Sri Lanka indeed needs some psychological therapy. I am looking at their recent stats for both ODI and test in espncricinfo. And this is what I found:
2 test with Ozs: 2 - 0 whitewash
Only T20 with NZ: Lost
3 ODI with NZ: Lost 3 - 0 whitewash
2 test with NZ: 2 - 0 whitewash
This team seriously needs some psychological attention.
I do agree that they need to do something about this. but they fought well in NZ's tour in pieces (Test-ODI) before losing. the more disappointing result was against England at their own home soil. They need to improve their domestic cricket. its one of the worst when compared with other teams. they are not producing good player because of this and financial condition of Board not helping at all. I will retract my statement if you can or anyone can provide me his only 10 match winning innings on Seaming track ( not flat pitch) where he won the match or at least set the winning tone for Team India. One day match and Test Match only. I only remember his one inning which he played in Dharamshala against Srilanka on losing cause. England and India are the in form team for the past few years and they have a well rounded team with top players in their playing eleven, England does have a deep batting line up and they have the advantage of playing in their home town which makes things easier for them, but i am not sure about the groups both teams are in.
No group this time if I am not wrong, every team will play a total 9 matches against each team and top 4 teams will qualify for semis. I am not sure how they can be the underdog without Warner and Smith, if they are in the team they could have the potential to become the underdog.
Warner-Smith in or out doesn't matter. this team basically fighting for their pride. they lost all legacy-credibility in last one year due to Ball-tampering saga. I agree that they are doing very bad atm but still, we have almost 3-4 months in the world cup. Champions trophy final was just a bad day for india. I considered it as fluke by pakistan with no disrespect. My favs is england and after that india. It's another debate that bowling quality level and batting mindset changed drastically in world cricket. Or should I say going down. Indian bowling unit doing opposite.
We should not compare previous generation with current generation of players. There was the time when every batsman used to be technical sound no matter be it red ball or white ball . ball moving or not. But now I don't see any technical sound batsman in world cricket. Except handful players.
If english pitches gets flat in this world cup then india is ahead of every team by miles due to gun batting lineup and tested quality bowlers. Otherwise I have my doubts.
