Did you actually ever tried cutting stainless steel metal?
Of course Smiley And indeed with a 1 mm INOX cutting disk (as mentioned in your video). It cuts through steel like a warm knife through butter.

Quote
Most people would create very sharp edges
Cleaning the edges is indeed more work than the actual cutting.

begging for blood from fingers
The real danger is when a cutting disk breaks and spreads high velocity fragments:

My alternative to washers: cut out a polygon from a sheet of metal (metal and thickness of your choice).  For example, a hexagon (I assume that a hexagon will be quite enough). The number of polygons will depend on the degree of your laziness, because you have to cut it yourself.  Wink Then drill a hole in the center. You will get a low-poly analogue of a washer. Using a hand-held power tool (drill, dremel), there should be no problems with making. I hope LoyceV will approve my proposal with an idea old-fashioned DIY woodworking metall.
Why a hexagon, and not just squares? Even easier: don't cut at all, just take some sheet metal, and start hammering:
01 ABANDON
02 ABILITY
.......
24 ABLE
Then fold the metal, and store it. No need to drill and use a bolt.

cutting metal is not very easy to do especially stainless steel, and will most likely result is cutting accidents and spilled blood, if not done correctly.
Cutting it is easy, making it look good is the difficult part Wink
8383  Other / Meta / Re: A question about reposting my own content on: March 22, 2022, 05:36:37 PM
Is it allowed for me for post several weeks-old messages from my mailing list to the forum?
I don't see a problem with it, and I don't even think quote tags are required. You could start (or end) with "previously posted on NotATether.com's mailing list", but that might make it look more like spam than without the link.
8384  Other / Meta / Re: Why I love Bitcointalk! on: March 22, 2022, 05:00:41 PM
A post can be well constructed and quality of about 500 characters, but if the purpose does not fit, it is a spam.
If you can say something shortly, making the post longer makes it a shitpost. Making it longer is actually worse, because it takes the reader more time to realize he should ignore the user.
My stance:
If you can post a constructive post in 12 words, you don't need to make it longer.

Example of a short post.

gonna test ProtonVPN "Plus" plan which fits my needs.
I can't agree with ProntonVPN's Terms:
Quote
You specifically agree not to use this Service for:
~
Harassing, abusing, insulting, harming, defaming, slandering, disparaging, intimidating, or discriminating based on gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, race, age, national origin, or disability
So they don't log anything, but they restrict freedom of speech by telling me I can't tell you you're a dick? I'm insulted by the fact that they think insults have to be regulated.

On the one hand they say this:
Quote
You specifically agree not to use this Service for:

Promoting illegal activities
But on the other hand they say this:
Quote
We created ProtonVPN to protect the journalists and activists who use ProtonMail.
So which one is it? If a shady government bans something that threatens them, that means an activist won't be allowed to use ProtonVPN to promote overthrowing that government.

some vpn's even have special lifetime plan deals sometimes.
Getting some deal like that for Mullvad vpn would be great.
Somehow I never trust "lifetime plans". Let's call it experience Wink
I think Mullvad if honest in their pricing:
Quote
With a sustainable payment model, we can invest in quality development and bandwidth. No €1/month rate or lifetime membership could ever support that.
You can get a lifetime plan though: say you plan to live 50 more years, that cost you 0.07 Bitcoin Wink
8387  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Did I mess up my Chipmixer transaction? on: March 22, 2022, 09:54:16 AM
Honestly, I find trusted users on this forum to be the best source of reliable info.
What if a malicious Tor exit nodes does the SSL stripping thing on Bitcointalk (or just on all websites), and replaces websiteA.onion by websiteB.onion? Wouldn't that make it impossible to trust anything on any clearnet site you visit using the Tor browser?
8388  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: List of all Bitcoin addresses with a balance on: March 22, 2022, 09:49:48 AM
This project has already used up 1.5 out of it's 2 TB bandwidth for this month. To prevent the server from being suspended, I've scheduled to take down the Apache webserver in 5 days. I'll restart it on April 1st.
The above post opened a new door: an anonymous Bitcointalk reader donated a dedicated server for this project! That means lots of storage (1 TB), lots of bandwidth (50 TB/month), and potentially more than once a day updates by parsing the Bitcoin blockchain instead of getting data from Blockchair.com!
I'm still setting it up now.
8389  Economy / Reputation / Re: Trust abuse on: March 22, 2022, 09:34:57 AM
From what I can see six of those seven are only DT2 because one DT1 user has voted all of them in
That user has no "Untrusted feedback" at all, because he's Selfscratching anyone who left him positive feedback. That's one of the reasons why I said the Collectibles board has a different interpretation of the Trust system than the rest of the forum.
If I'd do the same, my green Trust score would almost double. But I like being Switzerland more.
I checked the data a long time ago: requiring 2 DT1-inclusions to reach DT2 would reduce the number of users on DT2 by about 50%. I'm still in favour of such a change.
8390  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Did I mess up my Chipmixer transaction? on: March 22, 2022, 09:21:10 AM
I'm new to tor, btc and chipmixer
I'm curious: how did you decide you needed to mix your Bitcoin? When I started with Bitcoin, I first tried a few different wallets and made transactions. Those were also the days when faucets could still get you a small transaction quickly. But I didn't even know mixing existed back then, so that brings me to my curiousity. As far as I know most new Bitcoin users don't really understand how transactions are linked, and if you don't know that, you can't know when you need a mixer.

