The only way to permanently raise the value of DVC is to improve Devtome. I say we rank the articles each month by the number of unique page views. The bottom 50% don't earn anything. Simple.
This rewards good content while discouraging the bad, as well as encouraging people to promote their work. The good content will earn more than it used to, and less bad content will be produced, Devtome will be improved and the value of DVC will rise.
Actually, it rewards good marketing efforts, regardless of the quality of the content Yeah. And pictures over writing. True, but the better the content is the easier it is to drive traffic. But we don't just want any old traffic, we want quality, consistent traffic. Consistent traffic over a period of months is much harder to fake than an single burst (anyone with a VPN can probably do that), so if we measure the traffic over a longer period it rewards 'real' marketing efforts. This can be measured by Google analytics. How about we modify my original proposal to this: Round 1: 1. We rank the articles published in the first round by the number of unique page views. The bottom 50% don't earn anything. The top 50% earn at the usual rate. 2. 50% of the DVC (which used to go to the bottom 50%) are now available to reward marketing efforts for the better articles published in round 1. I propose we do this over a 6 round period. This 50% can be divided up into 5 batches of 10%. The first round has already been paid for. So at the end of round 2, 10% of the DVC from round 1 are sent to the top 25% most popular articles written in round 1 measured by the traffic they recieved in round 2. The top 50% most popular articles written in round 2 receive their 50%. 3. End of round 3 - The top 50% most popular articles written in round 3 receive their 50%. The top 25% of articles written in round 1 according to their traffic in round 3 receive their 10%. The top 25% of articles written in round 2 according to their traffic in round 3 receive their 10%. 4. Repeat Edit: This doesn't mean we have to keep promoting our articles for 6 months, as that would be really tedious, but if they are promoted well with good SEO work they'll get rankings in Google, which will send fairly consistent quality traffic.

How do I send BTC to my ripple wallet? Cant seem to figure it out... :s
Via Bitstamp as the gateway...see step one. Ah ok... so I have to wait for the BTC to arrive at Bitsamp, it can't be moved instantly from my bitcoin wallet to the ripple wallet. Will do that!

Almost instantaneous How do I send BTC to my ripple wallet? Cant seem to figure it out... :s

Markets don't have to be rational, and most of those coins haven't been released onto the market. Anyone have the figures for how many are being held by ripple?

Thanks for the tutorial. I already bought some ripples at the Bitstamp price and sent them to my ripple wallet. I want to try buying some more by sending BTC from my bitcoin wallet to my ripple wallet and buying them there in the ripple wallet. If I fund my ripple wallet with BTC from my bitcoin wallet will it appear really fast or does that only happen from bitstamp?

The way to increase the value of DVC is to give people more confidence in Devtome. Promoting Devtome is not the best way to increase the confidence in Devtome until there is something worthy of promotion. We need to make this upgrade, and then do lots of promotion.
Does no one like this idea because it means you have to write good content and means you might not get paid? We need to address this issue of how to reward better content. I've seen it has been discussed before but the solution I have proposed hasn't been discussed. Please, share your thoughts on this. It's a free upgrade I am proposing, and it could make a huge difference to the future of Devtome if only the highest voted+viewed articles are rewarded.

I published 50000 words on Devtome yesterday, I can't see myself on the round 27 or 28 list, should I be on one of those? My username on Devtome is matt608 too (this is my first use of Devtome). Just curious to make sure I'm in the system! - here is my piece of writing btw http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=walkinguprightWelcome to Devtome. Your article is in Round 28 so check http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=devtome_stats for when that round ends and payouts start. Your page at http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=wiki:user:matt608 needs to be formatted a bit. Place this ==Original== above your article listing. Also if you would like to get a partial share you can place the signature link at http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=earn_devcoins_by_marketing in your bitcointalk signature, just be sure to include it in your user page as per the directions. I might do some link building to earn some more DVC and it would be useful to know which keywords I should be aiming for and for their corresponding pages.
In regards to your PM I will answer it (partially) here as I think it's good for all - link building to increase traffic is desired. The more links there are to Devtome articles, the better. One of the goals is to make Devtome profitable through advertising, and advertisers like to see traffic. From http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=devtome_analyticsOk all done, thanks.

