18 days since polo stole 1.83 bitcoin from my wallet and dont answer my tickets

Why is this always from newbie accounts? Do you not want to use your main one or did you just google this thread?

Just an FYI alot of N00b accounts just spread FUD so no one is going to take you serious.

I'm pleased to hear that subaddresses are on the roadmap.  Sounds like it might be a little clumsy to use them, however:

One slight caveat with this scheme is that when restoring a wallet from the seed, the wallet might miss transfers to subaddresses if they aren't stored in the hashtable yet. To mitigate this issue, for each account, the wallet generates 100 (a constant SUBADDRESS_LOOKAHEAD_MINOR defined in wallet2.h) subaddresses of indices beyond the "fresh" index. The wallet also generates 10 (a constant SUBADDRESS_LOOKAHEAD_MAJOR defined in wallet2.h) accounts beyond the current largest major index. This means that the wallet restoration process is guaranteed to find incoming transfers to subaddresses as long as the major and minor indices of the used subaddresses differ by less than those predefined numbers. Even if the differences are bigger than those, you can still make the wallet recognize the incoming transfers by just expanding the hashtable manually and rescanning the blockchain.
(from https://github.com/monero-project/monero/pull/2056)

It sounds a little bit like the way Bitcoin handled change addresses many years ago, before the advent of HD address generation.  Have a table of pre-generated addresses, and make sure you don't run out of them.  It would be nice to have a more elegant solution for monero subadresses, one that eliminates inconvenience and complication.

Thanks for pointing this out, for years I never knew this was an issue as I only use a few addresses and all of them are on sites except one.

Because you don't want people to be able to associate you with that anonymous identity by Googling your address, you'd want to use separate wallet addresses for these two purposes. While you can easily do so by simply creating two wallets separately, you're going to spend twice the time for scanning the blockchain and need twice the storage for the wallet cache. And this cost grows in proportion to the number of additional wallet addresses you'd like to have.

At leastin the CLI wallet, you don't have to scan the blockchain to start a new wallet.  You can choose the block to start the wallet scan at.  So just choose the current block.  You don't need to scan the blockchain for a new wallet, because such a wallet has nothing in it.
Am I right?
^^^ maybe they are talking about after the wallet is created and having to  sync after a certain period of time not having synced it.  Even in this case it seems a non issue to me as the wallet synced very fast, we are not talking about the daemon.

As far as a separate wallet cache, is this really an issue?  Who has just one wallet?

Edit:  I think if is possible to choose a wallet sync height with the GUI. I created a GUI wallet for the first time not long ago as I needed another wallet where I could easily check tx hx and that is easy to do with the  GUI.

I have no clue maybe it is old info that wasn't updated? I'd like to know though.

As usual part of aminorex's post read like Chinese to us mortals.

Hah good one.

Is there an official Chinese name for Monero?
私币 is logical but lacks poetry and seems too venial.
私宝币 is only slightly better.
自由币 Perhaps?

Well since Monero is just the English word money in Esperanto I guess you'll have to ask the language experts. Tongue

Ah ah, actually from my not so great experience I've encountered much more problems with VISA than with crypto. Now I keep three debit/credit cards (VISA, Mastercard and AMEX) specifically so at least one will work when I'm abroad. In my country having more than one card is pretty unusual...

this is also true as well as bank transfers taking 4 or 5 business days being completely unacceptable. The only coin that is as safe as fiat IMO is XMR and it is still in it's infancy. LTC is a pretty dependable and quick coin but it's fiat value has been seriously fluctuating as most coins have. For mass adoption stability is also a key feature for a store of wealth. Of course speculating is a completely different animal.

Well said....

Thank you. Smiley

Polo is getting a bad rap for many reasons, one is the laws they are conforming to which I think is why some peoples coins are taking so long to get released. But Idiots that don't check to see if a wallet is disabled because of blockchain issues (ETH has this all the time) or in BTC's terms the chain is horribly slow. Alot of the complaining is because they don't know how to check if their withdraw has been broadcast and only know if it's received. I don't think Polo will ever be a scam but it's massive growth with the soaring BTC price has also played a signifigant role in it's scaling.

