You would use a pen name for this, Frank.

Well, to be fair the reason there are so many bad guesses is because it's free to guess there.

This was my first thought as well. When there is nothing to lose, there is no reason not to try. When you have something on the line you are likely to be a lot more cautious.

Thought I would add a fun one.

What are the letters after the period? I can see "DEVCOIN." but the rest I can't figure out.

Devcoin.Org

Edit: if your asking about logos

Chrome, Ruby On Rails, Gnome.

Thanks! The question was in relation to the letters themselves (org). Just bothered me that I couldn't figure it out, lol.

Based on Josh's announcement of 5/23, they should be shipping units today.  Anyone know if they actually shipped anything?
Yeah, they shipped a couple Japthings, apparently.
Anyone got this 1,5TH/S minirig (with 1500W requirement), yet ?

If you mean the minirig, it has been downgraded to 500GH/s.

Exactly my point!
Since they guarantee you'll get the GH/S you ordered, it means:
- It'll take 3x more space
- It'll suck 3x more electricity (because that's the obvious reason why 1,5TH/S cannot be acheived with one unit)

A bit lost. Are you saying that those who ordered the 1 TH/s one are getting 3x 500 GH/s ones instead?

4.5KW an hour doesn't seem too bad for that much speed (assuming 3x electricity at 1.5KW per).
9386  Economy / Services / Re: [WTB] Mortgage Cosigner on: May 24, 2013, 06:39:32 PM
Why would anybody agree to this?  You know that in the even of your default the cosigner is on the hook for the mortgage, right?

Credit: Used by the bank, credit union or other lender to assess creditworthiness.
Equity: Used by the same to assess the worst-case scenario as to what they can seize if you default.

If these criteria are not adequate for you to secure a mortgage from a traditional lender, what are you offering up that would make someone else want to shoulder the legal responsibility for your eventual possible default? (Edit: that sounded like an accusation.  I don't mean to suggest you will default, I'm just asking about the scenario in which you did and somebody else is left holding the bag.)

This is what I'm wondering. Someone could get screwed over bad by doing this, so there really needs to be a deal made that highly favors the person that's signing it. It's a big risk.

I think with ASIC the price will go up to $300 but not for at least 6 months.

I cannot conceptualize at all why there would be a relationship between market price of BTC and the efficacy of mining computers. Can you (or anyone) explain why you think ASICs will boost the price of Bitcoin (or lead me to post that explains it)?

I think the theory behind it is that if you can no longer mine them, you have to buy them. This increases the demand, driving up the price.

At least that's the theory behind it.
9388  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Understanding fees on: May 24, 2013, 04:54:10 PM
Adding a fee will move your transaction higher up the priority list, so it should confirm more quickly. You can send a transaction without fees if you wish, provided it is under the size limit. It could end up taking a long time to confirm though.

What is the size limit to send without a fee?

10k and all outputs have to be 0.01 BTC or more.

In case it isn't clear, that's 10 kilobytes.  The "size" refers to the amount of data in the transaction, not the amount of bitcoins.

Sorry! When I typed that for some reason I thought it was clear. Re-reading it, I can see the confusion people may have had with it. "Size limit" when I was responding automatically meant "bytes" to me. Now I know why they say "always put your unit of measurement!"

Nasty's Pasties Grin

This makes me think of strippers. But is that good or bad?

Since when are strippers a bad thing? Either way they're coming for your wiener. You pick which to share, XD.

Well I know its not going to be the footlong... 0.o

Aw, come on. Just stick the wiener in the bun. If you're lucky she won't have teeth.

...

...

...

That has brought up some weird images that... it honestly scares me.

Edit: now pick one of the names I shared so I can take my .1 BTC and move on with my life. You're killing me with suspense!

*Raises hand* PICK MEH, PICCCCCCCCK MEHHHHHHHHH!

It does. And I understand where you're coming from. I was going to offer to help you decide what to name the pictures (in the case of anything that could be taken multiple ways) but I'd hate to be blamed if someone guessed one quickly because I might have shared the answer, XD.

Yeap.

You know the initial idea about Apophenia was to let users upload challenges and just take a small portion of the profits. But then I though that it would be impossible to play since there would be a huge number of users uploading challenges that nobody solves because they don't trust them. And chances would be that scammers would be all over the site. Maybe if I was charging a listing fee it could work but I think it would just end up dying quickly unless some trusted member of the community started using it.

Yeah, I think allowing others to do the uploading could cause more problems than it's worth. Someone could purposefully use tough to guess words to keep people giving more and more money, just so that they can't win it.

Sent!

Hopefully this isn't rude, but since it has been increased from 5 to 20 may I please get the difference?

Thanks in advance!

Not rude at all! I'll send you 15 DVC! =).

Sent to all!

Thanks! It's not showing up yet but I assume that's just because it's waiting to be propagated.

I really do appreciate it, <3

Just checked, it's sent with 5 confirmations, you sure you don't have it?

Odd. Apparently my client had locked up or something. I restarted it and now it's all showing up properly.

