1  Economy / Economics / Re: let us promote BITCOIN on: March 06, 2018, 01:34:54 PM
In my own insight, we must promote bitcoin to help other people to uplift their way of living. We can also help them to be knowledgeable enough about cryptos and about blockchain. Bitcoin is the easiest way to become rich or millionaire. You have lot of choices as bitcoiner, first just invest your money or join campaign to earn money or gain more profit

One cannot become a millionaire just by joining a campaign here. One should keep the goals realistic. However, they are good opportunity for jobless people or students to make some cash by posting here in their free time.

One advice for all such people who wish to participate in these campaigns is that do not rely completely on these for all your expenses. There are chances that these campaigns may get discontinued in future and then you will be left in lot of trouble.
2  Economy / Economics / Re: Cryptocurrencies and our daily life on: March 06, 2018, 01:31:56 PM
When we will use cryptocurrencies ofr our everyday life?

I do not see crypto  being used for small expenses like buying food or stationery in my country. Most of the sellers here are poor and uneducated and they do not won resources to accept bitcoin payment. Recently the government here tries to promote digital payments but that also failed miserably. This type of change cannot happen in one day. And the government first needs to build the required infrastructure for this. For instance, poor people should be given access to high speed internet and smartphones so that they can learn about crypto first.
3  Other / Meta / Re: What you need to write to get Merit on: March 06, 2018, 01:24:55 PM

The merit system it working as a whole although it has caused a few little problems here and there like for instance many people are copy and pasting older topics or older replies and trying to pass them off as their own. This is quickly being regonised and dealt with either by defaulttrust or the moderators.

Those member copying posts and then posting them as their own do not last longer. Since the forum is very strict with this, permanent ban is issued to those members once they are caught. We should use the report to moderator option for such posts if we come across such posts. One more thing that can be done regarding this is that we should have a sticky thread containing information regarding all the members who were recently banned for copy pasting. This will be a warning for members who are planning to do the same.
4  Other / Meta / Re: Ideas for improving post quality? on: March 06, 2018, 01:21:55 PM
1)  Big part of the new users are not following/ reading the rules.  But there are also not so well organized rules and it's not easy to find them. Newbies keep asking the same questions over and over again. Maybe this is the way to improve other members Activity points.

2)  The search engine is poor in search options and it's not easy to find what actually you are looking for. I couldn't sort by date the results and I had to scroll quite a lot.

1) agree to this, it is irritating to see the same questions being asked again and again. Most common question is "How can I get merit". Even if you tell them the answer, they do not follow the advice and keep making shit posts. Just one change is needed to reduce this- official thread about merit system should be made sticky.

2) That is the common issue with most of the forums as they use the default forum software search. You can try searching for information using Google and mention bitcointalk.org at end of the keyword.

solovev,   do you have a link to the thread that was discussing ways to improve forum spam?

I looked before I posted this message, and I found this thread. I had not seen that thread previously.

I was talking about this thread only and I think I was not registered here at that time. If you check the replies there, most of the members contributing there are high rank members only. At that time, the new members were not concerned about the forum and were thus not giving any suggestions. Later when a harsh decision was taken in the form of merit system, we see so many threads from new members complaining and giving their expert opinion about the merit system.
6  Other / Meta / Re: What is merit function ? on: March 06, 2018, 01:14:51 PM
The function of merit is to disrank everyone. Merit will disable the rank. Without enough merit base on the require merit for the members it won't allow to rank. The system scenario is base on the reality that their are more spammers that rank easily without sweat.

Disrank everyone ? Do you think before typing here. No one is going to loose current rank because the merit system. It is for the new members and ranking up. And if it is asking for some some merits to rank up, why will it prevent members from ranking up ? Many already ranked up after the merit system and thus this assumption makes no sense.

Please choose your words wisely before posting here as it can misguide the new members. A single word can change the meaning of your post completely.
7  Other / Meta / Re: How to increase merit without asking anyone who give you Merit? on: March 06, 2018, 01:11:15 PM
I just got into the forum and have not much to learn about it. I have read through the rules to increase the merit. I just wonder about that. I need answers like you, that make me understand a lot. It's better to get what you need. Thank you

You regsitration date as shown in your profile https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1067149 is July 14, 2017.

Now your next excuse will be that you had become active recently. Let me answer that for in advance. Your recent posts here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1067149;sa=showPosts  show that you had been making posts here after the merit system as well and that too frequently. So, it really does not make any sense to me why you typed that first line. Regarding my post helping you, thanks for the appreciation. Next time, please use the search function to see f someone has posted the same query or not. All the best. Smiley

8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Opportunity to sell for bitcoin on: March 06, 2018, 12:59:07 PM
I was wondering, if you had an opportunity to sell your stuff alike cars, pc, homethings and etc., would you sell it for bitcoin (or maybe other altcoin)? The main question is to see, are you ready trade stuff for cryptocurrencies and how do you imagine it?