People don't keep up on things and always yell scam if everything doesn't immediately work. Your in the beginnings of a completely new technology that is being used world wide and you think it should work like visa, that is moronic!

IOW, if you don't know what the fuck is going on then GTFO.
9367  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Poloniex = Scam exchange beware. on: June 27, 2017, 02:33:33 AM
It's only on BTC !

I have two transactions stuck on BTC since Friday. Just transfered ETH and it went through immediately. Convert all of your coins to ETH, get them out ASAP. This could end ugly!

LOL, what a retarded statement. ETH chain cost so much all the exchanges had to stop withdrawels yeah thats the way off an exchange. Actually that is unusually what ltc and doge are good for. Just a tip for those of you that didn't know what to use in those situations. Smiley

great news,

I am curious since there has been discussion to add BCN since January of 2016, when will BCN be added?

In February 2016 it was said here that BCN would be added "soon," and I figured it would take a bit because at the time there were RAM issues and such.   However those have since been resolved and there is now Anoncoin, Zcash, Verge, Peercoin, Litecoin, Dogecoin, ShadowCash, Dash, BATA, Feathercoin, NuShares, and Bitcoin being traded on exchanged.i2p.  (I submit that Dash should be removed for the following reasons -- http://www.financemagnates.com/cryptocurrency/innovation/dash-adds-full-support-for-amlkyc-compliance-via-coinfirm/ )

Please advise when BCN will be added.

Are there any cryptonote coins yet??? BCN is the original Cryptonote scam coin if you list that as the first crytonote then you can be assured your exchange will be tagged as scam. Think on that.
9369  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [OFFICIAL]Bitfinex.com first Bitcoin P2P lending platform for leverage trading on: June 25, 2017, 05:30:51 PM
Is there any additional method to secure your BFX account aside from 2FA?

There are quite a few options there

You may whitelist IP addresses which are allowed to access the site (though it is not really recommended if you have a dynamic IP address).
may also disallow withdrawals from new IP addresses for 24 hours in case someone steals your credentials and tries to withdraw your funds. If I'm not mistaken, you can also lock withdrawal addresses, i.e. the withdrawals will be possible only to the specified addresses. There seem to be a few other options but I didn't look into them

Thanks for this info! I think I might give them a try. I like these security precautions. One more question tho, Who are the creators and has the code been vetted by a reputable source? I'm assuming that only mutisig coins are listed? W00ps, thats 2 questions. Smiley

EDIT: I thought this is a decentralized exchange

...

Edit 2: I should point out that demurrage as in Freicoin http://freico.in/ could be used to generate a minimum block reward while maintaining  a fixed number of coins and that would work. Demurrage could work for side chains.

Demurrage sounds like something that should be Hf'd in BTC but I can't see anything launched with such as being viable for the forseeable future unless it's funded by a institution, certainly not by community investors. Even if it gets ICO it would just pull a Zcrap and plummet.

BTW can you sum up LTC's positional change with segwitt. I bought some when it was announced and took some profit but made the mistake of shorting it last week as I feel the same about it's long term. I guess it's being held up by the fact that whats his name has left coinbase to Dev full time.

I'm fine with yahoo or any site really but if I had to vote i'd go yahoo, My XMR is currently Margined so can you accept Paypal?

Ok, and I would really really prefer not too.  I personally never use PayPal just because I think they are horrible; but maybe you would be able to get someone else who uses PayPal that can send in 1 xmr for you after you pay an agreed price using PayPal.  Also the reason I want only XMR buy ins is because if the price changes in 5 or so months (which it probably will) 1 xmr always equals 1 xmr... so I don't want anyone to get agitated if someone paid too much or too little during this buy in time.

NP

I would be willing to trade PayPal for 1 XMR for hueristic or anyone else with very good reputation.

Thanks man. Smiley

The Bitcoin issue on 1 August... What do u guys think. I'm selling ETH for USD so I can buy in XMR lower when or if Bitcoin crashes down. Good decision? Or will this not affect Monero Price? I guess when Bitcoin comes down, everything else in USD terms comes down with it, temporarily

Thatīs the great question. Probably is too soon(TM) yet to have a definitive answer. There will be 2 or 3 more surprises in the road until 1 Aug. This new informations will assist you to take the correct path. Whatever you do, just donīt left BTC in exchanges that days.

