I haven't seen anybody post about what would be my biggest worry if I were trying out alternative block chains. I realize this may be perceived as "Gavin is FUD'ding anything that isn't bitcoin!" (FUD == Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt) But I think some of you might be forgetting some basic computer security fundamentals in the excitement to be early adopters.
When I first heard about bitcoin, my questions were:
1) Can it possibly work (do the ideas for how it works make sense)?
2) Is it a scam?
3) If it is not a scam, could it open my computer up to viruses/trojans if I run it?
I answered those questions by:
1) Reading and understanding Satoshi's whitepaper. Then thinking about it for a day or two and reading it again.
2) Finding out everything I could about the project. I read every forum thread here (there were probably under a hundred threads back then) and read Satoshi's initial postings on the crypto mailing list.
3) Downloaded and skimmed the source code to see if it looked vulnerable to buffer overflow or other remotely exploitable attacks.
If I were going to experiment with an alternative block-chain, I'd go through the same process again. But I'm an old conservative fuddy-duddy.
If you want to take a risk on a brand-new alternative block-chain, I'd strongly suggest that you:
1) Run the software in a virtual machine or on a machine that doesn't contain anything valuable.
2) Don't invest more money or time than you can afford to lose.
3) Use a different passphrase at every exchange site.

I hope Bitcointalk will start caring about its people ,there should be new moderators that can fish out bad projects on here to avoid wasting time of bounty hunters ,and about KYC ive come to think of it as many bounty hunters don't like KYC I'm sure if Bitcointalk is the one asking for KYC so as to limit frauds and multiple accounts bounty hunters won't complain, we will follow the rules ,but first 'SAFE US FROM BAD SCAMMY PROJECTS' ,no matter how wise we investigate a project they end up been scam ,scammers are getting wiser as well.looook at desico for example  Can anyone tell me if he/she knew Desico is a scam from day one? I see that BTC and ETH are two coins that have the highest capitalization in Coinmarketcap.
But I don't know why Bitcoin is still up and ETH always maintains current prices.
Why did that happen? And now, I have to invest in Bitcoin or Ethereum?

in my opinion, if the price of ethereum is still down it's because investors are panicking and turning to bitcoin which is considered to be a good alternative in terms of investment. but if in my opinion if you really want good results to exceed 100% I think 2021 will be the year of bitcoin for Bull Run. |

Hey guys. Remember, in crypto sphere we can’t trust anyone! ICO rating sites are lying to us, you have to do YOUR OWN RESEARCH always! Remember this, and don’t let yourself be scammed!
For now, I think there are many supporting factors in trusting a project. not all ICO sites are fraudulent. many of them are official and legally incorporated. it's just that indeed we need to be careful especially about a project that indeed the existence of the team is still a mystery. |

Is it normal that projects will not pay bounty rewards because their sales doesnt reached the target?

Yes, they usually do things like that. if the softcap minimum target is not achieved, then usually a project will be frozen or suspended and can even be failed and never run again. looking for a bounty project that already has a research base on a good project. |

In 2017, keen investors saw the bullish market and invested in any ICO in sight. Fast forward to 2018, and most of these ICO’s are dead, dying, or a scam.  So, what is the difference beetween ICO 2017 and ICO 2018? in my view so far, compared to ICOs that have died or failed, ICOs who have high success are those who are able to develop unique products and have better benefits and of course have a good marketing strategy. |
