Rand Paul Reluctantly Defends Trump from Hewitt’s ‘Gotcha’ Questions

I’m not big on defending Donald Trump by any means and I’ve been one of his fiercest critics,”Rand Paul told host Michael Smerconish on his SiriusXM radio show Friday morning. But all that being said, the candidate still proceeded to take Trump’s side on the question of whether Hugh Hewitt was guilty of asking “gotcha” questions about the Quds Force during his interview with the GOP frontrunner last night.

Paul said he too sometimes has trouble hearing the difference between “Quds” and “Kurds” and gave Trump the benefit of the doubt on that confusion. “And I also thinking that running through a list every different Arab name and asking people to respond to them is a little bit of a game of ‘gotcha,'” Paul added. But at the same time, he said that knowing the difference between Hamas and Hezbollah is an important attribute for the next president of the United States.

When Hewitt asked Trump if he thought a question along those lines also qualified as a “gotcha,” Trump replied, “Yes, I do. I totally do. I think it’s ridiculous.”
“Like I say, I’m not into defending Donald Trump and you find it often,” Paul said. “But I think some interviewers do like to play this game.”
During a phone appearance on Morning Joe Friday, Trump dismissed Hewitt, who will be one of the moderators at this month’s GOP debate on CNN, as nothing more than a “third-rate radio announcer.

The drama is building!(??)
The next (R) debate could be one we remember for a very, very long time?
I have reduced my expectations for the current election, but perhaps things will get better soon. Rand was in a tough spot, deciding whether to be "98.9999% pure" like his dad, or trying to reach even more people.

He is his dad in so many words but has chosen to make things work in a different light. I agree he needs to make the next debate his and talk about fiscal conservative principles rather than the privacy stuff that he's been focusing on in this primary.
942  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Alaskan woman steals police car with husband handcuffed in back on: September 07, 2015, 03:47:10 AM
I am surprised that the cops managed to arrest them. Alaska is a huge territory, covering more than 170 million hectares (i.e, bigger than countries such as Iran, Peru and Angola). And the total number of policemen is around 600. That means that every single policemen has around 300,000 hectares of Arctic wilderness to patrol.
You make good points but that state has so much unused or uninhabited territory that spacing out the responsibility for police that much is not realistic and you know it. Hence, the small usable land and the available police to deal with it is quite appropriate at this point. However, some bad people want to get lost up there and then that reeks havoc on the current populations of small towns there.

Great news and I've been hoping to hear something like this at some point. Rising tides raise all ships but there needs to be discounts from vendors so people will have more incentives to use bitcoin as a payment system.

Just made myself a nice little stake selling litecoin tonight tho I wonder if I pulled the trigger too soon. I guess a winner is a winner at this point.

Gemini, ETF, Halving.
=$500+ in 2016

What is ETF ?
The Winklevoss twins are attempting to get an exchange traded fund up and running for bitcoin so that institutional investors feel more comfortable in getting exposure to bitcoin. I suspect that the relative stability that has been seen in this market for quite some time is meant to promote bitcoin as a stable-ish investment that may be enticing to hedge funds and other brokerages for big money to enter the field.

Rand Paul Op-Ed: Simplify the Tax Code, Reduce the Budget, and Balance It

I believe that the only way to rein in big government is to starve the beast. I’d eliminate the more than 70,000 pages of the tax code, replace it with one page, and start over. I’d set a single rate of 14.5 percent for businesses and individuals. I’d also eliminate the payroll tax, a move that would raise after-tax income by at least 15 percent over ten years.

Fake conservatives like Donald Trump want to raise taxes. Trump maintains that Democrats run the economy better. So, if tea-party conservatives succumb to his nonsense, expect higher taxes and Clinton-style big government to be the result.

One of the fundamental aims of the Constitution was to limit the powers of the federal government. Our Founders would be horrified to learn that the federal government has worked its way into every nook and cranny of our lives.

The only candidates I'm interested in are ones that advocate for more liberty for the people and a government that actually protects their rights on an individual basis rather than one that attempts to put groups of people against each other while the bankers skim off of what's left from the wealth of the nation. Plus, West is a known racist and black power type so I'm thoroughly not interested in him.

