Yes, ERC-721 is a newer "non-fungible token" standard. It is backward-compatible with ERC-20, and supported by a number of wallets, like Trust Wallet. Each token has a unique ID, so you can transfer, sell, or trade specific tokens -- in our case, CryptoBeasties cards/characters.

The standard was co-developed by the teams behind CryptoKitties and Decentraland.

We're taking this a little farther in our app, so each CryptoBeasties token can be leveled-up and given additional attributes and powers. They aren't just static, unchangeable tokens like CryptoKitties.

I should add that Decentraland Land parcels have been a really good investment for some traders. Land values don't necessarily follow the crypto markets, so it's not a bad way to diversify your portfolio.

Yes, It's pretty easy to get started in Decentraland. The basic process is:

1. Have a look at the various land parcels available in the marketplace at https://market.decentraland.org/

2. Get enough MANA to buy the parcel(s) you want. MANA is traded on many different exchanges, and then buy your land.

3. Come up with an idea or a design for what you want to put on your land. You might partner with a 3d modeler or a programmer if you want to do something complex. Or just buy some 3d models from an existing marketplace and use those.

4. Download the Decentraland SDK from https://developers.decentraland.org/ and start experimenting. By the way, you don't need to own land to play around with the SDK and build scenes. You only need to own land if you want to upload something to the shared VR world.

Keep in mind that the SDK is still changing, and the alpha client isn't live yet. But it won't be much longer until they are finalized. Decentraland has been really good about hitting their milestones so far.

That wasn't just pump & dump. April 23rd was the day Decentraland released their development SDK. The price spike seems to be the market responding to the team delivering something real. (Though of course, you can never count out "pump & dump" as a factor).

The price has climbed again since that initial spike, which shows that there's something real behind it. I agree it's going to take a long time for the Decentraland VR world to become a reality, but the more they deliver, the more valuable MANA and LAND will be.

Have you listed your lands for sale in the new Decentraland Marketplace app yet? They have enabled peer-to-peer land sales for MANA. It's a pretty nice interface too.

Sorry to hear about the project's demise! Don't let it discourage you too much. I think there's still great potential to create something more fair and decentralized, in spite of all the forces pushing for commercialization and corporate control. Keep the ideas alive and it will happen.

Actually a secondary market has already sprung up in Decentraland for programmers as well as 3d artists. The first versions of the world will primarily contain low-poly 3d models (no scripting). But the next iteration will support scripting using TypeScript (type-safe Javascript). I already know some developers who are getting paid to prototype apps/games for Decentraland land owners, using Javascript & AFrame technologies.

It's in Decentraland's RocketChat at https://chat.decentraland.org . After you join, look for the #land_trading channel.

I'm pretty sure there will be another land sale at some point. A number of lands weren't taken in the first sale, and if they don't do another one there will be large empty spaces -- I don't think anyone wants that.

I assume they will eventually open up a new land sale/auction to distribute the remaining lands, but I haven't heard anything about when that will be.

Meanwhile land trading is happening now in the Decentraland chat's #land_trading channel. I've also seen people running personal land auctions on Reddit. At the moment, prices are high for those, so you might do better to wait for the next official sale.

Basing it on NEM seems like a really solid idea. It's a very efficient technology.

I dug into their github and realized NEM was built using Java. The question will be: will you be able to find enough Java/blockchain engineers? lol Actually there are a lot of solid Java engineers in the world, and I'm sure many of them will be excited to work on blockchain technology.

Yes, the whole idea of Decentraland is to let people upload 3d models and scripts for their Land and share that with visitors to the world. In the first (minimum viable product) version, it will probably just be non-interactive 3d models, like architecture, landscapes and so on that you can walk through. They already have a simple command line interface tool to let land owners start messing around with content.

The next versions will support scripting of behaviors (they have suggested TypeScript, a type-safe extension of Javascript, as the scripting language). At that point things like teleportation, limited access, and avatars will be added in.

Well, that takes me out of the running for the moment -- it's really out of a poster's control whether or not they get a Merit.    But in any case, I still support the ideas here, and hope Nevra/XEV succeeds.

I would like to learn more about the next steps after the airdrop. Any ideas for unique uses for this coin, once it's released? How could it be used to maintain fairness and decentralization?

ICO's will never die, they'll just fade away...

What I mean is: they will morph into new forms to adapt to new government regulations and market forces.

Many ICOs now require pre-registration and KYC info for contributors, so that greatly increases their cost-per-contributor. Which means there's value in reducing the number of contributors while increasing their contribution amounts. If they can raise enough funds with a private placement round, they will, and be done with it.

There will still be a place for the broad, populist kinds of ICOs though. Look at singularity,net or dadi.cloud for examples of ICOs that got lots of participants in spite of having KYC requirements and maximum buy-in limits. If the business idea is "high concept" and has broad worldwide appeal -- or if it really is decentralized in the sense of making a business process more free and democratic -- then this kind of ICO is still a good way to go.

This project has some real promise. But I am a little put off by the multi-level referral system, and especially by the referral leaderboard on the token sale website. It makes the venture seem scammier than it really is.

I'm following the bnktothefuture ICO very closely. They have a super-experienced team that's been part of a ton of successful ICOs. It looks like a pretty safe bet.
