941  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: G7 Central Banks plans to start buying cryptocurrency this year on: April 10, 2018, 01:39:07 PM
If you read the article, central banks haven't announced anything.

It's just the opinion of the blockchain.info ceo that central banks will start investing in bitcoin.

I can't see it myself - bitcoin isn't really used for trade at all, and central bank reserves are there to facilitate trade between countries (they try to hold currencies in proportion to the trade their country is doing with other countries.
942  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Soros is getting into crypto! on: April 10, 2018, 01:33:21 PM
George Soros is getting into crypto! To be precise, Adam Fischer got the approval at New York-based Soros Fund Management to trade virtual coins.
This is particularly interesting knowing that Soros called Bitcoin a bubble in January. Maybe the recent fallings in the crypto market changed his mind?
Also, I wonder how much will the legendary speculator will influence the decisions made in this field.

Source:
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-04-06/george-soros-prepares-to-trade-cryptocurrencies-as-prices-plung

He is famous for shorting, and is probably attracted to crypto because it is unregulated.

Short the life out of it on the futures exchanges, call bitcoin a bubble in January to panic people into selling, profit, then announce you are investing in crypto once you have closed your short and gone long,

It's classic Soros, most of this stuff would be illegal in regular markets (tryiing to move sentiment with statements that have no basis), but is fine in crypto.
943  Economy / Economics / Stanford University Business Full-Time Cryptocurrency Course on: April 10, 2018, 01:26:03 PM
For those interested in studying crypto:

https://www.cryptocurrencyguide.org/stanford-universitys-graduate-school-of-business-full-time-cryptocurrency-course-scheduled-to-begin-next-month/

Quote
Stanford Graduate School of Business, Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business are expanding classes in digital currency and blockchain, CNBC reported.

Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business is offering a full-time cryptocurrency course, and is scheduled to begin next month.

Because it is being done by the business school, it will probably focus on the ecoomics aspects, as opposed to teh technical coding aspects of cryptocurrency.
944  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: IBM: Blockchain Economy Will Hit $3.1 Trillion on: April 10, 2018, 01:15:07 PM
Important to note this part - "research from Gartner which estimates the value-add of the blockchain economy at just over $176 billion by 2025, with a run-up to over $3.1 trillion by 2030."

While I do strongly believe in blockchain, 2030 is still far away. Wink

It also depends on massive adoption by then. Adoption for crypto as something to be used has stalled. It just seems to be speculators who are dominating the space now.
945  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Twitter account @bitcoin has been suspended!!!!!!!!! on: April 10, 2018, 01:00:35 PM
About time!

Adios Rog!

As he's the single most divisive figure in all of crypto, he won't be missed.

It's been reinstated - apparently it got shut down because it got hacked:

Twitter suspended the @Bitcoin Twitter account, which is run by an anonymous user, over the weekend. The account was briefly taken over by a user who claimed to be Turkish, then by a user who claimed to be Russian, before apparently being restored to its previous owner Monday afternoon.

“We do not comment on individual accounts so nothing to share,” a Twitter spokesperson said when asked about the suspension. “That’s some bullshit if you ask me,” the user behind @Bitcoin tweeted. “I’d like to know why my account was given to someone else, and then when it’s reinstated I’m missing 750,000 of my followers.”

The @Bitcoin account had more than 821,000 followers when it was suspended. Those followers disappeared, but it appears that Twitter is slowly restoring them.
946  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Which one is a better investment Bitcoin Or Ethereum, on: April 10, 2018, 12:29:35 PM
Bitcoin is a just a daddy to all but has higher insane fees, I would personally prefer ethereum over bitcoin, it has many uses and over 60% of the tokens run on ethereum blockchain which shows it's strength but it's better to hold a portion of both

Bitcoin's fees have dropped sharply to practically nothing.

Ethereum has the smart contracts thing going for it, but has been hurt badly by the bans on ICOs, as most ICOs are built on Ethereum's platform.
947  Economy / Economics / Re: The HODL strategy is not actual on: April 10, 2018, 12:21:07 PM
its depends on your style.. if youre an investor your strategy really is HODL for long term but if youre a trader ofcourse youll trade when you already have profit and just buy again at dip

This. For some people who arn't good at trading, holding is the best strategy. They lose money trading (not least on trading fees which add up over time).
948  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Warning BITCOIN Scam... Be Cautious! on: April 10, 2018, 12:14:27 PM
One of the Major Reasons why some Government sees Bitcoin as a threat to their country is because people might use it as an opportunity against some other people who wanted to earn and make a living. Just recently in the Philippines a couple was arrested because of scam, they uses a pyramid scheme and baited people to invest via electronic money. It started when Bitcoin is at its hype, giving them the chance to use it as front.

For our safety and security, please read this article and be aware. https://www.rappler.com/nation/199915-filipino-couple-amasses-millions-bitcoin-scam

Hope this could help everyone and let us be cautious. Earning money is not that easy as what other think of it. It requires patience, dedication, determination and focus to reach your goal.

Scammers always move into new unregulated spaces. Once regulation and public knowledge increase, then the number of victims drops and the scammers move on to something else.
949  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Gemini's fees have quadrupled as of this morning for most users. on: April 10, 2018, 11:52:14 AM
https://gemini.com/blog/update-to-the-gemini-trading-fee-schedule/

Thoughts? Did you use Gemini before? Will you continue?

Binance/gdax seem like decent alternatives now. What do you think?

It's outrageous. Bitcoin trading fees are already higher than stock trading fees (where you usually pay a flat fee rather than a percentage).

My advice - move to Kraken. They do maker taker fees. If you are a maker, the fee is just 0.16%.
950  Economy / Speculation / Re: A hope on: April 10, 2018, 11:48:52 AM
I think it would take a miracle for Bitcoin to fly again.

It will happen - but not fast. We won't see $20,000 this year, but we might see $10,000 again. Be patient - it takes time to build real adoption.
951  Economy / Economics / Re: Venezuela's growing interest in bitcoin explained on: April 09, 2018, 11:02:31 AM
I saw some news that says even though the volatility is so strong, but Venezuelans still turning to cryptocurrencies to store their savings. It seems a bold strategic from the Venezuelans. What do you guys think?

It's because their own currency is even more volatile.

That said - most Venezuelans are poor so they won't even be able to buy a few satoshis.
952  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is needed for Altcoin to survive long term? on: April 09, 2018, 09:38:49 AM
Many are into digital currencies and are engaged in total availability and market transactions. With the assumption that it’s value will go up in future, how will altcoin survive long term?

You need a big enthusiatic community to keep it going through teh dark days. That's what bitcoin had durinhg 2014-2016, and that is what sustained Doge through various ups and downs.
953  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Amazon GC no longer available through Gyft - Alternatives? on: April 09, 2018, 09:36:51 AM
this has nothing to do with bitcoin or any individual company, a short while back amazon US and canada completely stopped third party companies selling gift cards. doesn't matter if it's for dollars or bitcoin. for americans they have to buy from private sellers or amazon.

I wonder why they stopped - perhaps the resellers were somehow buying for a discount and selling at full price?
954  Economy / Speculation / Re: 2018 Cryptocurrency Crash (Elliott Wave) on: April 09, 2018, 09:05:50 AM
Hahaha it is funny to see that there are some people who really enjoy to see their investment going down.

He's a speculator and has probably gone short himself - so of course he'll be excited if he is making money from his short.
955  Economy / Economics / Re: Crypto Exchanges vs Instant Swaps (changelly, shapeshift) on: April 05, 2018, 04:25:43 PM
Add blocktrades.us to the list as well. It is a decentralised service built on the bitshares platform and allows you to exchange coins without logging in.

It doesn't have as wide a selection of coins as shapeshift and the others, but I can recommend how efficient the service is.
956  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin Mules Flood China as OTC Cryptocurrency Trading Flourishes on: April 05, 2018, 02:07:06 PM
https://news.bitcoin.com/bitcoin-mules-flood-china-as-otc-cryptocurrency-trading-flourishes/

Quote
Chinese bitcoin mules are buying bitcoin in various markets around the world and smuggling it back in to the country to fuel the flourishing and unregulated OTC (over-the-counter) market, according to a report from the region. However, the business isn’t as lucrative as it was a few months ago.

John DeCleene, an assistant fund manager at Overseas Chinese Investment Management, explained: “The market’s kind of taken a downturn; It is too many players entering this market, but also less of the hype we saw in December-January, when people were paying a 30 percent premium because they expected 10 times gains overnight.”

Reuters has interviewed a mule that admitted to illegally entering the United States with up to $40,000 to buy bitcoin which she then sells on the Chinese OTC markets. “Selling and buying bitcoins on those OTC websites is the same as shopping on Taobao,” she commented.
957  Economy / Economics / Re: What's more important when starting a business, Big Idea or Big Capital? on: April 05, 2018, 02:03:23 PM
What's more important when starting a business, Big Idea or Big Capital?

Capital is important. Part of the reason the USA leads in start-ups is because they have a huge venture capital industry eager to invest in new ideas. In the rest of the world you are lucky to persuade a bank manager to give you a small loan for your new business, and many good ideas just never get implemented because there is no capital behind them.
958  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Will exchanges have learnt anything from this bubble? on: April 05, 2018, 01:59:01 PM
Looks like we're on our way to hell for now at least. There probably won't be a legit bull run for a decent length of time now. When the next one comes it will dwarf the one we've just witnessed just as 2013 was this time.

With this in mind do you reckon that exchanges will be ready for the next one or will there even more seizures, crapping out and closures to new users?

With the way crypto explodes and then dies I really don't see how any exchange can afford to train and employ enough people to be ready for something that may be months or years away. If volumes are pitiful then there aren't enough earnings to prepare and employ them in wait.

Bigger companies such as Circle are coming on board, but Circle themselves dropped BTC retail when interest died off.

So will they do it right or will we get more of the same?

Well lots of the exchanges are in better shape than they were in December. Kraken fixed it's trading engine, Coinbase and others finally enabled segwit and enabled batching transactions. Most purchased new servers in December. So the whole experienced has forced them to improve - it's a pity they didn't act earlier.
959  Economy / Speculation / Re: It's happening again. Bitcoin price went under $7,000 on: April 05, 2018, 01:50:29 PM
Whales will be satisfied with 4.000 USD, and then - boooooooom!

Maybe. But in reality nobody knows what price can satisfy the whales. Maybe they want $2000...

I personally think there are a lot of buy orders around $6000 (that is where it dipped to in February).
960  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: End of road for Cryptocurrencies in INDIA? on: April 05, 2018, 01:43:18 PM
The central bank of India (RBI) today, directed all the regulated bodies to not to provide services to any individual and business entities that use or deals in virtual currencies within a specified time period i.e. about 3 months.

RBI bans regulated entities to deal with crypto users
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has barred the regulated entities including banks from providing services to any individual or business entity that deals with virtual currencies.

Today has been the first bi-monthly Monetary Policy Statement of 2018-19 of RBI, where the central bank has given a 3 months period to sever their ties with the entities using virtual currencies.

People will still use bitcoin in person-to-person transactions, in order to escape capital controls. They just won't be able to use the banking system to do it - they'll have to use cash.
