8721  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: New firmware for antminer S9 - less power consumption on: October 31, 2018, 05:36:57 PM
Has anybody successfully used the Reset button, software reset, or IP Reporter reset approach and managed to revert the firmware?

I tested on about a dozen S9s of various ages and the software reset pointed everything back to Bitmain, left the IP address alone (no mac change that often happens when backporting).  I tried the physical reset button on 5 machines and all ignore that.  Tried on May 23rd box and the fault light blinked within seconds and everything was reset - but it was already running the older firmware.  Tried the documented IP Reporter reset on one upgraded box and that did nothing.

I have reverted all of mine back to the November firmware. I simply installed the firmware using the control panel.

Have you try the firmware on a S9J?

some have but in all reality why would they? If it has issues with the regular S9 and bitmain is stating it is for S9 not S9i or S9j - why risk bricking the miner?
8723  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: TRIPLE-1, Inc. 株式会社 松島 KAMIKAZE 7nm SHA-256 ASIC on: October 31, 2018, 02:58:00 PM
yeah, just think what halong did. lets see what the future brings

I wish Halong had worked out but it sank like a rock - really hope Triple-1 succeeds

man that sucks about the properties - I wish I could turn my spare lot next to my house into an array - its only about 1.5 acres though.

also, someone is paying 130 a month to host s9's is that per each one? or total for all 3?
8725  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: TRIPLE-1, Inc. 株式会社 松島 KAMIKAZE 7nm SHA-256 ASIC on: October 31, 2018, 02:33:16 AM
I had reached out to them to get any more information about the miners regarding ship date, cost, and reviews.

Their reply was that they have or will have only a small number of Demo units, and have many inquiries/offers for this. This doesn't meant one way or another whether there will be any independent reviews done prior to launch.

As far as any other information, they plan to only use their website and other "official presses" to update people which is the same generic response others have received previously. So this looks like the website alone, as I couldn't find a Twitter or Facebook page advertised anywhere on the site.

Without them advertising if they've hit their benchmarks along the way with chip/demo unit delivery it's hard to say how long we are waiting. They still have the same information that their 1st mass production units are due by the end of November based on the road map.

The pro here is that they aren't taking any money up front at the moment. I'm just hoping we get some updates or a product launch soon

pretty much the same responses I got - with the stats they claim to have, I would expect a lot more advertising and some independent reviews.

thanx for the prompt reply, i am not concerned about dust, its just that ive forgotten how long was the wait for the first payment as i have just started again and its been three days, you could probably see the new worker working at 12th as we speak.

ps. its been a year since i had anything to do with all this so sorry if im breaking any rules by bolding the first msg post and forgetting this was the place to get in contact, lucky my hunch was right and i have found you guys again.

well, you get a reward once we find a block. We have not hit a block for going on 7 days (152.5 hours) also you have diminished rewards as you ramp up - I think that takes about 7 days.
8727  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: New firmware for antminer S9 - less power consumption on: October 26, 2018, 07:27:46 PM
UPDATE for S9i

We tested the firmware on S9is and it does produce similar savings as for S9s. Moreover, it works with different power supplies.

ViaBTC pool not supported for the October 23rd version of the firmware.

maybe so but it would probably be best to wait for the official S9i version which comes out next week.
8728  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: New firmware for antminer S9 - less power consumption on: October 26, 2018, 05:51:31 PM
Here are my miners that are on Kano.is after 12 hours - they all started at around 13.9 - 14.2 but are now closer to 13.6 - 13.7 (the LPM FW is installed on the first 2 only.)

I have others on other pools but the same effect, so no need for multiple screen shots showing the same thing. They all start losing hashrate after 12 hours or so. And they are not running hot - temps are in the mid 60's to mid 70's

Buy or build an adapter cable. Take an extra one of your miner plugs with the L6-20P plug on it. Cut the L6-20P end off (leaving 6 or 8 inches of cord). Cut a 5-15/20R receptacle end off of an extension cord. Splice these together to make yourself an adaptor cable that you can plug the meter into and then plug it into one of your L6-20R outlets for power. Of course, make sure everything is put together right and sealed good (electrical tape, heat shrink tubing, etc...) Remove the C13 to L6-20P cable you have on a miner. Use a regular PC power cable (C13 to 5-15P or 5-20P plug) to plug into the power meter.  This way you can use the cheap, easy to move from miner to miner, power meter, and not have to change any wiring. When done testing a unit, put the original miner cord back and move on to another unit.

I may do that, though I would prefer to be able to measure each miner at all times. but I could see having that many as being expensive. May just have to swap out all my outlets and cords to ones that will simply work with the meters.

or install inline ones. would be nice if ASICs had one built in right at the back of the PSU.
8730  Economy / Economics / Re: How can we get people to use bitcoin as a currency? on: October 26, 2018, 04:02:30 PM
I spend crypto daily - I use Bitpay services which holds my BTC and then it converts to fiat cash as I use the card - works like any other debit/credit card.

