9241  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: About Bitcoin Fee on: January 07, 2017, 05:03:51 PM
In the past, you could also get zero-fee transactions to confirm. However, this is no longer the case today. The fee included will impact the time it takes for your TX to get included in a block (confirmed).

You should pay the fees while sending BTC from an address to another and nothing else as for how much then
I'll build upon your reply here. OP, this purely depends on the size of your transaction, not the amount being transferred! The usual contributing factors are the number of inputs and number of outputs that your transaction has.  A standard TX has 1 input and 2 outputs (the address that you're sending to and the change address). The formula for calculating the size is:
Quote
180bytes per input + 34 bytes per output + 10 bytes +- 'input'
For the standard TX (as mentioned above) this gives us 258 bytes +- 10 bytes.

I suggest taking a look at : https://bitcoinfees.21.co/ It contains pretty much everything in details.
Once you know the transaction size, you can use the information available here (although their estimate may be too high at times) to figure out what the recommended fee is. The TX that I've mentioned (~258bytes) would require a fee of ~25 800 satoshis.

If you tell us which wallet you are using, we may be able to give you even better advice.

Fees depends on what your wallet is.
False. It doesn't depend on your wallet. Proper wallet let's you choose the fee that you want, and the required fee is determined by the free market (i.e. number of unconfirmed TX and the fees that people are using).

Afaik the normal fee for transactions to get it to a priority is 90 satoshi/ byte like 25k satoshi fee shoul be enough for your confirmation to be confirmed fast if tere is no traffic in blockchain.
If there is 'no traffic in blockchain', then the fee would be much lower than that. You are aware that most Bitcoin blocks have been full for quite some time now? There is always traffic (number of unconfirmed TX is variable though).

You can put a custo fee on your transaction if your wallet allows it to but normally you will just have to choose between sending it with 10k sats - 15k sats - 25k sats to 30k sats as fees.
Fixed fees are a horrible idea. The fee rate in satoshis/byte is what matters.

This post was likely removed because it was horrible and misleading.
9242  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: About Collision on: January 07, 2017, 03:01:11 PM
lauda as not only a moderator, but as a sig campaign organiser yourself. you could and should just report him to his sign campaign manager and lose him his earning status. that would shut him up
I've already done that, thank you for the heads up though.

Let's get back to the interesting stuff, shall we?

if 2 people have an cat (same address) in a box (wallet address pool of 20-100 addresses yet to be used) but cannot yet see if its an active address ready to jump out and walk around (collide and be spent by other person) or not.. ...  have they yet collided.. Cheesy
This is actually a very good thought experiment, with the analogy to Schrodinger's cat and quantum uncertainty. I would still be inclined to say that the collision occurred even though it was not observed by anyone. Do collisions that have no impact or have not been noticed by someone matter? I would say no. Even though the chances of one are extremely improbable, it may happen without someone noticing one.

there has already been a few bad RND collissions. so yes collissions have happened and will happen
Standard random generators are quite useless for cryptography indeed. For better randomness, one could attempt to map data from some naturally occuring events (aside from the traditional method of using cryptographically safe PRNG e.g. ChaCha20)
9243  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: About Collision on: January 07, 2017, 02:44:00 PM
-snip-
Your post is a classic example of a useless shitpost. Please stop responding in threads where the subject is out of your league.

Gmaxwell and others have been advising against brainwallets for a reason... they are not and will never be safe.
-snip-
That was not the reason, the reason was and is that humans are bad at producing sufficient entropy for the brainwallet to be random (see the post by franky). This is true for the security of all wallets, if the entropy source sucks a collision is (significantly) more likely.
This should probably be watched by anyone who wants to use a brainwallet: DEF CON 23 - Ryan Castellucci - Cracking CryptoCurrency Brainwallets. He even posted an update (not entirely sure if the account is genuine):

Quote
Ryan Castellucci 6 days ago
The current release of brainflayer is much faster than what I released at DEFCON. Currently, it's only $40 to check 1 trillion passphrases on AWS, which works out to 25 billion per dollar.
9244  Other / Archival / Re: Updated Overview of Bitcointalk Signature-Ad Campaigns on: January 07, 2017, 02:23:33 PM
Because it adds another dimension to the table which makes it more complex.
I find the current table rather very simple.

I also argued that the information is only useful to a small subset of posters. We are catering at posters here after all. Why does it matter whether or not the campaign uses SMAS or not?
I have not tried arguing that the addition of a 'SMAS tag' would be useful (read the end of my response). I've actually accepted that it would most likely not be a good idea (based on the responses).
9245  Other / Meta / Re: Moderators, A good laugh won't hurt you. on: January 07, 2017, 01:54:54 PM
Please can I have my thread unlocked to gain more insight?  Chris and I discussed this little controversy and we both appreciate the sincere, albeit blunt feedback, received so far.

