Am I the only one who thinks it's way too early for an ETF?
Regulators might need enough time to approve it for it to not be "too early" anymore once that actually happens  Wink

This will make it possible for investors who don't dare to (or can't) hold BTC or deal with "shady exchanges" to purchase and invest in bitcoin the most legitime way. If I understand this right, the winklevoss twins are essentially selling their bitcoins to an audience which normally wouldn't buy bitcoin. So all those coins sold to this group, means there are now less coins on the market. As new shares are issued and the winklevoss sells out, they will accumelate new USD which they can use to purchase back their original holdings and additional bitcoins.

It looks like a very bullish sign to me. The biggest concern is that it would probably take months or years to be approved by the regulators (if ever).

BTC doesn't need more speculators.  Speculators dump coins in panic the moment the market looks bad.  We need a fucking proper bitcoin economy that isn't based off the sale of drugs.
You're wrong. Speculators serves a very important function in the economy. They sell when something is overpriced and buy when undervalued, the more speculators the more stability. As more speculators are entering the game, their profit margins will decrease and we'll see increased stability.

800 BTC left and we'll break 16 months of higher lows. I'll admit it; I have removed my $88 bid.

*gulp*

I have placed my bid at $88, but not feeling too confident right now.

Bitcoin is doing mighty fine, around $100 per BTC, without Regulation.

Imagine how well it would do with regulation! Large investors might actually start to take it seriously.  Instead of thinking it to be play money.

earlier in the thread:

One those not simply... "regulate" bitcoin.

But take a look at how successful regulation has been on crypto-currencies competition: namly e-gold and liberty reserve. I would rate the regularity success to be 100%, as they are both dead.

The Libertarian nut jobs on this forum drove me so crazy at one point I said fuck this place.... The hardcore Porcfest Libertarians in TBF like Voorhees are going to end up Republicans if they keep making truckloads of money and going mainstream. It's a great treat to watch them slowly sell out their principals to be wealthy. I actually expect to see him on a platform next to a republican presidential candidate someday screaming "no new taxes". lol

Huh

I thought the whole idea of Libertarianism was less taxation (and hence government). Aren't they the opposite of socialists, closer idealogically to Republicans than Democrats in the American political scale?

Yes the Libertarian ideal is a lie. That's the joke. Libertarians are Republicans in disguise.

This is a good news for those interested in the bright future for bitcoin. But it's bad news for those interested in drug-dealing and mioney-laundering with btc. Don't you think at first these people will cash out?
They will just use btc-e or some other unregulated exchange.
912  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: US BITCOIN REGULATION "FOR" or "AGAINST" on: June 29, 2013, 01:49:13 PM
People who believe bitcoin should be regulated should just go back to use e-gold. It's fully legit now, maybe thats why nobody uses it.

Looks fantastic! The markup is currently a bit steep for my taste, but will be watching this.

Oh, just thought of something else.

Regarding my statement above, I would need to file that form...unless

Unless I export the bitcoins (value of $5K) to a wallet after purchasing. Then price doubles to $10K. But, the bitcoins are in my wallet, no longer in the account. So the account value never exceeded $10K. The value of my wallet did though!    Grin

Don't report it man... just don't....
