1  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How does a cryptocurrency gain value? on: February 28, 2024, 06:48:51 PM
Hello
So, for a bit, I thought of sharing my knowledge here (even if I'm new here) so as to carry the beginners along. This might come in handy for most of us.
So, I'll be going down to the very BASIC.
What's cryptocurrency?
It's a decentralized encrypted exchange unit.
Right.
It's transactions are visible through a decentralized ledger (Blockchain)
How can you tell which cryptocurrency will go up ?
Truth is, there's no clear cut out way. But there are laws that if followed, you can make predictions. Good ones.
The law of demand and supply can help you understand how the prices of crypto changes.
Demand:  The higher the demand, the higher the price. Quite simple,  crypto platforms releasing better utilities to attract users leads to value rise.
Supply: The more the units of crypto, the less valuable they are in units. If a cryptocurrency is readily available in bulk to the public, the value drops.
Scarcity is value😅
Look at it this way; bywhen supply grows faster than demand, the currency falls, and when demand grows faster than supply the value appreciates.
So, I'll talk later on about ways to make predictions on cryptocurrency rise. Apply the rules and make accurate predictions.

Cryptocurrencies gain value through a complex interplay of various factors, encompassing both intrinsic and extrinsic elements. Firstly, the scarcity mechanism embedded in many cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin's capped supply of 21 million coins, mirrors the scarcity dynamics of precious metals like gold, thus imbuing them with intrinsic value. This fixed supply, coupled with increasing demand driven by factors like adoption, technological advancements, regulatory developments, and geopolitical uncertainties, can lead to appreciation in value over time.

Moreover, network effects play a pivotal role, as the utility and adoption of a cryptocurrency increase with the size of its network. As more individuals and institutions utilize a cryptocurrency for transactions, investments, or as a store of value, its network effect strengthens, fostering greater trust and liquidity, consequently bolstering its value proposition.

Additionally, market sentiment, influenced by factors ranging from media coverage, investor speculation, and macroeconomic trends, can significantly impact cryptocurrency prices in the short term. Furthermore, technological innovations and improvements in the underlying blockchain technology, such as scalability solutions or enhanced security measures, can enhance the utility and desirability of a cryptocurrency, thereby positively affecting its value.

Lastly, regulatory developments and institutional involvement also exert a substantial influence on cryptocurrency valuations. Clarity and favorable regulatory frameworks can alleviate concerns regarding legality and foster mainstream acceptance, attracting institutional investors and paving the way for increased adoption, liquidity, and consequently, valuation appreciation.

In essence, the value of a cryptocurrency is a multifaceted phenomenon, influenced by a combination of scarcity, utility, network effects, market sentiment, technological advancements, regulatory landscape, and institutional involvement. Understanding these dynamics is essential for investors and enthusiasts alike in comprehending the intricacies of cryptocurrency valuation.

- one of the Administrators could create, moderate and promote a new topic with the "Scam Hunters" contest...
... - I know that this can be done today, also, via "Report to moderator" link, but I feel like something is missing as people do not use this option as it should.

The report to moderator option is being used for its specific function, which is to report low posts which add no value to discussions, and also any other situation where mods can take action.
Scams are not moderated by the forum for a number of reasons, hence they are not reported, instead you can open a post in the scan accusation board - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=83.0 ,Or use the negative feedback or trust flags.

I know, but even so, there are still tons of scams being promoted as the reactivity of the members is rather low regarding these facts. I was just thinking that motivating people to "fight" against the scammers might help.
3  Other / Meta / Scam Hunters on: December 20, 2019, 12:29:22 PM
I can see that more and more posts promote scam projects and unfortunately this affects every day the reputation of this forum. I think people should be somehow motivated to act as a BitcoinTalk ambassadors.

These are my ideas on how we can lower this phenomenon to near zero:

 - one of the Administrators could create, moderate and promote a new topic with the "Scam Hunters" contest
 - prices could be: "ambassadors badges" , merit points etc. (at a certain number of validated/confirmed scams by admins you can receive different badges: bronze, silver, gold ...)
 - of the other side, people promoting scams will be discouraged to insist into these operations knowing that the ambassadors are motivated to find them fast
 - I know that this can be done today, also, via "Report to moderator" link, but I feel like something is missing as people do not use this option as it should.

What do you think, guys, about this?

4  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Are stable coins solving the problem of providing stability to our funds? on: November 25, 2019, 08:10:14 AM
Definitely, stable coins can be the key for the periods when market dumps badly. When the volatility is strong it is highly recommended to temporary switch some of your funds into stable coins until a trend confirmation.

Stable coins are also very useful when trying to multiply your funds via trading.
5  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Verify wallets before installing and using. Don't do this, you'll lose your fund on: November 22, 2019, 08:19:08 AM
Indeed, threats are everywhere in crypto world and the risks to see your funds lost are bigger every day, specially if you're using online wallets.

However prices continued to decrease constantly for hardware wallets. You can buy very cheap a Ledger Nano S or a Trezor wallet (Trezor is more expensive and it does pretty much the same thing) and get rid of the stress every time you check your balances.

