After the group stage than for me the competition has just begun because the filtering of the bigger boys must have been done and it's only the best who can get last that stage. The competition in the premier league is different from that which you find in the champions league so judging the performance of Manchester city in their domestic league and bringing it as a reason to why they have chances with the champions league may not be really good enough because we have bigger team who they will be facing outside the premier league pattern.
Manchester City still needs a lot of trophies to match Real Madrid's record and I don't think they are the only team that will be the only favorite candidate this season. The competition in the Champions League is still quite long and it takes a lot of preparation for any team to advance to the next round. Manchester City's performance last season and now is a little different because if we look at how they played last season it was a little more convincing to win the title. The gap is too big. Manchester city has owned 1 UCL trophy compared with real madrid which was 16 troohies. Will city able to consistently winning UCL till 16 years later? Ithat's impossible to happen. I think that it's quite irrelevant to think city is willing to match real madrid's record. Manchester city is just doing its best to make sure the club will able to defend its trophy and no more. I actually highly doubt that Manchester United is going to find themselves at the top of the table towards the end of the season.
