I have put this fw on 5 machines so far and have seen almost no difference in power or hash, im really confused how you guys are getting so much out of it and im not

don't feel bad - mine do not have the c5 board and all it did was to slow them down almost half a TH/s - but without a way to measure the power consumption, I am not sure if that would be more efficient for me or not. I need to find a way to measure the power usage. I have seen ones that fit right in the plug for some plugs but never for the plug style I have (L6-20P).

not to sound to ignorant - but I gotta ask, is this just to crack btc addresses with the intent of stealing the btc ?

So is this suppose to lower everybodys hashrate so to bring difficulty down Huh

Some people are saying this bricks their antminer. So if you don't have the firmware saved before upgrading it this could be the case.

for the ones having issues, they may not have the compatible version of S9 - there are ones with specific C5 control boards that are not compatible.

They can always reinstall the prior version by downloading and updating to the old one.
8744  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: New firmware for antminer S9 - less power consumption on: October 23, 2018, 04:24:45 PM
how exactly do we turn the AsicBoost on/off? I set that LPM to be checked and my miners lost hash rate - dropped from 13.8 range to the 13.3 range. I do not have a way to measure power consumption though.

I then set the LPM to not be selected and miners increased back to 13.8 range.

Is the LPM selected going to give me a lower hash rate but at a higher efficiency so essentially more profitable?

ok so I got my GPU's and CPU's to work - but only if I add NiceHash to the Pools in the Profit Switching page - when I turn off Nicehash none of them will work and with Nicehash their hashrate is super low. If I log into Nicehash directly the hashrate is 5 times higher.
8746  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Antminer S9 Firmware Update Bitmain Release Overt AsicBoost 🤠 on: October 23, 2018, 12:58:35 PM

I have seen people post that they upgraded and were running just fine on Slushpool

Anyone knows the difference between "Low Power Mode" on or off at the total hashrate ? what reaches more?

with "low power mode"  selected, my S9's are getting a lower hash rate - I do not have a way to measure the power consumption though.

after a few more hours, the machines seem to running a little slower now. one is staying at 13.3 Typically, during the evening and over night they tend to run faster as it is cooler.

will need to keep watching - my pool average has dropped - used to be between 69-72 and now its 68-69 average.

I need to find a way to measure consumption - though I never measured them before so I wouldn't really have a good comparison.

I can say this, my shares have dropped on kano's pool. average was always usually between 4.2k to 4.5k but last 3 shifts are 3.8k to 3.9k

not sure if the drop in shares will be worth a few pennies savings on electricity. only time will tell as its been less than 12 hours I have had the new firmware running.
8749  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Antminer S9 Firmware Update Bitmain Release Overt AsicBoost 🤠 on: October 23, 2018, 01:24:47 AM
I have installed it on several of my S9's - I do not notice any increased hash rate and I do not have a way to measure the electric consumption other than waiting for my electric bill to see if it drops lol

Is there something specific you have to do to activate asicboost? Or is it automatic after flashing the firmware?

EDIT: I forgot to mention, I do see on the "Miner Configuration" tab a check box selection for "Low Power Mode" - is this what turns the AB on/off?

and is this supposed to lower hashrate along with lowering power consumption? or is it to increase hashrate while lowering power consumption? or to increase both?

I have it installed on several S9's (13.0 TH/s versions)- so far no issues. They are running at 74-77 C with average hash rate of 13.7 TH/s and with a .0007% HW rate after about half a day. I wish I had a way to measure the power consumption but I do not - I will just have to wait to see if my bill drops a bit lol.

I am curious to see about asicboost - have never used it previously so have to do some research as I have heard that you can do asicboost on the S9's

So one thing I've noticed since switching from Slush to Kano with my T1's and T2T's is a massive reduction in HW errors on these miners. On slush, I had to tune over and over to try and get reasonable (less than 100k HW errors per board per hour) error rates. On Kano, every single tune performed by my miners results in dramatically lower HW error rates, in the range of 10-20k per day total! I can't explain it, but I've noticed the hashrates on my AB machines are higher on average with Kano than they were on Slush.

that is a lot of hw errors - with over 20 days of uptime on this pool, I have less than 2k hw errors per machine. However, my average hash rate was higher with these 5 machines on slush than here. Average on slush was between 71-73. here my average is closer to 69. But I am still pleased with mining here as my average payout so far is even with slush with potential to exceed it if we get a few extra lucky blocks per month.

after last update, my GPU's will not mine - they are nvidia gtx 1060's

I am now getting this error - the pools are set up - I have made zero changes to the profit profile - I am not sure what else I need to do. When I first added the GPU's they worked right after I set up the pools - I had to do nothing with the profit profile.

There can be changes of the available predefined pools between versions.

In general, the issue is that for the mining software you have enabled for the profit switcher, there are no pools made available for the profit switcher in the Options dialog, Profit switching section. If you still run into this issue after reviewing the configuration you can find more information in the Awesome Miner log file (toolbar: Tools -> Log File).

You can for example see entries like below, that can give an idea why certain algorithms are being excluded by the profit switcher.
Ignore algorithms not supported by software:
Ignore algorithms not enabled by profile:

I will try to figure it out but I made zero changes to anything, all I did is upgrade the AM software and none of my gpu's or cpu's will work. When I initially added them, they worked and all I had to do was put my wallet address in the profit switching screen.  I never did anything on the profit profile screen.

I read earlier today that Bitmain releases patch to let Bitcoin Miners Activate "Overt AsicBoost" (whatever Overt means?) that should decrease power consumption with app. 13 %. This should apply to models R4, S9i, S9j, T9 and T9+. I have a standard S9 (January 2018 batch with autofrequency), but i thought that I check available firmwares from Bitmain website. To my surprise there has been released a new firmware today (20181022) for standard S9 which according to firmware info reduces power consumption. This makes me believe it refers to AsicBoost.

I just updated a few of my S9's to see if there is much difference. TBH I do not have a way to monitor each ones power consumption but if overall they use less I should see my electric bill drop a bit I hope lol

8756  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Need advise for transferring money overseas to buy BTC from the US on: October 20, 2018, 07:05:10 PM
Most sellers offer me more than 10% if I do Paypal. Even if I were a trader, it'd be also hard for me to do it because scammers can accumulate the payment up to 6 months for chargeback. I guess other escrow service is better

On localbitcoins, there are a few experienced overseas sellers (based on his ratings and transactions) with price listed as low as 6000.

why would they sell for 6k if they can very easily sell for more on an exchange? I dont get the point of selling for less. Is it to avoid having the transaction documented in an exchange?

yea I actually saw his videos right after I found this thread via google search. crazy as all get out...

Its odd that they would send a couple promo units out, and then screw the people with the promo units -- they could have scammed much better than this lol

As always never a dull moment in crypto

maybe it is because you all noticed that the hash rate was not legit. i mean it only hit 40 th on their "server" right?
8758  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AvalonMiner 921 released - 20 TH/s @ 1800W on: October 20, 2018, 04:47:51 AM
if the 921 is priced at $742/unit this shouldn't breach the 1k mark at all. Canaan is smarter than that.

nope - that would be a great price range. twice the price of an s9 should be the limit, higher price but better hash rate and efficiency should bring it close.
