This one is! Free is better than .com for me right now as the site is growing. Thanks for commenting.

I'd say you were right, but we'd both be wrong.

I agree with this. TK's have a reputation of being shut down or just being offline for no reason. A lot of hosts are automatically deleting them now as well. I figured "free TLD? Sure!" Out of three tries over a couple years, I always ran into the same problems: sites offline as a result of the domain or being removed/warned by hosts altogether.

I hope to buy a .com soon so these posts would go a little differently.

Good idea!

Or, if you want to use a free domain, you can go with .co.cc. I've never had issues with those in the past.

It does not matter where the complaint originated from as long as the complaint against BFL has legal merit.  The matter would be dealt with in jurisdiction of Johnson County or at the state level depending on which office moved against the company as BFL has a physical presence here.  If they do not have a registered agent handling their legal matters, then BFL would be served at their physical location.

Place incorporated does not protect the company from legal matters filed against their physical location.  If their registered agent (often a lawyer) is located in a different state than the physical location then the company will have to find legal council in the jurisdiction of the physical location where the legal action was brought forth.

It seem you have a better understand of these procedures. What would happen if multiple unknown individuals served BFL from all over the globe? Would they combine them all in one suit?

No, it does not work that way.

This is correct. Even if you and a friend that lives with you filed separate lawsuits, you would each have separate hearings.

You are able to do a group lawsuit (essentially what you do is have everyone's name as different plaintiffs) but I have no idea how that would work when dealing with people in other countries.

A group lawsuit is called "Class Action" and it is best done through consumer organizations that bring claims on behalf of large groups of consumers. If the number of consumers run into thousands then yes a "Class Action Suit" may apply.

I was speaking (based on what the original poster was asking) on behalf of smaller groups. Ex. you get 5 people together to file.

Getting large numbers of people is very difficult. Not to mention, in many cases the company being sued won't have the funds to pay off many people, so smaller groups can be quite advantageous. It's really a gamble all on its own.
9484  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Im a fool, encrypted wallet.dat , need advice on: May 16, 2013, 10:27:46 PM
I experienced the same problem before. My advice to you is try to remember the password. Think in a simple/easy way, do not make the situation worse by trying to remember more complex passwords that you would have used. I remembered my password away from the computer/keyboard. Trying multiple failure passwords would make it much harder for you to remember. Good Luck!

To add on to this, don't let your fear of loss bother you. Fear causes chemical reactions in the brain that causes decreased thought ability ("fight or flight"). It's the same problem a lot of people have with tests.

Just let it go and occasionally it will come back to you (or should).

The more you work yourself up about it the harder it's going to be to remember.
9485  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: POLL: Would You use a Bitcoin Search Engin on: May 16, 2013, 10:19:08 PM
I would definitely use a bitcoin search engine.  In particular, it would be nice to be able to restrict a search for online vendors that accept bitcoin.

Thats a great idea.

I need somebody to make some text lists. if someone will do this i could have the site up in a matter of days:

1. list of vendors
2. list of faucets, gambling sites, and others
3. list of altcoin websites

I like these ideas as well! A little directory would be cool too. Instead of having to go to different sites to get lists and then compare them to each other, have a single database listing everything.

9487  Economy / Gambling / Re: SatoshiPoker.org - IMPORTANT UPDATE - Lowest Rake - 10 BTC Jackpot on: May 16, 2013, 09:20:34 PM
might I kindly suggest - for freerolls only - possibly trying something along the lines of:

- at the start of the second level, removing players who have been sitting out all through the first level.
- removing players who have been sitting out for more than a certain reasonable number of hands in a row, like 10-20 hands in a row.
- make the freerolls turbo - 5-6 min levels. (I like the 6-max format that is sometimes used bc of the action it generates)
- shorten registration time to 20-15 mins prior to start (sure, you might not get as many runners, but if people reg and don't bother to play/show up or just reg hoping to finish in the money without playing, then what's the point?)

Of your ideas, only the first one would really solve the problem.