I wish I had used Tor from the start though. Once your privacy is gone, you can't get it back.

The truth is, I don't even know where it is I should look for reliable and current info.
Rule of thumb: when in doubt: don't do it!
Especially on Tor it's really difficult to find reliable information. Clearnet sites are easier, but when using Tor some (or many!) Tor exit nodes can change addresses for non-onion sites so you can't trust clearnet via Tor either:
3. Malicious Tor Exit node serves website over clear text (SSL stripping) and switches deposit address to their

8391  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Securing Your Seed Phrase with Washers on: March 22, 2022, 09:00:40 AM
Sorry, I meant creating the tool with a laser cutter. Smiley A small 30W laser cutter should be available for around $200, so it might even be cheaper than buying a 3D printer. But of course you can only do plywood cutting and cardboard with those weak diode lasers.
But why? Why would you use a laser cutter for plywood, and not a drill, chisel or jigsaw? What happened to old-fashioned DIY woodworking?

How about using washers from another metal? Softer, for example, aluminum. This metal is not subject to corrosion due to the oxide film, which is quite resistant to weathering. The melting point is also not very low. But the main advantage is ease and pliability in processing.
Or both: one steel and one aluminum backup, so you get the benefits from both materials while mitigating the drawbacks.
8392  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Securing Your Seed Phrase with Washers on: March 21, 2022, 06:43:23 PM
~ cheap ~ to manufacture ~ is laser-cutting.
I can think of great ways to store seed phrases in steel plates with laser cutting, but I wouldn't assume it's cheap.
Example:

I could also think of a very nice storage design if you happen to have a CNC cutting machine. But even if you have access to very cool hardware, it brings the problem of wiping it's memory. That makes a pen or letter punch is much safer by default.
8393  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Did I mess up my Chipmixer transaction? on: March 21, 2022, 06:22:29 PM
This is a scam site. Sorry to hear you got scammed.
For the real site, see my post in ChipMixer's Trusted feedback. But don't take my word for it: follow the Reference link until you reach the original post. If any of those posts show a different address, something's wrong.
Or see [ANN] ChipMixer.com - Bitcoin mixer / Bitcoin tumbler - mixing reinvented.
8394  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: List of VPN Service Providers - 2021 on: March 21, 2022, 05:20:51 PM
I know many people from China also use VPN for accessing many website services and it works just fine, so ''great'' firewall is not that great afteral.
Don't they use residential VPNs for that? I would assume they block any known VPN IP address in their "great firewall".
I remember the days when I ran an open proxy. Without advertising it (it was meant for myself only), it got many Chinese users.

I think that Mullvad is the best VPN you can buy anonymously with cryptocurrencies, but they are certainly not the cheapest available option.
It's the cheapest one I've seen if you don't need it continuously. You can literally pay for an hour, and create a new account when you need it again. I just tested it: €0.01 got me 1 hour and 38 minutes of full speed VPN.
8395  Economy / Reputation / Re: Trust abuse on: March 21, 2022, 04:21:53 PM
If this was me and I'd see my alt getting Trust inclusions, I'd open a thread in Reputation to request members to exclude it.
If people trust you, that doesn't work. Marlboroza tried that 3 years ago, and he's still stuck at DT2 strength (29).
It might be different with an alt, but there are no guarantees.