Lori Brown
If I remember correctly, some spammer (s) responded after achow with an useless post. Due to this, the post(s) in question was removed and the thread locked. Achow has pretty much answered the thread to the fullest extent. Unless you have further questions, or searching around the forum doesn't help you, then it should not be unlocked IMO.

This is the thread that the OP is talking about: Nodes: good idea for a beginner or not?.
9246  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: sigs2sell is a scammer on: January 07, 2017, 01:06:33 PM
Of course I should have used escrow. I have pm'd 2 forum members for it without response and decided to go on with half payment up front. I'm not saying I was wise. On the contrary. But still I was scammed.
You need to be patient and ask several escrows. There are some that don't prefer dealing with physical items.

A newbie don't really care about a negative trust because his account already don't have value. he just done his work (scam) and now he'll create another account to prefer another scam attempt.
I'm not sure why you're telling me this. Boosting your post count? Roll Eyes
9247  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: sigs2sell is a scammer on: January 07, 2017, 12:58:41 PM
OP, whilst getting scam is an unfortunate event, this is solely your own fault. You should know better than to deal with new users without escrow, especially when they request payment upfront.

I have tagged the account in question, but I highly doubt that we are going to hear from him again (at least not from the same account).
9248  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Is trezor the safest way to keep coins!? on: January 07, 2017, 11:33:01 AM
I saw many discussions on here talking also for offline wallets..papper wallets or cloud ones.
Wich one is the best ?
Cloud wallets will never be safe. Offline wallet and paper wallets would be the safest if you spend them correctly.
It is highly likely that OP read some threads where spammers are spewing nonsense that wallets such as 'blockchain.info' are good, while in fact they are horrible and should be avoided.

OP, reading this thread may give you more insight and introduce you to more options: [General] Bitcoin Wallets - Which, what, why?. Generally, if you don't want to spend money on a dedicated wallet, you don't need to. The first step is to use a desktop client rather than a web wallet.
9249  Other / Archival / Re: Updated Overview of Bitcointalk Signature-Ad Campaigns on: January 07, 2017, 10:15:17 AM
The color coding is such a useful idea that it can be used for other things as well like (a.) Warning for likely scam in PNYC (b.) Color assignment for different campaign managers; no color if there's no hired manager.
Indeed. I've been using it for a while in the [User Generated] - Known alts of anyone thread. There are plenty of options to save space by using colors.

Do we really need to cram more information into the table? This is supposed to be an overview, which is why the detailed section was removed.
I don't see why not if the information is useful (not saying that this would be).

This will help the spammers a lot, they can pick easily the best non-SMAS campaigns to join without being worried about the rejection of their candidacy
Definitely NO.
Fair point. I just wanted to see what the others thought about it and it seems that it isn't a good idea. Time to forget about it.

9251  Other / Meta / Re: [Controversial] Who's to blame when an account gets hacked? on: January 06, 2017, 11:50:59 PM
In the case that the lender did not check whether there were password / email changes and/or request a signed message, I would blame the lender as per option:

Quote
The lender. They should have asked for a signed message.

Otherwise I'm inclined to vote for:
Quote
Both should take responsibility and each pay half of the damages.

There is no way for someone to become 'unhackable' as there are differentiating and sophisticated (targeted) approaches. In case someone used a very weak password, it would be a nice gesture to admit this and pay the caused damages.
9252  Economy / Services / Re: BitDice Casino Signature Campaign [WILL START 1 DECEMBER] on: January 06, 2017, 11:28:43 PM
BitDice signature campaign is very different from other campaign i do not know that why Boxxob manager creating problem for his member please learn from other senior manager and respect to your campaign member , first of all learn about that how to manage a campaign and then manage your campaign i think destroying your project and signature campaign so please stop these thing and dont create problem for your member .   Shocked
I don't understand how is it wrong to not allow certain kind of posts?
It is most certainly not wrong. This is just yet another spammer that can't deal with the standard campaign rules / put enough effort into actually posting. Post-bursting will get you permanently blacklisted from Bitmixer & SMAS in most cases.

Has anyone even actually looked at the details? I have contacted each and every person I had a problem with personally via PM and treated them with respect in each and every case. I denied burst posts. What is the big deal?
You've done nothing wrong. In fact, you're actually wasting your time replying personally to most of them.

