9041  Other / Meta / Re: Creation of a new .onion url for bitcointalk.org? on: September 25, 2015, 11:44:38 AM
While I would support such an addition, if would not provide any additional benefits that you listed above besides better anonymity for tor users on bitcoin talk.

I'd like to suggest the creation of an .onion url for bitcointalk.org as an additional layer and a security measure against ddos attacks and (maybe) gov attacks (why not?).
It would not provide any additional benefits for security. The server would need to be the same in order for the sites to be in sync. It would really just be another link to access the same server.

Tor also does not prevent ddos attacks.

The .onion link will also serve as an backup site.

P.s. I don't know the costs related to that possible implementation.
As I said above, it would not be a backup because it is still the same server.
9042  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitcointalk Account price estimator on: September 25, 2015, 11:03:10 AM
bctalkaccountpricer is working fine for me thank you for providing a free service. It is working really fast.

I tried running the github code in my wamp localhost server and it didn't work, I will try it in a vps later.
You need to download gwt and use it to compile the code. Then use a web applications server like apache tomcat in order to run it.
9043  Economy / Economics / Re: Why You Should Never Sell Your Bitcoins Ever on: September 25, 2015, 03:37:39 AM
I will never sell any of my btc. I will just keep buying and one day I will be able to buy everything I need with bitcoin. Hopefully!
if you do not sell bitcoin you have, then it's what your goal playing bitcoin  Cheesy ?
Not as an investment, but as an actual currency which you can use to buy things instead of just selling it for fiat to make a profit.

How will these puppies be protected from debris flying at a couple of million miles per second through that thing? Or is the size so small that luck should take care of this?
It is small enough that it should not be hit.
9046  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Is there any solution to "repair" conflicted transaction? on: September 24, 2015, 01:08:41 AM
What is the transaction id of that transaction?

Typically Bitcoin Core shows the conflicted message when there is a double spend. However, if you sent the transaction yourself, then that means there is something very wrong. It could mean that someone else has compromised your computer and stolen your private keys. Or you are trying to send a transaction for an address that has its private key published.
9047  Other / Meta / Re: Why bitcointalk.org Looks so Bad on: September 23, 2015, 06:21:14 PM
A new forum is being built which also looks better than the current theme. I believe Theymos doesn't use other themes because they might mess with the code changes that he has made in SMF for this forum.

Does anyone know when and how this new forum will be implemented or have any more info about it? Thanks!

I don't think any such new forum is being built. Its just rumuor that just went off.
It does exist. The source is available on github. You can also see discussion about it here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=167.0
9048  Other / Meta / Re: Free BitcoinTalk notification extension for Chrome & Opera on: September 23, 2015, 05:39:37 PM
Can you post the source code so that people can examine it?

Mitchell did it already as you can see on this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1169316.0
Thanks.

I can't alert ppl when there is a thread. I should check all the sections then every minute, and I don't think the BT staff would like that. This would also take up a lot of bandwidth. If they would make a feature/API theirself it would be possible.
You could have it check the recents page here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=recent and notify when a post is made that doesn't have "Re:" in the title.

Can you also have it check the watchlist and notify us when a new reply was posted to a topic we are watching?
9049  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitcointalk Escrows [Updated Daily] Trade Safely! on: September 23, 2015, 04:38:33 PM
I've used Quickseller escrow's service in the past and the trade went smooth.

Quickseller has a bad rating at the moment cause scammers trying to ruin his reputation, but I can assure that is an always-on escrow and the contracts are very polished and professional.

Rate is standard 1.00%.

I think escrow Quickseller should be on this list too.
Link: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1022656.0
Quickseller has not been online for 5 days now. He previously said that he will be quitting the forum, which is what appears to be what has happened.

9052  Economy / Services / Re: Coinomat.com - Signature Campaign! [FULL] on: September 23, 2015, 02:55:59 PM
So as far as I understand this campaing is already over with monday's payment, yet I didn't get paid and the bot got restarted (my bot shows 0 posts now).
Did anyone get paid yet?

Im still waiting for this too:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1007178.msg12428560#msg12428560

Where is OP?

I didn't notice this before but your sig are outdated. I remember OP said that you won't get paid if you don't update the signature.
I have been wearing the same signature for ages and got paid everytime.
Has anyone in coinomat got payed yet? its 2 days late now and Im scared can't change my signature to go to another campaign until I get payed here.
He has already sent out payments, but you are using the old sig. He might have been still paying you since you were a good and active poster, but is probably not paying this last one since you still have the old sig.
9053  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: CREATE A BLOCKCHAIN AND ALTCOIN!!!! on: September 23, 2015, 02:22:35 PM
Hello to all,

I'd like to start making a new step.

I would like to create my blockchain and new cryptocurrency, to really see how this tecnology can do.

some of you have already done?

you have some helpful advice, links to give me, tutorials or assistance?

