Deposits seem to have broken the exact moment I left and I didn't notice it until I got up just now >.>

Working on pushing all deposits through. They should all go through automatically 1 block after the fix is implemented.

Thank you kind sir. I hope i get my deposit before i give up and just go watch tv. Cheesy

Disabled Monero   Disabled XMR

wallet offline precaution at request of the devs

why?

Here is the best and shortest write-up i've seen so far. btw, you should be able to buy/sell, just not withdraw or deposit.

What time specifically is the attack supposed to start? I need to make sure that I start my popcorn at the right time.

Seems BCX decided he needs an additional 4 hours at least, he has extended his deadline (or maybe he is just bad at math, don't know which):

Hey retard,

I said start in 72 hours, which is still ~5 hours away.

how many hours until we know for sure? would now be a good time to buy shitloads of xmr, are we going to see big rise after "nothing happened"?

I think 29 hrs from now.

thank you

Not sure if XBC made this or what, but i found it on some (this?) thread a while ago...

The notation in the whitepaper and what you've seen here is proper notation. I = x*H_p(P) means x times H_p(P) where H_p is a hash function, H_p(P) is the hash function evaluated at a point, and * denotes elliptic curve multiplication which is NOT normal multiplication. Just like matrix multiplication is not the same as usual multiplication, elliptic curve multiplication takes place in a different manner than what you learned in, say, elementary algebra class. This is an abstract multiplicative notion, it is quite usual and proper to see it used this way.

For further reading, I would not begin necessarily with fluffypony's wall of links, but with Daepp and Gorkin's "Reading, Writing, and Proving" to learn a little bit about formal mathematics, and then maybe move onto Trappe and Washington's "Introduction to Cryptography." In that order. Be sure to try all the exercises in both books before asking any more questions.

Edit: I a word.

geez why so many accounts anonnymint  Kiss

lol. I believe this is actually the cryptographer who the XMR devs had vet the whitepaper ... google is your friend.. I'm not. Tongue

I appreciate Anon136's argument against imposing a "post-mine" which would affect the emissions curve, as he says miners have the choice to stop mining if they dont like the change but investors have already bought in so changing the conditions is unfair. I still like the idea of a post-mine on the principle that the devteam have proved themselves worthy of a pre-mine which never happened, but I don't have a decent idea of how to create it Sad

BBR has a 1% dev tax, and I still consider it free as in FOSS.  VIA had a completely fair, transparent, and very successful presale of Block 1's 10% of total coins.

We should emulate both of these approaches, and combine them to make Monero a staggeringly well funded project with concomitant high resiliency/survivability characteristics...

I'm a Monero investor who has been hloding tight since it was at parity with Primecoin, and only traded on cryptonoteexchange.

Which is more unfair to me?
A) risking the near certainty of devs running out of enthusiasm/money for completion of our very ambitions goals (thus XMR being unable to grow and respond to emergencies), or,
B) changing the emission 'social contract' condition by a slight degree

I think the former is far more unfair, because it puts my entire investment at risk in entirely predictable and probably preventable ways, IE liquidity crises and stagnation.

The emission 'social contract' is not set in stone, EG the final emission rate is still undecided.

As in investor, I don't feel comfortable being a free rider by expecting the devs to work for free/cheap, or jointly subsidizing others' free rides by making piddly one time donations.

Yes, the devteam has proven themselves worth of a pre-mine which never happened.  Here is how to create it:

I call it the 'Two To TacoTime' plan.   Cool

-One-time Bootstrap Block 302612 (celebrating 100k anniversary of historic Battle of Troll Block)

-Bootstrap Block includes 1% of final coin total (184k XMR) moved from end of emission (years away) to SoonTM

-Bootstrap Block coins are bid for and distributed proportionately in the same trustless/transparent way as VIA's Block 1 presale (http://presale.viacoin.org/terms)

-Bootstrap Block is worth at least $300k dollars, enough to refactor codebase, integrate DB, complete I2P, create Official Wallet, and hire pros for meticulous security audits

-After the Bootstrap Block, all subsequent blocks (less transaction fees) pay 1% to dev fund

-Ongoing 1% mining tax provides for continued care and maintenance of the mature platform created by our Bootstrap Block

-New 'set in stone' rules/guarantees/commitments/social contract: no more Bootstrap Blocks ever no matter what, and mining devtax will never go over 1%

-dev fund is kept 50/50 in XMR/BTC multisig escrow.  Rebalancing may be done without notice, prior or otherwise

-dev fund expenditures must be authorized by at least 5 of the 9 (7 core team members + RPietila + Zoidberg)

-dev funds may only be used to pay for writing/auditing critical code, and may not be used to raise more funds or for marketing

This sounds pretty fair to me, but then again i'm not all that savvy on premines or how it may or may not affect current prices etc.

Sounds like the general consensus is that either way, something must be done, these guys can't work for free, or this whole project will just never happen... something has to give, somewhere....

I feel the same way here, thanks for posting your idea, even if it gets shot down by devs or whatever...

if you followed bcx closely for the last few years - you'd understand why.  mark my words - if he ever views monero or any other PoW as a threat to LTC god have mercy on it's soul.

Word! What has me concerned is the lack of any response from any the xmr team refuting this. Seems to me if not true they would debunk this asap.

How do you answer to someone that say he found "some specific thing" in your code?

Two options:

1(what you expect): "Well man sorry I just checked my code and I don't see any "specific thing", you were wrong, LOL."
2(what they did): "Could you please be a little more specific about what the specific thing is so I can find it?"

You think we're talking about what? A baby puzzle?