Thanks again!
9394  Economy / Gambling / Re: SealsWithClubs.eu | Largest Bitcoin Poker Site | No Banking | Fast Cashouts on: May 24, 2013, 11:15:58 AM
That is exactly my point too. Look at other big name sites: they either have depositor freerolls or limited number of freerolls available for each player per day or week, etc. And also they have better prize structure for their big crowded freerolls.
Every hour 50chips freeroll, with min 150 entrants, and only 3 prizes... again I put the irony: some slot or hourly lottery would be more fun then.

Oh, definitely. The best sites are those that give out more rewards. I have no issues with a freeroll that has 5000 people and pays out to the top 200-250 (smaller amounts, but it adds up. It's better than wishing and hoping to win a few first/second/third places). Bodog was like that.
9395  Economy / Gambling / Re: SealsWithClubs.eu | Largest Bitcoin Poker Site | No Banking | Fast Cashouts on: May 24, 2013, 11:02:58 AM
I agree with you, better to put that 1,2 BTC in other promos than SUCH freerolls. But only because these freerolls harm more than make any positive...
These freerolls make one hate the game, random bang bang----bang---------bang---and one random become winner to win some 10 or 15 chips.
U guys say it makes a bankroll for non-depositors to play the real, I disagree, at the moment they are such crowded by donkey bang bang junks that I have a great doubt if one could make a single 100BB stack through them in a mounth with consistent playing... and if one can make, good for us.
But here we should look at history and tradition again: what big poker rooms put freerolls for...

The donk-fests are why I avoid freerolls unless I am just extremely bored and need something to do. Otherwise I get irritated because of people who go all-in every hand, raise every hand, etc. Once you finally decide to call them because you have good cards, they luck out (like a 4 and 8 off suit and land a 4 of a kind) and you're out of the game.

9397  Economy / Gambling / Re: SealsWithClubs.eu | Largest Bitcoin Poker Site | No Banking | Fast Cashouts on: May 24, 2013, 10:42:10 AM
Im not talking about consistently winning im talking about giving the 1.2 a day to players who rake and earn for the site instead of people who aren't going to deposit. if a site has 300 players I will go to the one that has most ring games with cash going and not the one that has 300 players 200 of which are dedicated freeroll players only so I disagree with you 100 percent.

I will go to a site with 150 cash players over a site with 300 players of which 200 are freerollers .

Hmm, from my experience most people who win freerolls end up playing ring games or tournaments. Usually you can't cash out until you've built it up, so there's really no reason NOT to try to build it unless people really think they are going to keep winning.

I do see your point of view though. It helps explain why a lot of sites don't do real freerolls and instead have "depositor only" freerolls.
9398  Economy / Gambling / Re: ApopheniaBTC - Bet and solve the challenges to win BTC. on: May 24, 2013, 10:36:37 AM
Yeah, I can see the problem with that... off the top of my head I really can't think of any good solutions for it that wouldn't be exploitable. I could just see someone getting irritated because there was a picture of like a computer and someone said "computer" but it was really supposed to be "desktop."

I guess if the hints at least lead people in the right way of understanding how it should be answered it should be fine.

Yeah it can be annoying at some times I guess. The good thing is that it's never unfair since it's the same for everyone. It's not unlike other games. You might come very close to the answer, miss, and then the opponent gets helped and finds the correct one. Of course there is an equal chance that you'll be on the other end of this. ;-)

I could give more detailed hints but that would make it way less fun since it would give certainty to users about their answers. For example let's suppose that I want the answer "desktop". If I give a hint like "Object, give the exact type." users would rule out quite a few generic items. They might be thinking it's a pair of shoes but they would not bet until they know what shoes they are, which would probably never happen since they would first all realize it's a computer. Of course they would then start guess-betting all the possible type. Well I am not sure if that makes sense to you. :-)

It does. And I understand where you're coming from. I was going to offer to help you decide what to name the pictures (in the case of anything that could be taken multiple ways) but I'd hate to be blamed if someone guessed one quickly because I might have shared the answer, XD.
9399  Economy / Gambling / Re: SealsWithClubs.eu | Largest Bitcoin Poker Site | No Banking | Fast Cashouts on: May 24, 2013, 10:05:03 AM
That small amount of money adds up to 1.2 or 1200 bitcoins a day that should be going to reward players who rake and earn money for the site not freeloaders who have no intention of depositing and will either cashout winning our use that money to shortstack the ring games and freerola depositing players.

The chances of consistently winning is very low. And I completely disagree with your idea on freerolls and what they should be for. The way I see it, more people with money increases the amount of players there are, which brings in more people, which snowballs. If you saw a poker site with 10 people who had $50 or a site with 50 that had $10, you would be more likely to pick the site with 50.
9400  Other / Off-topic / Re: Best way to really learn linux? on: May 24, 2013, 10:02:59 AM
I'll toss in a vote for VirtualBox as well. I was thinking Ubuntu (using WUBI) would be the best option for a newbie, but since you won't be doing graphical things (like gaming) on it most likely while you're learning, VB will work better. It allows you to run Linux alongside your other OS, kind of like a hybrid system. The only downside is it sucks for gaming, but if you decide to move to that later you can just do a full Linux swap.