I will be happy to do that but the issue is that in my country there is not much acceptance for bitcoins especially among the uneducated people. A lot of millionaires ( who inherited real estate properties or money from parents) do not have any idea about bitcoins and thus they will not accept it for transactions. Another problem is that government is having strict watch on all the big transactions happening in the country related to bitcoins and thus people are avoiding it for large deals.
9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 'Cryptocurrency' Makes Its Merriam-Webster Dictionary Debut on: March 06, 2018, 12:56:39 PM

Quote
Cryptocurrency might already be the rage of the day, but it just got a whole lot more legitimate.

Among more than 850 new words and definitions added to the Merriam-Webster dictionary this month, some cryptocurrency-related words are making their debut.

The online version of the dictionary will now feature blockchain, defined as “a digital database containing information (such as records of financial transactions) that can be simultaneously used and shared within a large decentralized, publicly accessible network.” The word cryptocurrency itself and the term “initial coin offering” will also be added.

This is something that will help bitcoins in the long run for sure. We can see a lot of more acceptance for the bitcoin in society:

1) We may see bitcoins being taught in schools and colleges especially for students in commerce background. I am not in favor of this because of monetary benefit but because it will help them relate to real life application of what they are studying.

2) Research students making projects on bitcoins should also be encouraged. This will also help bitcoin community as they may come up with innovative ideas to boost bitcoins.
10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Thieves in Iceland steal 600 powerful bitcoin miners on: March 06, 2018, 12:51:25 PM
How could they do that?! It's really a shocking news for everyone for it might happen in our country but i think it's the best time to put awareness for each and everyone of us, not only in the companies with secured building but also those people who has virtual wallet.

It is not much different from other robberies taking place. Just that the thieves have become advanced and have knowledge about the latest advancements happenings on the society. This can only be prevented by having proper security in those places. If there was a similar incident in my country, I am sure that the thieves would have left everything untouched as they have no idea of bitcoins or crypto. Individual investors should also learn from this and never disclose their income or current holding in public.

11  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can we all please accept.. on: March 06, 2018, 12:41:15 PM
I dont surprise if any country ban bitcoin or not because they have their own reason why they do it and we can not ask them to not do something that they dont want. However, there are some country which really open about bitcoin and crypto so i dont worry at all.

A country other than yours banning bitcoins also affects you in indirect way. Whenever a country bans bitcoins, the citizens of that country will stop investing in bitcoins and sell all their holdings. Now this result in reduced demand of the bitcoins and thus the prices are affected negatively. This was observed recently, when there was news of India banning bitcoins completely for Indian citizens and making it illegal. Most of the people started taking out their money and bitcoin prices dropped by 205 in single day.
12  Other / Meta / Re: Merit Requirements too difficult to JR. Members on: March 06, 2018, 12:04:46 PM
Yes I really agree that MERIT requirements makes the life of all the low ranking members of this forum very difficult and it is a big DISCRIMINATION for low ranking members like us, MERIT REQUIREMENT is just being imposed for the benefits of those high ranking members such as those FEW LEGENDARY MEMBERS who don't want LOW RANKING MEMBERS to be promoted to a much higher rank, they don't want members on this FORUM earn HIGHER PAYMENT just like they do they just want to keep it by themselves! So for me all I can say is that this MERIT requirements is just being made for the benefits of the high ranking members only.

Let me break your misconceptions one by one:

1) You mentioned that high rank members had imposed the merit system. Reality is that the admin made this decision.

2) There is no discrimination with any member. I saw that the admin made a thread before implementing the merit system asking for suggestions from all members regarding how to remove spam from the forum. What more do you want ? I think less than 40-50 members responded there and you were not one of them.

3) These threads complaining about the merit system are allowed here (unlike lot of other forums) and he even made some changes to the merit system.
13  Other / Meta / Re: Merits ! Can I beg to give me merits other participants? Ban or not? on: March 06, 2018, 11:57:26 AM
it's wrong from your side. it was necessary to explain to him that this is not correct!
not everyone can know what is allowed on the forum!
each of us was young and inexperienced Wink

Members like this should be punished with temporary ban. This question has been asked at least 100 times on this forum and if you read just the official thread, you will come to know that one has to post good quality posts to get merited.

These members also  know this thing but they are kind of looking for shortcuts. He is himself asking if he can beg for merits or not. This shows his attitude and thinking about the merit system. One can get experienced with time but this attitude is something that hardly changes.
14  Other / Meta / Re: imagine an effective system on: March 06, 2018, 11:54:10 AM
this is just what I imagine, when someone will post a topic with the same title or topic, the forum will work automatically and issue a statement "this post is similar to ..." (while show up another existing post with a similar topic) and below it appears the options "keep posting" and "cancel post".

I have seen such features being implemented on some of the leading questions answer websites and I am sure the staff here has all the qualifications to implement this here. But you know one thing, we do not deserve such special treatment.

