Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

...
Currently, stratum.kano.is still points to both the Oregon and LosAngeles nodes.
So if you mine to stratum.kano.is you will randomly connect to either.
In a week I'll change stratum.kano.is to ONLY point to LosAngeles

So over the next week, anyone mining to stratum.kano.is, who would prefer to only mine to the Oregon nodes, should change their miner Pool0 config to say "stratum+tcp://or.kano.is:3333" instead of "stratum+tcp://stratum.kano.is:3333"

You don't have to change anything - but if you are mining to "stratum+tcp://stratum.kano.is:3333" and your miners are closer to Oregon than LosAngeles, you may get very slightly lower stales if you mine to "stratum+tcp://or.kano.is:3333"

Mine on! Smiley
A reminder that the week mentioned above is now up.

I've now changed stratum.kano.is to only point to the LosAngeles node

No one needs to change anything.
Active miners will continue mining to whichever node they are mining on.

However, from now if you connect a miner to stratum+tcp://stratum.kano.is:3333 it will be mining to the LosAngeles node

As mentioned above, if Oregon is closer for you, then use stratum+tcp://or.kano.is:3333 to connect to the Oregon node

Is that 2 fine blocks this morning. Second one is loaded nice.

Good way to wind down the nightshift. I won't even be mad if the block bot wakes me up with another.

Hi.

I remember Kano tested some AsicBoost equipment a while back. I haven't been very active here for a while so I missed the outcome.

So the question is can I mine at Kano with AsicBoost enabled?

The following should probably be in the S9 technical thread, but I put it here to let you know why I'm asking.

I read earlier today that Bitmain releases patch to let Bitcoin Miners Activate "Overt AsicBoost" (whatever Overt means?) that should decrease power consumption with app. 13 %. This should apply to models R4, S9i, S9j, T9 and T9+. I have a standard S9 (January 2018 batch with autofrequency), but i thought that I check available firmwares from Bitmain website. To my surprise there has been released a new firmware today (20181022) for standard S9 which according to firmware info reduces power consumption. This makes me believe it refers to AsicBoost.

If I can mine at Kano with AsicBoost and somehow do find out that I don't have a C5 control board (which according to firmware info isn't supported) I'll give it a try. Otherwise I will leave it alone, because changing pool is not an option.

Yes, Kanosan has written and fully tested the AsicBoost code and it works as flawlessly as you'd expect when coming from The Master.
Looking forward to updating my miners, too!  Wink

Depends on what miners you have.   If they're antminers, find the appropriate link in the forums here on Asicboost.

This sounds very interesting. Thanks for your answers.

Just looked a few pages back and also found the firmware for overclocking. Does anyone know if AsicBoost is enabled in xilinx-antminer-s9-s9i-1.0.7.2.tar.gz? Or in other words would it be more efficient to use the new S9 firmware or xilinx.

Also saw that S9i and j firmwares seems to work well on S9 autofrequency. I assume, however, that the new S9 firmware does the same.

Off topic again, but can anyone tell me how to figure out if I have the C5 control board and also does the xilinx work with C5?

So one thing I've noticed since switching from Slush to Kano with my T1's and T2T's is a massive reduction in HW errors on these miners. On slush, I had to tune over and over to try and get reasonable (less than 100k HW errors per board per hour) error rates. On Kano, every single tune performed by my miners results in dramatically lower HW error rates, in the range of 10-20k per day total! I can't explain it, but I've noticed the hashrates on my AB machines are higher on average with Kano than they were on Slush.

I just updated a few of my S9's to see if there is much difference. TBH I do not have a way to monitor each ones power consumption but if overall they use less I should see my electric bill drop a bit I hope lol