Do you guys have a good link to follow this? I don't spend time in the BTC threads. Last time I converted to fiat because of a expected BTC fall the Alpha bay hit! And the next time I did it Japan recognized VC's so I'd hate to be Zero for 3!!! Smiley Years of holding XMR and miss every increase, DOH!

I can confirm a ton of the new hash power is coming from OCN.
9375  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Monero Fantasy Football League 2017 on: June 21, 2017, 03:24:22 AM
I'd like to join in for 1 XMR (or less.)

My limited experience is through Yahoo Fantasy Sports. It works well and pretty intuitive. Whether manual or auto-draft I doubt really matters, the secret is to pay attention who is hurt or has a by-week before you make your line-up for that week.

Ok, I'll put you in.  It looks like there is a majority of people who are more familiar with Yahoo Sports, which is honestly kind of surprising (thought most people would be more familiar with ESPN).  I'm OK with using Yahoo and will delete the ESPN league if that's ok with everyone else?

Also, @ Hueristic, I looked more into the settings for trades and such, and if you are interested in what is the default settings, here it is.  It allows me to change the settings as well, but like I said above, if more people are comfortable with Yahoo then let's just stick with that.

I'll go ahead and make a Yahoo league and keep the ESPN one too just in case.  If anyone has objections to Yahoo, let me know.  Also, Jwinterm just made the leagues wallet and I will post the addy and private view key in the OP so people can send their 1 xmr and will give instructions on how to verify your funds have arrived.

I'm fine with yahoo or any site really but if I had to vote i'd go yahoo, My XMR is currently Margined so can you accept Paypal?
9376  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Monero Fantasy Football League 2017 on: June 20, 2017, 03:43:10 AM
@Hueristic Since people will have to pay the leagues wallet as a type of "buy in" to play it doesn't necessarily matter if a person has bad rep here or not. If you look at the link in the OP and read  the old Monero Madness thread, I had it where people would have to pay and post the tx hash. Then we had the wallet public address and private view key available to verify funds have been sent to that wallet. That way no trust is needed, and private invite to join the group can be sent after the funds arrived. I'll have to edit that part in the OP, but I'll do it tomorrow since I'm on mobile right now.

As far as trading goes, I'm pretty certain there is a system like that in place, but this is my first time using ESPN. I've used Yahoo Fantasy Sports in the past too and there was some sort of system like that in place I think by default. I would assume there is something like that in ESPN too, but will have to look more into the rules there. I'm sure I can edit the rules to go by something like that, or we could just use Yahoo instead of ESPN. Whatever is fine with me.

I will look more into it tomorrow and get back to you on that.

I've never used ESPN, in yahoo it's the commish's decision on trades unless it's changed.
9377  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Monero Fantasy Football League 2017 on: June 20, 2017, 02:54:17 AM
Auto-drafts are lame for a lot of reasons, but the main reason is the fact that if you default to the "next best pick" you can still end up having a full lineup, but you might have like 4QBs sitting on your bench or something stupid because the computer is picking what's ranked as the best out of a predetermined list.

That has never happened in my experience.  The auto-draft algorithm at Yahoo is smart enough to give you 2 QBs, 2 RBs, 4 WRs, 2 TE, 2 DEF, etc depending on how your league is setup.  It never loads up on one position, but is indeed assigning them based on a pre-season ranking.

I've had autodraft give me guys that are suspended and other stuff like being injured. I personally hate Autodraft the ranking are always wrong.
9378  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: rpietila's Crypto Kingdom game is a scam, heavily in debt. Do not deposit funds. on: June 20, 2017, 01:32:15 AM
When CK was first being discussed I thought the prevailing Idea was that XMR would be the in game currency. Wasn't that what was supposed to be the innovation and the part that helped monero expand it's eco system? I have no clue why a spreadsheet and a trusted system was  even used? That kind of defeated the initial purpose of the game didn't it?
9379  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: June 20, 2017, 01:11:33 AM

Lots of tech universities over whole Europe will put together research teams where they will write research papers how Monero is truly fungible. 5 billions is a lot of money.

They are going to end up spending more than the market caps of all coins just to control them. LOL they should just buy all coins. Smiley