I was really impressed when the admin introduced the merit system after so much planning. But then new members started cursing the merit system and calling it garbage and all. If they were making such posts on any other forum, they would have got banned in minutes.
15  Other / Meta / Re: What is merit function ? on: March 06, 2018, 11:49:41 AM
Hello all.... As I have read, there are so many member asking for merit. May I know wha is the function of merit and how to get it. I hope someone could assist me and answer my question.

Thank😊😊😊😊😊😊

Function of merit:

1) To remove spam from the forum.

2) To encourage new members to make quality posts here.

What it was not meant for:

1) Forcing new members to open countless threads about merit system like this one asking same questions.

2) Members looking to spend time finding loopholes instead of going the right way.

Regarding how to get it, you need to first go through all the replies made in the official thread so that you stop posting these questions and concentrate on making quality posts here.
16  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: March 06, 2018, 11:46:05 AM
Hi,

does a Junior member have any chance to become merit sourcer? Of course, if he/she proves the skills for it

No you cannot become a merit source because:

1) You do not have the time to even read the official thread properly before commenting. I mean it is clearly mentioned that you need to be  "somewhat established" member here to be considered as the merit source. If you do not care about reading the official posts, why will you read the posts of other members to give them merits.

2) Another problem is that you have posted 69 posts here and have not got a single merit so far. This means that you are not able to make a quality post yourself. So how will you judge other members making such posts ?
17  Other / Meta / Re: MERIT SYSTEM PROBLEM on: March 06, 2018, 11:41:44 AM
Sad to say but there are 1498183 members on this forum. Do you think they can manage it all? Administrators and staff are few but they are doing there best. Yes, there's a problem with this merit system but majority of the merit system helps the forum or the newbies to become a good posters. Like me I'm just new to this forum, I agree that ranking up isn't not easy like before the update of this forum because every rank requires many merits to rank up.

It would have been possible to handle 1498183 members if we knew that they are going to be fixed. Problem is a lot of members are joining here everyday and that number is increasing every month. If you go through the forum stats, there had been exponential rise in that number. To handle so many members, most of the forums do not have manual inspection. But here the admin has come with the solution as merit system. Best thing about merit system is that most of the posts are kind of checked or evaluated by other members thus reducing the work of senior members.
18  Other / Meta / Re: What do we do with users like this one? on: March 06, 2018, 11:37:24 AM
He is participating in some signature campaign (I guess) where the quality of the post doesn't matter.
If that's the case I wouldn't blame him, but the campaign manager. Why would he struggle to make quality posts when any crap post is paid just the same?

Here is why he is getting paid:

1) First of all, most of the members here think that only long posts or merited posts will give traffic to those signatures. In reality, other small posts might be ranking in Google and thus giving them sufficient visitors. I am not sure if the campaigns managers are checking traffic brought by each applicant but they must by analyzing returns on the total payment being made.

2) We should also not forget that it is hard to find active members here.I have seen members participating with lot of enthusiasm in beginning but they are not able to even complete minimum posts further.
19  Other / Meta / Re: How to increase merit without asking anyone who give you Merit? on: March 06, 2018, 11:29:37 AM
I have read the article about the Merit rule of the forum. Someone will give Merit to me and thanks to that I have more merit then I can increase my rank. But why not have a way. else to increase merit points that must not be donated from someone.

Here is how you can get merits without asking anyone for it:

1) Let your post speak for you. You should post such high quality and well researched posts that the reader feels compelled to give you merits. You also need to observed the recently merited posts to get an idea of what members are liking here.

2) Another option to increase your probability of getting merits is by posting in merit giveaway threads. There are a lot of members offering merit giveaways where you can quote your high quality posts and get merited. But make sure that your last 20-30 posts reflect that you are putting some effort.
20  Other / Meta / Re: Should Legendary/Hero/Sr Members be de-ranked? Additional user ranks? on: March 06, 2018, 11:26:41 AM
Why should members who happened to register before the introduction of the new system be immune to the difficulties faced by new members? I would even go as far as to suggest that the merit system is almost completely useless once you reach Hero rank, as there is not much difference to make acquiring another 500 merit to go from Hero > Legendary worth it. Once you get to legendary it is definitely useless, as there is no end reward, maybe we should at least get an extra coin or something for the additional merit.

I would suggest a way to resolve this would be to put upper level users on a probation system where they have to gain a certain number of merit over the probation period to maintain their rank, otherwise they get demoted. Also, I would also suggest creating an additional tier of user above Legendary that has additional privileges such as Ultimate or Diamond users at 1500 merit, something to give the old users something to strive towards. I know a probation period for all upper level members would probably cause a big uproar, but I do believe it would be in the best interest of the forum.

Here is what I think about this :

1) The purpose of merit system was to remove spam posts from this forum. It has succeed to some extent but only new members are compelled to follow this as they need merits to rank up. Those at the highest ranks need not work for any merit as they have no need to do so. This is certainly not fair and should be fixed.

2) I had seen some of the posts by high ranked members who are not able to even frame correct sentences while posting here. They should be de-ranked asap so they the have a reason to improve.