If it was as easy as saying "you lost an animal" it wouldn't need any "specific indication" but I'm afraid XMR is a little more vast and complex matter.

"Oh btw, you have a cancer. I wont tell you where it is, but you do have one that might kill you soon. Good luck finding it. Oh btw only very skillful doctors like me can detect its presence."

Now good luck proving you don't have any cancer (or that it is infact an allergy) in a very short time.

+100 & amen brother ... This has to be the most moronic panic dump i've ever seen.... about what? FUD, not even the real attack killed the price so hard. this guy BCX is full of it IMO, so BCX - Put up the proof or GTFO you soul-less, obviously extremely butt-hurt of a person against JUST monero, when you claim this bug affects all CN coins... What a fool...

I'm going to be buying a lot XMR tonight people, oh yeah.. thansk BCX, or I will just call you BS from now on... Cheesy
8510  Other / Archival / Re: delete on: September 17, 2014, 08:12:53 PM
The only reason I can see for you to create a thread like this is to create some fud and buy in cheap (Since you specifically targeted XMR out of all CN coins).
The other CN coins aren't worth targeting (BTC value) either way. If someone was going to attack a CN coin and be able to steal people's wallets, it would be XMR wallets wouldn't it?

If someone find an exploit, he doesn't tell everyone on bitcointalk.

No, but he could have a soul and post the details to some respectable dev, like fluffy or smooth...

It might help to have some funding goals, so that as a community, we can work to certain points more rapidly. Maybe the Monero Committee (or whatever is called) can do something with this?

The MEW will be donating at least 1,650 XMR to the developers next week, maybe more depending on the exact membercount. When our membership opens to everyone (asap), the sum will be even higher.

It is correct devs are operating at a loss currently, but at least we are getting a structure in place to support them.

Thanks, I guess I missed it, but what is "MEW" btw?

My feelings are it is called the trollbox for a reason.

As for your question, crypto_zoidberg seems like a reasonable enough guy to me. I've exchanged messages with him on various occasions. I don't worship him or anyone else, but I don't have anything bad to say about him either.

I was going to say the exact same thing but I didn't because I'm sure the normal ppl have the same feelings towards his stuff, you just confirmed.

Cool thanks guys.. damn trolls be a trollin.. it's just weird this guy  seems so polite as you say, but continues to dish out nothing but fud or whatever you wanna call it, for literally, HOURs on end, despite everyone telling him he's bs.

And yes, i know it's the troll box for a reason, but i go there daily and have not run into anyone on there quite like this guy/gal/moron, he has zero to offer than "Xmr devs just suck, CZ is god/saviour/anon satoshi" etc.. LMFAO!!! Cheesy

peace out! Smiley

btw - smooth, taco, flufffy... some shill on poloniex's trollbox is claiming that you all "Worship" cryptozoidberg,  spreading fud and about how BBR is better, and that he's the "Best anon dev" on the planet and that you guys worship him... can you touch on your overall feelings about the lone BBR dev at all? I don't see why both coins cannot peacefully co-exist, but the fud is annoying. thanks again.

Install a Poloniex addon to mute people, from here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=776060.msg8746634#msg8746634

Thanks, but i just left it for a while, i don't need to ignore people on the trollbox, i was just looking for the truth, as he says xmr devs "Bow" to cryptozoidberg, which i don't believe... thanks! Cheesy

coin miners often get false positives, in this case the bitmonerod.exe also a miner. Bitcoin and it's Minerd mining client also get false positives.

most AV's will call out minerd - why? cuz it's a "potential" botnet application. ... simple/normal stuff, have it all the time!... Cheesy

What is happening with this coin right now? I'm never seen the price this low. I want to invest but why are people selling?

Monero, Boolberry and Bytecoin are being dumped for Stealthcoin. It doesn't have the bloat.

1. Who says people are dumping? Could also be miners just selling to keep up with their cost (because of the high inflation rate monero has).

2. Would you rather have bloating and be truly anonymous or the other way around?

i'd call it panic selling myself, but hey, just my opinion....

Seriously? Grow some pride in america you self-less loser.

Edit - Josh, did you lose anyone that day? Seriously?

I did. So go die in a fire you scamming fuck loser out to make $ on other's losses.... So moronic, i cannot even fathom it.

Have a nice (whats' left of your) life, moron.

Edit - can anyone with a non-banned hashtalk account repost this for me to GAW_CEO? I got banned the first week for asking obvious questions... thank you.

This thread is getting worse every day. Half of it is spam troll wars and lies, the other half suspicions and detective stories.

They are selling contracts, similar to stocks or bonds that are supposed to ROI. I don't ask my bank what happens with the money I send them but focus on the profits.
It's funny how you say it's unethical and admit you are receiving payouts. Money over ethics?

Hashlets were sold to people as "proprietary Hashlet hardware".  They've now tried to erase all of that because, quite frankly, it was blatent fraud.

Quote
The general criminal offence of fraud can include:
1. deception whereby someone knowingly makes false representation
2. or they fail to disclose information

People can try and justify it because they're currently making money, but at the end of the day you have to really ask yourself if they can be truly trusted.  There was no need for the deception, people still would have bought it.

I would agree 100% with this. I mean, let's face it all - so much drama, changes, renegs, etc etc.. it's all pretty strange IMO.

Personally, i have a hashlet - can i even sell it? I thought they banned sales or something?

thanks - more popcorn! Smiley

Mem and mob great work!  Jonathan Dalcin is a regular shill always sticking up for Josh on hashtalk.... Oh, what a tangled web we weave. When first we practise to deceive! The picture is getting clearer.
