making it short today.. its 5:25am now and i am sitting on this... well, since 8pm or so.. anyway. Changes tonight..

Things that go unnoticed
- ABout twelve dozen minor bugfixes everywhere
- Database in parts restructured
- Password recovery stuff..

Things that will go noticed:
- Exchange: Trade history
- Exchange: Few GUI improvements
- Exchange: Graph
- Exchange: Cancellation ability
- Exchange: Order grouping by price
- Website: New website... here we go, with new login, registration and loosing password form.
Preparing for a stand-alone exchange (for the virtual coins.. no longer need to be logged in into the actual game then...) as well as faucet and stuff.

Tired now. Have fun. Good night.

are you going to wipe the chains when you go out of beta? I think you should keep them as is, but maybe remove 1/2 of the blocks mined to allow new players to keep it fair, while giving beta players a bonus for helping you out?

Been thinking about that.. but taking the price of creating a chain it would be just fair to keep them - yet as you say, remove the blocks.. my idea was again to keep rigs (of course, they are paid now.. it would be unfair to remove them!)and chains but remove all blocks of all chains.
I would stop the mining thread for at least 24hrs and give everyone the same chance of entering the game when the day comes to put up everything and then i would release the mining system again in order to have everyone start at the same time.
This is of course not a big bonus on the beta users, one may talk about just removing some of the blocks instead, but it would still give them an advantage on mining power..
Also i think about adding sort of an referrer model for the start of the game.. yet i dont know yet what to implement as bonus. The thing is, that such a game works best when many people use it.. and although i hate referral systems i think that it is the easiest way to get many players to start with.. so.. what comes to my mind as easiest solution is that people that invite (or something similar) new players may get an extra rig/upgrade? for every user they bring into the game (and who deposit.. or something. it must be fraudproof of some sort..)
But as it is just two days with no major bug being reported in the exchange it is too early for me to really start thinking about the final release.. i want to make sure that fucker works as well as have some other stuff implemented first..
845  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: VirtualMiner.eu - Release Candidate! on: December 31, 2011, 12:54:54 PM
Additions likely to be included today:

- Password recovery
It works, only have to make it a bit more fancy.

- Exchange:
-- Trade history (works for me, but still disabled..)
-- Cancelling orders and View open orders (2nd works, 1st is about to be included)
-- Grouping the orders to their prices... not yet started, but can be done soon
- User to User trade/transfer

Maybe in the upcoming days:
- Alerts
-- Automatition based on alerts (set your rigs onto new chains etc.)
- API improvements (Rig status, upgrade etc.. maybe)

The exchange, my worst enemy, seems to work now.. lost about .1 BTC by testing it, but some of you should be lucky and got that cents by trading ,0)
There were a few strange bugs that i could find and exterminate with my superiour knowleadge of programming.. no wait, sounds too much as if i was writing SC2.. sooo.. i found a few really stupid bugs and removed them, seems to work now. I can not guarantee that THIS is it now, but from doing like 15 trades of various scenarious (selling higher, lower, more or less than others, buying more or less, higher and lower...) it looks alright.

One thing i would like to start talking about is Chain orphaning... currently orphaning is disabled because i didnt want that to interrupt normal gameplay while testing. My idea was to flag a chain invalid after 24hr of not mining/trading and another 24hrs later it should become orphaned (untradable/unminable). But i think this is rather stupid since any user could interrupt this.. so my two ideas are:
- Proportional orphaning: If chain speed drops below 10% or 5% of overall speed flagging/deactivation starts..
- Slow extinction: If the chain speed stagnates at below 15% of overall speed the flagging/deactivation starts after like 7 days or so..

I would go with the first idea since the more users using the page the less are the chances of one person interrupting the process and it is quite easy to implement and more important: very transaparent.

Also i could remove the limitation on the chains because i have fees on the creation anyway.. i might make these exponential instead of linearso the more chains there are the higher the fee is... but then the game might end up with only a hand full of chains...  which is not the intend...
846  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS]: Steam Games! (nothingsteamed.com) [Update: Added steam website plugin] on: December 30, 2011, 02:32:56 AM
Got to complain here... since the latest Steam sales i need a lot of time each day to browse my game browser in order to see which games i purchased via bitcoins again.. Without that damn Service my List of games would be shorter and i wouldnt need to go through it on a daily base!

So, if you want to keep your list clean and simple avoid this service. if you love playing a lot this service is absolutely perfect for you!
Best thing i found on the marketplace ever!
Are you suggesting we setup a way for users to keep track of what they've bought?
It almost sounds like your complaint is more of a compliment, in which...thanks. Smiley

It was meant to be a compliment - yes ,0)
847  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: VirtualMiner.eu - Release Candidate! on: December 30, 2011, 02:28:50 AM
Buttons to auto upgrade all you rigs, buy maxed out rigs, set all your rigs to mine one chain, distribute hashing power between chains, etc.
Nice ideas... will see if i can add that soon. It would fit the automatition ideas i have (If a new chain gets created point xx% of miners to it etc).

Just "fixed" the exchange once more.. while i was on xmas holidays i couldnt fix it but now you should be able to begin trading with the newest code... hope it is ok now ^^

ALright.. i am back home now and made, again, a list of stuff i want to fix.
But i need to apologize to you all, i gonna run off with all the money that is deposited! Hah.. no wait.. i wanted to say something different.. oh yes! I wanted to apolegize for the constant problems with the page. I wanted to get rid off these bugs in the first month of testing, but it seems noone wanted to test it thoroughly till now.. so the worst thing that could happen happened to me. I opened the game for you people to a state where you can deposit money and might loose it due to my bugs (which wont happen due to the logs i take of every transaction!) but the game is no 100% playable and thats what i want to apolegize for. I hope i can get it to work asap, but cant promise.

So, please stay patient with me and the game and try to tell me every possible bug.
850  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: VirtualMiner.eu - Release Candidate! on: December 28, 2011, 09:12:22 AM
So.. You suggest to increase the prices for the rigs? ;-)

Well, I told you that I am open for suggestions. So what are the prices you would suggest?
In the meantime the prices for chains are half. The price for upgrades and new rigs is raised.

Damn I want to use my pc again! Using my cellphone for days only sucks... Especially when writing on a forum....
851  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: VirtualMiner.eu - Release Candidate! on: December 27, 2011, 09:27:42 AM
Lszaver: your balance should be there. database logged it. Or what is it you wanted to say?

Also.. Some people already asked via pm about the prices for the chains:
first chain is free
second costs 0.25btc
third costs 0.5btc
Fourth costs 0.75btc
Fifth costs 1btc

there are currently only 5 chains allowed and a chain gets removed automatically when it wasn't mined for 48hours. So... Shall we discuss the prices? I am open to all suggestions.
852  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: VirtualMiner.eu - Release Candidate! on: December 26, 2011, 09:03:59 AM

I think it is safe now. I don't see a reason for another wipe at the moment.. The last wipe happened just to prevent more wipes... So yes, I think you're good to go.
853  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: VirtualMiner.eu - Release Candidate! on: December 25, 2011, 03:00:22 PM
Had to wipe transactions again.. sorry for that... some people found out that certain validations werent working... fixed that but had to wipe all transactions due to some change of system again...

Also changed the Screen Resolution Handling a bit. Instead of using a  cookie that is valid till Dec. 31st 2030 I check the resolution at login. SHould be far more reliable now.

854  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: VirtualMiner.eu - Release Candidate! on: December 25, 2011, 12:08:07 AM
Christmas "update":

- Exchange reopened - UI tweaked a tiny bit.
- Number of Icons per column now depends on the screen's resolution. I have adjusted the number of icons for: 1680x1050, 1440x900, 1366x768 (or 1024x768). Everything else will be dealt as 1680x1050.. If you have a resolution to add dont hesitate to tell me. But this should be done together since, for example, i cant test HD resolutions with my system.

*edit*
Added a _simple_ API for the game:

From the preliminary Readme:

   api.php?a=action&p1=param1&p2=param2&p3=param3&p4=param4

   Action: GetChains
   Params:
Return: List of all Chains and their Parameters

   Action: GetTicker
   Params: p1 = ChainID
Return: High/Low/Last of the Chain defined in p1

   Action: GetLast
   Params: p1 = ChainID, p2 = Number of Items
Return: Get the p2 last transactions for the Chain defined in p1

More to come there, but not at 2:45am ;0)
855  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: VirtualMiner.eu - Release Candidate! on: December 24, 2011, 01:21:41 AM
After some testing it seems that the exchange is still not completely ok.. under certain circumstances stuff doesnt work.. i will test all available scenarios tomorrow and check what works and what not. Thanks to the new way of handling stuff in the exchange debugging and fixing should be pretty easy.. yet not at 2am ,0)

I will return coins currently on the exchange to their users and remove all transactions... but chains and other stuff wont be touched at this time.

Btw: Added a _small_ news display in the upper right of the Dashboard

edit: Might as well tweak the UI of the exchange when doing that...
856  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: VirtualMiner.eu - Release Candidate! on: December 23, 2011, 08:50:18 PM
Good work! This looks like it's coming on nicely! I'm going to start playing it again Smiley
It doesn't look like anyone is playing though. The exchanges say n/a for all the options?

I just guess people have just not yet started buying/selling.. site has been up for only about 3hrs though
857  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: VirtualMiner.eu - Release Candidate! on: December 23, 2011, 06:24:20 PM
You forgot ixcoin (I think)

Finally finished a vertsion of the exchange that i like... and which seems to be working the way it should Further fixes are now included:
- BTC and Mail address can now be set
- Payment System now works correctly
- Heavy rewrite of "Hashing algorithm", it should lead now to better results at diff..
- Following Names are banned
-- "Bitcoin","Litecoin","Solidcoin","I0Coin","RuCoin","Tenebrix","Fairbrix","Geistgeld","Namecoin" as well as their corresponding abbreviations.
- Added some tweaks to the login system
- Deposits and Withdrawals will be allowed again after 7pm (CET), Login is open again

Currently writing on the following things:
- News on the Desktop (taken from Twitter)
- Alerts for certain events
- Tweaking the UI of the Exchange a bit
- Adjusting the number of Rigs per column to the host's screen resolution

Future features that are planned
- Faucet
- API
- Automatition of certain things

Sorry for the previous fixes taking so long, but naturally the last days of work for the year are always long and stressful. Therefore i normally found the time only after working for like 8 hours at a microscope to do this and then up until late late night.. of course this doesnt lead to any useful results and therefore the "simple" task of rewriting a few pieces of code took me a few days instead of a few hours. But at least i had the chance of testing 6 versions of code for the exchange, allowing me to choose the one that seems to be the most flexible and hence best to adjust and fix if it comes to further bugfixes or improvements.

I did a reset on Chains and transactions again - this was neccessary due to the heavy modifications in how coin transfers are handled and due to the fact that some chains had "bad" names. the current way of handling all stuff looks nice enough to be useful AND extendable in case of need. I also added a 0.3% fee on the exchange to make speculative bubbles a bit harder to achieve... these fees go to the faucet i still write..

So.. have fun with the newest version.. and for a more direct contact you can either pm me on Freenode (Nachtwind) or come to #virtualminer on the same Server.
859  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: VirtualMiner.eu - Release Candidate! on: December 20, 2011, 10:59:46 PM
Is there some chain i forgot?
NMC - Namecoin
GG - Geist Geld

Oh, right, thanks.

Update: 12/21 01:00 CET

Still redoing the exchange.. stupid thing is that i still have a life outside this project that needs much attention as well..

Exchange is almost done, Chain name limitations are finished. login to the website is currently not allowed because some of the changes are not 100% finished. Sorry for that.
860  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: VirtualMiner.eu - Release Candidate! on: December 20, 2011, 10:22:26 AM
Naturally i dont use a "real" Bitcoin-like algorithm to submit shares etc, therefore my algos are a bit different.
Difference is mainly a factor to keep the real Blocks per Hour as close as possible to the targetted blocks per hour (more or less as in Bitcoin). So with a very high block generation and much vHash put into it the diff raises much higher than on other chains.

I hope that is somewhat understandable.. got a headache and my english therefore sucks right now ,0)

As for naming stuff.. yes, i will add a "ban" on names like BTC or Bitcoin - and of all the alt cryptos that are currently arround namingly:
BTC
LTC
SC
I0C
RUC
TBX
FBX

Is there some chain i forgot?

But back to the exchange code for now.. that is my highest priority today :0)
How come noone told me before it was that badly done?! ;0)
