1  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Have a wallet.dat in a RAR5 folder....need some help on: November 21, 2020, 11:33:09 PM
Thanks for the reply - but I need to crack the RAR file first, to get the wallet - i am aware there are some commercial offerings re the wallet itself, but not the container (the RAR). I suppose shooting them a quick email to ask wouldnt do any harm though...

$rar5$16$249fde725d3fcb699d3b16c21a8fd56e$15$4c4d8eedb8c2eafeed907bbbde59f805$8$f278d763dffbef33 is the offending RAR5 hash. I bought a USB years ago at a police auction in a European country, and apparently it has 9 Bitcoins in a wallet in it - but its encrypted in a rar file. I've thrown Rockyou and other assorted wordlists at it, and asked in a couple of places on the internet, but no joy so far.

Not sure how I can really prove this, but I am offering a bounty of 1 bitcoin if I can get into the RAR file and there is indeed a wallet.dat (locked or not, I'm not sure). I've actually been on this forum for years now, but hardly ever posted.

If this is allowed, great, if not, then I apologise in advance!

Thanks.
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Lubuntu & CGMiner - help with reboot & autostart as root on: September 13, 2014, 01:03:19 PM
Afternoon all.

Bit of a linux newbie but I've managed to get Lubuntu 12.04 installed on an ancient laptop (it doesnt even have a working battery, its direct from the mains...) and have a couple of gridseeds hooked up to it. I don't mine for profit, I multi-mine for the interest, but my 2 gridseeds are modded to produce about 1mhash between them.

I've hit a problem though, the gridseeds seem to fail every hour or so, and go to 'off' on CGminer (3.7.2) which means I have to 'teamviewer' in from whereever I am, and restart CGMiner. It only runs as root on my system for some reason.

What I'm after, is a script to restart CGminer every 45 mins, as root. I dont necessarily have to reboot the whole laptop, just restart cgminer. I've tried CGMon but that doesnt seem to catch the gridseed going 'off'.

Like I said, a little new to linux so any help/advice greatly received.

Thanks
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Quiet FPGA Litecoin questions.... on: November 26, 2013, 10:18:57 PM
Thanks for the reply. No FPGA's at all for scrypt? Oh. OK. Maybe watercooling would be an option for GPU's...
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Quiet FPGA Litecoin questions.... on: November 26, 2013, 07:42:12 PM
Afternoon folks. I am aware that using a FPGA to mine for Litecoins (I want to mine for them, rather than Bitcoin) isnt the most effective way currently to do so BUT I have a slightly unusual set-up. I can operate a mining rig but it must be really quiet....I can't have 2 GPU's whirring away with a big fan next to them, I can have a quiet setup with a small fan to circulate air. The setup will be next to a window which can be left cracked open so there will be airflow.

I'd like to pair the FPGA with a Raspberry Pi and would like some advice on how to go about doing this - options for FPGA's would be welcomed. I'm quite happy in Linux but have not worked with FPGA's previously.

This rig will be left to its own devices in a remote location and I'm also wondering if anyone has any advice regarding remote monitoring their mining.

Many thanks

Oh well, the next thing that interests me is Litecoin - I see it as Bitcoin = Gold, Litecoin = Silver

Well this is how its developers promoted it in the first place and price seems to follow bitcoin quite well but i don't see any other value for litecoin except speculation.

That being said with a price of more than 10$/ltc it is great for mining!

I didnt realise thats actually what the plan was - thats interesting.

And as for mining, yup, I see it as good for speculation and also to learn about the hardware etc involved. Cheers for the reply.
7  Other / Beginners & Help / BTC/LTC - all good? on: November 25, 2013, 08:30:09 PM
Hi folks, thanks for operating this forum. I have followed the BTC scene since pretty much it started but I wasnt brave enough to put my money where my mouth is (or was) and as such, have missed the boat...Oh well, the next thing that interests me is Litecoin - I see it as Bitcoin = Gold, Litecoin = Silver, as a real-world analogy.

I have a few questions to do with mining but I won't put them here, I'll wait for the newbie restriction to be lifted then post in the relevant sub-forum. I know the forum is the 'Bitcoin' forum but I'm guessing its OK to talk about them both?

Thanks again