I bought a Ledger Nano S and since then I sleep better thinking that my crypto are safe  Smiley

8  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Cursor issue on my notebook on: October 29, 2019, 06:17:01 PM
If your any pointing device driver is outdated or corrupted, it would cause your mouse cursor keeps moving on its own. It can fix the problem through updating your pointing device driver, like mouse, keyboard and touchpad driver. ... Driver Easy will automatically recognize your system and find the correct drivers for it.

Also, I had a similar issue a few years ago when I used as mouse pad a white cardboard. White color was the reason at that time and the solution was to replace the pad with a colored one.

11  Other / Beginners & Help / Best / Worst experience in crypto on: October 26, 2019, 02:49:45 PM
I think it would be helpful for the beginners to hear about good and bad experiences in crypto from people with more experience on this forum.

I will start sharing my best and worst experiences since I joined BitcoinTalk.

Best experience: I joined the Cube (Auto) bounty as a French translator in late 2017. After receiving my coins I was able to sell them for almost 1 Btc.

Worst experience: I used constantly Cobinhood exchange during the last 2 years. A few months ago Cobinhood became a scam, people cannot widthraw their funds, Telegram chat is blocked and their token (COB) felt to near zero. I always believed this exchange will come back to life, I constantly refused to see the signs indicating it's scam potential and now I'm still stuck there with a few hundred bucks that I won't see them back most probably.

Advise for beginners (and not only): NEVER (but never) invest in crypto more than you can afford to lose.

What are your best and worst experiences in crypto?
12  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The newbie’s ballad on: October 26, 2019, 01:32:26 PM
Nice Ballad @killat. Even I have participated in that contest. Here is my art - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5193860.msg52827543#msg52827543

It is good to see that everyone are participating in that contest and presenting their creative arts. I would request everyone to participate in that contest.

Nice one, well done. Good luck to be one of the winners. Nice to see there are a lot of talented people here. Cheers!
13  Other / Beginners & Help / The newbie’s ballad on: October 25, 2019, 08:10:21 AM
Last night I was working for my 10th anniversary art contest design. If some of you did not hear about it yet, one of the forum’s admins, theymos, is organizing an art contest. If you have creative and original ideas, I encourage you to join the contest. All details here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5193860.0

I always considered that words are a form of an art, too. So I paused my drawing and composed what I like to call “The newbie’s ballad”.

I wanted like two years ago
About Bitcoin something to know.
And soon, after an evening walk
I signed-up right on Bitcoin Talk.

I learned a lot from people here,
And own them all at least a beer.
Bounties became my full time job,
I wasn't anymore a slob.

I was a NEWBIE, very small,
Now I'm a MEMBER ... thin and tall.
When working hard you can, from zero
To be one day a super HERO.

It's been 10 years, the time has flown,
With you together all we grown.
A few more words I want to say:
Thank you for all and Happy Birthday!

14  Other / Meta / Re: 10th anniversary art contest on: October 24, 2019, 08:40:26 PM
Being primarily a text-based forum, it's not surprising that there hasn't been much original bitcointalk.org art, but I've always thought that this has been a bit of a shame. Therefore, for bitcointalk.org's 10th anniversary, let's have an art contest!

I think that text can be a form of art, too. Original? Why not?  Smiley

15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin fell again, what conspiracy? on: September 27, 2019, 06:11:28 AM
Most crypto is overvalued and the changes we are seeing are normal and expected in current conditions. Relax and enjoy the ride.

Why do I say this?

Every year people sell in the fall and winter and buy in the spring and summer. This is because they are liquidating assets for tax reasons. It's pretty normal.

Also, India and a few other countries are regulating cryptocurrency. This always creates a downturn as people sell, trying to avoid taxes and such.

I don't think Bitcoin needs to be 10k. It was over-inflated as it was used as a haven for tax dodgers. It's only people trying to profit off explosive unstable coin growth who are at real risk. Never invest what you can't lose, friends.
16  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do we get the best at this moment? on: September 27, 2019, 06:09:57 AM
When the bears are in the market I just hide myself until they are gone.

Though, I can buy a simple dip if the market losses let's like $10 billion in a week. But when the market lost over $50 billion in a week... Wow, it better to wait and see the outcome. Better wait!
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Altcoin's future. on: September 26, 2019, 06:13:57 AM
Let's be honest , no body know the future in the first place. Come to cryptocurrency same with stocks, forex . Is base on individuals traders
how to see , when to buy , sell.

We all just predict . Smiley This is how the market go. No way it either go all the way high never drop. It must have some drop before can go up is like a reset , trend so there u go.
18  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BAKKT launching tomorrow but BTC price falls? on: September 26, 2019, 06:08:47 AM
When the price will go low, whales will accumulate. Due to this accumulation, price will then increase. In current circumstances and at current levels, 5k does not seem probable. I am not some expert though.

Usually price goes to the opposite direction compared to what people think.
19  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is the US Government Trying To Control Crypto? on: September 25, 2019, 06:18:33 AM
I don't think governments care that much about Bitcoin and crypto in general.
The idea behind crypto (BTC) was never about lambos and moons. Personally I don't like lambos which is the only reason I don't own one.

And technically 10% jump over 1 month is a bull run Wink

Educate your self and let money work for you Wink