#2 - if people win a ton of chips, they often go out for a while and return later to continue playing. I see nothing wrong with doing this, as they were there and (presumably) would be taking more chips if they were still active

#3 - turbo doesn't fix the problem with unfair advantages. A player on a table with nothing but AFK's will be getting tons of chips, while the players on a table with non-AFK's will each have the same number of chips but spread among them. This allows the single player to bully, as well as just have an overall chip stack advantage early on with no risk

#4 - people will just register 15-20 minutes early, then go afk, sleep or whatever. Only takes a few seconds to register, so you can even wake yourself up before it's time, run over, click the button and go back to sleep

It doesn't stop here, emails to btccheap.com are answered with "We are not Minung United, they are scam".
(Sure, you are not Mining United, that's why their website refers to you now, idiots!)
Still anyone out there doubting this is a scam?

Nope, I'm with you on that!
9489  Economy / Exchanges / Re: BuyBitcoins.com - 50,000 bitcoins for sale at 15 BTC/USD on: May 16, 2013, 04:35:44 PM
ah damn, if only i had discovered btc in 2009 or 2010...mining was profitable with everything, in that era...

You wouldn't have even had to mine. The prices were, for a long time (over a year) less than half a cent each. So $1 would have bought at least 200 BTC, minimum (I'm sure you could have obtained them even cheaper).
9490  Economy / Services / Re: Bitcoin for download service on: May 16, 2013, 02:47:21 PM

But those have all these fancy Internet words I don't understand!

or do it the hacky way, make a zip file put a random password on it, then upload it to dropbox or something to host files then when people want the file password, they pay you, make sure you get them to sign a message with there address so you know someone aint trying to pull one of those "I downloaded but lost it can I get the password again" type scams.

I must say, this is sounding pretty good. If nothing else, I'll have to do this.

as another idea just to make it more secure, send the zip to one person then after that person confirms they downloaded it, remove it then change the password, so they can't share, but you have to make sure the zip password is very random and long

This keeps them from sharing the original link, but then they could simply share the zip file (with the password, or even extract, re-zip and share that). So it really doesn't resolve that problem.

Once the person has the file, they can share it, no matter what, but it does solve the issue of preventing it and deterring people from doing it. He wasn't going to be sharing it to a 1 million people, only a few so I think that would work just fine. Unless of course you have a better idea, but this thread is old so I don't know why you feel necessary to comment on it.

Yeah, that's my fault. I didn't check the date of who I was quoting (people need to stop resurrecting necro threads!).
9491  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Don't use Miningunited.com! on: May 16, 2013, 01:01:58 PM
In a lot of ways investments are gambling (you're essentially gambling in the hopes that your investment pays off and the company doesn't tank). So you're right, :p.
If you are investing you are giving money, because you believe in the business model / someones skills etc. If you solely rely on luck or you don't know whats going on it's gambling.

In this case, though, I don't think there's really enough proof that it's a scam ("yet"). So really what you're doing is putting up money "because you believe in the business model" (you're hoping that they really can give back more than you paid in, as a result of their hashing. The hashing and returning of funds + interest would be their business model).

No, actually it's more of "you don't know whats going on", have you actually seen any evidence that they are running mining machines with the needed power?
People asked for it and it was never shown.

Well, in the case of the business model itself, I don't think (even if they were purchasing the hardware) it would be sustainable due to the high interest rates. It's more of a pyramid scheme to me.

As for whether or not they are running the machines (should they be legitimate), it's possible that they are investing into something like one of the funds (ASICMINER I think is one?), rather than running their own.

Every time I get "Something went wrong, please refresh the page and try again." Sad

This is the exact same thing that keeps happening to me as well.

problem is there is no such thing as free money.

The money isn't free but is paid by advertisements. Advertisers pay to be seen, and others share that revenue. So it's not "free money" because someone, somewhere is paying it.

I'm with you in regards to the "scam" accusations. If you deal with them, treat it like an investment. It's entirely possible that they aren't scamming and just don't understand what's going to happen long-term with their business plan. Or it could be a pyramid scheme.