Just shrug off invalid complaints and move on. PM me a list of those names as well.
9253  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: New computer - how to transfer wallet? on: January 06, 2017, 10:50:04 PM
Thanks Lauda.
I have put Bitcoin core onto the new PC and it is sync-ed up to date. Do I have to wait for the old/current one to sync before I can copy or will that not matter?

Cheers
No. Just please make sure that the software is not running when you try to copy files and/or make changes to anything. Shut down Bitcoin Core on both the old and the new PC, copy the wallet.dat into the same directory on the new PC and start Bitcoin Core.

Don't forget to create a backup this wallet.dat in case that something goes wrong!
9254  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: New computer - how to transfer wallet? on: January 06, 2017, 10:42:08 PM
Hello.
If you are using Windows, then the default data directory for Bitcoin Core should be in either:
C:\Users\YourUserName\Appdata\Roaming\Bitcoin (Vista and 7 / 8 / 10)
C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\Application data\Bitcoin (XP)

If you are using Linux, then it should be located in:
~/.bitcoin/

The file that you need to copy is called 'wallet.dat'.

We have a Bitcoin Core wallet which is taking FOREVER to synchronise with the network on the old PC.
This is because Bitcoin Core is a full wallet, i.e. it requires you to download and verify the whole blockchain.
9255  Other / Meta / Re: About change Nickname on: January 06, 2017, 10:39:56 PM
Why when I PM blazed does it say Blazedout0419 ? (something like that) but wherever I see his name besides the search user PM function, it is Blazed
That's because they were granted a display name change. When you PM someone who has had their name changed in one way or another, their username will be displayed. If you attempt to PM me, you will get 'LaudaM'.
9256  Economy / Service Discussion / [Forum / Campaign] Why have I been banned? Posting guidelines. on: January 06, 2017, 10:19:25 PM
Why am I banned from my signature campaign / the forum?

If you have been referred to this thread. then it is likely that you have been either breaking campaign or forum rules which could lead to your account being negatively affected (for example, negatively rated and/or banned).

The following guide is intended to inform you what is and isn't acceptable on Bitcointalk when posting. It is suggested that you read and apply this information to your posting habits in order to avoid any negative consequences. To begin, let's go over some definitions that will likely be used around the forum

Definitions
Low Quality Posts:
These are usually posts that do not add enough to a discussion to warrant them being there. Obvious examples of such posts include:
  • "Thanks",
  • "I agree",
  • "+1",

However, these are not the only cases of low quality posting. Other examples of low quality posting may include:
  • Repeating points already made in the thread,
  • Repeating answers to questions that have already been answered,
  • Posts with extremely poor English that are borderline unreadable to most users,
  • Posts that do not add anything to the topic of discussion.

In addition, the quality of posts is not necessarily increased by length. Posts should include only things that are relevant to the discussion as stated by the OP and should be straight to the point. Anything else wastes the time of the reader. Keep all of this information whilst posting. If any part of your post fits these criteria, do not post it.

One Liners:
While posts should be straight to the point and not contain any irrelevant information, this does not mean that all posts should be short and posted in mass. 'One liners' usually refer to posts that are short, of low quality and/or posted very quickly. If the majority of your posts are similar to this:
Quote
Buy bitcoin. You will be rich one day.
Quote
Hoildy. I'm fine with being free.
Quote
I'm cool today
Quote
Some 20k satoshi

These posts are not acceptable here. If the majority of your posts look similar to these, your account is likely to be banned if you continue.

Post Bursting:
Post bursting refers to making a lot of posts in an extremely small amount of time (for example, several posts within the space of a minute).
Posts made in such a small amount of time are unlikely to have had much, if any, effort put into this. A direct result of this is that the posts are usually both low quality and one liners.

Copy Pasting:
Copy pasting refers to posts that have been directly copied from another source (for example, an external website or a previous post). This by itself isn't bad, unless they are randomly posted by you without context or without quoting a source (as this usually results into plagiarising.

Necro Posting:
Necro posting is when a post is made to a topic that has been inactive for a large period of time or when the question/subject has already been answered/resolved. While these posts are not against the rules themselves, the majority of these are of a low quality, which are not allowed. Necro posts will almost always be deleted.

Giveaway / Off-topic spam:
If your account is mainly used to claim giveaways (twitter or from the games and rounds section) or mainly posts in the off-topic section in generic threads, then that is a sign of a low quality poster or account farmer. You are very likely to get blacklisted from campaigns for this kind of behavior.

