8501  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: why does my pc seem freeze everytime i try to playback a video file while mining on: June 15, 2013, 06:12:46 PM
no flash. it needs your gfx card to play. on youtube switch to html5 mode on your account settings and you're good to go.

You have to change it on your settings? I thought it was automatic.

And wouldn't HTML5 video still be using the video card for playback (codecs), therefore still causing the same issue?

Do you know what the power usage is on it?

Not exactly. But it isn't higher than 30 Watts. The Poweradapter from cardreaderfactory has 120 Watts and can power up 4 devices (according to statement of cardreaderfactory).

Edit:

26 Watts: http://www.cardreaderfactory.com/shop/lancelot.html

Nie, thanks, Smiley. This is a hard one. Basically it's about on par with a video card cost-wise but unlike a video card has a negligible power cost...

..and newbie-d for 7 months.. Wink

You lost me there, lol...

duble LòL <- that was a newbie-d lol... Smiley

You're making no sense whatsoever...

O ye, of little faith......
What a sad and pitiful existence it would be!
There are more than 2 million new internet users coming online every day and what is happening in practise is that members are regifting all the time so no one is the last one to gift.
There will always be another kind person to help you out when you are in the gutter.

lol, you're ridiculous. Someone has to be the last. No ponzi scheme has ever gone on forever.
8504  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Recent decline? on: June 15, 2013, 06:01:59 PM
It may be coincidental but BFL has started shipping increasing difficulty even more. Maybe miners who don't want to move into asics or alt coins are selling their coins forcing price down.

It's coincidental. The opposite is what should happen under normal circumstances (supply goes down and can't meet demand, so price goes up).

How about you send me a 1 BTC gift and I may or may not send it back to you.  Deal?

1BurtWEejbnKeBRsvcydJvsNztB1bXV5iQ

Thanks for playing!

Let's turn this into a pyramid scheme like that website. When you get your 1 BTC, send 20% of it to me, Smiley.

wait, let me create 10 users that confirm that they recieved "gifts", and that you can send gifts to them to recieve 5 gifts afterwards

Sounds good. Please also give a confirmation that I will get back more than I put in. Thanks!

That is the way it works

Here is the definitive list showing how many gifts you receive back in return for sending one to nine gifts.

Send 1 gift... Receive 2 gifts back...

Send 2 gifts... Receive 5 gifts back...

Send 3 gifts... Receive 7 gifts back...

Send 4 gifts... Receive 10 gifts back...

Send 5 gifts... Receive 12 gifts back...

Send 6 gifts... Receive 15 gifts back...

Send 7 gifts... Receive 17 gifts back...

Send 8 gifts... Receive 19 gifts back...

Send 9 gifts... Receive 22 gifts back...

As you can see, the more generous you are and the more gifts you send to other people, ultimately the more gifts you will receive back. As the old adage goes; what you give out comes back ten-fold, both good and bad.

I see. So when you're the last person to give gifts, they just start spawning from nowhere, right?

That's why I said 'some' Wink. I have never actually played that game. I have heard reviews and they are normally good. I might just look for that on amazon or where ever I can find it.

Oh man, it's awesome. I got into RPG's back in the PSX days because I loved how they had hundreds of hours of actual content, rather than being a 30-45 minute game that you beat and throw down. I started with FF7.

Lost Odyssey is a pretty long game and it's got a lot of humor in it. Well worth playing!
8508  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin makes frontpage of Financial Times magazine on: June 15, 2013, 05:30:29 PM

Nope, never saw it before. Which is my point.

While Bitcoin has been constantly on Techcrunch, Hacker News, Bloomberg, Yahoo Finance, The Economist, Forbes, Mises Institute, 4chan, Radio ads, and national TV news in many countries.
Oh, and special 30 minutes reports on China's national TV.

My coworkers and my parents' coworkers have heard of Bitcoin.
Even my grandparents heard of Bitcoin!
We aren't a year ago anymore...

How much readers are now seeing FT through this forum, reddit, or other affiliated Bitcoin platforms, compared to the number of readers who are just discovering Bitcoin with FT?

Looking how people are claiming , "This is it" , after bitcoin has made it to the FT (Weekend Magazine) after already been on other newspapers and the exuberation on the forum , that the price will go up , the whales will stop trading and manipulating and invest in infrastructure , everything we'll be fine now I can understand what's really happening ...

DESPAIR!

Quite how bears can spin this into a negative thing is completely beyond me. Do any of you stand back and actually think about what you are saying?

Being in the ft weekend magazine is not negative, it is great news. Exposure is good. These kinds of things are far more positive and concrete than the nonsense regarding Cyprus or China that was readily lapped up on these forums.

As for "OMG whales"... It is not then causing the problems. It is the weak hands that follow them.