No problem, others will learn it the hard way.
It's sad MU probably got tons of BTCs if they decide to run away now :<

Very true, I believe this will happen. They have already got a lot of users using their service, which haven't received anything yet.
The ones that claim they have are normally low post counts and can't provide any evidence, however there are some who generally give good evidence, but MU could just do this to build up a reputation.

I have been wary of this website since it got announced, I'm not going to say it's a scam without any solid proof, but I will warn others to look into every possible aspect of the site and chose wisely.

9498  Economy / Gambling / Re: SatoshiPoker.org - IMPORTANT UPDATE - Lowest Rake - 10 BTC Jackpot on: May 16, 2013, 10:32:31 AM
We have released an update for the downloadable client. Unfortunally we can't have it updated with the autoupdate function, so downloading the client from www.satoshipoker.org/SatoshiPokerSetup.exe is needed to update the client.

The fixes include
- changed bet color to white so it is better visible on the dark green background
- changed the blind announcements, they no longer cover the cards
- changed the 2nd confirmation before tournament starts. When registered for a tournament it will just open the tournament table when tourney starts
Plus some features that make some data better readable and filterable.

We are still working on the hand history feature which will allow players to use huds and addon software as pokertracker. Also our bonus systems should be done soon Wink

we'll keep you up to date!

Is it possible to auto remove afk players from tournaments too? I was in one a day or two ago where we had like 7 people out of 40+ that were actually there. The rest sat out the entire time.
9499  Economy / Gambling / Re: SealsWithClubs.eu | Largest Bitcoin Poker Site | No Banking | Fast Cashouts on: May 16, 2013, 09:31:45 AM
What is the largest pot you've seen thus far on Seals?

Also nice activity! 400+ people on right now

These may be the top 3 pots:

PLO 856.34 BTC in Sept 2012
PLO 576.30 BTC in Aug 2012
NLHE 566.66 BTC in Jan 2013

On that note, I'm not sure why the pot size matters. It doesn't tell much. As an example:

4 players go in to a pot for 100BTC each. Pot size 400BTC. Winner effectively gets 300BTC (400-100).
2 players go in to a pot for 200BTC each. Pot size 400BTC. Winner effectively gets 200BTC (400-200).

I think a better question they should have asked is "what is the largest net win on one hand?"
9500  Economy / Exchanges / Re: BuyBitcoins.com - 50,000 bitcoins for sale at 15 BTC/USD on: May 16, 2013, 09:12:33 AM
Ah, 3 years ago. I still remember what I did in those days, watching Clannad on my MSI GX640, playing TF2. Didn't know what bitcoins were.

lol, I was doing some research on coin-related things last night when I ran across a post where someone had up a chart to show that BTC was going to be really successful. At the time it had gone from 1 cent to 13 cents over a period of multiple months, but the poster stated that it was going to be big in the future. I doubt they had any idea how big...

Show it. I would love to see it. Also, I believe we are gonna be the next lazslo soon. Nothing trumps 10,000 BTC for a pizza.. but then.. people will face palm when we sell bitcoin for a measly $120 each.

Having issues finding where it was. Not sure exactly what I searched that came up with it (I didn't realize the post was that old until reading it though). But here's a chart that you can use to see the historical value:

http://bitcoincharts.com/charts/mtgoxUSD#tgSzm1g10zm2g25zl

Choose to change the date to "all data" or you can enter a specific period. But here's some more data (dates):

May 22, 2010   Laszlo first to buy pizza with Bitcoins agreeing upon paying 10,000 BTC for ~$25 worth of pizza courtesy of Jercos. ($0.0025/BTC)
July 12, 2010   Beginning of a 10x increase in exchange value over a 5 day period, from about $0.008/BTC to $0.08/BTC
October 07, 2010   Exchange rate started climbing up from $0.06/BTC after several flat months.
November 6, 2010   The Bitcoin economy passed US $1 million. The MtGox price touched USD $0.50/BTC.
February 9, 2011   Bitcoin reached parity with the US dollar, touching $1 per BTC at MtGox.

Found this really interesting as well... hash rates based on blocks. Shows how it increased very slowly until it really took off:
