Like the S1, adoption should happen quickly and Bitmain ships in quantities instead of long pre-orders that never ship like BFL, KnC and others.

Bitmain just sank KnC ...

Look, i don't want to pile on, but apparently Neptune is a good product in everything, but the price.
Yet, batch 3 in Q3 (when?) is stuck at $5995, which is obviously non-competitive right now or about to become such.
Why not be aggressive, make a Polyphemus or something (at 10Th) for $8999 or even $9999, but release in one week.
That kind of machine would probably sell.
9462  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: H/w Hosting Directory & Reputation on: July 16, 2014, 09:44:29 PM
1. What do you guys think is a fair premium for non-rackmountable hardware like Ants or Neptunes? I've got some shelves in the warehouse here, and I've been considering setting up an Ant farm if there's enough demand for it, and if people are willing to pay for the extra time and money it will cost to set it up and cool it. This is a premium on top of our standard rates, which will be around $90/kW for 1 month (no contract), or as low as $70/kW for 18 month pre-pay.

2. What do you guys think of the name Freedom Farm? We want to do our part to keep Bitcoin free and decentralized, while simultaneously staying nearly 100% greenhouse gas emissions-free. Also, alliteration. Yes? No? What about the name Crypto Cache? How about Columbia Localhost? (We're powered by the Columbia River.)

sushi is saying that you can fit 3 S3 antminers in 4U rack space and 10 shelves in 42U space, hence 30 S3 in 42U cabinet.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=697474.0
This would require ~10.2 kw/ 42U space.
is this doable-hosting guys?
I have seen mostly 20A and 30A offers at 208V, which is only 4.16 to 6.24kw

We opened the first S3 in our hands

Specs are a bit better than expected.

Guys , I have chosen the coupon option, but cannot see anything yet.

Anyone with the same issue?

If goto the My Applications tab in your account you will see it. Mine shows this: Coupon: AntMiner S3 Coupon 0.075 BTC x 5. Still waiting on it to show up in My Coupons.

I am curious how it could be X5 if orders were in pairs?
Can you split your coupon/rebate and do part coupon/part rebate. I would do that, but don't see this option upfront.
minimum order was 2

after that you can have as many as you can afford  Grin

I see. I guess I did not see this option because I placed several orders, each of 2 miners.

Back to back blocks by the Antpool.

Of course, see the surge in hashing between yesterday and today. They are assembling batch 2, then "testing" it.
9467  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 16, 2014, 04:08:59 PM
Anyone received their refund yet?

Doesn't look like it.

Negative. I would expect them to process those after shipping b3 or wait until the coupon or refund choice time has ended. Mine still says Init.

I would first see how batch 1 behaves before deciding if I want more. We might have a few days to see that.
9468  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - Best W/GH/s ratio, Best $/GH/s ratio on: July 16, 2014, 04:04:14 PM
1) for those who can handle the density a small unit is terrific (and I think in 2015 datacenters will start designing new rooms/racks with bitcoin mining in mind)
2) saving a lot on heatsinks, a larger case, and shipping costs
3) with immersion cooling on the horizon it makes some sense to understand how efficiently the units can be cooled with the least aluminum and airflow, as density of chips in immersion will be a prioity

1) Absolutely. As a datacenter developer (and SP30 and SP10 customer), I'm very happy about the SP?0 power density.

1. 40kw per rack requires extreme (and extremely expensive) cooling. I think most datacenters being built in 2015+ will use immersion cooling.
3. I think it's about time to just make the switch over to immersion cooling. There's really no competition. Even with 40C dT air cooling still can't match the density or efficiency of immersion cooling.

1. I don't think so. If you do it the traditional datacenter way, with in-aisle air conditioners or water cooling loops with water chillers on the roof, then yes, it's expensive. I think there's a better way. I should know in late August if it works. It will likely be cheaper than immersion cooling.
3. I expect my DC's PUE to be under 1.05 (not including transformer losses, substation losses, and voltage drop losses). That might be higher than Allied Control's claimed 1.01, but not by much. (Their 1.01 figure certainly doesn't include any of the electrical losses I mentioned, since a transformer's efficiency is essentially never above 99%.)

not to put pressure on you, but is that datacenter coming?  Smiley
what's causing the holdup?
smaller retail spaces in Houston are being renovated in a day or two max as long as sq footage is profitable...
is energy commitment causes the holdup?
sorry to putting you on the spot, but you do talk about your upcoming facility here...
9469  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANN: BITMAIN has Tested Its 28nm Bitcoin Mining Chip BM1382 on: July 16, 2014, 03:58:37 PM
I just received a email from "Bitmain":

BITMAIN has started to ship yesterday. Unfortunately, they have advised me that Batch 1 to 3 are not reaching hashing speed as promised (440 GH/s instead of 478 GH/s). It is very disappointing but I cannot take the risk to validate your order. I can issue you a full refund if you wish OR I can put your order in queue for batch 4. I do not know exactly when batch 4 will start shipping but it's more likely to be the first week of August. Please let me know your choice as soon as possible.
Kindest Regards

I'm kinda mad. He promissed first that my order DO get shippet arround the 20th.

So .... what y'all think Huh Wait OR refund ??

Thanks

who is "Bitmain" that you are referring to? Real Bitmaintech is shipping...

batch one 14:09 order-scheduled for delivery (US central) by the end of the day on 7/17 (i got four emails from bitmain regarding this single order-thanks for being thorough)
batch one 14:31 order-scheduled for deliver by the end of the day on 7/18 (Fri)-I will be mad if UPS will miss me or claim that they did (as already happened once).
batch 2-not shipped yet.
9471  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain AntMiner S2 Setup [HD] on: July 16, 2014, 03:25:26 PM
Interesting S2 behavior on 6/19 version of system software: a "Lazarus" function is active.

Beforehand with my previous S2 once it shut down, it stayed shut down until I power cycled it.

With the last batch version I noticed something different. S2 does shut down on average once in 3-4 days, goes all the way to zero hash for a minute or two, then mysteriously springs back to life automatically. I think that they changed something in software to restore it to "life" automatically (at least my machine behaves like this). This is quite cool if true. Next time your recent S2 miner starts beeping and shows zero hash, don't restart immediately-give it 5 min and see what happens.

I'm not sure what to say, but have you tried to flash the sd card? S2's firmware doesn't save any settings but ip address, so I think that would be normal. Try to flash the sd card, update fw to the latest, and see if anything change.

I should have added that the File System Version says: Thu Apr 10 / the Cgiminer Version says 3.12.0

as well.

The box seems to running "okay" now...but last nights "hiccup" sure is strange.

download and flash 6/19 version of the file system (give it 5 min to flash, but "wheel" will not stop turning in web gui, however after 5 min it was OK to restart in my case)-this one seems to retain saved data better
9474  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 15, 2014, 10:29:40 PM
So I would imagine in batch 1 there is no point in using 4 pci connections.

no in fact this batch may like under volt and under clock    .  maybe 400gh and 240 watts.

my gut tells me batch 1 will prefer the lower then 441 they claim it will do.

400 gh at 240watts will make roi  in 140 days if diff is 12%

initial numbers were:
390W-504Gh
366W-478Gh
now
340W-441Gh
BTW, the table that i have seen does not have values corresponding to 441Gh
I saw 0.72V for 14.18 Gh/s per chip=453.76GH with 240W power (0.528/Gh). i don't think these chip characteristics can be very different, can they?
What was a point of publishing them then?

In addition-if I don't choose anything (coupon/rebate), then 10% coupon will appear automatically, right?
9475  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANN: BITMAIN has Tested Its 28nm Bitcoin Mining Chip BM1382 on: July 15, 2014, 09:38:14 PM
Still no shipping info for me, but its 5:17am in China.
Crossing my fingers for a Friday delivery?

Sidenote: BTC will make it to the general public mind when there will be either a Family guy OR South park episode(s) that would include bitcoin and, of course, some character's shenanigans around it...somebody should pitch the idea to McFarlane and/or Parker/Stone.
9476  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - Best W/GH/s ratio, Best $/GH/s ratio on: July 15, 2014, 09:20:31 PM
The use of Fahrenheit hurts my mind.

A simple mnemonic formula: [degrees (F)-32]x5/9=degrees C
Personally, I am bi-temperate (as per bi-lingual) so to speak due to personal history, so it does not matter to me, but i've seen people burning their fingers in a water bath that said 70o (they thought that it is in Fahr., but in scientific establishments everything is in C).
So...37.8oC-better than in a sauna, but anybody has difficulty coping without A/C.
Not the worst-that is Arizona at 116oF or middle east at 120-122.
9477  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - Best W/GH/s ratio, Best $/GH/s ratio on: July 15, 2014, 07:27:13 PM
3. Cointerra-did not hit the mark (off by 20%)-I did not order this one, although I live close by.

Fellow TX miner eh? DFW area here, how about you? If you are close I would love to come check out your SP30 when it comes in.. I have been eyeing them for awhile now and would love to see how it compares to my old terraminer in terms of noise/heat..

Houston...love it despite 100oF  Smiley
I am trying to find a home for it elsewhere, though, if it is anything like Sp-10. Some places offer quite reasonable hosting.

So I clicked on the 10% coupon choice, but now when I click on my coupons there's nothing in there. Where's the 10% coupon?
It is under 'My Applications'

My miners == not shipped  Cry
For those who have shipped, any chance on getting the 'create time' of your order?   Out of curiosity...  Grin

Mines are not shipped in their system (Bitmaintech), but it is when i look into UPS.com..

Mine is 2014-06-30 14:45:34.0

My first order was at 14:09-shipped
Second at 14;31-not shipped

I checked ups.com but no results as of yet.
I'll be patient. My order was 2014-06-30 14:31:14.0
.....shouldn't I have been shipped 14 minutes before yours??   Cheesy

I have no shipping info

My first order at 14:09-shipped in UPS system
My second order at 14:31-not shipped yet
However, the second order had longer time to confirm and I noticed that they had a glitch somewhere between 14:22 and 14:55 that caused late confirmations-maybe this is the cause.
9479  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Let's get the denominations of BTC straight on: July 15, 2014, 01:19:01 AM
I think this is something that a lot of merchants are wondering. My site uses bits. I like that it allows for two decimal places if bitcoin go way up in value and will probably work well until we need to subdivide satoshi's further. What are your thoughts?

microbitcoins (or microbits, or mikes, or mickeys, or mics, or µbits, or µBTC, or µBitcoins, or you-bees, or youbits, or you-bee-tea-seas, or mu-bits, or mu-BTC, or mu-bitcoins, or bits, or whatever nickname you want to use) are a good choice. It's great that they allow two decimal places and that most of the digits are to the left of the decimal point where a separator such as a comma can be used to improve visual clarity.

I'm just a bit confused why people like the nickname "bits" for microbitcoins?

It seems confusing and misleading.  Bits?  Is that regular bits (Bitcoins), or millibits (millibitcoins), or microbits (microbitcoins)?

I say, stick with the a representation where 1 satoshi is 0.01, but use a nickname for microbitcoins that is less confusing and misleading than "bits".

Note:  I can't believe we're having this discussion yet again.  This has to be the 15th poll I've seen just on this site about this issue, and the 50th time I've seen discussions about it.  I'd think that by now people would realize that there is no official organization that can decree what the name will be.  Everyone is going to use whatever the heck name they want.  There will be some confusion for a while, and eventually popular nicknames will form organically just like they do with everything else in life.  There was no official organization that declared that dollars should be called "bucks", and yet we all understand when someone says, "that'll be 6 bucks".

because either some company (cough-bitpay-cough) or some hot headed users decided that they will ram "bits" down everybody's throats, but as numbers here are showing, only 37% are happy about it.
9480  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: The last Batch of AntMiner S2 1TH/s Miner, Now $1610 per unit on: July 15, 2014, 01:02:00 AM
I'm trying to convert my antminer s2 so that it is mostly silent. I've already purchased 4 new silent fans (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835242011) and installed them however the CFM just isn't good enough and the antminer temp is getting up to 71c. My next plan is to buy 4 more 140mm fans to place on top of the boards with the case off. I'm thinking another 4 of the same or maybe upgrading a tad and getting (http://www.frozencpu.com/products/13819/fan-901/Akasa_140mm_x_25mm_VIPER_PWM_Fan_w_Hydro_Dynamic_Bearings_AK-FN063.html?tl=g36c435s1104&id=kepe2EsK#blank) Do you think 25dba is going to be too loud or should I stick with the 18dba 87CFM fans?

Second question is going to be fan direction/placement for optimal airflow. Should I configure it so the 4 side fans all blow air into the antminer and the 4 on top to suck air out and blow it upwards. Or should I use the 4 ontop to blow air down into the antminer and the 4 on the sides to suck the hot air out?

what is your dB reading currently at 1m distance? I have one fan at slow rpm blowing into the miner, nothing to suck air out and it is at 62-63dB, which is quiet.