It's probably better to split this topic into 2 topics: one to address the Trust abuse, and another one to discuss what happened when yogg went "missing" (I didn't know that). Now 2 completely different subjects are getting entangled, and if that results in more mud slinging it's not helping. Or, if you don't want to create 2 topics, I suggest to strictly stick to the topic title: Trust abuse.
8396  Economy / Services / Re: LoyceV's convenient (paid) service for signature campaign managers on: March 21, 2022, 12:22:50 PM
Pricing
I don't mind doing things for free, but since campaign managers don't work for free, it seems fair to charge a fee.
Feel free to make me an offer. There's going to be a setup fee to implement your specific campaign(s), and a maintenance fee for weekly/monthly updates. Setting it up won't be worth it for campaigns that only last a few weeks, but can save the campaign manager a lot of time for long-running campaigns.
I can add your data somewhere on loyce.club, or I can upload it to your own server.
Considering the lack of users, clearly, my offer wasn't attractive Sad

I just set this up for someone, and realized it's less work than I expected. So here's a new offer:
Setup including running for the first month: $80
Each additional month: $10 (assuming a reasonable number of users)
Second campaign from the same campaign manager: 50% off. Third and more campaigns: 75% off.
Occasional changes: free of charge.

To set this up, I need 5 things from you:
1. A weekly cut-off day and time (preferrably midnight UTC)

2. (optional) A minimum character count (say 100 characters per post)

3. A list of accepted userIDs:
Code:
459836
949024
1903546
If you make this a public post on Bitcointalk, you can edit it weekly for updates.

4. A list of boards that shouldn't be counted (preferrably in this format) (just the board numbers is enough):
Code:
<a href="https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=71.0">Games and rounds</a>
<a href="https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=207.0">Investor-based games</a>
<a href="https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=212.0">Micro Earnings</a>
<a href="https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=34.0">Politics &amp; Society</a>
<a href="https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=9.0">Off-topic</a>
<a href="https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=251.0">Ivory Tower</a>
<a href="https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=250.0">Serious discussion</a>

Main account is in DT1 and the other in DT2, user ends up with “2 inclusion votes” for the Trust system.
This on it's own isn't such a bad thing. My LoyceMobile has been on and off DT2 several times.

Quote
This is unfair towards the rest of the forum users.
In my opinion, it becomes unfair if you use both accounts to leave feedback for the same user. That gives it double the strength (and it doesn't matter if it's positive, neutral or negative).

Quote
What’s the reasoning behind giving a Trust inclusion to his alt from his main, and another Trust inclusion to his main from his alt ?
I used my LoyceMobile to leave non-DT feedback, but I can imagine a user trusts their own alt's judgement, and wants to see it by default.

Quote
Both accounts are currently in DT… Wonderful Roll Eyes Can I do that as well ? Huh  Roll Eyes
Technically: yes. Hilariousandco has been doing it for a long time:
Quote
Trust list for: hilariousetc (Trust: +4 / =1 / -0) (2158 Merit earned) (Trust list) (BPIP)

hilariousetc's judgement is Trusted by:
1. jeremypwr (Trust: +23 / =2 / -0) (DT1! (9) 1555 Merit earned) (Trust list) (BPIP)
2. TheQuin (Trust: +2 / =1 / -0) (577 Merit earned) (Trust list) (BPIP)
3. hilariousandco (Trust: +26 / =2 / -0) (DT1! (34) 1150 Merit earned) (Trust list) (BPIP)
I wouldn't do it though.
To quote myself:
Do's and Don'ts
  • Don't add users to your Trust list because they've added you!
  • Don't exclude users from your Trust list based on retaliation. It's okay to trust someone's judgement, even when he doesn't trust yours.
  • Don't add someone to your Trust list because you had a trade with them. Even if you trust them with money, that doesn't mean you should trust their judgement on others. I think this is the most common mistake made on Trust lists!
  • It's okay to include your alt-account on your own Trust list. This means you trust the feedback you left from that account. Example:
    Quote
    hilariousandco Trusts these users' judgement:
    7. hilariousetc (Trust: +3 / =1 / -0) (1725 Merit earned) (Trust list) (BPIP)
  • Don't include your main account from your alt account(s). This could influence DT1-voting, and although that's not part of this guide, it's bad.

krog is also abusing the feedback system as he left himself a positive feedback from his DT1 account to his alt.
This is definitely a big no-go for me. I've seen neutral, and I've even seen negative used for alts (for instance because they're used on a public computer). But leaving positive to yourself is cheating the feedback system.
It's even worse to leave positive feedback to an account created to be used from unsecure connections. Such an account should not be trusted. I'm amazed 7 other DT-members left the same alt positive feedback too:
Image loading...
Then again, the entire Collectibles board seems to have it's own use of the Trust system. I'm not even sure that's a bad thing: unlike the rest of the forum, the Collectibles board has many users who trade without scamming. I get that their view the Trust system is different than users who for instance visit Scam Accusations.