On this note, even if were bad, "there's no such thing as bad publicity." Anything that helps bring things out to the open piques more interest. Those who would jump on will do their research regardless of what others said positive/negative.

Lol. Cheesy . Where would you travel then first?

Alaska. Not sure why but I've always wanted to go there. I love the cold and hate summer, and I want a pet polar bear so I'm sure that plays a role, although I'm not sure if I could handle living there... so far away from everything...

It just shows that capitalisms is on its final leg.

Capitalism is dying because Microsoft did something stupid and everyone decided to by a PS4 instead?

Not really. Capitalism has been failing since the start. Look how messed up the world is.

So, out of interest who is considering buying either one of these consoles? And who is converting to PC instead?

I may get a PS4, though likely not. Definitely won't get a One. I'm already a pretty hardcore PC gamer so no real converting, :p

I've been into PC for years now. But, I have always liked consoles for playing with family & friends around the house. You know have a few beers and play on the xbox/ps3 for a few hours. Or, sometimes we used to have flat out gaming sessions.

Yeah, but next-gen feels like it's killing that. My big selling point of the 360 was the Kinect. That thing is amazing. But the One is completely screwing everything up.

I never got a PS3 btw... not sure why, lol.

I have had experience with Xbox 360, and the whole Playstation franchise. It's strange that I finally converted to Xbox, but that is not because I preferred it, it's because of the amount of my friends who were on it. To be quite honest, I think they are both the same. They both have their faults but no comparison to the Xbox One. The Ps3 has always ran faster and lasted longer for me. Hey, I still have my phat ps3, which I bought 3 days after release. Still running fast and smooth. I mainly like Ps3 because of it's OS, I Linux. Xbox has always had a bigger fan base, mainly due to the amount of people that use microsoft, as microsoft is the leading OS for regular computer users. People like to stick to what they got, people don't like change.

Personally, I didn't like the look of the Kinect, Now that I have heard that the microphone and cam will always be on, WHAT? That's a privacy concern isn't? I think microsoft is trusted, but I don't know...One thing I really used to like about the Xbox is the controllers, they are very tough and durable, unlike the ps3's.
I tend to squeeze quite hard whilst playing on the console (Don't know why, PC I don't squeeze mouse).
I have gone through around 3 extra Ps3 controllers, which weren't cheap at the time.

But, PC is the way to go. Hey, some people say "Once you go PC, you'll never go back".

I never got a PS3 either, its always been 360. I will be playing most games on PC now, but will probably eventually get a PS4.

If I get a next-gen (I really don't think I will though) it will have to be a PS4. The only alternative for me is the Wii-U, which is too Wii-like for me. It's like a glorified Dreamcast.

If I had to choose, it would be the Ps4. I might yet get it, but may wait a while for the price to drop and to hear reviews.

"Once you go PC, you'll never go back" isn't always true though. On the 360, my favorite game by far was Lost Odyssey. That's an example of a quality game you just can't get on PC. And it sucks because I'd love to be able to play all the good next-gen games on PC, Sad.

Another small update:

To make it a bit more transparent, the raffle history now contains links to the transactions of processed payments!

How much historical data do you save? I was thinking it may be cool (worthless for some, cool for people like me, :p) if you could set up a listing of the addresses, tickets earned, how many times they've won and how much they've won.

Not really that "useful," but for data-enthusiasts like me it's awesome. I figured if you already have the data stored, it shouldn't be too bad to run the calculations.

well, we had to discard all data of BETA phase 1 due to the massive restructuring of the BETA-2 version. Right now we have the historic data of about 6 days Wink lol

anyways, more detailed statistics are on the to-do list, but it will be a few weeks before we'll get there.

Even if the data started today it'd still be pretty cool to see, Smiley. And I'm glad you've already got it on the to-do-list! I'll report anything else I think of, :p.

8516  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Proposal to change Bitcoins hashing algorithm to Scrpyt-Jane on: June 15, 2013, 05:11:36 PM
ASICs shouldn't bother anyone. A rig with 4 7970 GPUs can only get barely 4 GH/s and costs over $3000. Now, for $649, you can get a rig that gives you 4.5 GH/s. ASICs are so much cheaper, with the tradeoff of having only one purpose. Also, imagine how mad CPU miners were when GPU miners came out. Must have been infuriating. Advancement of technology will always happen. ASICs just happen to be the next step past GPUs. There will be something to pass up ASICs in something like 10 years. Just watch.

Can someone please provide a link to where you can purchase an ASIC for $649?
Thanks in advance.

https://products.butterflylabs.com/homepage/5-gh-s-bitcoin-miner.html

for $649 you can get over 10 GH/s and have change left over

But the leftover change is all you're going to have for the next few months (or maybe longer)...

lol, this is so true. I think it will be a long time before any of the big rigs are shipped, considering BFL is now selling the chips themselves for the next month or so.
