to be late?

you don't know that.  and what if they are a bit late?  how out of the ordinary would that be given every other asic company's lateness?
Quote

HF may as well eat their shoes and ship the BJ's with two modules already in there.  Will save a good deal on shipping for HF and may save the company's image.

Translation:  "Gimme freebies b/c i deserve and am entitled to it.  and i want them now.  if you don't give me what i want, i'm gonna keep smearing your image for no good reason."
8212  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast announces specs for new ASIC: 400GH/s on: October 10, 2013, 03:54:54 AM
So it remains to be seen how much Hashfast will sell their Sierra chassis for then?  Or would be able to buy empty babyjets to put the modules in as well?

you won't need to buy them from HF if you don't want to.  the Sierra chassis is just a std rackmount and the BJ is a std desktop.
8213  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast announces specs for new ASIC: 400GH/s on: October 10, 2013, 03:34:09 AM
Yes, each module is a PCB board, with amongst other things, a GN chip, a VRM, usb port, power connectors, mounts for the water cooler, etc.

Amy,

Does that mean than if the Miner protection program kicks in we'd be given modules?  or is that deal still for GN "chips" and nothing else?  As shipping day approaches it would be nice to have some clarity on the exact form everything will be taking.  I had been planning to sell of my USB hubs used with my Block Erupter ASIC miners but if I might end up needing them it would be good to know.  These sorts of things would be good topics for blog posts in the very near future.

hang on to them.

if you notice carefully, when the MPP kicks in you're going to get 4 free chips for every chip bought.  1 will go into your BJ to fill the 2nd slot.  the other 3 can conveniently be mounted inside a Sierra box.  the Sierras won't have their own controller; you'll need to purchase one.  the good news is that one controller can run multiple Sierra's (dozens?) and will be connected to them via USB cords going to one USB hub.
8214  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast announces specs for new ASIC: 400GH/s on: October 09, 2013, 09:12:39 PM
KNC didn't win anything.  remember they started their company months earlier than HF and are just delivering product now which is a bit late.

HF may also be a week late but what do you expect?  if they can deliver by 1st week Nov, given the superior tech and MPP, I am more than happy to be a HF customer and prefer their odds of dominance in the long run.

something that hasn't been stressed enough is that the HF "module" that contains a pre-mounted chip is the only proprietary piece in a BJ or Sierra.  the module is it's own motherboard.  there is no separate pcb needed.  everything else, case, cooler, psu, RaspPi, fans, is OEM.

unlike KNC which has a proprietary casing and controller.

you buy a bunch of modules and you could start your own distribution business.

So then whats the point on writing this on the babyjet description ?

The Baby Jet motherboard has room for an additional GN chip module.**

I suposse that by that time HF already knows that they are going to work with independet modules and not a limited motherboard. I really think that they just did this to get the customers into the "upgrade kit".

not sure what you mean.

the upgrade kit (module, cooler, and psu) was for those who want to maximally utilize the BJ's capability to insert a 2nd module NOW.  if you choose to wait instead for the MPP, you still will insert a 2nd module into the open slot 3 mo from delivery.  but then you'll have to buy an extra cooler and upgrade the psu yourself.

Read the red text.  Note lack of coherency.

If "the Baby Jet motherboard has room for an additional GN chip module," and "the module is it's [sic] own motherboard", as you've pointed out, then WTF are we talking about???  Infinite recursion?

ah, i see the inconsistency.  thank you crumbs for clarifying things for once.

i'll get them to rectify that on the website.

Are the boards and cases sourced already for the chips to be assembled into?

Yes.

To be more verbose...

Similar to what we did with Uniquify, we have been working extremely closely with both the board manufacturer / assembly house, and with the company that will be assembling the finished Baby Jets and Sierras. We are in daily, often hourly contact with them.

I'll request pix.

Not that we don't believe you about having already sourced the boards and cases.  Can you divulge who is providing these services for you?  Who is doing your board manufacturing?  Who is doing your board assembly?  Who is doing your system integration.

Seems to me like you won't hit October, as promised.

they can't divulge that stuff.  you should know better.  what good would it do giving it to some random internet guy who could actually be a competitor.

you're right in that delivery is going to be close.  but even KNC was/is late.
8218  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast announces specs for new ASIC: 400GH/s on: October 09, 2013, 05:04:09 PM
And 247/128 is approximately 1/2 for those of you that can't do math...
Actually, it's around 2. Anyway, is there a table describing these steps out there? I suppose them to be on time, and that the second half of the steps is faster to go trough than the first half.

there is a great chart out there called a Waterfall.  i've seen several versions of it as it's been updated routinely by TSMC.

i've tried to get them to show it to you guys but apparently there's something proprietary about it.  if you saw it, it'd knock your socks off as it relates to the competition.
8219  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast announces specs for new ASIC: 400GH/s on: October 09, 2013, 04:58:08 PM
remember we are dealing with a TSMC rocket launch which is the best in the industry.

if they can't get it done, no one can.

Thanks, Amy.  I feel smarter already.
@Cypherdoc:  I take it you're still on the payroll?

no i am not.

i just believe i'm in the right camp for the long run.