A.  zerohedge.
B.  Communist China is not just like Greece.  Go figure.
C.  A zerohedge article?  Wrong?!  If you can't trust zerohedge, who can you trust?

@spud21 even if the Chinese could buy BTC directly from miners (miners who could themselves sell that BTC on exchanges for USD or Euro), what would that change?

A. Zerohedge has an agenda. It's no secret; but judging a book by the cover will probably not allow you to obtain some knowledge. I read his articles - not always accept them. In this case though, he has solid points and that's the reason I've crossposted it from klee's comment on another thread.

B. I don't want to comment. I vowed not to talk about politics in public ever since I voted for the previous government of ours with 62% NO to new austerity measures and our PM acted as the sockpuppet of the EU politics. Communism? No, just economic totalitarianism. Yeah, it's different as a concept, not as an outcome to the people though. FWIW, we're en route for new elections. We have no government anymore in Greece and I think we will never have under these circumstances.
Well, I have a whole shitload of it (gov.usd that is) and I'm at a point where I'd trade my citizenship to you for your lot over there and you can have my guns to go with it. I know I'm being brash and all but there's a huge sinking ship over here w/ an epic amount of dependents on the state which outnumbers your country in whole by 2:1 or more. I wish i could go Atlas at this point but there doesn't seem anywhere to go to do that and I'm still young so I need more to earn and save to do such a thing. If EW is the ticket then 2020 is when many of us can fly out. /rant
953  Economy / Speculation / Re: China Scrambles To Enforce Capital Controls - Bullish for Bitcoin? on: September 02, 2015, 06:11:25 PM
How will Chinese people buy substantial quantities of Bitcoins?

The Chinese government banned direct bank transfers to Bitcoin exchanges. After that a new system of selling vouchers to buy Bitcoins emerged. However, the Chinese government then did something to stop that system. I can't remember what they did or how effective it was, but isn't it likely they will use further measures to stop Bitcoin purchases if they have now started clamping down on any form of capital flow out of China?

What system do Chinese people currently use to buy Bitcoins?
Per the article, many of the Chinese folks that want to offshore their money do it through jewelry stores in Macau. I suppose there may be some sort of an exchange there where they could load up. I doubt a rally would start if their only option was a local bitcoin dealer in Macau. Considering this offshore transfer stuff has been happening for a while, you'd think a bitcoin related exchange would've set up shop there by now.

Libertarians May Co-Nominate Rand Paul in 2016

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., may follow in his father’s footsteps not only by seeking the Republican presidential nomination, but also by receiving the Libertarian Party’s ballot line.

Members of the Libertarian Party are bracing for an internal struggle over whether to back the libertarian-leaning senator if he appears poised to win the Republican nomination in 2016.

Paul is unlikely to directly seek the third party’s support, but could win it anyhow through the work of eager activists like those who worked the campaigns of his father, former Texas Rep. Ron Paul, a GOP presidential contender in 2008 and 2012 and the Libertarian nominee in 1988.

A co-nomination from one of the nation’s most significant minor parties could help Paul - if he’s the Republican nominee - avoid losing hundreds of thousands of votes to an ideological ally. In some states, his name would appear twice on ballots.

If Paul is nominated by both the Republican and Libertarian parties, it could also unleash electoral scenarios unseen in decades, such as the negotiation of a fusion slate of electors. Libertarians could, theoretically, nominate their own vice presidential candidate.

Though the Libertarian Party’s Orlando, Florida, nominating convention isn’t until May 2016, Libertarian National Committee Executive Director Wes Benedict foresees a fight.

“If Rand Paul wins the Republican nomination, I'd expect a big fight within the [party] over whether or not we should run our own candidate,” Benedict says. “It wouldn't just be a discussion.”

Libertarian Party chairman Nicholas Sarwark, officially neutral on the matter, says “there is a possibility that the delegates in Orlando would nominate Sen. Paul and if they were to do so, I'd work hard to support their choice.”

The Republican primary season will be well underway when the 1,000 or so Libertarian convention delegates gather. If Paul appears poised for victory in the GOP race, they would have several options.

