sorry if this has already been answered but..  If i only buy 1 unit of the Gridseed, do I still need the "wiibox" controller, power supply, and USB hub?  Or can it be driven directly from my computer?

883  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Distribution of Wealth Detailing the BTC Holdings of Wallet Addresses on: February 10, 2014, 10:43:59 PM
Gotta say, those numbers are VERY surprising.  I would have expected way more holding 1000+ BTC based on early adopters.  I guess I'm not as late in the game as I thought.  Cool

Found this follow up article.  Seems to squash the bullshit Gox claim neatly.. Well done Gavin and Jeff.

He actually left to create FlappyBird, and when then took off, the pressure made him crack again.

Holy smokes, I was thinking the exact same thing today. So it must be true!

and no his last post wasn't some inspiring speech, or a teary goodbye.  It was rather routine.

"I'm leaving the -limitfreerelay part as a switch for now and it's there if you need it."

sounds like a secret farewell message to me! j/k

Question - What about the people who worked with him, like Gavin that was mentioned in the above post?  They didn't know is identity either, or they are swore to secrecy?

Article here: http://www.coindesk.com/price-drops-mt-gox-blames-bitcoin-flaw-withdrawal-delays/
Quote from coindesk article:

Quote
Mt. Gox offered two explanations for laymen and tech-savvy users. In essence, Mt. Gox says it identified a bug in the Bitcoin software that makes it possible for someone to use the network to alter transaction details, making it seem like bitcoins had not been sent to a bitcoin wallet, when in fact they had.

“Since the transaction appears as if it has not proceeded correctly, the bitcoins may be re-sent. Mt. Gox is working with the Bitcoin core development team and others to mitigate this issue,” Mt. Gox said.

The technical explanation is a lot more detailed.

It points out that bitcoin transactions are subject to a design flaw that has been largely ingored, although it was known to “at least a part” of the Bitcoin core development community. The defect is known as “transaction malleability” and it allows third parties to alter the hash of a fresh transaction without invalidating the signature. Mt. Gox explains:

“Of course only one of the two transactions can be validated. However, if the party who altered the transaction is fast enough, for example with a direct connection to different mining pools, or has even a small amount of mining power, it can easily cause the transaction hash alteration to be committed to the blockchain.”

The “sendtoaddress” API returns a transaction hash as a way to track the insertion of the transaction into the block chain. Since most wallet and exchange services keep a record of this in order to respond to users who make inquiries about their transactions, they could assume that the transaction was not sent – as it would not appear in the block chain with the original hash. For the time being, there is no way of efficiently recognizing alternative transactions.

“This means that an individual could request bitcoins from an exchange or wallet service, alter the resulting transaction’s hash before inclusion in the blockchain, then contact the issuing service while claiming the transaction did not proceed. If the alteration fails, the user can simply send the bitcoins back and try again until successful.”

Can someone more technical than myself please weigh in?

Thanks.

can the firmware be updated easily, or are early adopters outta luck?
889  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTCchina IS BACK, bank deposits restored!!! on: January 30, 2014, 06:22:55 PM
Can someone please explain what they are doing and why?  I guess they are creating volume but I don't fully understand the ramifications.  Sorry for the noob question.

Also firmware is available here if you need it

speed set right?

55nm set?

miner count set to 16?

Hi Studio.  I have a miner that is not hashing, hope you can help.  On the Cgminer Status screen the top Summary portion and section related to the Pools is loading but the bottom Avalon section says:

"This section contains no values yet"

On the Cgminer API page there are no stats coming from the Avalon units.

Any ideas?

I need to ask, what is the value of buying this miner? With only 300K Scrypt and 8G SHA256 what is the point?  We're talking over $62 per GH when looking at mining Bitcoin, that's insane.

Guys, can the mods PLEASE edit the first post indicating this is a SCAM?  For people who don't visit the forum often they could fall into this scam still (although of course the website is deactivated now).

I have a customer who's getting the following Cgminer API error on his 230G Avalon2 clone (by CCBMC).

[Firmware Version] => 20131110
cgminer: 176747f
cgminer-openwrt-packages: 0e12b1b
luci: 346e3e7
Socket connect failed: Connection refused

He has confirmed the following for me:

- using pool stratum.btcguild.com:3333
- configuration page looks good, no typos
- API Allow is correctly set to "W:127.0.0.1"
- he can ping out to stratum.btcguild.com and IP resolves correctly
- "cgminer" process is not currently running when we check Processes tab
- he has tried many other pools aside from btcguild with no luck

Any idea what the problem might be?  I tested the device before shipping and it was working fine.

Thanks for any help.  I have been reading that updating the firmware might help, but I'm not sure where to get the firmware.

Hi guys.  Okay we figured this out, although I'm still a bit confused.  The "broadcast" address in his LAN settings was 192.168.0.255 however he was on the 192.168.1.X subnet so the broadcast was incorrect.  However I checked my own 230G miner and it was configured the same, and working.  I'm thinking maybe re-saving the LAN settings kicked something into working.  Anyway, he is happy and it's hashing now.  Thanks for the help!

Also here is the link to updated firmware, in case anyone needs it, shared by user studio1one in another thread.

Does anyone know why they'd be able to release a BTC+LTC asic a lot easier than an exclusive LTC asic? There is a huge arms race right now in the LTC world for the first ASIC so I don't understand why these guys wouldn't go "all in" on a LTC asic.  They would be the first, and reap huge rewards for that.

Help!

My Avalon 4 Module has been humming away nicely. Overclocked at 350 on an OEM PSU.  Suddenly I am offline.

I can connect wirelessly to Luci and rebooted the system to no avail.

My API log is this:

cgminer: 698d677
cgminer-openwrt-packages: aadd747+
luci: 346e3e7+
Socket connect failed: Connection refused

I am trying to connect to btcguild.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Same problem here, also using BTCGuild with a 230G Avalon2 miner. Any ideas?

cgminer: 176747f
cgminer-openwrt-packages: 0e12b1b