Maybe we could do like Wikipedia, have featured articles, or some kind of flag indicating high quality articles, and pay only for those?
So that authors will have an incentive to keep improving their articles instead of spamming more articles?

I made a thread about how to improve the writing quality but no-one seemed interested: I have an idea. It seems to me what Devtome needs is a better way to reward high quality writing, and to discourage bad quality writing. Why don't we install this free wiki-voting software? https://marketplace.atlassian.com/plugins/com.adaptavist.confluence.page-commment-vote-pluginIt's free for open source websites, such as Devtome. It would allow for there to be a voting option on each page that is created. I don't think everyone who writes anything on Devtome should get paid. That has been tried and tested, and we can see the results. Content quality is lacking on many Devtome articles. It's reasonable to say that only those with good enough writing should get paid, otherwise we will end up with a website full of crap. So far we have had no fair way to decide which articles are worthy, but if we installed this voting system it will enable us to build a much higher quality website. For example, if we installed the software and made a new rule that only the top 20 voted articles each round earn any money, people will have much more incentive to write good quality work, as well as promote their work to get more votes. It will also mean that the money is divided up to a smaller group, so those who do get paid will get paid more, as well as reducing the amount of low quality work that is published. I don't know how many articles are posted to Devtome each round so maybe it should be more like the top 50 get paid rather than only the top 20, but you get the idea. A final point is that we wouldn't want voting to be possible on category pages, or the main pages where there are instructions, hopefully that can be configured in the settings. I really think this is what Devtome needs to clean itself up, and raise the value of DVC.

Is there a way I can log into google analytics an look at the traffic to Devtome over the past several months? I'm interested in seeing where it comes from, which keywords are sending search traffic to figure out what needs doing in terms of SEO and marketing to get more. I'm now a devtome writer and have been employed to do SEO work before (search engine optimization) so I can be of assistance here.
I can't personally help with that. But just looked at walking up right. I'll read it sometime, but I looked at the pictures, lol. Looks like it was a cool adventure. It was a life changing experience, and a lot of fun too! Is there anyone who can let me into google analytics?

Interesting, I'm in the process of getting set up on Devtome as a new writer (hello from the other thread! ) just published my 50,000 word travel book on hiking the Appalachian trail. Here it is: http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=walkinguprightTomorrow I plan on putting up my 20k word YA science fiction story, then on to my fantasy novel! Devtome is exciting! It would be great to make some money from these, even if it is only a modest amount.

Sorry to hear that, I don't think there's anything much you can do to get it back. If you're in Hong Kong I heard someone say something about reporting bitcoin thefts to cybercrime but other than that it's gone.

Edit: I just read your reply FinShaggy, so I could publish these on Devtome and openly call them 'drafts' and that would be ok. Then if I wanted to sell them in the future after lots of editing that would also be ok?
Exactly. Try to complete the draft at some point though before going on to editing. Devtome is paying you in hopes that you can use the money to do more than you could without it. Great, I think I'll do it! I've actually put writing as a second priority to my music, so money I earn from this will go towards supporting me while I produce my first album. This may be a silly question, but can I publish songs on devtome as well? I compose and play all the parts, electric guitar, bass guitar, keyboard, vocals and programmed drums. I have a batch of about 12 songs I recorded. Again, I consider them 'drafts' as I recoded them on a mediocre microphone, but I've recently bought the proper kit I need to produce studio-quality tracks. If I can make a few hundred bucks from getting my first batch of 'draft' songs out there that would be great also! They are reasonable sound quality, but not quite professional. Genre is a bit like 1970s new-wave psy-rock but a bit darker. I've no idea how the pay-rate would be decided for music... :s I think they are working on something like that currently. Right now it is possible to post code and lyrics from music though. Ok thanks for the info
