He seems so angry about Bitcoin.  I still don't understand that reaction.
His buddy told him to buy and hodl in 2011 and he said no. Also, he is part of the regime wholly responsible for debt enslavement of our my generation. He deserves to miss the boat.

Whoops. FTFM.

909  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: BTC price analysis after the January 31st Deadline on: January 28, 2014, 03:32:08 PM
@phr0stbyt3 Seriously? Where is that date from? Do you think it will ever make a comeback?

The date is directly from the peoples bank of China, "Companies currently offering services must end services by the Chinese New Year, a weeklong holiday that begins on Jan. 31, the newspaper cited Zhou Jinhuang, deputy director of payment clearance at the People’s Bank of China".

China is notoriously oppressive with their monetary system so in the grand scheme of things it could have been much worse. Something along the lines of "any citizen involved in the buying, selling or trading BTC will be imprisoned without a trial for a minimum of 10 years" would have had a terrible effect on the bitconomy. Some people seem to think that Chinas involvement is overrated but personally I think the price would be much lower without it. I'm eagerly awaiting more news from the PBOC to really decide if they "outlawed" it or not.
910  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Purchasing Large Amounts of BTC: Which Exchange is Best? on: January 28, 2014, 03:04:31 PM
I trust coinbase with my life but admittedly I have never bought a large sum of coins from them. Definitely worth looking into. I would recommend them especially if you're going to buy and hold as they are not technically an exchange in the traditional sense.
+1
I'd say you should take this route, rather than buying via local bitcoins (Your bank account will have a higher chance of getting frozen if you do)

Huh

How would your bank even know that you bought bitcoins?

I don't understand what you are saying.

Banks now have secret branches that report any sort of suspicious activity to the government. If the activity is suspicious enough they will freeze your account "pending internal review". Withdrawing any amount close to $10,000 would be considered suspicious. I'm just assuming from the title that "large amount of btc" constitutes around $10,000 but I could be wrong.
911  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: $100 SPREAD BETWEEN MTGOX AND BITSTAMP (AND BTC-E) on: January 28, 2014, 03:01:34 PM
MTgox price is higher, but it doesn't matter as you can not withdraw fiat in a timely manner. Many users experience weeks delays with their withdrawal requests for USD or EUR. On the other hand Bitstamp and btc-e are very efficient when it comes to wire transfer withdrawals. It take 24-72 hours max for the money to reach the account.

The last time I tried to withdraw fiat from gox back in late 2012 it took about 10 weeks. I can only imagine how long the wait is today.
912  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Why MTGOX/BITSTAMP gap increase so much this week? on: January 27, 2014, 10:06:59 PM
It increase so rapidly. Is it a sign that MT is going to bankrupt very soon?

Maybe...

I think that's what everyone is thinking and not saying.
913  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: BTC price analysis after the January 31st Deadline on: January 27, 2014, 09:29:24 PM
I thought people had heaard about it enough that I don't need to cite it anymore. January 31st is the last day payment companies and banks are allowed to deal in bitcoin.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-12-17/china-bans-payment-companies-from-clearing-bitcoin-news-says.html

You left out something very important: "January 31st is the last day payment companies and banks are allowed to deal in bitcoin in China."
914  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Highend MOBO for 3 GPU's? on: January 27, 2014, 09:07:23 PM
I'd recommend ASUS for ultimate reliability. Gigabyte would be a close second followed by MSI. You could probably find some decent motherboards to use for 3x GPU without even using riser cables. This ASUS Crosshair V motherboard mines for me without having to use riser cables. Very nice.

At the time of writing this the spread between mtgox and bitstamp/btc-e is greater than $200.

Is gox really that insolvent?

917  Economy / Economics / Re: [CHART] Correlation Between Bitcoin Price and Difficulty on: January 20, 2014, 11:46:36 PM
I mine....and I have grown to the point that I can't believe this is happening. Its quite profitable.

People always say this but never provide the numbers to back it up. Please show me how profitable it really is. How much did you pay for your equipment (in bitcoins)? What is your hash rate? How much have you mined so far?

I spent $65,000 (65 BTC) for a 60 GH/s single upgrade.
Technically back in September I only spent $700 based on the exchange rate, but you see the problem here right?

Mining is definitely not profitable.

Ok, why did you not buy the miner for $700 and mine a whole bunch of bitcoins which would be worth quite a bit today? At the end of the day, I think and I hope BTC will continue to rise in value.

I guess I should clarify this.

I pre-ordered from BFL and we all remember that debacle. Unless a unit is -IN STOCK, ASSEMBLED, READY TO SHIP TODAY- then it probably isn't worth it from a breakeven BTC standpoint. I spent 65 BTC on miners that would never mine 65 BTC. We can postulate that if they were in stock at the time that -maybe- they would have made close to 65BTC, but the nature of mining is diminishing returns at its finest. Every difficulty change yields less and less. If you have any question about this just fire up the genesis block; insert some conservative figures for shits and giggles and you'll still never see a positive BTC return. With all the new mining manufacturers and die shrinking we are probably facing another 1000x difficulty increase very soon. I will absolutely -never- pre-order a miner ever again, and if I happen to have spare cash I will just buy BTC instead from now on. YMMV but that's just my two satoshis.
918  Economy / Speculation / Re: January 31st Impact on Bitcoin on: January 19, 2014, 05:52:29 AM
The opposite will happen, sadly for you and your ridiculous attempt to cause panic, OP.

At the end of this month there will be more excited press around the New York hearing.

Money follows attention.
919  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Buy CPU, GPU, SSD etc From Amazon.Com with Bitcoins WITH DISCOUNT + ESCROW on: December 31, 2013, 07:42:05 AM
Sold a GPU to phr0stbyt3. Taking more orders  Grin

I did indeed receive a brand new sealed EVGA GTX770 exactly as described quite quickly I might add. Would love a proof of purchase so I can qualify for step-up program.