Quote
WHY does krog intentionally make his ALT account look more trusted than it is ?
Valid question.

Quote
Doing so defies the purpose of using an alt as this alt is used for trading purposes.
In this situation, If the alt account is compromised because the user logged in from a compromised network/device (which is the “purpose” of an alt really);
it is nearly as bad as if the main account was compromised.
True.

Quote
You should have already taken the steps so your alt does not end up in DT2.
There's not much any user can do to prevent that, other than excluding it by yourself.

Quote
2/ Using both accounts to Trust exclude a single user
That's bad. Even though only one of them is on DT1, I consider this trust abuse. @krog: you may want to read LoyceV's Beginners guide to correct use of the Trust system:
LoyceV's guide seems reasonable.

Quote
I believe that krog is dangerous as he puts other’s people funds at risk, demonstrating he has no clue about what he’s dealing with.
That's one of the reasons why you should never trust anyone else to create a private key for you. It's also completely "normal" in the collectibles scene. I'm pretty sure the collectors know the risk.

Quote
After seeing several demonstrations from this user, it is quite obvious that not only would I not trust them, I also tend to seek to prevent other users from possibly losing their BTC.

I mean, he is more than trustworthy when it comes to buying or selling an item, or even escrowing funds for other users, but this is not what my point is about.
First: I disagree with the negative feedback you left krogothmanhattan:
Quote
Default Trust abuser. Address reference.
The forum's description for negative feedback is this:
Quote
Negative - You think that trading with this person is high-risk.
Your feedback doesn't reflect this, so it shouldn't be negative. You even said it yourself:
he is more than trustworthy when it comes to buying or selling an item
I can understand a negative warning on "unsecure" krogoth, but not for "Default Trust abuser". If anything, it should be a reminder that the account is used from unsecure connections and shouldn't be trusted. But even in that case I think I'd prefer neutral.

Individual DT users can exclude the alt on their own, which should easily enough remove it from DT.
That's not enough: If someone included LoyceMobile, my exclusion would give it DT2 strength (0). That means it's still on DT2.

My red will stay for now until krog addresses the situation AND rectifies his double Trust exclusion towards me.
I don't think a bad Trust list should result in negative feedback, but instead you should exclude the user from your Trust list.

krog can have all the trust feedbacks he deserves and wants, but my opinion is that neither his main or alt belongs in DT.
Great! Then exclude them.

LoyceV's datascrape must have happened around the same time.
This data is from theymos' data dump (last Saturday morning).

Allow me to quote theymos (slightly out of context):
I'm sick and tired of big escalations and never-ending feuds
The system is for handling trade risk, not for flagging people for good/bad posts/personalities/ideas.
~
 - Leave negative ratings if you actively think that trading with the person is less safe than with a random person.
I'm pretty sure both krogothmanhattan and yogg are much safer to trade with than a random person.

This user contributed big times to my mental health deterioration last year
Although it seems slightly off-topic: nobody on the whole big internet should be able to touch your mental health. If you don't like someone: ignore them and forget about them. Why torture yourself by giving power to someone you don't know?
Get well Smiley

Hang in there @yogg - don't ever let this place get the better of you.
I agree with Timelord2067 Smiley

I'm (for now at least) not commenting on the mud slinging: I see unverifiable accusations in both directions.

So how someone can remove or delete a topic that he started if he thinks it's irrelevant or unnecessary right now?
You can't. It's not up to you to decide your topic is irrelevant to someone else, that would for instance make it easier for scammers to cover their tracks.

Quote
I think there must be some procedure to do that because there are many topics in the service and marketplace board which is created for short time. Or just leave it by thinking it's not there.
If you're a honest trader, keeping records of past trades is actually beneficial for your reputation. If a thread served it's purpose (because you found what you're looking for): just lock it (bottom-left). If you think it not worth keeping on that board, move (bottom-left) it to Archival.

If you initially create a self-moderated topic, then you can delete it later.
Nope, you can't. I just tested it.