If your posts fit into any of the definitions stated above it is highly suggested that you stop and change your posting habits. Failing to do so will likely result in your account getting banned from either the signature campaign that you're in and/or from Bitcointalk.

Frequently Asked Questions

My account has been banned from a signature campaign. Can I be unbanned?
This depends on the severity of your offense, the campaign rules / manager and whether you improve afterwards.
Some campaigns offer review periods after a certain amount of time. You should use this time wisely to analyze what you did wrong and try to improve. Further infractions may cause you to get permanently banned from a campaign and even get banned from the forum.

I am still being paid for my posts by my Signature Campaign, does that mean they are alright?
Not necessarily.
The rules that your signature campaign can differ from the rules of the forum. If you are making low quality posts and are still being paid, it may be that the manager of your campaign does not know or care about this. This does not give you a pass to continue posting.
If your posts or account fit any of the criteria mentioned above it is highly suggested that you stop what you are doing and attempt to fix it. Failure to do this may result in forceful removal from your signature campaign and/or the forum through negative trust feedback and/or an account ban.

My account has been banned from the forum. Can I be unbanned?
This depends on the severity of your offense. Most offences are punished with a temporary ban which will be lifted automatically after a set amount of time. If you continue to break forum rules you will be permanently banned without a change of being unbanned again.

My account has been banned from the forum. Can I continue to post with another account?
No. You, as a person, are banned from this forum, not just that account. Attempting to get around a ban by using another account is ban evasion. If you are caught to be doing this, any accounts related to you will be permanently banned.

The only exception to this rule is to request information about or appeal your ban in the Meta subforum. You may create one topic where you must state your account name and any information you would like to request about your ban. This topic must stay about your ban and nothing else, otherwise it will be locked. You may not open another topic and you are no longer welcome at Bitcointalk. In addition, you are not allowed to post outside of this topic at any time, as that means you are ban evading.

How can I improve my posting quality?
In order to improve your post quality the following ideas should be applied to your posts.

You should only respond in boards provided you can speak their language fluently.
A lot of the time poor use of language can be seen as low quality posting. If you aren't fluent in English to a point where you can clearly say what you want to, please stick to the Local Board of your language and follow the other tips until you believe you are.

Read a lot more than you write.
This forum is for both sharing your opinions and listening to others. You should always read a significant amount more than you write on the forum as it helps you understand others, this forum and Bitcoin better. In addition, if you do cannot speak a specific language well enough to express yourself properly reading posts from those who can is a good way of gaining the knowledge to do so.

Use the Search function.
If you are asking a question about a specific subject related to Bitcoin, it is possible that it has already been asked. In order to prevent yourself from repeating what others have said, use the forums search page to see if it has already been asked. If so, it is possible that the information that you need has already been posted. This decreases clutter on the forum and proves the overall experience, as people don't like repeating things.

Post because you want to, not because you 'have' to.
Regardless of whether you are being paid for your posts or not, you should only post on the forum if you have found a topic that interests you or/and you would like to give your opinion. Getting bitcoin for posting should be seen as a bonus, not a job. If you are posting only to get paid, it is possible your posts are of low quality and could result in your earning capabilities being removed. Remember, a signature campaign is a privilege, not a right.

Avoid responding in generic threads with a huge number of replies.
Threads such as: "What would you do if you had X Bitcoin", "Can Bitcoin help poor countries", "Is Bitcoin 'real money' to you" and similar tend to have very little to no constructiveness in them in addition to a big number of replies. You are very likely to respond with something that has already been said in a similar fashion anyways. Threads like this are also very prone to being removed as they contain so much spam.

(the only way around this is to let small inputs age for a few years).

Miners aren't paying much attention to the age of inputs these days, especially since they're likely all aware that the priority status for a given input will be removed from the code by the end of the year (slated for version 0.15).

The new rules arn't in force yet though, are they? Which means the old rules about priority still stand. If OP's output is made up of lots of fairly young inputs, that's the reason he is having trouble.
Incorrect:
Quote
The mining of transactions based on their priority is also now disabled by default. To re-enable it, simply set -blockprioritysize=<n> where is the size in bytes of your blocks to reserve for these transactions. The old default was 50k, so to retain approximately the same policy, you would set -blockprioritysize=50000.
https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/blob/v0.12.0/doc/release-notes.md#relay-and-mining-priority-transactions

The miners can factor in priority if they want, but they do not have to. If I'm correct, most miners in fact do not use priority nowadays.

@OP: Post your TX ID or the fee rate (as suggested by Carlton). In case that you don't know how to make this trivial calculation, post the transaction size in addition to the fee included.