Delegates could nominate Paul and his presumptive GOP running mate (if that person has been selected), or nominate Paul and a Libertarian running mate (as happened in 1896 when the Democratic and Populist parties nominated William Jennings Bryan for president, but chose different vice presidential candidates).

They could also choose to endorse no candidate, a scenario in which many would-be Libertarian voters would presumably vote for Paul without the party’s official blessing; or they could snub Paul and pick their own presidential candidate.

CNN changes debate criteria, clearing path for Fiorina

CNN announced on Tuesday that it has changed the criteria for its upcoming debate, making space for Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina on the primetime stage.

Fiorina had argued for weeks that CNN's debate criteria unfairly weighted early field leaders over those who have polled better since the Fox News debate on Aug. 6.

According to CNN, any candidate who ranks in the top 10 between Aug. 6 and Sept. 10 will be included in the primetime debate on Sept. 16.

Rand Paul says KY clerk’s marriage protest is ‘part of the American way'

MANCHESTER, N.H. -- Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) has given a mixed endorsement to a home state county clerk whose refusal to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples has become national news.

"I think people who do stand up and are making a stand to say that they believe in something is an important part of the American way," Paul told Boston Herald Radio during a three-day campaign swing through the Northeast.

When asked about Rowan County, Kentucky clerk Kim Davis's ongoing refusal to issue licenses, in defiance of the Supreme Court's 2015 Obergefell v. Hodges ruling, Paul's campaign pointed to his Monday interview with the conservative Herald. The question was succinct, asking if Paul "back[ed] Kim Davis and her religious right" to defy the ruling. Paul's answer took him across the plains of legal theory before ending with the "making a stand" statement.

"I think one way to get around the whole idea of what the Supreme Court is forcing on the states is for states just to get out of the business of giving out licenses," Paul said. "Alabama has already voted to do this, they’re just no longer going to give out licenses. And anybody can make a contract. And then if you want a marriage contract you go to a church. And so I’ve often said we could have gotten around all of this also in the sense that I do believe everybody has a right to a contract."

Poll: Most Iowa GOP voters don’t care if a candidate has any specific policy

...
Among Trump supporters, the portion of those who don’t care if a candidate has specific policy proposals jumped up to two thirds. This kind of vacuity is exactly what Republicans criticized Obama supporters for in 2008 and 2012, but now, it seems, they’ve eagerly jumped into the same pool of inanity.

And whether it’s two thirds or 57 percent or, honestly, anything much above zero, this is a terrifying and depressing statistic.

Unfortunately, it’s not so much surprising as it is something we don’t like to admit to ourselves: most voters don’t pick a candidate because they’ve made a careful examination of the issue positions of every contender. Most voters—and, it seems, especially Trump voters—are mainly just going with their gut, casting their ballots with relatively little research beyond their own immediate feelings about a candidate’s manner and rhetoric.

Meaningful since Rand should receive all the anti-establishment support that Trump has seen lately. It's early and Rand will sweep up sooner rather than later.

Stock market crash is right on schedule.

Positive Bitcoin and alt-coin direction will soon be here.  Grin

You sure?

I'm more than sure. Simple math. If you look back at my posts, I've been predicting this market crash for a long time. It's here, and it's going to get a lot worse.
The next thing you will start to see is rising gold and silver prices. Current prices are chump change. As the stock market falls, precious metals will start to accelerate.
Bitcoin, Litecoin, and quite a few alts will start moving even more rapidly.

Tis true, very few have a pulse on the fiat economy at this point. When the price of bitcoin starts making its way up above the meager trends we'll start to see the media talking the biz and then folks will be flocking to the run up that we'll inevitably see. The question is whether a real moon is coming any time soon and I think it is. Getting people to not rely on traditional markets or be wary of them is what will help the next boom. People are already on edge on what the stock market can do in such a small manner as of the last week or so. I'm fully loaded in bitcoin but have a decent stake in litecoin cause there is another wave of prosperity coming in crypto and so many people even on this site are so proper in their suppositions about this network and what it can do, that they can't comprehend at this point, what the Bull can do and the subsequent FOMO can make happen.