As DefiantMiner said, you can use "normal" 110-120 outlets - but I would recommend ones that are rated for 20amps. Then you can use regular PC power cords. S9's do not even require heavy duty power cords as at 220-240v - they are only drawing 6+ amps in that configuration. Now, I say 20 amps, because you want to figure an extra 10 per connection (plug to outlet) and you have to figure 80% of the rating for a constant load. So, a 15amp rated outlet should only have a constant load of 12amp ((15amp * .80 = 12amp) running through it. A 20amp rated outlet can have a 16amp load constant. So, if you have two S9s at 1500w each + 10% = 2*(1500*1.1) = 3300w at 240v = 13.75amp - below the 16amp constant load the 20amp outlet can handle - but over what a 15amp outlet can handle. This way, you can use the suggested power usage meters without having to wire in those inline models. This way, you can get one or two of the plug-in types to check different machines at different times. The inline would be much more of a pain to use for testing different units over time. Just my two cents! Again, just be careful not to plug regular 110-120v devices into these outlets - they will not be happy! - Also, this would require a 20amp breaker and the properly sized wiring from the breaker to the outlet as well. All must be considered. If your wiring and breaker can only handle 15amp - then don't run 2 S9-s from one outlet.

for me to use the 120v versions - I would have to replace all my outlets and all my power cords. My outlets/cords are L6-20P which does not match any of the meters that I have ever been able to find.
8732  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: My small (but growing) mining farm on: October 26, 2018, 01:30:57 AM
You don't believe that Bitmain ships early traunches of technology to select "very large" customers? They do for a fact. I also said if they don't already have it they will soon. Moreover, the switch from a 26 nm L3+ to an "L4" will most likely come before the "S11". Much cheaper and easier upgrade for the manufacturer. Having said that, I have an inside source that sells massive quantities of Commercial miners and he is buried in inventory from large mines clearing their shelves to make room for their "pre-orders ". So if not already....very soon. Bottom line is. Don't be in a hurry to buy Legacy Bitmain miners. They're about to get much cheaper.

I only say it because I have never seen anyone with a miner version before its released to the general public - outside of a few test models for people to test/review. Is it totally possible they do as you say? Yes. Heck - I wish I was one of them, I would kill to have a thousand or so of the new 7nm miners.

I am still hoping that Triple-1 pulls thru and releases theirs.
8733  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: New firmware for antminer S9 - less power consumption on: October 26, 2018, 01:27:45 AM
I've heard of people having issues with the November 17 firmware since it was released but I personally haven't had any issues with it except for a very few problematic miners that only run on fixed frequency.

well that makes sense then, the November one is not for miners with fixed frequency - at least that is how I understand it, as the other versions are for the fixed frequency miners.
8734  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: New firmware for antminer S9 - less power consumption on: October 25, 2018, 11:19:49 PM
This is amusing:

https://puu.sh/BR0Fs/051d5f93cd.png

I put a new controller into one of my early batch (maybe batch 1)  S9s (12.93 rated TH), upgraded to 1023, and pushed it until I started seeing issues, then backed down a bit.  e.g.  It has serious problems at 750, but not 725.  No other changes, no voltage tweaks, etc.

Basically those early models rock.

how much power is it pulling at that speed?
8735  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: My small (but growing) mining farm on: October 25, 2018, 11:07:24 PM
Be patient. Soon, you will be buying Brand New S9i's in the box WITH AP3++ PSU's for less than that. There is a virtual Tsunami of Brand new S9i's and S9j's hitting the secondary market. LOTS of Colo's are losing customers and their miner stock piles are sitting on the floors. Not to mention ensuing 7nm technology at our doorstep. I would go so far as to say, that some large Farms are already taking delivery, or are soon, of large blocks of the new tech from Bitmain. Legacy Technology is about to get VERY cheap.

I dont think anyone has anything from Bitmain yet related to 7nm.
8736  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: New firmware for antminer S9 - less power consumption on: October 25, 2018, 11:04:48 PM
Is everyone running Nov 17 auto-tune firmware with the LPM patch or is there a variety of firmware that causes the same result of decaying hash rate?  Also for CCG or others who are able to use the 10/22 LPM patch are you running the 10/22 or 10/23 LPM update?

what do you mean? doesnt the 10/23 firmware completely replace the prior version? I dont think they both are being used once you update to the LPM version.

The November firmware is the worst bitmain has ever released for the s9, I do not run it on my machines. non stop PIC flash errors and other weird problems. I have both the 10/22 and 10/23 fw running and I am seeing no difference. I will update again tomorrow and see what has changed.

I have had no issues at all with the November firmware - other than when the miners get cleaned, they have run nonstop since April with zero issues. I am currently using the 10/23 firmware as well right now. I dont have a way to measure the power consumption yet but I will for sure the difference in my next electric bill. I need to get inline meter set up asap as well.

I am confused when I see posts like this - why not take that cash and buy it on an exchange?

Because the op is a scammer

and that is how I tend to perceive it. glad to see I am not only one.

I also would suggest another pool then. Kano.is is a good one!

I’m landing second hand s9s for $250 shipped including psus and I’m at .067kwh moving to a new contract of .04kwh. Just because you make pennies a day off of s9s doesn’t mean everyone else does.

nice electricity price! I wish our industrial electricity was cheaper here - my electric company told me commercial and residential rates are the same. I have an acre of property adjacent to my homes property. Currently trying to get the electric company to install a transformer - If I can get that, I want to put up a decent size building and fill it with miners - both mine and as a co-location service to others. So, when I see people such as yourself doing this, it provides more encouragement to get mine going and off the ground. Mine is still smaller than yours but its getting larger - which is why I really need to expand to the adjacent property. anyways, keep up the good work and keep us posted on your progress!
8740  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [Awesome Miner] - Powerful Windows GUI to manage and monitor up to 10000 miners on: October 25, 2018, 12:29:06 PM

Your question about ASIC power usage is good, but no ASIC miner is reporting this as far as I know. There are other hardware devices that can measure power usage, but there are no specific support for those in Awesome Miner either.

True - the miner would need to report it in order for AM to reflect it, after all it is software not hardware. I am going to have to come up with something inline.