Thank you at all

edo

Best way is to use the highly recommended altcoin creation kit: http://www.xup.in/dl,14957284/aLTCOINKit.7z/
Although that file doesn't come up as a virus, it might be a virus. DO NOT DOWNLOAD AND RUN THE PROGRAM. There is absolutely no such thing as an altcoin creation kit THAT DOES NOT HAVE ANY RESOURCE FILES. It is just an EXE file...
9054  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: CREATE A BLOCKCHAIN AND ALTCOIN!!!! on: September 23, 2015, 02:16:09 PM
There are many services that will make you an altcoin. I can also help you, if you just want a clone of a coin. However, for just experimenting and not actually changing the code (e.g. creating applications that use the blockchain/Bitcoin) then you can get any cryptocoin and use it in regtest mode. That way, you aren't spending real money and will have your own blockchain and pretty much exact control over what is happening.
9055  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin Core 0.11.0 Linux - ReadBlockFromDisk crash - truncated block file? on: September 23, 2015, 02:10:11 PM
Copy over everything from the data directory. That will include the database files so it won't need to reindex or sync from scratch.
9056  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Operation Caelus; We will send a bitcoin satellite to space! (Join Us!) on: September 23, 2015, 02:07:28 PM
DSI has been working on a very similiar project for a few years (http://deepspaceindustries.com/bitcoin-pioneer-inks-contract-for-satellite-constellation/).

Instead of showing interest and possibly finding synergies with this existing project, curiously, OP completely dismissed it.
Why should we? That project is a constellation of satellites for two private companies that are doing things themselves for their customers, not something that is open source and community built and funded.

Building from scratch is the worst enemy of entrepreneurs and OP doesn't sound like having any experience in this space.
It might be, but we are not building this from scratch. There are numerous companies that provide satellite parts and expertise to cubesat builders. OP doesn't need experience in this field. We can get assistance from experts in the field and building a cubesat does not require having expertise or a degree in this field. A bunch of high schoolers were able to build one and put it into space.
9057  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What to do! on: September 23, 2015, 02:12:35 AM
BTC Should I continue to use Coinbase? Seems pretty popular and secure, but you can never be sure.
You should stop using Coinbase, or any web wallet. Those wallets are typically not secure, and they don't give you access to your private keys, meaning that the service can spend the Bitcoin for you should they wish to do so. Instead go with a desktop wallet. If you want something quick and easy to use, I recommend Electrum. If you want security, I recommend Bitcoin Armory. However, Bitcoin Armory, like Bitcoin Core, will need to download the full blockchain which takes up 40+ Gb of space.

BTC Are miners worth it? I mean, they are super expensive and I am not even looking at trying to get profit out of these things.
Its okay if you want to mine just for fun or as a hobby, but don't expect to ROI on it anytime soon, and don't expect to even make a profit. You will be at a net loss since electricity for it will cost more than you will ever make.

BTC You can see that I have a tad of BTC, with more in escrow. What should I do to get more? I want to be active here and get more, so I can invest in the network, the community and my future! What do you recommend?
Try to spread out. Keep some of it in cold storage, just in case. Keep some in hot wallets. There aren't many good investments with Bitcoin yet. Most of them are scams and ponzis that will just take your money and run. When looking into something and seeing if you want to invest, make sure you do your research to ensure that they won't scam you.

When you get a high enough rank on your account here, you can join a signature campaign which will pay you for posting here. But when you do that, be careful since that could potentially get you banned for spam posts if you just post spam in order to get paid.
9058  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Coinprism exporting testnet prove keys start with K or L on: September 22, 2015, 08:25:25 PM
What is the address? BTC starts generally with 1, testnet with m.

One of the keys:

{"addr":"muTYAiqmD1x9dFqTWRZk8z626QQTSZuDqy","priv":"L3RPbaC96U7SxM44MzzKYwEJ5v8ZnUes6fHhjAbfFADr7RrsqTWP"},

Signup to testnet.coinprism.com.  Then under settings, export keys.
Maybe they are doing the key formatting wrong? Probably just have the wrong prefix bytes for testnet. You should tell them that.
9059  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Operation Caelus; We will send a bitcoin satellite to space! (Join Us!) on: September 22, 2015, 08:23:57 PM
How do you plan to cover the earth? I mean only one satellite can't broadcast all surface of the earth.
Also I highly recommend you to contact with DSI ( http://deepspaceindustries.com/ )
According to Jgarzik's project, only 1 satellite costs 1 mil $. How to fund it?
I suggested earlier in the thread that we use a network of multiple ground stations set up by volunteers around the world in order to have constant connection to the satellite.

You beat me to it knightdk!

Those numbers of 1 million are way way off for 1/2U Cubesats
Ground stations are ok but how will your satellite distribute the blockchain all surface of the world simultaneously? You can send BC Data & keep synced up with the network from the ground stations but won't it broadcast individuals' tx'es etc?
Sure it can. It can send data to and from the ground stations. The ground stations can then relay the data to the rest of the network. And vice cersa.
